Jobe, McCall, Miller named to Clarinda Foundation board
Brown, Walter, Varley recognized for service
The Clarinda Foundation board of directors held its annual meeting on May 1. At that meeting, board officers for the fiscal year beginning June 1 were elected: president, Renee Riedel; vice president, Eddie Lisle; treasurer, Cynthia Alvarez. Beckie T. Finch, executive director, was appointed as board secretary.
Jobe is currently employed as an Ag/ Commercial loan officer for Bank Iowa.
Three community members were newly elected to the board: Jake Jobe, Jeff McCall, and Ivan Miller.
He graduated from high school in Winterset, started college at Iowa Central College, and graduated from Oklahoma State University
DEATH NOTICE
Ruby Sharon Knight was born on October 6, 1950 in Acworth, Georgia, the daughter of Dennis Corbin and Ruby Louise (Stinnett) Knight, Sr. Sharon entered into eternal peace on Sunday, July 20, 2025 in Shenandoah, Iowa surrounded by her loving family.
Sharon’s early years were spent in the state of Oregon. She graduated from McNary High School and later went on to attend Chemeketa Community College for a short time. In June of 1974 she was united in marriage to Steven Garrett, they later divorced. On February 14, 1983 she was united in marriage to Joseph Culley in Salem, Oregon.
Sharon was no stranger to hard work! he took on many jobs over the years to help provide for her family. Some of those jobs included bookkeeping and working for the Oregon Turkey Growers. Her last position was with West Central Community Action where she continued to serve others with dedication and passion. She also had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, which was evident in the way she lived and loved.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Dawn Buzzard, Richard Knight and wife Annie and Noel Sawyer and wife Lonnelle; brothers Dub Knight and wife Edna and Dennis Knight and wife Loree; grandchildren Jacob Buzzard, Nicholas Sawyer and Jillian Koch and husband Kyren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Celebration of Life Services were held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Wabash Memorial Chapel in Shenandoah. Memorials were directed to the family. Wabash Memorial Chapel was honored to have been entrusted with the arrangements.

“I am a transplant to Clarinda and have been involved with the community since we moved to town. I want to continue to be involved and think the foundation will be a good way for me to do so,” Jobe said.
McCall, the owner of McCall Carpentry for the past 32 years, has been active in the community for some time, including serving 16 years on the Clarinda city council.
He became interested in the foundation as he identified the benefits of awarding grants to local organizations, the donations from the foundation, and the awarding of scholarships to local students.
“The Clarinda community has been good to me, and I look forward to be able to give back to the community,” McCall said.
Also elected, Ivan Miller is a partner with Billings & Mensen Law Firm that just expanded its office to Clarinda.
He has worked in the Red Oak office since 2011, is the Page County magistrate, and is also a member of the Rotary Club of Red Oak.

Clarinda Senior Meal Site Director Doug Scott was honored July 17 for his 15 years of service as “chief cook and bottle washer.” He serves lunch Monday through Friday at the Lied Center, averaging more than 400 meals per month. Connections Area Agency on Aging offers nutritious meals to both homebound residents and those who attend. He is always searching for more delivery drivers. Scott was recognized for his attention to detail and caring for participants.

During the annual meeting, out-going board president Scott Brown, treasurer Mark Walter, and scholarship co-chair Jim Varley were recognized for their six years of service to
the Clarinda Foundation’s board of directors.
Brown served as president from 2023-2025 and vice president from 2020-2023, being the executive chair and nominations chair; member of the executive committee, the finance committee, the scholarship committee, the grants committee, in addition to serving on the Page County Foundation board. He was instrumental in establishing Clarinda’s “pocket parks” and is a
model of philanthropy.
Walter served several years as treasurer, being the finance chair and a member of the finance committee. He also served on the grants committee, the executive committee, and remains a member of the Page County Foundation board of directors.
He is a “whiz” at numbers and was known to explore and communicate the best options for Clarinda Foundation’s fiscal management.
Varley also served on multiple committees during his tenure: the executive committee, the activities committee, the finance committee, the grants committee, and the scholarship committee of which he was co-chair during the 2024-2025 term.
He displayed his ability to keep meetings efficient and was instrumental during a
campaign to benefit the Clarinda Veterans Fund.
Finch concluded, “With heartfelt gratitude, we honor the service of Scott, Mark, and Jim.
“Their dedication and leadership have left an enduring legacy of excellence for the Clarinda Foundation. We will forever be thankful for their service.”
