Write a Story!

Hi! We are Pages & Pictures, a club dedicated to increasing diversity in children's literature.

We started a picture book writing project to highlight stories written for kids by kids.

Students in our community are writing and illustrating books to share their culture and identity.

These books will be displayed digitally on our website: pagesandpictures.com We know young people have important stories to tell, so we hope that we can share your story with the rest of the world!

Write a Story!

Instructions Write and illustrate a picture book story on the provided book template in your packet.

Please have your parent sign our form before submitting your story! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Think of a story you could write that fits with our theme of "This is Me".

Write your story in the provided book template and illustrate it in color.

Provide a unique title and cover for you story.

Remember to sign your name on your cover (you are the author after all!).

Optional: Make a dedication page at the front of you book.

Is there someone special you would like to dedicate your book to? If so you can dedicate your book to them!

Place your completed story and your signed form in the big envelope. Please sign your name on the front (first and last).

THEME: This is Me Share about your culture, identity, heritage, or any topic that highlights what makes you unique.

Things to think about: Have you faced any challenges in your life? Do you celebrate special customs or traditions? What makes you special? Do you have any interesting passions or stories to tell?

Guidelines Below are guidelines to follow when writing your book Please AVOID...

Using violence, inappropriate language or references Copying existing stories or copying existing illustrations (i.e. tracing off the internet) Referring to brands or companies (i.e. McDonald's, Target, Toy's 'R' Us)

Use lots of colors in your drawings Use good descriptions in your stories Remember this doesn't have to be perfect, just share a story and we will love it!
