Nystagmus
for string quartet
Composed in 2012, Nystagmus is inspired by the experience of looking out from a moving train: fragments of trees, houses, and landscapes rush past too quickly to be grasped in detail. The piece seeks to capture that fleeting perception.
Built on serial techniques, the work also marked the beginning of my exploration of extended approaches to string performance.
Nystagmus was awarded Third Prize at the Internationaal Kamermuziek Festival Den Haag (2012), and was premiered by the Dudok Quartet at the Dr. Anton Philipszaal in The Hague.
The score was published by Donemus, a publisher of contemporary music based in the Netherlands.
