Sheikh Rashid Ahmed challenged a police notice issued to him in a case related to allegations against former president Asif Ali Zardari in the Islamabad High Court (IHC)
A day earlier, the former interior minister was asked to appear in the Aabpara police station in the capital city on Wednesday for explanation after a complaint was filed against him for allegedly accusing PPP co-chairman of hatching a plot for the assassination of PTI Chairman Imran Khan
The capital police in a statement on Tuesday also claimed that Mr Ahmed had retracted from his allegation against the former president They also warned the senior politician of legal action for defying the summons
In the latest development, the AML chief has filed a petition against the police notice in the high court through his counsel Sardar Razzaq, Naeem Haider and Intazar Hussain He pleaded the IHC to declare the notice null and void as it was issued illegally Taking to Twitter, Mr Rashid endorsed Imran Khan s claim that Mr Zardari wanted to kill him, adding: “There are serious threats to the life of Imran Khan He said the PDM wanted to minus the PTI chief from politics He said data of 16 ministries was scrutinised and the government had resorted to awkward tactics after failing to find anything against him He claimed police were trying their best to arrest him
In a media talk outside the IHC, he also lashed out at the government for economic crisis in the country He demanded that the conditions placed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the revival of the loan programme should be made public He also hit out at the government for its attempt to occupy his residence, adding: “Lal Haveli is my personal property He said such tactics would bring bad name to the authorities Warning of anarchy in the country, he said elections should be held immediately to save the country from the deepening economic and political crises declaration made by a person who has ceased to hold public office
The PTI chairman referred to previous similar cases filed in the IHC and Supreme Court, which were dismissed on the same grounds He added that a case considered improper to proceed with previously cannot be taken up again under the law

As many as 738 cases of human rights violations were reported in Sindh Province during 2021-2022 according to the 7th annual report of Sindh Human Rights Commission launched at a local hotel in Hyderabad on Wednesday Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission Justice (R) Majida Rizvi highlighting important points of the report said that a total of 738 complaints related to human rights violations from 28 districts of Sindh were made In these cases, 251 suo-moto notices were taken on the basis of electronic media, newspapers, alerts from NgOs, civil society and focal persons whereas 487 complaints were entertained by the Commission In addition to complaint handling, the Commission, as per its mandate, conducted several field visits arranged public hearings conducted legislative reviews on a number of laws pertaining to human rights violations, recommended new laws

In an intelligence-based operation against terrorists, Swabi Police have killed two master-mind terrorists and arrested another one beside two suspects, said a press release issued on Wednesday On a tip regarding the presence of terrorists Swabi Police along with intelligence agencies carried out a joint operation at Hund During the operation, two terrorists identified as Izharullah alias Shiraz son of Attaullah resident of Asota Sharif and his accomplice Zeenat alias Saqib, resident of Bajaur were killed while another terrorist was arrested along with two other suspects Terrorist Izharullah alias Shiraz was wanted by both Swabi Police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in connection with terrorism related cases According to police he was wanted in recent handgrenade attacks at Police Station Kalu Khan and Yar Hussain A police cop was injured in the attack
