We got started making shoes for kayakers who were scrambling around on wet boulders in deep river canyons. To perform in this intense environment, we made our shoes balanced from heel to ball, incredibly grippy, extremely light, and always ready for water.

We found that these same elements provide a unique performance advantage on the steep trails into and out of wilderness rivers. It occurred to us that with a few tweaks, our fundamental approach to footwear could form the basis for a new generation of trail shoes.
