Clarinda Chamber announces 66th Annual Handmade Craft Carnival
The Clarinda Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the return of the 66th Annual Craft Carnival, Iowa’s largest handmade craft show. Scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., this beloved community tradition promises a full day of creativity, shopping, and fun for all ages.

Locations: Page County Fairgrounds – Cow Palace and Wibholm Hall, Clarinda Academy, Clarinda High School, and the Clarinda Lied Center
Admission: $5 (children under 10 free)
With more than 475 craft booths across five venues, attendees will discover an incredible variety of handmade treasures and
artistic creations.
Exhibitors from seven states — including Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and across Iowa—will showcase their talents.
Holiday and seasonal items will also be available for those eager to get a head start on gift shopping.
Shoppers can expect to find:
• Home décor, garden art, ironworks, pottery, and wooden furniture

Shenandoah High School junior Caroline Campbell was crowned Miss Shenandoah 2025 during ceremonies Sept. 21 at the Gladys Wirsig Jones Auditorium.

Campbell reigned over ShenFest activities Sept. 27, along with other members of the newly crowned royalty. Campbell was selected from among 13 contestants in grades 9–12.

This year’s pageant also introduced a new category — Junior Miss Shenandoah — open to grades 4–8.
Rylie Wooten earned the title, with Harley Miles as first runner-up, Destiny
Buttry as second runnerup, and Janiah Roberts chosen Miss Congeniality.
For younger contestants, the Little Miss Shenandoah title went to Macy Weston, competing in the kindergarten–third grade division.
First runner-up was Savi Rowland, second runnerup Eleanor Mather, and Miss Congeniality Lyric Jones.
In all, 73 girls participated across the three categories. Organizer Cassie Lundgren said the turnout exceeded expectations.
“It made for a longer event than normal but we were very happy with the interest,” Lundgren said. “I received a few
hugs from girls coming off stage, shaking but with huge smiles. I hope every single girl had fun, stepped out of their comfort zone, and most of all created memories that they’ll never forget.”
Lundgren credited volunteers, sponsors, family members, and judges for making the evening a success. “We
may only be in the second year of taking it over, with some kinks to work out, but we can’t say we don’t have a ton of fun,” she added.
The pageant winners also took part in the ShenFest Parade on Sept. 27 and will represent the community at area parades and events throughout the coming year.

Clarinda Kiwanians install new officers

Chelsea Ewigman was installed as new president of the Clarinda Kiwanis Club on the first day of the new club year, Oct. 1, 2025. Lieutenant Governor Joann Feller of Omaha came to do the ceremony, also installing Rick Finch as vice president, Elaine Armstrong as secretary and Tammy Horn as treasurer.
Teal Driscoll has been serving in the latter position. Outgoing president Whitney Beery sent a summary of the past year’s activities and encouragement for Ewigman as she assumes the role. The club is quite active
sponsoring the Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas parade, an adopted preschool class, water for Band Jamboree marchers, gifts for two Christmas families, plus helmets for third graders and Grandma’s House Daycare. They also help with Braddyville Baseball, the PTA Back to School Bash, Santa and Ghost Walk.
The club participates in Clarinda Foundation Giving Tuesday, which is Dec. 2 this year.
Last year $3,842 was donated for Kiwanis Park. Partners in the helmet project were Clarinda Regional Health Center, Highway 71 Trailer Superstore and the Murphy Family. Selling poinsettias is a fundraiser yet this fall.
Kiwanis meets the first and third Wednesday noon of each month at J’s Pizza and Steakhouse. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Anyone interested is welcome to attend a meeting or contact any of the members.
Kiwanis clubs in the Nebraska-Iowa District were reorganized into larger divisions this year and now Clarinda is with 10 other clubs. They include Red Oak, Hamburg, Glenwood, Atlantic, Council Bluffs Downtown, Bellevue, Omaha Golden K, Bellevue Offutt, Southwest Omaha and West Omaha.

The Shenandoah High School Class of 1970 gathered during ShenFest to celebrate their reunion. Twenty-five classmates, along with spouses, attended the dinner at the Elks Lodge, with some traveling from Orlando, Minneapolis, Des Moines, Kansas City, and Omaha.
