Vita Hair Volumizer

TM

Foaming Shampoo

Thicker, Fuller Hair The first livestock shampoo to scientifically produce hair volume! Vita Hair Volumizer™ Foaming Shampoo is formulated with a natural plant-based proprietary surfactant technology that creates an opposite acting polar electrical charge within each hair strand that actually pushes every hair follicle apart. This prevents the hair from sticking together, and actually springs it loose, making each hair follicle stand on end for a noticeable difference in hair volume and body. A true “game changer” in hair performance!

For fifteen years now now, on the second Saturday in June in western Oklahoma, the tent has been raised for the Cream of the Crop Female & Bull Sale. To date, this is the largest annual club calf producing female sale in the history of this business. This offering has sold more champion producing dams and has generated more cumulative dollars than any offering in the history of the club calf business. Once again, the deck is stacked, as the best of this program will be offered across the block on Saturday, June 11th.

FROM THE

EDITOR It’s that time of year – the final weeks of school are fast approaching, the county fair season has begun, and Junior Nationals and State Fairs are awaiting the competitive exhibitors who will soon be headed their way. The end of school signals summer fun, vacations, and no bookwork for a few months! After months of classes, studying, tests, and finals, everyone is excited for the sunny days ahead. Remember, summer is about 2 ½ months long. Plan wisely and make each day count. You may be on a school break but your livestock projects aren’t, so this is a good time to dial in your program so you are prepared for that end-point coming up in the near future. Some of you are in year-round sports programs or other activities, so make sure to coordinate with your family to fit everything in. Raising livestock is an expensive project so you want to be sure that as you near your fair date, you have done all you can to do to be your best!

P.O. Box 41430 • San Jose, CA 95160 (408) 888-2503 • Fax (408) 776-9811 Publisher & Managing Editor: Heidi Beljean — (408) 888-2503 Email: pacshow@earthlink.net Production Manager & Art Director: William Crump — (662) 305-5434 Email: pacificshowcase@gmail.com

For market animals, the fair is your payday. This is when you sell that animal you purchased and then invested more money into, in feed and supplies, plus countless hours in time. You have prepared your animal to be its best, so don’t neglect the important area of marketing. You should send out buyer letters and contact people and/or businesses you think might be interested in supporting your junior livestock auction. Be sure to tell them the story of your project, what you have learned, and what your future plans are, as well as how their support will help you achieve your goals. It is not your fair’s responsibility to make sure you have a buyer at the auction. So do your part to be sure you have a successful outcome.

As the school year ends, some of you will be graduating – from junior high and heading into high school, or from high school and heading off to college! Big stepping stones, but so exciting! So many new goals to set and conquer in your next educational adventures! Set yourself up for success by finding out what opportunities are available, by talking to teachers and counselors and advisors, and most importantly, by stretching your personal boundaries and trying new things – new classes, new clubs, new projects! You may be surprised at what becomes your new passion.

Reproductions or other use of this magazine in whole or part of the contents without written permission of the editor is prohibited.

As I write my editorial, most of the surrounding states have just concluded their state FFA conventions. New officers were elected, and winners selected in a huge variety of team and individual competitions. Those winners now look ahead to going on to the national level to compete against other state or regional winners for those coveted national titles. State Conventions expose their attendees to so many things: meeting new people, workshops, competitions, and being inspired by those who lead them or who have been successful in so many ways. FFA isn’t just about livestock, but if raising and showing is what you do, your experiences have made you a stronger competitor in all venues you pursue. Take that confidence in yourself, and the knowledge that you can succeed, and apply it to all areas of your life, and YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!

Pacific Showcase welcomes readers contributions. Articles of interest, show results, sale results, and calendar dates are welcome and will be printed on space available. To have articles or pictures returned, include a stamped, selfaddressed envelope. Send all submissions to address above. Pacific Showcase is published bimonthly. It is mailed first class and third class bulk mail at Morgan Hill, California. Postmaster: send address changes to Pacific Showcase, P.O. Box 41430, San Jose, CA 95160. Subscriptions: (Bulk mail - one year - $25; two years - $45.) (First class - one year - $35; two years $65.) For processing of new subscriptions - please allow 4 to 6 weeks. For address corrections, send current mailing label along with new address to Pacific Showcase.

In this issue, we honor the CJLA Winners of 2015! Our annual Award Banquet was held in February and it was a huge success! I want to thank all the sponsors for believing in the kids and this organization. It is because of the generosity of so many who care that we are able to give back to the members and reward them all for their hard work and their achievements. As with so many endeavors, it “takes a village,” and in this case, that is so true. Take some time to look through this feature section and read through the list of supporters, and check out the photos of all the winners. It’s pretty awesome!

Time to Plan Ahead! The July/August Issue is our

California State Fair Issue

Coming up in the next issue is our “Graduates Section.” This is always a highlight feature, so be sure to send in your graduate's picture along with a picture of them when they started showing. Details on information to send is in this issue – check out the ad!

Give us a call!

Just a reminder that if you move, please let us know your new address right away so you don’t miss an issue. We also send many e-blasts for events and advertisers. If we don’t have your email address and you would like to receive these notifications, contact us so we can add you to our list. And, as always, send us your news and hotshots for upcoming issues.

Pacific Showcase does something every year to honor these Seniors.

1– Just send their senior picture AND a picture when they first started showing. 2– Write their name, the town they're from, the name of the high school they're graduating from, the college they are attending, the major they've chosen, and the species they showed — on a piece of paper and send them in to: Pacific Showcase P.O. Box 41430, San Jose, CA 95160

Deadline to send pictures in is June 15th. We will be featuring these pictures in the July/August issue.

You can also send the photos and information by email to

pacificshowcase@gmail.com.

Also, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want the pictures back.

Please put "Graduating" in the subject line!

CJLA WHERE ARE THE POINTS?

NEWS & UPDATES! we can mail them to you also. We sent an email out regarding this but if you have questions, contact us and we can get you taken care of.

You can find the Points Update on our CJLA website – www. cjlainfo.com. All shows held through the end of March are included in the report.

Check out the attached Sanctioned Show List! There are still a lot of shows in the coming months all the way through the end of the year. Remember that your top eight shows count for year-end totals but the tie breakers for both division and showmanship are the number of shows you earned points at in that division. It often happens at the end of the year that placings change based on this tie-breaker rule! So keep on trucking and keep on showing!

We have also sent an email to all CJLA members with the Points List. If you are not on our CJLA email list and would like to receive our E-blasts, contact us and we will add you to our files. In this issue we are devoting the CJLA pages to our Award Banquet! February 13, 2016 was a fantastic evening of family and friends honoring our 2015 members for their hard work and achievements. Add in great food, exciting auctions, and unbelievable support, and it was truly a night to remember!

I think this is about all the news for now …… so go full speed ahead into the weeks and months ahead! Set new goals and work hard to achieve them! Be sure to enjoy the journey along the way! Stay safe, and be sure to thank your crew that helps you get it all done. And say Thanks to those awesome people who work so hard to put on those shows you attend!

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all our generous sponsors, donors, supporters, parents, families, and CJLA members for everything YOU do to make this organization and this banquet a success. Every year we say we can’t do it without you… and that is the truth! We are constantly reminded about how much YOU care about our youth and this junior livestock industry! It’s this enthusiasm that keeps CJLA going strong from year to year – and makes it “the” livestock group to be a part of. CJLA membership for 2016 has hit a record high number – with lots of first time members! That is truly inspiring!

CJLA Questions? 2016 Rule Book and Show Calendar is posted on the website. Emails can be sent to cjlainfo@yahoo.com or through the CJLA website: www.cjlainfo.com Heidi Beljean: 408-888-2503 or pacshow@earthlink.net (CJLA Info, Memberships, & Sponsorships)

Junior Leaders: Apply to Become the Angus Ambassador Submit an application by June 15 to be considered for the NJAA ambassador position.

Beef Improvement Federation Annual Research Symposium and Convention in Athens, Ga.; and

The National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) is beginning its search for the next Angus Ambassador. It’s an elite position that provides an opportunity for a one-year term as spokesperson for the NJAA’s nearly 6,000 members, and connects with cattle producers, consumers and industry professionals nationwide. Applications are available online and must be submitted by June 15.

Guiding Outstanding Angus Leaders (GOAL) Conference in Canada.

Additonal and existing travel may vary based on the selected ambassador’s location, schedule and availability. To be eligible for the Angus Ambassador competition, applicants must be Association members in good standing, between the ages 17-20 as of Jan. 1, who own purebred Angus cattle. They must submit a cover letter, résumé and two essay responses. Applications can be found online.

“As the Angus Ambassador, one junior member is given the opportunity to take his or her passion for Angus cattle to the next level by networking with other Angus producers and beef industry professionals, and by traveling to and attending a variety of engaging events over the course of the year,” says Jaclyn Clark, American Angus Association director of events and education.

Pohlman encourages all junior members to apply for the position: “If you’re on the fence about it, go ahead and apply. Definitely get your application together and submit it. It’ll be worth it in the long haul.”

Currently serving as the 2015-2016 Angus Ambassador is Will Pohlman of Prairie Grove, Ark. Pohlman is a junior at the University of Arkansas studying biochemistry and animal science. He will apply to medical school in the fall.

All applications must be postmarked by June 15 and sent to the Association’s Events and Education Department, 3201 Frederick Ave., Saint Joseph, MO 64506.

“It’s a really beneficial way to make new connections, travel to new places and push the limits of what a junior in the Angus Association can do,” Pohlman says. “It’s a great opportunity to make connections with older Angus breeders as you transition out of the junior program.”

Once the applications are reviewed, five finalists will be invited to the Association headquarters on July 21 to participate in the final round of competition, which includes an interview and formal presentation with a panel of judges. The new Angus Ambassador will be chosen at the conclusion of the day.

The chosen Angus Ambassador will travel to the following events:

For more information, please visit the NJAA website at www.angus.org/njaa.

American Angus Association Orientation in Saint Joseph, Mo.;

Angus Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.;

Certified Angus Beef® Building Blocks Seminar in Wooster, Ohio;

Cattle Industry Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn.;

About the National Junior Angus Association The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for more than 6,000 active members nationwide.
