8 Representing Junior Showmen West of the Rockies

FROM THE

EDITOR I have an announcement. This will be my last issue as Owner/Editor of the Pacific Showcase magazine.

P.O. Box 41430 • San Jose, CA 95160 (408) 888-2503

Production Manager & Art Director: William Crump — (662) 305-5434 Email: pacificshowcase@gmail.com

As many of you know, two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and I am happy to say I am now cancer free! The past months have given me much time to reflect on how precious and fleeting life is and I want to focus my time on taking care of my health and being here for my family and my loved ones. After much thought and consideration, I have decided it is time to move my magazine on to new owners who will take it to a new generation of readers. Jed Asmus and Tyson Rule will be taking over the magazine after this issue.

New Owners as of November/December 2021 issue:

Check out their article in this issue for more information about their plans. I’m excited about their ideas and enthusiasm for the future and wish them the all the best in their new endeavor!

Publisher & Managing Editor: Heidi Beljean — (408) 888-2503 Email: pacshow@earthlink.net

Jed Asmus and Tyson Rule

My announcement is bittersweet. In my heart I am at peace with my decision but this magazine is my baby. My first issue came out at the 1994 California State Fair! I remember I was so excited to offer a publication to represent junior livestock enthusiasts throughout the western states. From youth exhibitors to breeders to livestock events, along with information and articles, we covered everything related to kids and animals!

Phone: (209) 485-9157 Email: pacshow2021@gmail.com Pacific Showcase limits its liability resulting from any and all errors, misprints and/or other inaccuracies in the advertisements and editorial content. The opinions or views expressed in all editorials are those only of the writer or persons interviewed and not the Pacific Showcase.

It has been a fantastic ride and I wouldn’t change a thing! I have met so many wonderful families and made life-long friends along the way. The journey has been amazing and these are priceless memories that I will cherish always!

Reproductions or other use of this magazine in whole or part of the contents without written permission of the editor is prohibited. Pacific Showcase welcomes readers contributions. Articles of interest, show results, sale results, and calendar dates are welcome and will be printed on space available. To have articles or pictures returned, include a stamped, selfaddressed envelope. Send all submissions to address above.

I have also decided to step down from the California Junior Livestock Association at this time. Nelson Hanson and Ashlee Anderson will be continuing with the CJLA under their California Youth Livestock Association. We will finish out 2021 as usual and they will be making announcements about their plans for 2022. I started CJLA in 2000 with the idea of an organization that would give kids an opportunity to exhibit their animals throughout the state and earn year-end awards for their efforts and achievements. I am so proud of the success of not only the CJLA, but of our many members throughout the years!

Pacific Showcase is published bimonthly. It is mailed first class and third class bulk mail at Morgan Hill, California. Postmaster: send address changes to Pacific Showcase, P.O. Box 41430, San Jose, CA 95160. Subscriptions: (Bulk mail - one year - $25; two years - $45.) (First class - one year - $35; two years $65.) For processing of new subscriptions - please allow 4 to 6 weeks. For address corrections, send current mailing label along with new address to Pacific Showcase.

As I close, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to each of you who supported and encouraged me, who have been there any time I called. And a huge thank you to William who brought each issue of the magazine to life – and did so much more, and to Mary Ann who has been my right-hand office person, and to each and every one who contributed to the magazine with articles or photos or social media – you know who you are and I thank you all!

Time to Plan Ahead! The November/December 2021 Issue is our

Jackpot Issue and the Start of the Sheep, Hog and Meat Goat Sales

Please feel free to reach out to me as Pacific Showcase makes the transition, or to Mary Ann Bush as CJLA wraps up 2021. Take care - hugs to you all!

Dillabo Livestock is a family-owned and operated show cattle business located in Northern California. Our family has been involved the cattle business for over 35 years, producing show steers, heifers and seedstock. We currently run around 100 cows and have developed some consistently top genetics in the club calf industry. Over the past few years we have worked intensely through embryo transfer to put those genetics to work and have been fortunate to breed some highly competitive stock that represent our program very well on a national and local level. We greatly value our buyers and are grateful for the support and trust that they have in our operation. Starting in October, we will be launching our first annual Made West Online Sale, which will feature a select set of show heifers. Later this fall look for our Made West Genetic Sale, featuring the potent genetics of DL Dakota Charm O1c Donor, dam of numerous champion steers from coast to coast, including the Grand Champion Steer at the 2021 Ohio State Fair and Reserve 3 Crossbred/4th Overall Steer at the 2021 Kentucky State Fair. Dear CJLA Friend, 2020 – 2021 have been rough years! Could anyone ever imagine our lives would be rocked by a pandemic that affected every single aspect of every person’s life in some way or another? We recognize the struggles and feel in our hearts for the challenges that were faced! We also believe it is most important to recognize the resilience and hope and fortitude that showed through in the darkest of times! Our CJLA family persevered and kept on going. They kept on setting goals and raising their project animals. They made the best of a very tough situation and we are proud of each and every one of our members! They entered, supported, and exhibited wherever an event was happening and we are so proud of each and every one of them! It is now time to celebrate those achievements and we really need your help! For 22 years the California Junior Livestock Association has been the cornerstone of the junior livestock scene in our state. 2021 is no different and we want to make sure our members receive the recognition they deserve! We are planning now for our Annual Year-end Award Ceremony where every member is celebrated and the top exhibitors in each division are awarded prizes for their achievements. In order to reach our goal of providing special awards to all our members, the CJLA relies completely on the generosity of those who share our belief in the future of our youth and the future of agriculture. CJLA members are the leaders and bright stars of tomorrow who use the skills they learn today in their future endeavors. Your sponsorship will help the CJLA give awards that can be used in our members’ future projects, education, and careers. Large or small, all contributions go directly back to our members and help to ensure the success of our award program. You can help us keep our vision alive through your support. Please read through the enclosed sponsor information. Several levels of support are offered and you can choose where you want your donation applied. To make a contribution to CJLA, please fill out and return the enclosed form or you may go to the CJLA website – www.cjlainfo.com - click on the “Donate” link and use our PayPal service. If you have any questions at all, please contact me directly at (408) 888-2503. The CJLA truly values your support, but more importantly, our junior members and their families appreciate it! We promise to put your contribution to good use. Thank you for your consideration of our request. Sincerely,

Heidi Beljean

Consistent Coverage. • Two-Step Process for black cattle creates a uniform, rich black appearance. • ProPaint Base Black provides even, matte coverage. • Finish with Maxx Black for a deep, rich color with a touch of shine. • Your family’s health is important to us – that’s why Weaver Livestock ProPaints never contain methylene chloride, a cancer-causing agent commonly found in other touch up paints.

CJLA NEWS & UPDATES •

The news this month is different than the usual! After much thought and consideration, Heidi has decided to step down from the CJLA and pass it on to others that will carry the vision on into the future. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was time. Along with dealing with health issues the past couple of years, Heidi’s priority needs to be on focusing on her health, her family, and her loved ones. CJLA was her vision that came to life in 2000. As she says, it has been a great ride full of memories she will treasure always! You can read more of her message in her editorial in this issue.

Be sure to check out their Facebook pages and websites for each event for their updates and entry information! Updates are on the CJLA website and Facebook also! Not gonna lie here – the past few years have been a struggle! Health issues, Covid, show results, time – have all affected the CJLA. But let us all remember the awesome organization it has been for our youth and help us wrap up 22 years with a bang! We need sponsors so we can give the awards our members deserve! PLEASE donate and spread the word to those you know for this final push for our CJLA members! All donations go directly to the member awards! Contact us with any questions about donating! You can also go to our website – www.cjlainfo.com and click on the “Donate” button to fill out an online form and pay there. Or you can call Heidi and talk to her – she can take your information over the phone or discuss what you would like to do. Please consider how you can help! We greatly appreciate your support!

Beginning with 2022, Nelson Hanson and Ashlee Anderson will be carrying on with the CJLA under their California Youth Livestock Association. Heidi and I are both excited to see their vision and what they have to offer going forward! We look forward to working with them in the next few months as the transition is made and will keep you informed with updates from our end as things are worked out. I’m sure they will be getting the word out with their plans as well! For this year, we will wrap up 2021 as planned. I know it’s late but I am working on the points and will get a report to everyone as quickly as I can. Heidi and I are working on the awards for the 2020 ceremony that will be held at the Harvest Moon Jackpot in Bakersfield in November. We are also planning to have an award ceremony for our 2021 members after the first of the year.

If you have questions, comments, thoughts, etc. about the upcoming changes to CJLA, please feel free to email, text, or call me! Phone or Text: 831-905-5665 Mary Ann Bush

Don’t forget about all the sanctioned shows that will complete our year. There are shows for all species – be sure to make your travel plans soon! •
