A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) powers to initiate contempt of court proceedings. Mian Shabbir Ismail, the petitioner, filed the petition through Advocate Azhar Siddiqui, wherein the ECP and the Punjab government were made parties. The plea challenged Section 10 of the Election Act, 2017, contending that the ECP was neither a court nor can it exercise judicial powers, and giving it the power to initiate contempt proceedings was a violation of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973. It further argued that the power of contempt proceedings lies only with the court, and the ECP did not have any authority in this regard since it is only an administrative body. Ismail also argued that if the ECP had to be given the powers to initiate contempt proceedings, it would have been provided for in the constitution. Therefore, the petitioner requested the court to issue an injunction against Section 10. It is pertinent to note that earlier this week, PTI chief Imran Khan also challenged the jurisdiction of the electoral watchdog in his written reply to the ECP in a contempt case, saying the notice issued to him was against the Constitution. The written reply maintained that he had not insulted the election commission. However, terming the reply unsatisfactory, the election supervisor issued a show-cause notice to the PTI chief and summoned him in a personal capacity on September 27. Last month, the ECP had issued notices to the PTI chief and party leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar for levelling allegations against the commission and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja. The ECP spokesperson in a statement had maintained that notice had been issued to the PTI chairman for using “insulting and unparliamentary language” against the electoral body in various speeches. The commission said the notices were issued after reviewing speeches of the PTI leaders which were provided by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) at the electoral body’s request.

LONDON: The torrential monsoon that has submerged more than a third of Pakistan was a one in a hundred-year event likely made more intense by climate change, scientists have said. In the hardest-hit areas of Sindh and Balochistan, where August rainfall was seven to eight times heavier than usual, climate warming made average five-day maximum rainfall about 75 percent more intense, according to a report by World Weather Attribution (WWA), an international research collaboration that teases out the role of climate change in extreme events. Across the entire Indus River basin, the scientists found maximum rainfall was about 50 percent heavier during a two-month monsoon period due to climate change. They used 31 computer models in their analysis, combined with real-world observations. WWA previously analysed the deadly heatwave that scorched India and Pakistan in March and April, with temperatures reaching 50C. Climate change, they said, had made that heatwave 30 times more likely. Their findings were less concrete for Pakistan’s heavy rains. “The role of climate change in heatwaves is much larger than in extreme rainfall when it comes to [increasing] likelihood,” said WWA co-leader Friederike Otto, a climate scientist at Imperial College London. reuters

It is worth mentioning here that Maulana Sarjan Barkati, a resident of Reban area of Shopian, became a household name during the mass uprising triggered by the extrajudicial killing of popular youth leader, Burhan Wani, in 2016 for his distinct style of sloganeering. He was arrested in October that year and subsequently booked under draconian PSA. A cleric and a charismatic crowd puller, Maulana Barkati was released in 2020 after being kept in illegal detention by the occupation authorities for four years. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the arrest spree unleashed by Indian police and troops across IIOJK to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle. He said the Indian forces’ personnel have arrested dozens of people including religious leaders during house raids and cordon and search operations across the occupied territory in the last few days and booked many of them under the PSA. Women are more prone to domestic violence in societies that lack power balance. However, in South Asian countries, the male partner always has certain powers over the other. This power imbalance begins early in life— when the male-child is given preference over the girl-child, girls are not given equal opportunities for learning and growth— and when one parent overpowers the other. It is indeed this male entitlement which becomes the root cause of their superiority over women. Girls are taught to be subservient to their families and partners. So, if intimate partners subject them to abuse they are unable to identify it. even if they recognise abuse and want to escape it, they have to overcome many barriers.
Thus, inquiring about one’s right when it is infringed is not disobedience. It adds a new soul to your consciousness and body to value your existence and position in society.

Tis deemed immoral and unethical— by a large part of religious extremists, and invincible supporters of patriarchy— to talk about women's status in society because men hold complete monopoly and hegemony over their lives owing to their financial dominance and physical strength. Some men are by nature egocentric and want to rule things according to their will neglecting women’s will and consent. Women, being the strongest and most trustworthy companion of men, have been marginalized historically by misogynists and many others who believe in patriarchy.

The overall literacy rate for women in Pakistan is around 52 percent while only 33.5 percent of women in Balochistan are literate. Women are at a loss to attain education owing to cultural barriers, and unavailability of schools near their homes. The Government of Balochistan should establish schools and provide a conducive environment as a carrot to entice them towards emotionaleducation.andfinancial independence of women is the best tool to lessen male manipulation and exploitation. The government of Balochistan should catapult women into the economic realm to be selfsufficient through different schemes by utilizing women’s inborn skills through which they can make their lives economically sustainable. Women should be educated because educated women are tantamount to being proud wives, mothers, and daughters of the nation. Only educated women can make informed and independent decisions in every stage of life.
To end this prevalent gender inequality, we just need to stop differentiating between boys and girls. Male entitlement should be discouraged. Parents should not put a whole premium on boys' education. Girls should be educated because it unlocks a woman’s potential, and is accompanied by improvements in the well-being of their families.

They were intended to polarize Hindu voters against Muslims. “For selecting the boys for this purpose, there was a state-level meeting of VHP in Thane (Maharashtra). Or Sarfraz Ahmed, who captained us to our Championships Trophy win, with a team that had barely made the cut to play it in the first place and cheers on the team as if he were on the playing squad. And then, there’s the profile in grace and team spirit that is Hassan Ali, star of the aforementioned Champions Trophy. Having lost out his place in the squad to naseem Shah, he cheered the former’s winning sixes by rushing onto the field as if they were his own, regardless of what they might permanently do to his position on the team.

HATthe UnICeF representative told media about the condition of children in flood-affected regions of the country once again underlines that the grimness of the situation created by the cataclysmic floods. Also that the scale of the destruction caused is simply colossal. As he put it, floods had by now claimed the lives of at least 528 children; an estimated 16 million children have been impacted by ‘super floods’ and at least 3.4 million girls and boys remained in need of immediate, lifesaving support. As the UnICeF rep concluded, without a massive increase in support and aid, many more children would lose their lives.
According to the affidavit, Shinde was involved with the RSS since 1990 when he was 18. He went to Jammu in 1994 after reading that Hindus were being killed in the state, and Indresh Kumar, an RSS veteran, appointed him as the “vistarak’ (a post in the RSS) of Rajauri and Jawaharnagar. In 1995, Shinde was arrested for slapping former chief minister Farooq Abdullah but was bailed out. He was acquitted in 1998.

owing to the marginalization of female gender. The principle on which it circulates is often misinterpreted and miscalculated. It generally conveys the simplest message that can be grabbed easily by human intellect and mind; It says “Women are not superior creatures; women can do better than men”.
It is those very same qualities that seem to be in short supply when it comes to our retired and almost-retired cricketers. First, there was Shoaib Malik, who implied in a tweet that skipper Babar includes his personal cliques in the team. Then there was a schoolboy jibe that Muhammad Amir hurled at the chief selector and his “cheap” selections. These two gentlemen, specially Malik, feel it was wrong to edge them out of the team. But there are other players that have retired since a while that aren’t acting appropriately either. There’s the Rawalpindi express, with his complaints against some of the players selected for the upcoming WCT20 squad. And then, there’s Shahid Afridi, who claimed on live television that Pakistani pacer - his son-in-law-to-be - Shaheen Afridi paid for a surgical procedure in the UK out of his own pocket, a claim denied by PCB chief Rameez Raja. But the PR damage done by implying the Board wasn’t footing the medical bills of its star player, ranked as last year’s ICC Cricketer of the Year, would have rankled.
The difference between champion athletes and sportsmen might not show up on tournament statistics. But we can see it at times like these.

Feminism has given much voice to their unheard voices. Feminism is a socio-political movement with the aim of creating an egalitarian society and putting an end to gender bias. Sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence, unequal pays, disdain for equal rights, oppression against women are the reasons women and men appear in feminist movements like Aurat March which exhorts women empowerment in society. It is a revolutionary attempt by some brave Pakistani women which represents the unheard voices of millions of oppressed women across the world who lost their agency, honour, life due to the historicised masculinity.

Pashtun society has been less inclined towards education and equal opportunities. The notion that they are educationally backward are mostly debunked. It is exuberant to see a paradigm change in the thinking pattern of many sections of Pashtun society in Balochistan questioning the idea that women are best suited for household chores and therefore should remain within confines of four walls. Many sections of the Pashtun community don’t believe in

What the government needs in order to rescue and rehabilitate the flood-affected families are sufficient funds amounting to billions of dollars. With winter approaching, life for those lying in the open, particularly in Balochistan, will become hard. Foreign help in the form of goods and cash is slowly pouring in. Self-respect however requires raising funds from inside Pakistan before seeking others’ help. Political parties however prefer to carry the begging bowl rather than tax well-to-do supporters. Pakistanis, both from inside the country and abroad have contributed money to relief organisations they trust. However, the section of the country’s super rich has yet to open its purses. Those possessing costly petrol-guzzling cars, extra large residences and frequently traveling abroad need to be imposed a hefty flood tax , at least for one time. The government needs to convene a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) and seek provincial governments’ input regarding raising of funds to rehabilitate the flood affectees. The recently set up national Flood Response and Coordination Centre needs to plan for the future and devise ways to efficiently implement it.
For many political observers, election is the last option to steer the country out of the crisis. The logic being that once the new leadership is in place; it will inspire the technocrats to do the needful. However, the sorry aspect is that all the political players might have ideas in mind to steer the country out of the quagmire; however, none might be practical enough to make a difference. A great change in the unwritten social contract, from the viewpoint of minimizing the overbearing shadow of the “national security state” to give way to the welfare state, can be the way forward.Crisis can be minimized if the afflicted masses are still subsidized within with courage by the leaders. Asking for each permission from the remote forces might only aggravate the crisis. Pakistan needs to think “Turkey” or “Iran” to face the truth and get on the road again. Otherwise the situation on ground is nothing but a recipe for civil war.

Apart from the fact that the current flood shock has devastated the current supply lines and caused prohibitive inflation; the scenario onwards is not without fears. The agricultural sector is in shambles on the count that the human resource which is responsible for the sowing of the fresh crop and vegetables is in crisis itself. As a matter of fact, whether it is wheat, rice and major fruits and vegetables, Sindh as a contributor has not much to offer as the season progresses.
THelack of efficiency on the part of district administration in naushahro Feroze is appalling. Floodwater has put thousands of local residents at risk, and community members have tried approaching the local authorities and influential individuals with rescue pleas, but no one has responded. The people had to build a temporary embankment themselves to protect their fields and houses. The villagers of Imam Abad and adjoining vicinities actually rented heavy machinery, but when they requested for funds earmarked for relief and rescue in every district, all they had to come across was deadly silence. The matter needs some attention.
Given the fact that the Pakistani market has an inelastic demand for the major food
As the future scenario looks bleak as far as supply lines are concerned, it can be well imagined how much impact on food basket can be contemplated. To begin with, the meat basket is likely to inflate the Sensitive Price Index of 53-odd items; with kitchen items dominating the list. With so many animals, potentially many of the available lot used for husbandry multiplication; the livestock market can face a prolonged shortage all over the country. With few animals available for sacrifice, the price of meat, minced meat and other varieties which are already on the higher side is expected to escalate

THeFederal Board of Intermediate and Secondary education has become a great patron for the students for the last few years, with a number of the students scoring mysteriously high in various examinations. It is becoming irritatingly common to get over 90 per cent marks. The A+ grade is losing its shine because it is easy to attain.

Cruelty against women
THIS refers to the beggar’s mafia in the city. They are teasing the passer-by people. Their place of begging is a petrol pump, the gate of the shopping malls, and the entrance place of the religious gates and parking areas. They have an eye on the person when they come to such places. As it is a practice that when they stand at the petrol pump for inserting petrol into their cars. The petrol purchaser gives money. They are surrounding the person who is paying the money to the petrol boy. They are targeting the person who is paying money from his wallet. They don’t see that he is with his family or any person who is special to him. Beggars are compelling him to pay him money by all means. Beggars are demanding amounts that they want. But when we refuse then they curse us. They say that you are with wealth and riches. Why you are not giving us money. They bargain and pass the comments. Their attitude is unusual and causes a misdemeanor. So the government must take action against them. This has also been observed that they are professional beggars. They are not needy. They have become habitual of begging. Though they are fit in health. If they do any work other than begging it could be better for them.Due to them, the needy person is suffering. It is therefore requested to the district administration look after the professional beggars who are exploiting the people. As it is law in the other developed countries like Saudi, Japan, and Arab countries that begging is a ban. The police and city administration take strict vigilance. They arrest the beggars sitting in crowded places. So these countries take the responsibility to give security to the person. They see the needy person and pay the monthly remuneration from the treasure.
Unfortunately, when it comes to quality education, at least 4Cs of the 21st century skill-set — critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication — the number of students who are able to contemplate beyond the necessary livelihood and future illusions is quite minimal. The dilemma is: how can we get rid of this rote-learning-based education system? What are the factors that prevent the authorities and political leadership from educating the nation in its true essence? Isn’t it the era of information technology (IT) and biotechnology? Can this saga of numbering-game take the country out of its socio-political as well as economic crises?
On the back of this uncertainty, the wheat crop which is sown in Sindh earlier than Punjab and KPK is likely to be impacted; not just the short-term supply issues, but its devastating impact on long term supply line issues cannot be ruled out.
Where there is memorisation, there is no room for critical thinking. The state must ponder over the peculiar numbering-game and memorisation-based education. The problem not only is the issue of marks in the examinations, but the lack of actual intellect. And that is the matter that should concern us.
The last-mentioned factor has hit hard at the cutting-edge security the otherwise sluggish Pakistani economy has always maintained; food security. As information; collected by the sitting government as well as external agencies like WB, IMF and UnO stream in; the biggest casualty is going to the food basket, pushing a great number of people beneath the poverty line.

The timing of floods has ruined or seriously damaged the rice crop which was otherwise standing for harvest. The consequent impact on the paddy market at the onset of October 2022 is that the Punjab-based crop will have to take the complete load of the domestic as well as the international demand. Here we may not forget the fact that the food market in Afghanistan invariably depends upon the Pakistani supply lines for catering to its ever-growing demand. Another loss can be in the domain of textiles where the staple raw material cotton might have been washed away, especially in Sindh.

AKISTAnseems to be in for a serious bout of inflation in the coming days and weeks; partially the situation is aggravated by the external shocks like bad exchange rate adjustment by the central bank; a haphazard withdrawal of subsidy by the incumbent government in the rush for the IMF programme, especially in the all-encompassing energy prices and lastly due to the global warmingtriggered abnormal monsoons.

IT hurts me a lot to mention that Balochistan is the only province where girls are suffering a harsh life because cruelty on women is increasing day by day. They are surviving a fearful and painful life in order not be chased by the cruel men of our society. They have left their school owing to our monstrous society. Their vitality is snatched so that they can’t raise their voice. But unfortunately yet our men are unaware of the dignity of women. Most importantly, they are told some statement by their own surrounding that hurts a lot don’t wear such clothes because they are thick, laugh less because you are a women and sit property so that no one should blame you. What’s this? Don’t women have the rights to live the world in their own ways? Why so much cruelty on women? If they are just born to do the home chores, then kill them the time, then give birth in this cruel worldwhat kind of life is that?

plus per kg. That situation is further aggravated on the count that what is sold can be customized: a lower category can be sold as Basmati.Wheat, which is sown in Sindh after the clearing of the fields from rice and sugarcane crops, also faces the prospect of delayed sowing or less than expected sowing. Given the hard fact that the incumbent government is likely to shy away from anything having a semblance of subsidy, there is a big question mark, as to how the government in charge trades off between providing an effective subsidy now for a good wheat crop; or it allows the market forces to take their path, compromise the bumper yield; which is a time-tested dividend of an alluvial soil-enriched flood plain, and import wheat for consumption.Hereone might not lose sight of the fact that the government also lost a part of its strategic wheat reserves under the head of PASSCO, Sindh and Punjab Food department godowns which were in the flood-hit areas in all the four provinces of Pakistan. On the sidelines; another issue which can bother the food basket is the expected impact of the chaos on the coming sugarcane crop harvest trends and their effect on the processed sugar prices; another inflation multiplier for the confectionery and sweetTheindustry.lossof food security and with the economy and polity in shambles, Pakistanis as a nation might not have wished a scenario worse than that. Importance of Critical Thinking
THeflood in Khairpur nathan Shah could have been stopped from entering the main city had effective steps been taken in time. The residents had to rush to safer places, leaving their precious assets behind. What is more disturbing is that provincial officials, who are said to be receiving funds under various heads, are seemingly lining their own pockets. The entire process of distribution of funds needs to be monitored in order to ensure that funds and relief goods do end up in the right hands.
grain wheat, any government; political or otherwise, cannot afford to look the other way and fail to address the issue. The options available for Pakistan are import of wheat as well as rice, if the final market supply aggregate for the winter season is not up to the mark. Here it may be noted that the winters in Pakistan are generally regarded as the marriage season and during the season; supply of major food inputs like rice, wheat flour and meat; chicken; beef and mutton, fetch high prices. As per the international agencies estimates, about two million acres of land all over Pakistan, inclusive of Sindh, KPK, Punjab and Balochistan, are under water with a standing crop, predominantly rice.
The reason for that slide will be the inability of a large number of people to buy food in the volume which conforms to the minimum nutrition standard. That inability has already generated frustration among large sections of public, and political parties in their opportunism do not shy away from providing the frustrated with fast moving CG 125 bikes and 9 mm pistols; hence a rise in street crime all over the country and especially in the large urban centres like Karachi, where the contrast between haves and havenots is so stark.

Likewise, further.the prices of major kitchen inputs like tomato and onion demonstrate that the pressure on kitchen budgets of a common man is going to be intense. Here it may be pointed out that a section of unscrupulous traders favoring higher prices for the sake of profit can sabotage import of the essential vegetables from the neighbouring countries on both sides of the border under any national security or hate tag.

nSeptember 2, the finance ministers of the g7 countries— Canada, France, germany, italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—released a statement confirming their plans to implement price caps on russian crude oil and petroleum products.
if the g7 can successfully enforce a price cap, it could keep the price of oil relatively stable while limiting russia’s profits, finding a middle ground between the status quo and an earlier proposal to issue a complete ban on insuring russian oil shipments that was to take effect at the end of the year, and which would likely have seen the price of oil skyrocket. Questions about whether this plan can be put into action, and how effective it will be, remain.

THE BIG REGULATORY DEBATE: regulation is an important policy instrument for governing the media around the world. given our apartheid past and the negative impact regulation and censorship had on media freedom in this country, we still have deep anxieties about any form of regulation that involves government. this probably explains the coregulation dispensation that we have settled for post-1994. this is a compromised system that sits somewhere between self-regulation and state regulation. Our system provides no space for government involve-

UNFETTERED POWER AND ABUSE: the case of the journalists involved in extortion points to a real danger as we traverse a journey of building robust democratic institutions for our future as a nation. Although there may be no need to sound alarm bells at the moment, we have to be deeply concerned when there are cases of corruption involving this vital pillar of our democratic edifice. Journalists, and therefore media institutions, wield considerable power in society that ordinary citizens do not have. how sustainable is it to allow the media with so much power in society to get on with its business with no government involvement? is this current system of co-regulation that is exclusive of any government involvement not carrying in its own belly the poison that will in the future lead to the death of the very institution we wish to shield from government interference? not everything that involves government as a partner is evil or a threat to democracy and the current system of regulation that excludes a democratically elected government can contribute to the death of this institution.

After the AnC’s Polokwane conference in 2007, there were debates around the establishment of a media appeals tribunal as part of attempts to strengthen our regulatory architecture, but there was vehement opposition from various sectors of the public, including the media itself. the AnC’s current discussion policy documents make no explicit mention of a tribunal, but there’s nothing stopping the delegates at the AnC’s conference in December raising the issue as part of deliberations and, ultimately, resolutions. What is important to highlight is that debates around this issue are continuing given the shortcomings presented by the current regulatory regime, which is explicitly voluntary in nature and involves no government representation.
PUTIN HAS ALREADY THREATENED RETALIATION AGAINST COUNTRIES THAT PARTICIPATE IN CAPPING OIL PRICES IF RUSSIA DOES NOT ABIDE BY THE PRICE CAP, IT COULD PROVOKE A WAR OF ATTRITION BETWEEN MOSCOW AND THE WEST. from sales are still preferable to none, this is not necessarily the case. “russia is a strategic player with a somewhat exotic value function, adept at negative-sum games,” Sergey vakulenko, an independent energy analyst and the former head of Strategy and innovations at gazprom neft, wrote in a July 2022 article for Carnegie Politika. “With that in mind, Moscow could well be inclined to call the West’s bluff and establish not a price ceiling but a floor for its crude, prohibiting exports at a price lower than that threshold. ... and then Moscow could simply wait for buyers’ cartel defectors to come knocking at its door.”Putin has already threatened retaliation against countries that participate in capping oil prices. And as with any other sanctions, Putin and his allies are surely conceiving how to successfully circumvent the impending caps, including whether oil exports could be insured by russian or Asian insurers. the other important factor to consider is how other important stakeholders outside of russia or the g7 respond to the initiative, in-
Momin Ali Khan is a lawyer who has taken on more family law cases due to high demand. Khan told DW that women from educated or affluent backgrounds usually file for khula when the marriage is no longer working, even if it is at the cost of foregoing their dowry. it is more challenging for women from rural areas or poor socioeconomic backgrounds, as they generally cannot forego the financial support, he added.hania (name changed) comes from a workingclass family in islamabad, and managed to earn a bachelors' degree, and aspires to get a high-paying job. She had been arranged to marry her cousin, but did not want to, despite her parents’ wishes. On the day she was to depart to a village where her cousin lives for her wedding, the 23-year-old ran away. As a contract had already been signed for the marriage, hania filed for a khula. Due to the massive taboo and "shame" surrounding divorce in rural Pakistan, hania was disowned by her family and told DW her life may be in danger if she returns to the village. now, hania has married for "love" and is living with her husband and his family in islamabad.
Orewomen in Pakistan are choosing to leave their marriages, despite divorce remaining a complicated social taboo in the country's conservative culture. Women's rights activists say the increase comes as women in the islamic nation's patriarchal society are becoming more empowered and are less willing to settle for abusive marriages. in Pakistan, divorce is not monitored by any dedicated agency and rules are dictated by Sharia or islamic law.
in the South Asian country, a woman cannot "file for divorce" but rather has the right to dissolve a marriage under Sharia without the consent of her husband. this is called a "khula" and is arbitrated by a family court. there are several reasons for which a wife can seek a dissolution of marriage under khula. these include spousal abuse, the husband leaving or a husband's mental health issues. Although official rates of women seeking to dissolve their marriages aren't recorded, the number of khulas seems to be rising. According to a 2019 survey carried out by gallup and gilani Pakistan, 58% of Pakistanis believe that divorce is becoming more prevalent in the country. the survey found that 2 in 5 of the respondents believed that a couple's in-laws were responsible for most of these cases.

if russia does not abide by the price cap, it could provoke a war of attrition between Moscow and the West. if Putin decides to halt exports to countries that enforce the cap before December, oil prices would again increase, creating a political headache for Biden ahead of the approaching midterm elections.Consequently, while the intentions behind the price cap may be worthwhile, it may be difficult to carry out in practice. there are too many different stakeholders that must be accounted for, and if the g7, russia, and OPeC are all unwilling to budge, the costs could be significant.
in other parts of the world, extortion has established itself as a “normal” way of survival (including avoiding media scrutiny) and doing business because of the massive power wielded by criminal groups such as ndrangheta and Camorra in italy’s Calabria and Campania, respectively.
M
the crime of extortion, however, becomes even more worrying when it takes up residence in newsrooms. the primary task of journalists is to report on news events and incidents and provide insights through analysis of these events. Once they become perpetrators of extortion, it’s time for society to be deeply worried. Corruption in the media is something that many parts of the world, especially developing countries, are grappling with. Media in developing countries are often faced with challenges that include low professional standards, insufficient financial resources, inadequate legal frameworks and poor training. these factors have the potential to seriously undermine the integrity of the media, leading to significant trust problems between the media and the society that it serves. there are also external factors such as restrictions on press freedom that can hamper the watchdog role of the media. the challenge lies in striking a workable balance between these internal operational and external regulatory factors in the interests of society’s good.

Simply put, as a criminal offence extortion involves the demand for money via the use of violence or some other form of victimisation. in the case of media and journalists, this victimisation may take the form of an unfavourable or “hostile” media exposure. Why is the story of two journalists accused of extortion such an important news incident in the context of the myriad events and incidents worthy of our attention as a nation?

my cooking skills. Once my cooking business took off a bit and i felt i could become financially independent, i became emotionally independent enough to finally leave my marriage," the 41-year-old told DW. Shazia is able to support herself on what she earns, however, it is very difficult to give her sons the lifestyle she wants for them. Although islamic law is very clear about women's right to alimony, the reality is that many women like Shazia do not receive anything from an ex-husband.
But aiding the West in enforcing a price cap on russian oil may also run counter to Saudi Arabian—and the other members of OPeC’s—interests. Setting a price cap poses a direct threat to OPeC’s ability to set global oil prices. “Paradoxically, russia may get some help from the OPeC countries here. For them, an emerging buyers’ cartel risks potentially manipulating the entire oil market and its prices,” writes vakulenko in a recent follow-up to his July article for Carnegie. therefore, regardless of whether or not Saudi Arabia has additional oil supply, it may be hesitant to increase exports.
the idea of the price cap is to leverage the United States and europe’s control of the insurance and shipping services to prohibit those industries from facilitating any oil shipment that does not meet the yet-to-bedetermined price cap, thus forcing russia to abide by the regulation. Once the plan is finalized, the g-7 countries hope to implement the cap on crude oil starting on December 5, with the cap on refined products to follow two months Secretarylater.of the treasury Janet yellen called the move “a critical step forward in achieving our dual goals of putting downward pressure on global energy prices while denying [russian president vladimir] Putin revenue to fund his brutal war in Ukraine,”

Cases of formal divorce in Pakistan must be initiated by the husband. Unlike a khula, the husband's consent is mandatory. raza added that there are more family courts being established that cater to family law, khula and guardianship issues. She noted that there has also been an increase in the number of family law judges. raza said more women are aware that they can leave marriages for reasons other than physical abuse, including psychological abuse or simply "not getting anything" out of a marriage.
