The government said there have been no fatalities for the past three days from the deadly floods that engulfed the country since mid-June, a hopeful sign that the nation is turning a corner on the disaster.
(NDMA) said the waters have now returned to normal levels in all rivers, lakes and reservoirs. Experts have said the flooding was worsened by climate change.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) nations to approach the office of the United Nations secretary general to appoint an envoy on Islamophobia. The foreign minister was addressing a meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Muslims in Europe which was held on the sidelines of the General Assembly’s 77th annual session in New York. He said Islamophobia continues to find strong resonance in political spheres in Europe, ultimately leading to the institutionalisation of Islamophobia through new legislations and policies such as discriminatory travel bans and visa restrictions. He said the momentum generated by this resolution should be maintained. Zardari said one of the worst manifestations of such Islamophobia was in Hindutva-inspired India, where, driven by the ideology of hate against Muslims, the ruling regime is executing its century-old plan to obliterate the country’s Islamic legacy and to transform it into an exclusive Hindu state. He said the gender aspect of Islamophobia is also gaining prominence, with Muslim girls and women being targeted due to the mode of their dress and the general notion that Muslim women are oppressed and thus must be liberated.

Pakistan is not facing any acute shortage of its basic staple food wheat, an official statement said. Officials at a meeting convened by the National Flood Response Coordination Center (NFRCC) here with a focus on food security said that this year the stocks of wheat and other food items are more than in previous years despite the devastating floods in Pakistan, the agency said in the statement. The NFRCC was also told that procurement plans are in place to ensure meeting the annual national demand of 30.5 million tons of wheat. The centre asked all stakeholders to ensure the availability of other critical food items, particularly infant food including dry milk and dietary supplements for flood-affected women, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan. According to the media, recent floods have damaged an estimated 3.36 million hectares of crops in Pakistan, including over 1.37 million hectares in Sindh alone.

The US tech giant periodically adjusts its prices in different regions and reduced prices for eurozone countries last year to adjust for currencies and taxes, dropping starting prices for many apps to 99 euro cents from 1.09 euros. The latest price rise increases those starting prices to 1.19 euros. A rapid rise in inflation, interest rates and energy prices this year has hammered the yen, the euro and most emerging economy currencies. The euro has dropped to two-decade lows this year and has been languishing around parity against the dollar for weeks. Apart from eurozone countries, the price increases will hit Sweden and Poland in Europe; Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea and Vietnam in Asia; and Chile in South America. For some countries like Vietnam, the price increase was due to new regulations relating to collecting tax from consumers, Apple said. ISLAMABAD: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has been awarded three-star rating by the Londonbased Global Competition Review (GCR), in its annual ranking of the World's top antitrust/competition authorities. Alongside the three-star rating, GCR has shown CCP’s performance indicator with upwards arrow as, “improving upon its previous accomplishments.” The CCP’s three-star rating brings it at par with the competition authorities of countries including, Switzerland, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, and Romania. GCR’s Rating Enforcement and starrating is the result of an independent and objective process scrutinising information and data supplied by the competition authorities, the GCR’s daily reporting, and interviews with lawyers and economists on the quality of an agency’s work in their jurisdiction. Their analysis rates each authority on a scale of one to five stars. In Pakistan’s country brief in the Rating Enforcement, the GCR noted: “The Competition Commission of Pakistan has made several substantial strides in the past couple of years and reestablished itself as one of the region’s key competition enforcers.” The Chairperson, Ms. Rahat Kaunain Hassan who re-joined in July 2020 credits this achievement to CCP’s team. pr

Donald Trump was the logical inheritor of these decades of the Democrats’ neglect of white voters. he stoked their fears and while he had no intention or plan to fulfil his promises, he pledged to bring back jobs and restore the dream of prosperity. in office, he ultimately pursued policies that were detrimental to the needs of white working-class voters, but he retains their support because they believe that he understands their anger and the sense that they’ve lost control of their lives to economic, social, and political forces, leaving them feeling powerless and without a voice. even after four failed years of the Trump presidency, his appeal remains strong among many voters because he has been able to personify their frustrations and aspirations. his victory was their victory, and his defeat became their defeat. Trump’s clones, now running for office, continue his message and carry his mantle.

MRAN KhAN does not have any principled differences with the Army. he is not opposed to military coups. in fact Ayub Khan remains one of his most admired rulers. he remained on friendly terms with Pervez Musharraf also for a number of years. Mr Khan doesn’t oppose the Army’s interference in politics or its encroachment on the turf of the civilian institutions. he has even justified phone-tapping of politicians by the intelligence agencies, saying the iSi and iB listen to all his telephonic conversations and this is exactly how it should be. “iSi, which is the world’s most outstanding agency, listens to everything,” he reiterated. Mr Khan was comfortable with being on the same page with the Army for nearly three years in a system often referred to as hybrid democracy.

A show of unity among political figures and parties should be made to match the public’s role as an example. however, there is still a shortage of this because politicians are busy with their disputes
After the deluge
The admirable response from the general public and local communities was the ray of sunshine in this desolate terrain.
The sheer chutzpah of stating that the federal government is not taking the floods seriously while Khan, whose party runs close to two-thirds of the nation, is on a series of political rallies. The federal government might coordinate, it might get funds from abroad, it might even use federal forces like central policy forces and civil armed militias to help chip in as far as rescue efforts are concerned, it is the provincial governments that are a primary agents of rescue, relief and rehabilitation, whether it is through the police or the various district administrations.

The letter KP Finance Minister Taimur Jhagra sent to the federal government stating that the PTirun provincial government could not generate a budget surplus was the most blatant example. The letter’s sole purpose was to damage the economic rescue plan because it was sent and made public just days before the iMF board was scheduled to meet and finalize our bailout package.
how is it then that the same Republican Party that never abandoned its principles of small government, less taxes, and deregulation, now wins support from the very working-class voters who need public education and services, a system of taxation that doesn’t favour the richest Americans, and the health and safety protections that have historically come from government intervention— and has become “the party of the working class”?
For Imran Khan, a tough journey ahead
As it is, he made some very ill thought out statements during the very initial days of the current climate catastrophe, when he expressed doubts over whether the funds collected will be going to the right places. even though he backtracked a bit from those initial statements, his more confrontational talking points always reverberate through his support base, which is unaffected by his subsequent distancing from said statements and, in some cases, even formal apologies in court.

proclaimed themselves to be the party of working people. They were, after all, the party of organized labour and their ranks were filled with ethnic immigrant working men and women who had come to this country to find opportunity and freedom from oppression. For the better part of the last century, the Democratic Party embraced and protected them and organized them into a powerful voting bloc that won elections at all levels of government. Republicans, on the other hand, proclaimed themselves the party of big business and small government. They promoted free trade, fought against unions, and consistently worked to reduce taxes, government spending, and regulation of business practices.
The challenge for Democrats is to recognize that the story being played out is bigger than Donald Trump—and more than the social and cultural issues on which they are basing their strategies to win in November. it’s imperative that they fight for racial justice, women’s rights, immigration reform, and equity for the lGBTQ community. But their approach can’t be “either-or.” They must translate these issues to white working-class voters and make clear that their concerns will also be front and center on the party’s agenda. Only such an inclusive message and program can end the politics of polarization and provide Democrats the opportunity to demonstrate that they represent the aspirations of all Americans.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif extended an olive branch to imran Khan and offered to work with the opposition during a national emergency as the coalition government launched its relief efforts. however, the PTi-run provincial governments in Punjab and KP did not make many efforts to engage with the centre. instead, the chief minister of KP falsely claimed that the federal government had failed to assist and that his provincial and the federal governments had not spoken since the floods. The chief minister of Punjab requested help from imran Khan rather than islamabad. Chief Minister Pervaiz elahi appeared
This tragic state of circumstances did little to persuade certain political figures to end their combative tactics and polarizing language, at least temporarily. For instance, despite the mayhem around the nation, the PTi held its public gathering in Jhelum. imran Khan continued to use a combative tone in his speech while pledging that his party would stop at nothing to help and rehabilitate flood victims. in response to criticism, he declared that he would keep holding rallies despite floods, heat waves, and “even war.” he protested in other cities, and his demeanour became even more antagonistic. in response to the federal government’s appeal, a PTi leader requested at one rally, asking Pakistanis living abroad not to give money to the federal government for flood relief.
With this in mind, it should have sent shock waves through Democratic Party circles when, a few months back, conservative Republican Senator lindsay Graham crowed that while Democrats have become the “party of elites,” the Republican Party has become the “party of the working class.” Unfortunately, the Senator’s comments largely were ignored.

Mr Khan became suspicious when a no confidence move was in the offing and the Army decided to stay neutral. how can a watchman stay neutral when he sees the house being burgled?, PTi leaders argued. After the success of the no-confidence move the PTi’s social media trolls went haywire to blame the Army. Mr Khan’s chief of staff Shehbaz Gill went many steps ahead by calling upon the Army not to carry out the high command’s orders. The pronouncements were strongly resented by ally PMl(Q), which has a long history of working with the Army, as well as by some of the PTi supporters. They pressured Mr Khan to seek reconciliation. The attempts made last week in that direction have apparently failed as indicated by the tone and substance of Mr Khan’s speech in Chakwal. The nation won’t forget ‘traitors’ and ‘conspirators’ who imposed ‘imported government’ on us, iK roared.
The disaster has raised several crucial questions, one of which is whether the country’s political elite can still show the cooperation and resolve required in the coming months to guide the ship of state through these choppy waters and to safer shores. if these stakeholders do not get serious, the scenario ahead can worsen.
The point is that Democrats have lost touch with white ethnic voters and, like the Republicans, have pursued their own version of “either-or” politics. They speak to liberal “elites” and their “base,” but ignore or insult others. White working-class voters have lost jobs, seen the values they have been taught to believe in now called into question, felt the “American Dream” that had inspired them is now beyond reach and that Democrats aren’t paying attention to them. The issue isn’t race, per se, but rather the feeling of having been abandoned and being vulnerable that has enabled Republicans to exploit race, immigration, or cultural change as reminders of their fear of being ignored by Democrats and left behind.
While the all too flippant answer is race, there is an element of truth in that generalisation. The unrest that accompanied the civil rights movement did create a white backlash that has been callously exploited by Republicans since the time of the Nixon Administration. They preyed on the resentments and insecurities of poorer whites and despite having no positive solutions to offer them, still won much of their support.
Some PMl(N) politicians criticized this behaviour and reaffirmed their political criticism of PTi on other fronts. Tensions increased as certain members of the coalition government continued to lambast the PTi. As his telethon attracted record donations from Pakistanis living abroad, Khan clarified that the money he was gathering would be exclusively allocated to Punjab and KP. Amid a national emergency, the political leaders’ divided response was an uninspiring display.

Over 1000 people have already died, including many children. A lot of livelihoods have been lost. Fifteen thousand schools have been destroyed by flooding: persistent flooding, bad weather, transportation disruptions, and infrastructure damage impeded relief and rescue efforts. heartbreaking pictures show people struggling to survive in a sea of agony. Five hundred thousand people are living in camps. The estimate for the economic costs of the disaster is $10 billion so far.

Prime Minister Sharif and the heads of the services gathered at a high-level conference last week to assess the situation and develop comprehensive relief and recovery strategies. The PTi chief ministers of Punjab and KP, who were invited along with other CMs, both boycotted it. The chief secretaries of these two provinces were there, but Khan ordered their political overlords to abstain.
Graham’s observations, while containing more than a kernel of truth, might have been more accurate had he added the clarifying word “white” before working class. Polls show that Democrats consistently out-perform Republicans among wealthier and college-educated Americans, and also win strong majorities of Black, latino, and Asian voters. Republicans, on the other hand, receive strong support among whites without a college degree and those at the lower end of the income scale.
Perhaps the PTi chief does not realise that not only are such visits a part of the job description of the prime minister (and obviously the foreign minister) but they also serve useful in order to get help from the international community when it comes to disaster relief. if the former prime minister were to take off his political goggles, he just might realise that the sheer scale of the disaster makes it impossible for relief and rehabilitation to take place without international support.

The broader political and cultural upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s also played a role. Patriotism, traditional sexual mores and gender roles, and the foundational myths of our accepted history were all challenged in necessary, but nevertheless, unsettling ways. And while Democrats correctly embraced these various causes, they oftentimes did so in a manner that ignored the needs and concerns of the very white working-class voters who had once provided them with victories. Democrats became the party of a collection of social and cultural causes, while Republicans were able to refashion themselves as the party that exploited the fears of white voters who felt they were not only being ignored but also becoming the victims of these “causes.” A recent study showercented that as late as 1996 counties that were “85 percent white and earned less than the na-

N his political tour of the country, former premier imran Khan criticised PM Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto for being abroad at a time of natural calamity like this.
ATiONS typically come together when tragedies occur, but Pakistan is an exception nowadays. The country’s worst floods should have compelled the political adversaries to put aside their partisan differences and give a coordinated response to the disaster. But this is an expectation that can never be fulfilled. except for a few days after the fatal downpour started to cause unheard-of devastation across the country, dirty politics continued business as usual.

Today, people remember him as the leader who chose not to compromise on his principles. Despite offers of clemency, Mr Bhutto made a choice that only a leader of his stature could have made. he chose to stay alive in history over an extension of physical life. As a result, his memory is etched in the hearts and minds of the people of all generations of this nation.

Moreover, during the economic crisis faced by the countries, there are a lot of protests and riots among the masses which create political and economic instability, and governments are failing to counter their emerging domestic problems. China also got an indication that if the West could not save Ukraine, it would also not fight for Taiwan. This might ultimately boost the Chinese morale to invade Taiwan. Keeping in view the global responses to the Russo-Ukraine war, it is pertinent to mention that there are several social, political, and economic implications of it. One of the political implications of the crisis is that it gave birth to Cold War 2.0, and the world will once again become the victim between two blocs and the rivalries will again be the same. Consequently, the war has created a sense of security dilemma among the states and countries are increasing their defence budgets after the crisis. Some have also applied for NATO membership fearing that they would be the next target of Russia after Ukraine.

The Russo-Ukrainian war divided the international community into three different parts, each carrying specific dimensions. First, there are the countries that are against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, such as the USA and its allies. They are not directly involved in confronting the Russian military, rather are providing military aid to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia to paralyze its economy to end the war, as they claim. recently, US President Joe Biden said, “this time we are sanctioning Russian banks by cutting off their assets”.
is not. it claims to maintain a neutral position in the war taking care of its strategic partnership with both Moscow and Washington, but it appears that india has gone against the Western wish that it vote against Russia in the UN General Assembly because of its national interests. in this context, Pakistan, a developing country that wants to shift its position from geo-strategic to geo-economics, also claims to be neutral. it was pressurized by the West to vote against Russia on the UN General Assembly resolution but it did not. Pakistan’s neutral stance is important because it is a developing country. it needs cheap energy, pretty much for the same needs as india does, and Russia is selling oil at cheaper prices. Also, Pakistan imports wheat from Russia and Ukraine and the continuation of the war can cause food shortages in the country, as it has already been struck by recent floods affecting more than 33 million Pakistanis in different ways.

Today
he Russo-Ukrainian War can be termed a multi-dimensional disaster. Many nations are siding with Russia and many are blaming it for the crisis. Amid such a blame game, implications of the war have been taken for granted, as the war is impacting the entire world, including those who are not involved in the crisis. This is what the article aims to highlight: the global responses to the Ukraine war, its implications, and a possible way forward to end the war.
AFTeR two weeks, the people would witness the 43rd death anniversary of the slain Prime Minister of the Country, Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on 4th April 2022. Bhutto was amongst the leaders who were born in centuries. Bhutto a charismatic leader; he was visionary, wise, diplomat par excellence, orator, laborious, and above all a friend of hapless and poor. ZAB has been perhaps the only leader in the country who believed in the prosperity of coming generations and not merely the one of his time to whom he was dependent on, to remain in the premier office.
eDUCATiON is a vital asset to distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad, moral and immoral, vices and blessings. The key purpose of education is to educate the ignorant, the unwise and common people about how to live a simple, but nice life and how to treat people; and how to attain huge milestones in life. likewise, education makes us aware of upcoming dangers and provide viable solutions to resolve them. education delivers all these factors and edifies us to the proper way to accomplish our desired goals. Additionally, education is the only tool that significantly supports transforming the lives of the backwards nation into progressive nations. it is witnessed that a country, whose literacy ratio is greater than others, exhibits unprecedented advancement in any sector.

During the winter Olympics, China openly supported the Russian stance against NATO expansion. in the meanwhile, China declined to join the West’s sanctions against Russia, opting for normal trade cooperation with Russia. With the slogan “No limits friendship”, Beijing is also helping Moscow tide over sanctions by buying oil, gas, and wheat. TODAy, when i read the headlines of the newspapers, it is clear that the price of petrol, diesel and kerosene has gone up again. A week ago, the Prime Minister had openly stated that i am against the rise in prices of petrol because people cannot bear this burden. in inverse to this, Fawad Chaudhry said that there was no option but to increase petrol prices because trillions of rupees of the government are under debt due to the stay order. There is no doubt that the Prime Minister came to power with a good vision but unfortunately for the ray of hope the poor, the unemployed who were camping in the valley of contentment with the wish that our destiny would be bright and will be satisfied and good economic conditions and they will also feed their wives and children in the better way. educated M.Phils and PhDs thought that there will be an era of employment for them. The rich were in a frenzy of waiting for their business to shine. The corruption culture of the offices will end. Perhaps something else was written on the canvas of destiny, the sweat of the poor was written in the mill of poverty, suicide and self-immolation of people forced by unemployment, poverty and inflation, poor parents forced by starvation.Giving examples of inflation in other countries, we do not get tired of putting new knots of style, but have we compared Pakistan with other countries in terms of inflation with the whole world? if so, then last year the rise in inflation worldwide is a conservative estimate of 4% but in Pakistan, it is 10%, now who is responsible for the 6% increase? What are the reasons for this, one thing i want to mention here is that i am speaking in favour of any political party, if petrol goes up by ten rupees then the price of things will go up forty times. An increase in inflation gives another type of artificial inflation in the market. it is the responsibility of the government of the day to strengthen the governance system so that no shopkeeper, no trader can go beyond the fixed price regulation.
The most unfortunate aspect is that his party has abandoned ZAB’s legacy of a corruption-free society built on just and equal social and economic principles though the party has been able to maintain the secular and liberal credentials which it had also inherited from ZAB’s legacy. however, ZAB’s legacy would continue to be followed by one or another segment of the society till it is revived to its original form as the eventual destination of the nation lies what dreamt of ZAB for it some five decades ago.

to pursue three goals simultaneously: strategic partnership with Russia, minimizing the damage of sanctions from the eU and the USA against Russia and commitment to territorial integrity and non-interference. For maintaining a strategic partnership with Russia, China is supporting Russia as it demands or at least expects Russian support on the Taiwan issue.

To conclude, all the set-ups of this war can prove that it is the preparation of a new world order and also a threat to US hegemony. The idea of isolating Russia and securing europe might lead to the demolition of europe and the US dominance, because if NATO did not stop its expansion, then Ukraine is not the end but the starting point for Russia.
T
Consequences aside, both countries have certain demands before ending the war. Russia has been transparent about its demands. it has stated its four requirements for Ukraine to end the war: full demilitarization, which means that Ukraine should stop any kind of military action; amending its constitution toward neutrality (which would prevent it from joining NATO); recognizing Crimea as Russian territory, and recognizing Donetsk and luhansk as independent states. Ukraine, however, is equally firm in its demands of Russia: it requires peace, immediate ceasefire, immediate withdrawal of all troops, and security guarantees from the Russian invasion.
This was the reason that ZAB had left a rich legacy that could not be replicated by anyone else who came to power during the last 43 years. ZAB, gave the national constitution with consensus though he was then confronted by arch-rivals in the parliament. Making the country’s deterrence impregnable was his sole contribution in the early years of the nuclear policy. ZAB united the divided Muslim world of his times into a uniform entity. he promoted friendly relations with China and our country is still reaping its benefits. Mr Bhutto chose to be a voice for the downtrodden and highlighted the issue of Kashmir in the United Nations. he took politics from the drawing rooms to the common people. in true spirit, he worked towards empowering the people and bringing them to the parliament.ZABwas unceremoniously and brutally eliminated under an international agenda that not only deprived the people of a true leader after Muhammad Ali Jinnah but also derailed the country from being on the track of a progressive and prosperous nation in the comity of the world. After ZAB’s brutal murder his detractors tried to malign his legacy by hurling false propaganda and censoring ZAB’s contribution for the nation from being high-lighted but they were unmindful of the revenge of history which is straightforward and brutally sharp.
To common people, conflicts are seen as two-sided, the left versus the right, the labour versus the management, and one country versus another, but it’s not that simple in almost all cases and the RussoUkrainian War is no exception. This conflict has a third side, where states willingly or compellingly pick favourites to support them and the engine of war continuously steams blood not hollow smoke. For instance, in the UN General Assembly, most european nations are taking sides while the Asian and African nations are not interested in doing so, as most probably this suits their national interest.

The economic implications of the Ukraine war are bleeding all of us. Oil prices are sharply increasing and it is completely affecting the entire world. Prices of food commodities are rising, because Russia and Ukraine are among the largest wheat exporters in the world. inflation is at its peak, because of the supply chain disruption.
To ensure peace and stability in the region, it is important to look at how the war could end. For the war to end, Ukraine should declare its neutral status with no membership in NATO and demilitarize the conflictual territories. Secondly, an agreement of no interference in the domestic politics of Ukraine by the USA and Russia needs to be agreed upon. Thirdly, Ukraine should refrain from being the station of any other country’s military base. Fourthly, in Crimea and Donbas, for the debated territories, there should be referendums under international supervision, and lastly, there should be negative security assurances to non-nuclear states.
Across the sub-continent lynch mobs have forced Muslims to repeat “Jai shri Ram”. The crowds that tore down a 16th-century mosque brick by brick in Ayodhya chanted the slogan. some Hindutva protesters in Leicester, chanting “Jai shri Ram”, assaulted Muslim bystanders. Local Muslim men confronted the Hindutva protesters. Police kept the groups apart. More Muslims gradually arrived and at sunset dozens prostrated themselves in prayer in congregation in the middle of uppingham Road.
An inflammatory press release on Monday stated: “We strongly condemn the violence perpetrated against the indian Community in Leicester and vandalization of premises and symbols of Hindu religion.” This is sinister.

The Conservative Party has seen potential for electoral gain in collaborating with the ruling BJP, which responds in kind. in the 2019 general election, the general-secretary of the national Council of Hindu Temples, which has links with the BJP, was suspended after revelations that he had been personally urging people to vote Conservative on social media.
NO POINT IN JUST ONE NUCLEAR BOMB: But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will. it is true that iran will have enough enriched uranium to make a nuclear bomb, said Mohammadbagher Forough, a researcher at the GiGA institute for Middle East studies in Hamburg. “However that is just enough to make one single bomb, not a series of bombs,” he told dW. “A single bomb makes no sense militarily. The world’s nuclear powers don’t rely on just a single bomb. no war could be fought like that. A single nuclear bomb is not enough because you would assume that other nations will have multiple nuclear bombs that they would use against you to much more serious effect,” he argued. There are also other reasons why iran is far from making its own nu-
POLITICAL PRESSURE: in that case then, why is iran enriching uranium at such a fast pace? For Tehran it’s all about political pressure, Forough said. From the perspective of iranian leadership, the conditions set out in the JCPOA were voided after the us government, when it was being led by the donald Trump administration, pulled out of the deal unilaterally in 2018. since Joe Biden became president, the us has been leading the push to renegotiate a new version of the JCPOA. “so uranium enrichment is primarily a means to get the us and other players to sign the agreement, which has almost been fully negotiated in Vienna,” Forough said. That political pressure counts even more as the midterm elections approach in the us, when members of Congress and some in the senate will be chosen. “it is not impossible that the democrats, led by us President Biden, will lose their majority in Congress,” Forough said. “in that case, the [new JCPOA] agreement will never be signed. That’s another reason why Tehran is putting so much pressure on.”
iran had continued enriching uranium beyond the limits set by the 2015 nuclear deal, which it had agreed upon together with China, France, Russia, the uK, the united states, Germany and the European union, the agency report said. But by late August, iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium totaled an estimated 3,940 kilograms, that is more than 19 times the contractually agreed limit, the report said.
For the iranian government, the agreement is about ending the crippling sanctions regime imposed on their country because of attempts to potentially make nuclear weapons. if the renegotiated JCPOA is signed by all parties, then sanctions would ease. On the other hand, GiGA’s Meier said, iran is getting in the way of the negotiations itself: The negotiations are currently being complicated by the fact that the iAEA can’t verify what’s going on inside iran’s nuclear program. “That’s why the iAEA has now said more clearly that an agreement on the restoration of the JCPOA requires additional measures to better verify iran’s nuclear program,” he told dW. “There are many outstanding issues and it’s important to resolve them quickly.”
in the same year, the president of the Hindu Forum of Britain was videoed telling an audience that she would ban Labour politicians from Hindu functions. A group called Overseas Friends of BJP uK, meanwhile, invited 300 indians to a meeting with Conservative candidate dr Anwara Ali and Conservative MP Bob BlackmanBlackman.hasarecord of islamophobic views, is known for retweeting anti-Muslim social media posts by the former leader of the English defence League Tommy Robinson (he later apologised citing an “error” over the tweet), and sharing a platform with the far-right commentator Katie Hopkins. in 2018 he hosted Hindu nationalist leader Tapan Ghosh in Parliament. Ghosh has called on the un to “control the Muslim birth rate world over”. This may help explain why, at the time of writing, there has been no statement on the violence from British Home secretary suella Braverman - and little substantial coverage of the story in Britain’s notoriously islamophobic mainstream press.
The majority of Leicester’s Muslims are indian, with many tracing their origins to Gujarat, the site of the 2002 massacre in which Modi, then chief minister of Gujaraat, was implicated. The statement, therefore, suggests that the High Commission recognises indian Hindus but not indian Muslims as part of the “indian community”.
it’s standard practice from Modi’s government to favour Hindus and ignore anti-Muslim violence back home in india - thus allowing fanatical militants to terrorise minorities with impunity. Yet there is an even more disturbing element to the High Commission of india’s press release: it refers to “violence perpetrated against the indian community”. in fact, as the indian High Commission must have known, the clashes were largely between people with an indian background.
When hindu nationalism came to Britain
GROWING TENSION: Today the Hindutva visionto forge india into a Hindu, rather than religiously plural, nation - is closer than ever to being realised. in india, this has meant death, terror and destruction, much of it involving attacks on Muslims. But the Rss’s influence is no longer confined to india. it is active in Britain. in Leicester, tensions have been growing amid a series of anti-Muslim attacks.
Police officers wielding batons keep the two sides apart. Close by, cars are being smashed. One is overturned and its driver beaten up.
The threat escalated once more last saturday. Around 200 Hindu men, most of them masked and hooded, marched through a Muslim-majority area in East Leicester. As they marched, they shouted “Jai shri Ram”. This innocuous-sounding Hindu religious statement, meaning “Hail Lord Ram!”, has become synonymous with Hindutva violence in india.
STRATEGIC SILENCE: in recent years, the Conservative Party has entered into an unspoken electoral alliance with india’s ruling BJP. it is often forgotten that Modi was banned from entering Britain after the 2002 massacre of over 1,000 Muslims in Gujarat. But in 2014 Modi was elected as prime minister, and since then the British government has embraced him wholeheartedly. in April former prime minister Boris Johnson visited india, where he announced new investment deals in technology and posed in photos with Modi. no mention of the murderous attacks on Muslims on the rise throughout the country.TheHolocaust Memorial Museum in the united states considers india the second most likely country to experience mass killings in 2022. Yet, the British government maintains a strategic silence on the matter.

What iran does have though are centrifuges inside its nuclear reactors that are more advanced than would have originally been permitted under 2015’s nuclear deal — this is also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA. “Centrifuges raise serious nuclear weapons proliferation concerns because exactly the same machines that are used to enrich uranium for a nuclear reactor can enrich uranium for a nuclear bomb,” the Federation of American scientists explains on its website. “in general, a nuclear reactor needs a small degree of enrichment of a large amount of material, and a bomb needs a large degree of enrichment of a small amount of material.”
The iAEA said it was “not in a position to provide assurance that iran’s nuclear program is exclusively
The iAEA pressed iran to adhere to the 2015 nuclear agreement it had signed. in another earlier report, the agency also said it regretted iran’s decision to remove 27 surveillance cameras that had allowed inspectors to monitor the country’s nuclear activities from afar. This had reduced the iAEA’s ability to guarantee that iran’s nuclear program was not military, the Vienna-based agency said.
weapons-grade uranium for a nuclear weapon within a few weeks.” But Meier also confirmed that the iranians needed more than this to build a nuclear bomb. “iran has been working on that as well,” he conceded. “There has also apparently been research into making warheads for the missiles. However, as far back as 2009, there is no indication that this research has continued, or that it has resumed.”
Then, on 28 August, violence escalated. After india defeated Pakistan in a cricket match, a mob chanting “death to Pakistan” took to the streets of Leicester. The mob attacked a sikh bystander and a police officer. in a horrific incident a few nights later, several

According to the iAEA, iran had continued to accumulate enriched uranium even while it restricted access to the agency’s monitors. in Vienna, diplomatic insiders have suggested that it would now only take iran between three and four weeks to make enough enriched uranium to create a nuclear weapon.
A DANGEROUS PHENOMENON: As night set in violence broke out - from both sides. Muslims attacked one Hindutva marcher in his car, pushing it over onto its side. A masked man climbed onto a Hindu temple and took down its flag. On Melton Road, as two lines of police officers stood between Hindutva and Muslim protestors, some members of the Hindutva mob threw glass bottles towards the Muslims. “i saw the whole road blocked,” a witness told Middle East Eye. “The police had batons and dogs. They weren’t letting anyone through. i saw police officers scattered throughout the surrounding streets.”
it’s deeply worrying that the indian High Commission should breach all diplomatic protocol by echoing the ugly language of religious militants back in india. Many Hindus in Leicester reject the indian High Commission analysis.
We spoke to a young Hindu woman who fears for the safety of her local area. speaking on condition of anonymity, this is what she told us: “My grandma goes to the Mandir [temple] daily so i don’t feel good about that. Mob mentality is terrifying,” she said. “This was something that always scared me about the rise of the BJP in india - how that’s going to impact the diaspora. it’s so sad to see - growing up here it’s always been largely peaceful between all communities. This is horrific.” shamingly it has suited British politicians to turn a blind eye to the rise of the Hindutva movement in the uK. Cynical electoral politics may be the reason.

Local residents trapped in their houses, afraid to go out. Masked and hooded men march through the streets. This wasn’t a scene in india, a country notoriously prone to outbursts of brutal communal violence. it happened last saturday night in the British city of Leicester. For locals, it felt close to civil war. nothing like this has happened before in Britain’s most multicultural city. in recent months, though, something has changed. Hindu nationalism has come to Britain. in india, hatred against religious minorities, especially the country’s 200 million Muslims, is growing. it is fuelled by Hindutva, a common term for the Hindu nationalism propagated by the Rashtriya swayamsevak sangh (Rss), a paramilitary organisation. indian Prime Minister narendra Modi received his political education in the Rss. The ruling party, the BJP, was established in 1951 as its political wing.
This in itself is a terrifying manifestation of Hindutva ideology, which paints india as a fundamentally Hindu country assaulted by foreign Muslim invasions, so that indian Muslims today are themselves not a real part of the nation. MEE approached the indian High Commission for a comment, but there was no response until this column went to print.
Eventually, police managed to disperse the crowds, but more violence erupted the following evening. Hindus spray-painted the outer wall of a mosque, while Muslims removed a temple flag and set it on fire. Masked men of both groups roamed the streets, before being dispersed by police. Most press reporting so far suggests that both sides of the conflict are equally to blame, as Faisal Hanif has noted for Middle East Eye. it must be stressed that the picture is confused, and there have been horrifying Muslim assaults on Hindus. But the ugly events of this summer cannot be explained without taking into account the rise of the Hindutva movement in Britain.

OuLd it be that iran’s nuclear program is actually meant for military purposes? That’s the suspicion that the international Atomic Energy Agency seemed to raise in a report presented last week.
“The history of nuclear powers indicates that it actually takes years to build a bomb from nuclear weapons grade materials,” he pointed out. “The iAEA has certainly described the seriousness of the current situation well. But from that you cannot conclude that iran is really on the verge of having its own nuclear bomb.” it is certainly worrying that iran has more enriched uranium than was permitted under the 2015 nuclear agreement, agreed Oliver Meier, a senior researcher at Hamburg university’s institute for Peace Research and security Policy. At one stage the country also had a heavy water nuclear reactor, that would have been capable of producing plutonium, which can also be used to make a nuclear bomb. “But that path is closed [to them] at the moment,” Meier noted.
clear bomb, Forough continued. The country doesn’t have the right ingredients to make one — that includes the lack of materials for a detonator.
in fact, the Conservatives seem determined to suck up to Modi’s BJP. in May a delegation of indian opposition politicians was received at a reception in the British parliament. Conservative MPs were noticeably absent, according to a report in the Guardian.

WHO IS INDIAN? By only condemning attacks on Hindus, it turns a blind eye to the violence against Muslims. The indian High Commission is unforgivably taking sides in a religious conflict in a foreign country.
This dangerous phenomenon of great importance has so far been almost entirely ignored in the press. But not by india itself. in a dangerous intervention, the High Commission of india in London has painted violence in Leicester as a purely Muslim phenomenon.
Former Home secretary Priti Patel is an open admirer of Modi, praising his “dynamic leadership” when she was in government. in 2014, she went to the extraordinary lengths of writing a letter of congratulations to Hss-uK, the overseas wing of the Rss, for their event entitled “Rss: A Vision in Action - a new dawn”. Patel told its members they “should be very proud of what they have achieved for Britain’s Hindu community.”

Ali will captain England because T20 skipper Jos Buttler is recovering from a calf injury and is expected to play in only one or two games toward the end of the series, which begins Tuesday. “Captaining England in any game, anywhere in the world, is a huge honour,” Ali said. “Obviously, with my roots being from here and to lead England (… ) it’s huge and it’s (a) very proud moment for me and my family, my mum and dad and everybody.” England’s first tour to Pakistan since 2005 starts in Karachi, which will host four games. The remaining three will be played in Lahore from September 28-October 2. Buttler is with the squad and has been undergoing rehabilitation, but Ali said the recurring of the injury during the Hundred back home has forced the England captain to be extra careful. “Maybe in the back end of the tour he will play one or two games, but we’re not sure yet,” Ali said. “Obviously with the World Cup in Australia, it’s huge for us and we want him fully fit for the whole competition there.” The T20 World Cup begins in mid-October. At least eight members of the England squad like Ali himself, Harry Brook, Alex Hales and Phil Salt have experience playing in Pakistan for various franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). That experience could come in handy for an England team that is without its key T20 World Cup player Ben Stokes. Fast bowlers Mark Wood and Chris Woakes are returning to the team after being sidelined for most of the summer because of injuries. Jonny Bairstow was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a freak injury while playing golf while out-of-form Jason Roy was dropped both for the tour of Pakistan and the T20 World Cup. Despite so many injury problems, Ali still believes England has enough firepower to challenge a strong Pakistan team that recently lost to Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup. “The only person I think that’s not here is Ben Stokes from the guys who could be here,” Ali said. “Throughout the summer we had injuries, but it gives good opportunities for new players to come in.” Pakistan will be hoping its captain Babar Azam returns to form after a below-par Asia Cup where he scored only 68 runs in six games. Key players Fakhar Zaman and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will miss the series because of knee injuries. Babar’s opening partner Mohammad Rizwan finished as the top run-getter of the Asia Cup and also rose to the No. 1-ranked batter in the T20 rankings. However, Rizwan was often criticized for playing too many dot balls — especially during the first six overs of batting powerplay — after Babar struggled in the Asia Cup. “It will be good if you don’t overthink too much about the bad patch,” Babar told reporters about his run of poor scores in the Asia Cup. “It’s cricket, your graph gets upand down, but as a team, we always try to back those who are not doing well.”

“To come out of a bad patch, it’s best not to overthink and keep things simple. The main thing is to keep believing in yourself. I know I’ve done well in the past and will do well in the future.”Despite Babar’s form, there were several positives for Pakistan to arise from the Asia Cup that they can take into the England series and the T20 WorldArguablyCup. the biggest one was the emergence of teenage pacer Naseem Shah, who proved himself a reliable bowler in the shortest format, despite his tender age of 19. That he did so in the absence of Shaheen Afridi was particularly impressive.
