Dear Pacific Ridge Community, It is my profound privilege to share the Pacific Ridge School 2025–2026 Annual Report with you. This publication celebrates our community’s collective generosity and stands as a testament to a powerful truth: at Pacific Ridge, we do not just educate students; we build lifelong connections. This truth feels especially close to my heart this year. As I completed my eighth year as a member of the Board of Trustees, and my first as Chair, I watched my youngest child graduate in June, joining her older brother in the ranks of proud PRS alumni. I have watched my own children thrive under our mission to prepare students for college and a purposeful life. In a world that can sometimes feel isolating, the unique bond of the PRS community is an anchor we share across generations. That community spirit drove us to remarkable achievements across our campus this past year: • Affirmation of Excellence: Following a rigorous review process, PRS received a maximum seven-year reaccreditation from the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS). The visiting committee of peer school leaders offered high praise, validating that Pacific Ridge operates at the highest tier of independent education. •P hilanthropic Leadership: Our generous community propelled the PRS Annual Fund past its $1.1 million goal, achieving $1,114,387. These vital resources keep tuition 4–5% lower, safeguarding the accessibility of a PRS education. Standing on the threshold of joining our alumni network, the Class of 2026 left their own indelible mark with a meaningful Legacy Gift of $66,269 to the General Endowment, providing sustainable, perpetual support for future Firebirds. • Championship Culture: Our student-athletes gave us endless reasons to celebrate, with four varsity teams—Boys Lacrosse, Boys Baseball, Boys Water Polo, and Girls Tennis—capturing league titles. To add to school history, our Varsity Boys Basketball and Varsity Girls Lacrosse teams both brought home thrilling CIF Division Championships! While we celebrate these milestones, the Board has spent this year looking toward the horizon. We recently completed a robust, forward-looking Strategic Plan designed to maximize the PRS student experience by investing deeply in our people, programs, and places. As we look ahead, our focus is on the power of shared experiences and the increasing need for community. We will begin exploring how to thoughtfully evolve our campus footprint—reimagining our outdoor athletic and practice facilities to better bring us together, and envisioning new, dedicated performance and gathering spaces to showcase our students. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a bright, bold future for Pacific Ridge School.

Warmly,

Kristin French Chair, Board of Trustees

LASTING LEGACY FOR PACIFIC RIDGE As the Class of 2026 celebrated graduation, families found a meaningful way to honor their students while investing in the future of Pacific Ridge School. Through the Class of 2026 Legacy Endowment Gift, 55 parents, grandparents, and loved ones came together to contribute more than $66,000 to the school's General Endowment—a lasting tribute to their graduating seniors and a powerful vote of confidence in generations of future Firebirds.

Leading this year's effort, the Pacelli Family made a generous leadership gift in honor of their son, Grayson '26, while reflecting a longstanding commitment to Pacific Ridge. As Steve Pacelli concludes five years of service on the Board of Trustees, the family's investment in the General Endowment embodies the thoughtful stewardship and long-term vision that have helped guide the school.

“ By growing the school's endowment, we chose to honor Grayson's experience and help ensure the long-term strength of Pacific Ridge School.” — The Pacelli Family (Grayson ’26) Unlike gifts to the Annual Fund, which provide immediate support for the people and programs that enrich the student experience each year, gifts to the General Endowment are invested to create a permanent source of revenue. As the endowment grows, it will help protect the school against economic uncertainty, support long-term financial sustainability, and preserve access to a Pacific Ridge education for future students.

Established in 2021, the General Endowment has grown to approximately $8.5 million. Continuing to grow the General Endowment will provide an important foundation for the future.

GLOBAL ADVENTURE 25-26

8TH GRADE IN WASHINGTON, D.C. Eighth graders explored their roles as citizens, community members, and activists during this six-day visit to our nation's capital. Through visits to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Holocaust Museum, and the National Museum of the American Indian, students examined the many stories that shape the American experience. Tours of the Capitol Building, the FDR, MLK, and Lincoln memorials, and meetings with congressional leaders highlighted how individuals have worked to advance the nation's founding ideals. At the Phillips Collection, the National Portrait Gallery, and among Washington, D.C.'s public murals, students explored art as a form of self-expression and activism before performing their own group poetry at the Dupont Underground Art Hall. Together, these experiences deepened their understanding of democracy and their role in shaping its future.

10TH GRADERS IN COSTA RICA The 10th grade traveled to Costa Rica for an immersive experience centered on biodiversity, culture, service, and community. From Monteverde’s cloud forest to La Fortuna’s lush landscapes, students explored tropical ecosystems while learning about conservation, sustainability, and the connections between people and place. They studied local birds and insects, hiked through rainforest trails, collected water-quality samples in the Río Negro, and visited an animal sanctuary to learn about wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

Ninth graders traveled through the red rock landscapes of Sedona and the Grand Canyon region, where they experienced the beauty, challenge, and community-building spirit of the desert Southwest. Students began their adventure by exploring Sedona’s shops, historic sites, and striking sandstone backdrop before continuing to the Grand Canyon, where they learned about the region’s geology, fossils, and natural history while taking in sweeping canyon views.

Cultural exchange was woven throughout the trip. Through homestays, shared meals, and visits to local schools, students built relationships with Costa Rican families and children while leading activities in language, arts and crafts, and games. Along the way, they toured coffee, cacao, and sugarcane farms, made tortillas and chocolate, played soccer with local community members, and experienced Costa Rican hospitality firsthand. Adventure highlights included whitewater rafting, ziplining, swimming beneath waterfalls, and relaxing in hot springs. Through service, exploration, and connection, students deepened their global awareness and appreciation for Costa Rica’s vibrant communities and natural beauty.

Throughout the trip, students practiced leadership, teamwork, and resilience while camping and navigating the rhythms of outdoor living. They hiked along the rim of the Grand Canyon, explored nearby creeks, played group games, cooked together, and helped with daily campsite responsibilities. Evenings brought shared meals, card games, music, and time to connect as a class. From sunrise views and red rock trails to campfire conversations and final goodbyes, the experience encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and strengthen friendships as they closed out their ninth grade year together.

JAPAN From the temple town of Minobu to the historic heart of Kyoto, PRS students immersed themselves in Japan’s rich cultural traditions, history, and daily life through meaningful hands-on experiences and local connections. Students participated in a traditional Buddhist temple service, stayed in a ryokan, and learned about Japanese customs while living alongside local communities. Through cultural exchange activities with Japanese students, they practiced calligraphy, created origami, and built friendships that offered valuable cross-cultural perspectives. Students explored some of Japan’s most significant cultural landmarks, including Nijo Castle, the Kyoto Imperial Palace grounds, and historic temples and shrines throughout the region. They also engaged with local residents through cooking experiences, learning to prepare sushi and traditional Japanese dishes while gaining insight into regional food traditions. Along the way, students traveled aboard the Shinkansen, explored scenic mountain villages and gardens, and experienced both the historic and modern sides of Japan. Through these shared experiences, students developed a deeper understanding of Japanese culture while building confidence, independence, and global awareness.

ICELAND From towering waterfalls and massive glaciers to geothermal lagoons and volcanic landscapes, PRS students experienced Iceland’s unique natural environment through hands-on exploration and scientific inquiry. Traveling across the country’s rugged southern coast and through the Golden Circle region, students hiked near glaciers, visited black sand beaches, explored lava fields, and witnessed the power of Iceland’s waterfalls, geysers, and geothermal activity firsthand. Students learned about Iceland’s commitment to renewable energy through visits to geothermal and hydroelectric power facilities, gaining insight into sustainable energy systems and environmental stewardship. They also explored Reykjavik with local guides, learned about Icelandic history and culture, met community members, and sampled traditional Icelandic foods.

STUDENT REFLECTION: We had the opportunity to complete some community service for the local school. I still have blisters from the experience! But I think it did a good job of showing us that things we take for granted, like gutters for rain water are not a guarantee but a privilege to have. I also got to learn about the process of sugar making. From the crushing of the sugarcane into liquid and then watching it be turned into juice and then heated and cooled. The taste of the hardened sugar was also unlike any other sugar I had eaten before, it tasted more natural. Getting to see a different culture and way of life with a group of friends is just a life-changing experience for everyone.

Jamie A. ‘28

FACULTY REFLECTION: Itadakimasu (いただきます) is a polite Japanese phrase said before eating. Literally meaning "I humbly receive," it is used to express gratitude to the farmers, the chef, the animals, the plants, the soil, and the lives that made the meal possible. I think this highlights Japanese reverence for community and sources of life quite beautifully.

Being the mother and mother-in-law of PRS founding teachers, I have seen how Pacific Ridge School has evolved over the past 20 years and established itself as a truly wonderful school. Now that my grandchildren attend PRS, I have seen them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The school’s commitment to academic excellence, the nurturing of students to achieve their full potential, global travel opportunities, and participation in service are qualities that make PRS such a special place. I am very proud to support this amazing community and academic institution.

I have made an effort to contribute to the Annual Fund for the last five years because I see what PRS is—and can be—to families and the greater community! I get as much as I put into this community and believe that if my contribution pushes the needle even a bit further, I am glad to do it!
