BUILDING WOMEN IN THE TRADES: Tracy Parker Earns NABTU Tradeswoman Heroes Award

Congratulations to Journeyworker Tracy Parker for being nominated – and winning – the North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) Tradeswoman Heroes award for the month of December. Tracy is a 17-year veteran of Tulsa, OK Local 107, and was first hired by P1 as a labor foreman in 2014. She is currently working on a P1 Construction project in Pryor, OK, which marks her fifth project with P1. Throughout her trades career, Tracy has held the positions of auditor, steward, foreman, and general foreman. According to the NABTU website, nominees for the award must be in good standing with their local union and display outstanding leadership on - and off - the job site. Tracy's nomination form reads: “Tracy has been an important part of our local WANTT-Women Accessing Non Traditional Trades program. She went on camera for a local news station to help recruit our first class, and then she came and spoke to the class about what to expect. She tries to help promote working hard and standing up for each other.” “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award – the P1 Pryor team couldn’t be more proud,” P1 Operations Manager Casey Walsh said. P1 POP-UP STORE HELPS HARVESTERS P1 associates raised $1,250 in charitable dollars through purchases from the recent Fall/Winter pop-up store. The amount was matched by P1, for a total of $2,500 given to Harvesters Community Food Network.  Each pop-up store features a unique design and variety of shirt colors and styles. This store’s design was created by Marketing Proposal Specialist (and fine artist) Beth Martens.

TOPEKA DECOR CREATES "ESPRIT DE CORPS"

When you walk into the Topeka office, you are greeted with an array of fun decorations, and not just at Christmas.

Project Coordinator Rebecca Venable and the other operations associates started decorating the office for monthly technician luncheons when they were still on South Kansas Avenue.

When they did finally get set up in the new building, the operations team started decorating for all the holidays and it just evolved into a full-time tradition, including a summer theme.

Since moving to the new location on Forbes Ave., decorating the office has evolved into a year-round event.

“It’s upbeat and breaks up some of the silos that can form with a cube farm,” Will said. “The decorations lighten it up, which makes everyone feel more at ease.”

According to Service Project Sales Manager Will Jones, the process of moving to the new building kept Topeka office personnel apart, and everyone felt the rift. “We spent two days emptying the old building and trying to keep business going at the same time. Then everyone starting working from home while the new building was being renovated," Will said. "We were
