12,760 Clients receiving emergency utility payment assistance

$5,622,863 In emergency utility payments

Did you know that utility costs make up roughly 6.6% of household expenses? This puts them on par with average health care costs. And because utility rates are the same for all consumers, lower-income households’ utility costs account for a larger share of their incomes – approximately 20% of net income among low-income households compared to 3% for the average US household.

As a result of rising unemployment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many Angelenos have been faced with the tough decision to either pay for rent, food or utilities. PACE Energy, through our administration of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), has reduced this burden for more than 12,700 households by providing $5.6 million in emergency utility payments this past year.

1,793 Clients served through the Weatherization Program

In total, PACE Energy served nearly 20,000 clients through emergency utility payments, conservation education, and home weatherization services consisting of minor home repairs and the distribution of free, energy-efficient appliances. We work in close partnership with state and federal government and local utilities - including the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, SoCal Gas, and Edison - to reduce energy costs and alleviate the heavy energy burden of low-income households.

The Weatherization Assistance Program increases the energy efficiency of dwellings occupied by low-income residents, thereby reducing their energy costs, while improving their health and safety.

We are very thankful for PACE’s help and for our new refrigerator! As full time students on a fixed income, we really needed this program and you were there for us.
