Thank you for being part of our story so far. It’s people like you who make Princess Alice Hospice so special.

40 years of compassion

Back in 1980, there was no hospice in our area. But people like Peter Munday believed that local people deserved high-quality end of life care and worked hard to make sure they got it.

Thanks to their efforts – and the help of generous supporters – the Hospice’s doors opened, with Peter, as one of the founding Board of Trustees. From day one, they insisted on state-of-the-art equipment and the finest medical team.

We couldn’t do it without our incredible staff, like Healthcare Assistants Martin and Kanue

40 years of care

For 40 years we’ve been providing compassionate palliative and end of life care to local people, because we believe that life is for living. We’re proud to help people in our local area live every last moment to the full in comfort and dignity. Gifts in Wills help us be there for the important things at the end of life, such as offering warmth and reassurance – and creating precious memories.

Martin says, “Youfeelyou’veachieved something.You’vemadesuresomeone’slast daysareascomfortableaspossible.Thereare specialmomentswhentheyholdyourhand orsaythankyou–andit’sarealthankyou. I’mgratefulIcandothisjob.”

Kanue says, “Ireallyenjoyspending timewithdifferentpatientsandfamilies –helpingthem, speakingwiththemand ensuringthey’reOK.”

40 years of being on your doorstep

Providing compassionate care – free of charge – to our local communities means everything to us. But it comes at a cost of over £12 million a year. We wouldn’t be able to achieve this without gifts in Wills.

Gifts in Wills pay for over a third of our care each year, on our In-Patient Unit, in people’s homes and at our Wellbeing Centre.

They also help fund our community services – including our Man Shed, Compassionate Neighbours volunteer project and bereavement services, like our monthly Dovetail group for bereaved children.

It’s the reason we’re so grateful to supporters like Maureen, who has decided to leave

everything to Princess Alice Hospice, as a legacy of thanks, after we cared for her husband Raymond.

As the Hospice was nearby, Raymond could come and take part in support sessions, while giving Maureen a break. It also meant we could provide him with vital equipment, so he could stay at home as long as possible. And it was a kind, loving place for Raymond to spend his final days – with Maureen by his side.

Maureen says,
“Iknowmy giftwillbe spentinthe bestway possible.”

40 years of incredible support

Thanks to local people like you, the support we give wraps around our patients and those closest to them. We support families long after their loved one dies. Many choose to leave a legacy to let their love live on. This is certainly true of Allan, who writes a family update to his wife Marie every year in our visitors’ book.

Allan says, “WhenwelostMarieinApril2001,Idecided thenandtheresheneededanannualfamilyupdate.Shewas only60.Itrulybelievetheexcellentcareshereceivedgave usmoretimetogether.Inherfinalweeks,shegottoseeour twingranddaughtersattheHospice,whowereonlysix monthsold.Thatwasthebestthingever.

Will you help us be there in the years to come?

As we celebrate our anniversary, it’s vital we also focus on the future. We want to be here to deliver the best care for years to come. But to do that, we need the support of local people – which is why we’re asking you to consider leaving a gift in your Will.
