CLICK HERE TO REQUEST A PICK UP We’re taking the reins back this year: Pine Needle Pick-Up Guidelines Pick-ups are scheduled on a weekly cycle WITH THE 1ST pick up schedule to start MAY 6th: Any requests submitted by 5:00 PM on Monday will be included in that week’s route, beginning Wednesday. Requests submitted Tuesday through the following Monday will be scheduled for the next week’s pick-up. Important Reminders: Plastic bags will not be collected. Only recyclable paper bags—available locally at Ace—will be accepted. Each property is allotted 20 bags per year at no cost. After the initial 20 bags, additional pick-ups will still be scheduled at a rate of $4.25 per bag. Sustainability Effort: We’re proud to share that collected pine needles will not be sent to the landfill. Instead, they will be repurposed locally for composting and soil production, supporting area farms and sustainable practices.

August Lakes Current Conditions and Fishing Recommendations for August
The lakes are in fair condition heading into the latter part of the summer. Some recent scattered rain showers and cloud cover have helped a little, but epic drought conditions and summer heat have been the pattern for most of the summer. As of mid-August, the water temperatures at Hatcher Lake were sitting around 70 degrees and the lower three lakes were around 72 degrees (measured at about 3 feet depth near the dams). A little cooler than it was 3 or 4 weeks ago. Water temperatures in this range are in the upper limits of what trout can tolerate for extended periods of time and the fishery is under a significant stress level; however, the fish can go to deeper water to find a little bit of relief. Fishing has slowed down the last few weeks compared to earlier this summer; mornings and evenings are the best bet for catching fish right now. But please keep in mind that the fish are stressed, especially the trout, and if you plan to release a fish after being caught, extreme care must be taken. Do not play the fish on the line; bring them in as quickly as possible. Do not remove the fish from the water when releasing the hook and use an appropriate needle-nosed pliers or similar tool. Barbless hooks are highly recommended. Many stretches of State creek and river systems are under voluntary fishing advisories. The bass continue to be very active on crank and topwater baits; and the trout are becoming a little more active in the mornings with some late summer insect hatches feeding on top. Crappie are active, especially at Village Lake in deeper water. Hopefully, the monsoon patterns continue into August and September, and we are already noticing the days getting a bit shorter. We do plan to stock the lakes in late September or early October and anticipate that fishing will improve as we head into the end of summer and early fall.
Free Firewood Available
The Association has arranged for free firewood from recently thinned Ponderosa Pine trees in the greenbelt. Available within the next 4 to 6 weeks, this firewood is cut into smaller rounds, making it easier for residents to manage. Currently, there is a stash located near the west end of Park Avenue, just uphill from Vista Blvd, marked with orange cones. Residents are encouraged to help themselves to the firewood. Anticipate additional announcements regarding future stashes in Lakewood Village, Lake Pagosa Park, and Twincreek. This initiative not only provides valuable firewood but also promotes better spacing and health for the surrounding forest. Enjoy the benefits of sustainable management while staying warm this season!
