Creating
1. Consumers recycle
a circular economy for PET food packaging in New Zealand 6. Pact Packaging Wellington & Albany manufacture food packaging from the rPET 5. PET is processed in our Wellington wash plant to make rPET flakes, replacing imported virgin PET 4. Bales of PET are sent to Pact Packaging Wellington for processing 2. Collected and transported to Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) 3. Plastics are sorted, separated and baledNew Zealand’s only packaging manufacturer with integrated PET recycling capability.
Pact Packaging Wellington (formerly Flight Plastics) has capability to process more than 5,000 tonnes of recycled PET (rPET) each year, significantly enhancing our offering to customers in the fresh food segment in both New Zealand and Australia and providing capability to offer customers up to 100% locally-sourced recycled materials.
Pact’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr Sanjay Dayal, said “As an integrated recycling and packaging manufacturer we have a special position in the plastics value chain. We have capability not only to recycle plastics, but also to create demand for recycled materials through innovative packaging design and manufacture.”
Customers are increasingly demanding sustainable packaging that supports the local circular economy, and the acquisition of Flight is another important step in Pact’s strategy to lead the circular economy through reuse, recycling, and packaging solutions.
Industry and Government efforts to phase out hard to recycle plastics and increase sorting technologies have benefitted our circular economy. In addition to PET bottles, our Wellington plant now receives trays, punnets, and other PET products from your kerbside to recycle back into food-grade packaging. This is a great step forward for New Zealand in reusing precious resources and stepping further into the circular world.
