E D I T O R I A L Νιώθουμε σαν να είμαστε σε μια αέναη αναζήτηση του καινούργιου. Συναντούμε όμορφους ανθρώπους, ανακαλύπτουμε το ταλέντο και την προσωπικότητά τους. Είμαστε περίεργοι, και με τις δύο έννοιες, και δεν έχουμε κανένα πρόβλημα με αυτό. SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES

eek-a-boo, τραγούδησαν οι Siouxsie and the Banshees το 1988 θέλοντας μέσα από τον σαρκασμό και την αμφισημία των στίχων να σχολιάσουν την αντικειμενοποίηση των γυναικών και το «κρυφτό» που πολύ συχνά αναγκαζόμαστε να παίξουμε, προκειμένου να μην πληγωθούμε.

“Where did you get those eyes?” αναρωτιέται η Siouxsie εννοώντας όχι τα μάτια ως μέρος του σώματος, αλλά ως βλέμμα που πληγώνει, σχολιάζει και αντιμετωπίζει τις γυναίκες σαν «ένα κομμάτι κρέας έτοιμο προς κατανάλωση». Μπορεί το τραγούδι να ακούγεται χαρούμενο και χορευτικό, η φωνή της Siouxsie, όμως, είναι επιθετική και επισημαίνει όλες τις περίεργες καταστάσεις που αφορούν το σεξ και την πορνεία. Οι πρώτοι στίχοι του τραγουδιού περιγράφουν την αρχή μίας πορνογραφικής πράξης που ενώ η γυναίκα ξέρει πώς να διαχειριστεί, κρύβει από πίσω όλο τον πόνο και την ταπείνωση που της προκαλεί. Οι στίχοι “Shapeless and slumped in bath chairs / furtive eyes peep out of holes" σχολιάζουν την ηδονοβλεπτική ματιά που αντιμετωπίζουν οι γυναίκες από τους άντρες ενώ η χειραφέτηση που επιθυμούν δεν έρχεται τελικά ποτέ αφού “She'll do what you want her to”. Πολύ εύστοχα, η Siouxsie χρωματίζει με φεμινιστικό χαρακτήρα ένα dance anthem και όπως είχε πει και η ίδια: «Εμπνεύστηκα από τον τρόπο που οι γυναίκες απεικονίζονται στα media και το τραγούδι αποτελεί μία αντίδραση στις κομφορμιστικές εικόνες που παραλληλίζουν τις γυναίκες με αντικείμενα». Το τραγούδι κατάφερε να γίνει ένα από τα πιο χαρακτηριστικά κομμάτια του συγκροτήματος και οι κριτικοί το συμπεριέλαβαν και στη λίστα "The 100 Greatest Alternative Singles of the '80s", λόγω της πρωτότυπης μουσικής και των ευρηματικών φωνητικών του. Στην Ελλάδα, το κομμάτι έγινε αμέσως ύμνος και παιζόταν συνέχεια στα ραδιόφωνα ενώ η θρυλική εκπομπή της ΕΡΤ, «Μουσικόραμα», πρόβαλλε σχεδόν κάθε μέρα το videoclip του. Εκτός από τη μουσική, στην οποία το συγκρότημα Siouxsie and the Banshees θεωρείται ο δημιουργός του post-punk είδους, η Siouxsie Sioux ως παρουσία επηρέασε και τον χώρο της μόδας. Το punk rock στιλ της αποτελούνταν από ανδρόγυνα στοιχεία και έντονες αντιθέσεις ενώ στο make-up τόνιζε πολύ τα μάτια της με έντονες σκιές και eyeliner δίνοντας δραματικό τόνο στην εμφάνισή της και πολύ γρήγορα η αισθητική της ενέπνευσε πολλές γυναίκες παγκοσμίως. Επηρέασε την εξέλιξη της υποκουλτούρας “Batcavers”, η οποία πήρε το όνομά της από τους θαμώνες του goth “Batcave” club του Λονδίνου, και έμεινε στην ιστορία για το αιγυπτιακό μακιγιάζ της και τα ηλεκτρισμένα μαλλιά. Αν και έχουν περάσει περίπου 30 χρόνια, το "Peek-a-boo" δείχνει επίκαιρο μέχρι και σήμερα. Μπορεί να έχουν γίνει αρκετοί αγώνες ανεξαρτητοποίησης και αλλαγής της εικόνας της γυναίκας, τα social media όμως φαίνεται να διαιωνίζουν πρότυπα και εικόνες ως αυταπόδεικτες αλήθειες. Ακούγοντας το τραγούδι σκέφτηκα: «Μα καλά, ποιος χρειάζεται το κρυφτό εν έτει 2019;» Μετά η ερώτηση έγινε: «Ποιος δεν χρειάζεται το κρυφτό εν έτει 2019;»

iouxsie and The Banshees were singing “Peek-a-boo” in 1988 and through its lyrics’ sarcasm and ambivalence they wanted to comment on the objectification of women and the “Peek-a-boo” they are forced to play while trying to avoid getting hurt.

“Where did you get those eyes” Siouxsie asks, not referring to the eyes as part of the body but rather the hurtful stares that women are forced to deal with and how they are treated like “a piece of meat ready to be purchased”. Although the melody makes us believe that it is a fun dance song, Siouxsie’s voice remains aggressive as she numbers all the shady and dangerous situations concerning sex and prostitution. The first lyrics of the song paint the picture of a woman at the beginning of a porn act and, while she seems in perfect control of the situation, she hides all the pain and humiliation it inflicts on her. The lyrics “Shapeless and slumped in bath chairs / furtive eyes peep out of holes” comment on the voyeuristic looks that women deal with every day and how the emancipation they are longing for is never going to come as “She’ll do what you want her to”. Siouxsie successfully incorporates feminist messages in this dance anthem and as she has said “I was inspired by how women are portrayed through the media. This song is reacting to all these conventional images that parallelize women with objects”.

This song became one of the band’s most popular and critics included it in “The 10 Greatest Alternative Singles of the ’80s” because of its original melody and imaginative vocals. The song became a dance anthem in Greece and a radio favourite as well.

In addition, ERT’s iconic show "Moussikorama" broadcasted the song’s video clip every day.

Apart from its music, for which the band Siouxsie and the Banshees is considered to be the one that initiated the postfunk genre, Siouxsie Sioux influenced the fashion world with her style. Her post-funk rock style entailed androgynous elements and strong contradictions and concerning her make-up, she chose bold eye looks using pigmented eyeshadows and eyeliner, creating a dramatic look and very soon her aesthetic inspired many women all over the world. She influenced the evolution of the “Batcavers” subculture, which was named after the Goth regulars at the “Batcave” club in London. She is still remembered for her Egyptian make-up and her frizzy hair.

Even though 30 years have passed since then, “Peek -a-boo” is still relevant today. Centuries may have passed of women trying to establish their independence and change how they are viewed, but social media seem to perpetuate unattainable standards and images for women. Listening to the song, I thought to myself “Is there someone that still needs to play “Peek-a-boo” in 2019?” and after a while the question became “Is there anyone that doesn’t still need to play “Peek-a-boo” in 2019?” siouxsieandthebanshees.co.uk

αλοκαίρι προ των πυλών και όλοι σκεφτόμαστε τα μουσικά φεστιβάλ που θα κάνουν τις νύχτες μας πιο όμορφες και αναμφίβολα πιο χορευτικές. Παρέα με τη νέα συλλογή PUMA RS Tracks ρωτήσαμε τέσσερις φίλους του ΟΖΟΝ για όλα αυτά τα events που έρχονται να μας ξεσηκώσουν τους προσεχείς μήνες αλλά και για το τι σχεδιάζουν οι ίδιοι.

Τρεις djs και μια tattoo artist, όλοι τους δημιουργικοί και αισιόδοξοι, ξεχωρίζουν για το πηγαίο ταλέντο τους. Το ραντεβού δόθηκε στο six d.o.g.s σε μια ανοιξιάτικη ημέρα, από αυτές που αγαπάμε στην Αθήνα. Όλοι φόρεσαν τα νέα, χαρακτηριστικά PUMA sneakers της συλλογής RS και φωτογραφήθηκαν με την καλύτερή τους διάθεση. Άλλωστε, η PUMA μας έχει συνηθίσει όλο αυτό το διάστημα σε δημιουργίες τεχνολογικά προηγμένες και πρωτοποριακές, πόσο μάλιστα σε αυτή τη νέα σειρά που έχει ρίζες από τα 80’s και δείχνει στο σήμερα κομμάτι της ιστορίας της. Το αισθητικό αποτέλεσμα εγγυημένο, η κουβέντα ουσιαστική και το βλέμμα πραγματικά "μπροστά".

CELEBRATING MUSIC CULTURE & FESTIVALS WITH PUMA RS

T

he summer is almost here and we are all thinking about music festivals that will make our nights more beautiful and full of dancing. Together with the new PUMA RS collection, we asked four OZON friends for all these upcoming events that are about to uplift us, during the following months and for their own plans as well.

Three Djs and one tattoo artist, each of them full of creativity and optimism, have gained recognition because of their talent.

On a spring day, one of those we really love in Athens, we met at six d.o.g.s. Everyone tried the distinctive PUMA sneakers from the RS collection and they were photographed in a great mood. Besides, for a while now PUMA has been introducing us to technologically advanced and innovative creations, especially with the new line, which is deeply influenced by the 80’s but is also carrying contemporary elements. The aesthetic result was guaranteed and the discussions meaningful as they were gazing into the future.

Renée, κατά κόσμον Ειρήνη Παναγιωτοπούλου, σπούδαζε αρχιτεκτονικό σχέδιο, μέχρι που, μετά από παρότρυνση του αδερφού της, αποφάσισε να ασχοληθεί με την τέχνη των tattoo. Ήταν μια επιλογή που τελικά της άλλαξε τη ζωή, αφού συνεργάστηκε με διάφορα στούντιο σε Ελλάδα και εξωτερικό και ξεχώρισε για το προσωπικό της στιλ, ένα συνονθύλευμα γεωμετρίας με επιρροές αρχιτεκτονικής. Στο Sake Tattoo βρέθηκε τυχαία, όπου επαναπροσδιόρισε όλα όσα ήξερε, εμπλούτισε την τεχνική της και βρήκε θέση σε ένα από τα καλύτερα στούντιο της Αθήνας. Τον Ιούλιο θα την πετύχεις στο Βερολίνο και αν της μιλήσεις, θα σου πει πόσο πολύ έχει εξελιχθεί η Ελλάδα στον τομέα του tattoo, πόσα ταλέντα έχουν ανθίσει και πόσο ανυπομονεί για τη συμμετοχή της στο International Brussels Tattoo Convention τον Νοέμβριο στις Βρυξέλλες. Τον επόμενο μήνα θα συμμετέχει μαζί με το Sake Tattoo στο Athens International Tattoo Convention στο Κλειστό Γήπεδο Tae Kwon Do και το καλοκαίρι θέλει να συνδυάσει διακοπές με δουλειά. Aν έπρεπε οι καλοκαιρινές αναμνήσεις να έχουν ένα sοundtrack, θα ήταν οπωσδήποτε ένα τραγούδι των Apparat, της νέας της μουσικής εμμονής!

RENEE SAKE TATTOO

R

enée, aka Eirini Panagiotopoulou, had been studying architectural design when, after being encouraged by her brother, she decided to work as a tattoo artist. It was a decision that ended up changing her life. She collaborated with various studios in Greece and abroad and gained recognition for her unique style which is a medley of geometry influenced by architecture.

She found herself at Sake Tattoo and it was the place that helped her redefine everything she knew, enrich her technique and find a place at one of the best tattoo studios in Athens.

During the month of July, you will find her in Berlin and if you talk to her, she’ll tell you about the big development concerning tattoos that she has witnessed in Greece, how many new talents have blossomed and how she can’t wait to participate in the International Brussels Tattoo Convention during November in Brussels.

Next month, she is going to participate, together with Sake Tattoo, in the Athens International Tattoo Convention at Tae Kwon Do Stadium, while her summer is going to be dedicated to holidays and working. If her summer memories had to be accompanied by one soundtrack, it would definitely be an Apparat song, her new music obsession!

Ο CJ Jeff φωτογραφήθηκε φορώντας τα αγαπημένα του PUMA RS-X Tracks, sneakers που σχεδιάστηκαν για όλους αυτούς που αγαπούν τα μουσικά φεστιβάλ.

DJ και μουσικός παραγωγός Cj Jeff έχει ταυτίσει το όνομά του με το nightlife της Αθήνας και μετά από σχεδόν μία 20ετία στα decks της Ελλάδας και του εξωτερικού επάξια, διεκδικεί μία θέση ανάμεσα στους κορυφαίους Έλληνες DJ. H Rhythmetic Records, το «δισκογραφικό» του παιδί, τον κάνει ιδιαίτερα χαρούμενο καθώς καταφέρνει να διατηρεί ακόμη τον ρομαντισμό της, στοιχείο που της δίνει ξεχωριστή ταυτότητα. Τα καλοκαιρινά σχέδια του Cj Jeff περιλαμβάνουν ταξίδια και φυσικά μουσική. Πρώτος του σταθμός θα είναι το Ejekt Festival και η συναυλία των Cure αλλά και το Sonar Athens στο οποίο ανυπομονεί να παρακολουθήσει τον Paul Kalkbrenner, καλλιτέχνη που θαυμάζει ιδιαίτερα και με τον οποίο έχει συνεργαστεί εκτός Ελλάδας. Στα μελλοντικά του σχέδια περιλαμβάνεται η συνεργασία του με τον Andrew Meller ενώ αναμένεται να κυκλοφορήσει και ένας δίσκος του με τη Circus, μία από τις πιο αξιόλογες δισκογραφικές στον χώρο της tech-house μουσικής.

J and music producer Cj Jeff has managed to identify his name with Athens’s nightlife and after almost 20 years at the decks both in Greece and abroad, he deservingly holds a spot between the top Greek DJs. Except for his work as a DJ, Cj Jeff is the CEO of the record label, Rhythmetic Records. Rhythmetic Records is a place where Cj Jeff feels free to create and express himself. He strongly believes that his record label has held on to its romantic character and that has played a big role in its unique identity. His summer plans include travelling and, of course, music. Eject Festival and The Cure concert are going to be his first stop and also Sonar Athens, where he can’t wait to watch Paul Kalkbrenner perform, as he is an artist Cj Jeff has admired for years and they had the opportunity to collaborate abroad in the past.

Concerning his future plans, he is collaborating with Andrew Meller and releasing a record, on which he has worked with Circus, one of the most distinguished record labels in the tech-house world.

Όλγα Κουκλάκη ξεκίνησε να παίζει πιάνο από μικρή ηλικία και κάπως έτσι αγάπησε τη μουσική. Η γνωριμία της με την ηλεκτρονική έγινε όταν ξεκίνησε να παίζει ως Dj σε club της Αθήνας και έκτοτε, έχοντας πραγματοποιήσει πολλές εμφανίσεις σε Ελλάδα και εξωτερικό, κατάφερε να γίνει ένα από τα πιο δυνατά γυναικεία ονόματα στον χώρο της ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής. Για εκείνη, η Ελλάδα έχει δείξει μεγάλη εξέλιξη στη διοργάνωση των φεστιβάλ, αν και το ελληνικό κοινό είναι ακόμη συγκρατημένο ως προς την εξερεύνηση της πειραματικής ανερχόμενης μουσικής σκηνής. Λατρεύει τον Max Cooper, τον οποίο είχε την ευκαιρία να ακούσει live στην Αγγλικανική Εκκλησία, ανυπομονεί να ακούσει τον Kölsch και τον Jon Hopkins που θα βρεθούν τον Οκτώβριο στο Αθηναϊκό SONAR, ενώ μία από τις μεγαλύτερες επιθυμίες της είναι να παρακολουθήσει το Amsterdam Dance Festival (ADE). Αυτή την περίοδο ετοιμάζει συνεργασία με τον Kid Loco στη Γαλλία αλλά και την κυκλοφορία της προσωπικής της δουλειάς από το label Get Physical της Γερμανίας. OLGA KOUKLAKI

O

lga Kouklaki started playing the piano from a very young age and that is how she fell in love with music. Her introduction to electronic music began when she started working as a Dj at clubs in Athens. Since then, having performed at many clubs, both in Greece and abroad, she became one of the most well-known female names of the electronic music scene.

She believes that Greece has shown huge development concerning the organization of festivals, even though the Greek audience seems reluctant to explore the experimental up-andcoming music scene. She loves Max Cooper, whom she had the opportunity to enjoy live at the Anglican Church, she can't wait to see Kölsch and Jon Hopkins perform live at Sonar Athens in October and she wishes to be able to attend the Amsterdam Dance Festival (ADE). At the time, she is working with Kid Loco in France and also getting ready for the release of her personal record by the label Get Physical in Germany. She has recently concluded her first album, consisting of unreleased songs that are exclusively distributed by Brandcamp and if summer was described by just one song, for her it would be one of her own, the "Riddle".

ια τον ClubKid, κατά κόσμον Μάριο, η τελευταία δεκαετία υπήρξε κομβικό σημείο πολλών αλλαγών στην Ελλάδα, γεγονός που δεν άφησε ανεπηρέαστη και τη μουσική. Όπως υποστηρίζει, το clubbing και τα φεστιβάλ δέχτηκαν πλήγμα, αφού σχεδόν εξαφανίστηκαν από τον χάρτη της ελληνικής διασκέδασης, εντούτοις βρίσκει ενθαρρυντικό το ότι νέα δρώμενα κάνουν κάποια δειλά βήματα στη μουσική σκηνή της χώρας. Δύο από αυτά είναι το ADD και το Plissken, φεστιβάλ που σκοπεύει να παρακολουθήσει φέτος ενώ ανυπομονεί να συμμετάσχει στο Yupiyaya, το οποίο διοργανώνεται στη Δονούσα, ένα φεστιβάλ που συνδυάζει house, disco και freestyle ήχους σε ένα ειδυλλιακό σκηνικό πάνω στη θάλασσα. Στα άμεσα σχέδια του Μάριου είναι το λανσάρισμα του καινούργιου του πάρτι με τίτλο SLAM!, ένα event με underground, βερολινέζικη αισθητική που θα λαμβάνει χώρα στο six d.o.g.s. ενώ μέσα από το Danceteria, σειρά πάρτι που λειτουργεί υπό τη διεύθυνσή του για περισσότερα από έξι χρόνια, θα παρουσιάσει στις 10 Μαίου στο υπόγειο του Crust την Ika Duchna από το Βερολίνο. Το καλοκαίρι θα βρει τον Μάριο στα decks των Crust, Spinster, Cantina Social και Mosaiko αλλά και αρκετών άλλων εκτός Αθηνών μπαρ, πάντα με τον «ύμνο» Shockzoid από τον Krystal Klear, κομμάτι που αποτελεί για εκείνον το απόλυτο track του καλοκαιριού.

or ClubKid, as known as Mario, the last decade has been the turning point that has evoked many changes in Greece, and consequently music. As he says, clubbing and festivals have borne the brunt since they practically disappeared from the Greek entertainment scene. Hence, he observes that it is encouraging that new happenings and events are taking a few timid steps towards the country’s music scene.

Two of these happenings are the ADD and Plissken Festivals, which he plans to attend this year, while he is impatiently waiting to participate in Yupiyaya, a festival in Donousa. It is a festival that combines house, disco and freestyle sounds with a view of the idyllic scenery and sea.

His immediate plans include the launch of his new party, titled SLAM!, an event with underground Berlinian aesthetic that will take place at six d.o.g.s, while through Danceteria, a party series that he has managed for more than six years, he will introduce Ika Duchna from Berlin on 10th May at the Crust underground space.

He will continue his performances at Crust, Spinster, Cantina Social and Mosaiko and we will have the chance to enjoy his music in other parts of Greece as well, always accompanied by Shockzoid tune by Krystal Klear, a track that he considers the ultimate summer hit.

The “first lesson” starts right away: History! Skateboard legend, Tony Alva, is waiting for us in the classroom to teach the history of skateboard and tell us about his experience as the new kid in California.

Με μικροσκόπια και πειράματα μας εξηγούν την ComfyCush τεχνολογία και το πώς αυτή εφαρμόστηκε στα νέα Εra για τη δική μας άνεση που ,όμως δεν στερείται στιλ. Μια ώρα αργότερα το «σχολείο» είχε μεταμορφωθεί στο πιο cool party! Μια μαθητική μπάντα ξεκινά τη μουσική και μετά από λίγο ο Lil Wayne εμφανίζεται στη σκηνή του ComfyCush High School δημιουργώντας το πιο διασκεδαστικό party ever! Μετά το μεγάλο πάρτι, η Day #3, και τελευταία του ταξιδιού μας, μας επιφύλασσε βόλτα στο Williamsburg, ζεστό καφέ στο Toby’s Estate και ατελείωτο Vans shopping στο The General της Vans, ένα μικρό φιλόξενο διαμάντι στο κέντρο του Brooklyn από το οποίο δεν θέλαμε να φύγουμε! Ακολούθησε το αποχαιρετιστήριο δείπνο τoυ ComfyCush Vans Event, σε ένα αρκετά εντυπωσιακό restaurant με σκανδιναβική κουζίνα, το Νοrman. Κάπως έτσι τελείωσε και το ταξίδι μας στη Νέα Υόρκη παρέα με τα νέα Vans Era ComfyCush. Σίγουρα ήταν μια εμπειρία που θα θυμόμαστε για καιρό ακόμα. Μέχρι τότε, Κeep it Comfy!

uddenly, the bell rang to remind us that there is another lesson waiting for us: Physics! With microscopes and scientific experiments we learn about the ComfyCush technology and how it was introduced to the new Era sneakers having as the sole purpose buyers’ comfort, without losing their stylish character. After one hour, the “school” was transformed into the coolest party of the city! A school band started playing music at ComfyCush High School stage and then Lil Wayne followed accompanying with his music the most epic party ever!

After the huge party, Day #3, which was the last day of our trip, had a lot in store for us. Strolling around Williamsburg, hot coffee at Toby’s Estate and endless Vans shopping at The General by Vans, a small cozy gem, located in the centre of Brooklyn, where we wanted to stay forever! A goodbye dinner followed, organized by the ComfyCush Vans Event, at a spectacular restaurant, called Norman that specialized in Scandinavian cuisine. That was how our trip in New York with Vans Era ComfyCush concluded. It was an experience that we aren’t going to forget any time soon. Until then, Keep it Comfy!

PARIS FASHION WEEK FW19/20 A NOSTALGIC KIND OF WEEK Αν και η μόδα από τότε που υπάρχει στη μορφή που την ξέρουμε, βρίσκεται σε ένα διαρκή διάλογο με το παρελθόν, η φετινή Εβδομάδα Μόδας στο Παρίσι για τον χειμώνα του ’19 αποδείχθηκε το αποκορύφωμα της νοσταλγικής διάθεσης. Με επίκεντρο τον πρόσφατο χαμό του Κάιζερ της μόδας, Karl Lagerfeld, το κλίμα στο -παραδόξως- ηλιόλουστο Παρίσι ήταν μελαγχολικό και ο χρόνος έμοιαζε να είχε σταματήσει.

Fashion as we know it today is closely related with the past but this year’s Paris Fashion Week Winter 2019 can only be characterized as the peak of nostalgia.

It was centered around the recent loss of the Kaiser of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld, and the atmosphere was filled with melancholy as time seemed to stop in an unexpectedly sunny Paris.

ι περισσότεροι μεγάλοι οίκοι έκαναν αναδρομή στα αρχεία τους, όταν άλλοι βάσισαν τις συλλογές τους σε παλαιότερες δεκαετίες. Χαμηλοί τόνοι, λιγότερες influencers, γιατί η Fashion Week συνέπεσε με την απονομή των Όσκαρ στο Λος Άντζελες, και μια διακριτική νοσταλγία σε όλα. Από τις προσκλήσεις μέχρι τα ίδια τα shows. Η Εβδομάδα Μόδας ξεκίνησε με τον σχεδιαστή συνώνυμο της μεσογειακής laid back θηλυκότητας, τον Jacquemus, ο οποίος εμπνεύστηκε από ένα ζεστό καλοκαιρινό απόγευμα σε μια πόλη της νότιας Γαλλίας. Και αυτό δημιούργησε! Ένα μικρό χωριό με 32 (!) παστέλ σπίτια και καταστήματα, με τα μοντέλα να περπατούν ανάμεσα σε απλωμένες μπουγάδες και ανθισμένες γλάστρες. Από τη συλλογή του, ονόματι La Collectionneuse, δεν έλειπαν τα απόλυτα χρώματα του χειμώνα, τα neon φούξια και πορτοκαλί, τα oversized κοστούμια, τα φορέματα με cut-outs και οι πάντα υπερβολικά μικρές ή υπερβολικά μεγάλες τσάντες - trademark του σχεδιαστή. Σε ρυθμούς athleisure και υμνώντας δυναμικές γυναίκεςσύμβολα, όπως οι Mae West και Mia Hamm, o εναλλακτικός παριζιάνικος οίκος Koché παρουσίασε σε συνεργασία με τη Nike τη νέα του συλλογή στο γήπεδο μπάσκετ του Bercy. Εκτός από τη συλλογή με τα patchwork από γυναικείες ποδοσφαιρικές εμφανίσεις και τα εντυπωσιακά καπέλα από φτερά, αυτό που ξεχώρισε ήταν η ανθρωποκεντρική παρουσίαση. Κάθε φορά που ένα μοντέλο έβγαινε στον «αγωνιστικό χώρο», το όνομά του εμφανιζόταν στον φωτεινό πίνακα του γηπέδου, προσπαθώντας έτσι να μας συστήσουν τα μοντέλα, βλέποντάς τα σαν κάτι περισσότερο από «κούκλες βιτρίνας που περπατούν».

ost of the big fashion houses based their collections on previous ones as others were influenced by past decades. Fashion Week kept a low profile with fewer well-known influencers attending as it was held at the same time with the Oscars in Los Angeles and everything flowed in a light nostalgic tone; from the invitations to the actual shows.

Fashion Week made its start with Jacquemus, the designer that represents a Mediterranean laid back feminine class. For his collection, he drew inspiration from a hot summer afternoon in a town at the South of France. And that’s exactly what he created!

A tiny village with 32 (!) pastel houses and shops with models walking between freshly washed laundry and bloomed flower pots. His collection called La Collectionneuse was full of absolute winter favourites, neon fuchsia and orange, oversized suits, dresses with cut-outs and the either super tiny or oversized bags -a trademark of the designer.

The alternative Parisian brand Koché is moving in athleisure tones, honouring female icons such as Mae West and Mia Hamm and showcases their new collaboration with Nike at the Bercy basketball court. The collection consisted of patchwork designs, female football looks and spectacular hats made of feathers but what stood out was the anthropocentric presentation of this collection. Every time a model entered the “playing field” their name appeared at a lighted board in the court, introducing the models to the audience and treating them for once as something more than “walking mannequins”.

Στο Lycée Carnot, ένα υπέροχο σχολικό κτήριο που χρονολογείται από το 1895, πραγματοποιήθηκε το show του Issey Miyake με τίτλο "Chain of Inspiration". Φέτος, ο Yoshiyuki Miyamae προσάρμοσε το signature στiλ του οίκου στο νέο υλικό που παρουσίασε, το Dough Dough, με ιδιαίτερη ελαστικότητα και σημαντική «μνήμη» ως προς τις φόρμες. Κάτω από το φυσικό φως που έμπαινε από τη γυάλινη οροφή του σχολείου, ξεχωρίσαμε τα πρώτα looks φτιαγμένα από ton sur ton γκρι υλικό Dough Dough αλλά και τα πάντα ονειρικά plissé του οίκου σε neon αποχρώσεις. Με πολλά flashback συνεχίστηκε η Εβδομάδα Μόδας με σχεδόν όλους τους σχεδιαστές να ανατρέχουν στο παρελθόν, ο καθένας για δικούς του λόγους. Στο πολυαναμενόμενο ντεμπούτο του στον οίκο Celine, ο Hedi Slimane έκανε σαφή την πρόθεσή του να αφήσει το στίγμα του, αφαιρώντας τον τόνο από την πρώτη συλλαβή της ονομασίας Céline. Ωστόσο, η συλλογή κινήθηκε σε πιο μετριοπαθείς τόνους μιας «παλιάς» Céline, αντλώντας έμπνευση από μια καμπάνια του ’70, και παρουσίασε μεταξωτές μπλούζες και πλεκτά, σαν εκείνα που θα φορούσε μια bourgeoise Γαλλίδα του 1970. Όσο για το καλλιτεχνικό όνειρο του Anthony Vaccarello, αυτό ήταν βασισμένο στα 80’s, χωρίς όμως τις υπερβολές τους. Ο σχεδιαστής επέκτεινε τους κώδικες του αρχετυπικού γυναικείου κοστουμιού Saint Laurent, προσθέτοντας έντονους ώμους, ενώ το μαύρο χρώμα, οι παγιέτες και το δέρμα κυριαρχούσαν.

KOCHÉ

νας φόρος τιμής στο παρελθόν και στον ιδρυτή του brand Guy Laroche ήταν η συλλογή που ετοίμασε ο Richard René για τον ομώνυμο οίκο. Κάνοντας ένα λογοπαίγνιο με το la roche, που σημαίνει βράχος στα γαλλικά, o René βρήκε γόνιμο σχεδιαστικό έδαφος πάνω σε ένα μόνο print, αυτό του μαύρου μαρμάρου Nero Marquina. Το μικρό μαύρο φόρεμα αποκτά το effect του μαρμάρου ενώ τα power suits αλλά και τα διάφανα πουκάμισα διατηρούν το ίδιο print σαν μια μελωδία που επαναλαμβάνεται.

he collection, curated by Richard René for Guy Laroche, can only be characterized as a tribute to the past and the fashion house’s founder. Making a pun with la roche, which means rock in French, René based his collection on a certain print, the black stone marble, Nero Marquina. The little black dress adopts the marble effect, as power suits and see-through shirts follow the same motif.

The Issey Miyake show, titled ‘Chain of Inspiration', was held at Lycée Carnot, a beautiful school building that was built in 1895. In this year’s collection Yoshiyuki Miyamae adapted the brand’s signature style to a new material that was introduced to the collection called Dough Dough, a free and flexible fabric that accentuates each shape. As the natural light hit the runway through the glass roof, looks made of ton sur ton grey Dough Dough material and the brand’s dreamy signature plissé looks in neon colours made their appearance.

Fashion week 2019 continued with multiple flashbacks and the majority of designers drawing inspiration from the past, each for their own reasons. For his highly anticipated debut with Celine, Hedi Slimane made the intention to leave his mark clear, removing the stress from the first syllable of the fashion house’s name Céline. However, the collection displayed influences of the Céline of the past, drawing inspiration from the brand’s ’70s campaign and showcased silk blouses and knitwear, similar to the ones worn by bourgeoise French women in the 1970s.

As for Anthony Vaccarello’s artistic dream, it was influenced by the 80’s leaving the extravagance of the era aside. The designer built on the already established women’s Saint Laurent suit adding bold shoulders as the colour black, sequin and leather dominated the catwalk.

ο ταξίδι στη νοσταλγία φτάνει στο τέλος του με το γλυκόπικρο αντίο που είπαν όλοι οι φίλοι και οι άνθρωποι του οίκου Chanel σε έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους οραματιστές της μόδας. Για να παρουσιάσει την τελευταία συλλογή που σχεδίασε o Karl Lagerfeld για τη Chanel σε συνεργασία με τη νέα καλλιτεχνική διευθύντρια του οίκου, Virginie Viard, το Grand Palais μεταμορφώθηκε σε μια χιονισμένη Wonderland. Όταν τα μοντέλα εμφανίστηκαν στην κορυφή του σετ για να τιμήσουν τη μνήμη του, τηρήθηκε ενός λεπτού σιγή. Την εκκωφαντική σιωπή διέκοψε η φωνή του Karl που ακούστηκε από τα μεγάφωνα, για να δώσει το έναυσμα στην πρέσβειρα του οίκου, Cara Delevingne, να ανοίξει το show. Η νέα κολεξιόν ήταν εναρμονισμένη με τη διαχρονική αισθητική του οίκου και κυριάρχησαν τα έντονα ανδρόγυνα στοιχεία - το στιλ που τόσο έχει ταυτιστεί με τη Chanel. Οι «μούσες» Cara Delevingne, Mariacarla Boscono (η οποία δάκρυσε στο τέλος του show), Kaia Gerber αλλά και η Penelope Cruz σε εμφάνιση-έκπληξη ήταν εκεί και περπάτησαν στο τελευταίο του runway, φορώντας κλασικά tweed παλτό, puffer coats με τα χαρακτηριστικά CC κουμπιά αλλά και ολόσωμες pied-de-poule φόρμες. Ήταν σαν ο Karl να έκλεινε το μάτι στη Chanel του 1982, τότε που ανέλαβε για πρώτη φορά έναν οίκο που βούλιαζε και κατάφερε να τον κάνει έναν από τους πιο εμπορικούς, χρησιμοποιώντας τη δυνατή κληρονομιά της ίδιας της Coco. Ο ίδιος, βέβαια, πάντα δήλωνε πως δεν αντέχει τη νοσταλγία: «Αυτή είναι μια από τις ασθένειες της εποχής μας, να κοιτάζουμε πίσω. Η μόδα είναι το τώρα και το αύριο, ποιος νοιάζεται για το παρελθόν;» Κατά τα φαινόμενα, η ίδια η μόδα…

his nostalgic trip came to an end with a bittersweet goodbye to one of the biggest visionaries of fashion by friends and people who have worked for Chanel. Grand Palais was transformed into a snowy wonderland in order for Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection to be showcased. A collection that he co-designed with the new creative director of Chanel fashion house, Virginie Viard. When all the models came to the centre of the set to honour the memory of Karl Lagerfeld, a minute of silence was held. The deafening silence ended when Karl’s voice echoed from the speakers in order for the show to begin with Cara Delevingne, the Chanel ambassador, opening the show.

Cara Delevingne, Mariacarla Boscono (who couldn’t hold her tears at the end of the show), Kaia Gerber and Penelope Cruz in an unexpected appearance, were there and walked Karl’s last runway, while wearing classic teed coats, puffer coats with the signature CC buttons and pied-de-poule jumpsuits as well.

It was like Karl was nodding towards Chanel back in 1982 when he became the creative director of a fashion house ready to sink and managed to lift it to one of the most well-known ones, using the legacy of Coco as a tool. However, he was always the one to say that he couldn’t stand feeling nostalgic: ‘This is one of the afflictions of our times, to always look back. Fashion is about what’s happening now and tomorrow, who cares about the past?’. Apparently, fashion does…

άπως έτσι κατέληξε και το Wishlist 19, όπου για ακόμα μία χρονιά παρουσίασε τα καλύτερα προϊόντα του έτους μέσα από μια ιδιαίτερη έκθεση φωτογραφίας και ένα τεράστιο πάρτι. Ο κόσμος ξεκίνησε να έρχεται από νωρίς και σύντομα το showroom του ΟΖΟΝ στο κέντρο της Αθήνας γέμισε από κόσμο, ο οποίος κρατώντας μία μπύρα Heineken 0.0, δοκίμασε μικρά σνακ της νέας σειράς «Χωρίς» της Creta Farms και περιηγήθηκε στον γεμάτο χώρο. Ο dj Kissing Strangers είχε «ντύσει» το event με party μουσική και οι επισκέπτες έζησαν τη wishlist εμπειρία δοκιμάζοντας το νέο app της Forky, χρησιμοποιώντας τη νέα σειρά περιποίησης σώματος της Barnängen, γνωρίζοντας τα νέα προϊόντα της SYOSS και παίρνοντας μία γεύση από Ελλάδα με τα πρωτότυπα design items των Anamnesia. Οι λάτρεις του street style δεν έμειναν παραπονεμένοι αφού μπορούσαν να δουν το νέο εντυπωσιακό sneaker Azura της Saucony Originals, την καινούργια κολεξιόν του streetwear brand Homeboy και το νέο stylish waistbag της Eastpak. Κανείς δεν έφυγε παραπονεμένος αφού μπορούσε να δοκιμάσει τον νέο Nescafé Gold και την πάντα διαχρονική Pepsi και φυσικά, τον παραδοσιακό Μακεδονικό Χαλβά. Τέλος, οι καπνιστές μπορούσαν να δοκιμάσουν το glo™, την εναλλακτική πρόταση καπνίσματος με μειωμένο κίνδυνο μέσω της τεχνολογίας θέρμανσης καπνού από τη Βritish American Tobacco. Το πάρτι κράτησε μέχρι αργά με αμείωτο το κέφι και τα χαρούμενα vibes και πάνω από 500 καλεσμένοι έδωσαν το «παρόν». his idea became concrete with Wishlist 19. For one more year we displayed the best products of the year with a unique photo exhibition and a huge party. The guests started arriving early in the afternoon and soon enough OZON’s showroom, located in the centre of Athens, was filled with people who, while holding a glass of Heineken 0.0 beer, were trying mini snacks from the new Creta Farms line “No preservatives” as they were navigating throughout the crowded venue.

Dj Kissing Strangers was responsible for the dance songs accompanying the event and our guests had the opportunity to live the full Wishlist experience. They tried the new Forky application, they used the new body care line

by Barnängen and they were introduced to the new SYOSS products as they had a taste of Greece with the original design items by Anamnesia as well.

Street style lovers were pretty excited as they were able to see the new impressive sneaker, Azura, made by Saucony Originals, streetwear brand Homeboy’s new collection and the new stylish waist bag that Eastpak has launched.

Nobody was complaining since they had the chance to try the new Nescafé Gold, the all-time-classic Pepsi and, of course, the traditional Macedonian Halva. Last but not least, those who enjoy smoking tried glo™, the British American Tobacco’s alternative solution for smokers, due to its minimized danger as it heats tobacco instead of burning it.

The party continued until late at night. The 500 attendants were joyful and overwhelmed with happy vibes. Every year, OZON Wishlist introduces us to the best products of the year through a 360° experience and a huge party.

Taking as a starting point the deconstructive approach while mixing the arts of painting and sculpting, Panos Famelis redefines the painting process and at the same he creates the raw materials that he uses. Endless layers of oil and pigments create imaginative collages that invite you to interpret them however you want.

οια ήταν η στιγμή που κατάλαβες ότι θες να γίνεις καλλιτέχνης; Νομίζω ότι πάντα ήθελα να γίνω καλλιτέχνης αλλά ενδεχομένως χωρίς να έχω επίγνωση ότι το θέλω. Δεν ξέρω αν υπήρξε κάποια στιγμή που αυτή η απόφαση έγινε συνειδητή ή αν απλώς δεν υπήρχε άλλη επιλογή. Μίλησέ μας για τη διαδικασία που περνούν τα έργα σου μέχρι να φτάσουν στο τελικό στάδιο αλλά και για την παραγωγή των δικών σου χρωμάτων. Μέσα από το σύνολο και την εξέλιξη της πρακτικής μου προσπαθώ να θέσω ερωτήματα σχετικά με την ίδια την ιστορία της ζωγραφικής, τη ζωγραφική διαδικασία και την υλικότητά της. Να προσδιορίσω ένα «προσωπικό» ενδιάμεσο πεδίο μεταξύ ζωγραφικής και γλυπτικής και –ενδεχομένως– μια νέα χρήση της ύλης του χρώματος και της ζωγραφικής φόρμας στον χώρο. Αυτό γίνεται μέσα από ποικίλα αφηγηματικά πλαίσια, όπου με την εξέλιξη των έργων η ύλη μορφοποιείται σταδιακά σε μη αναπαραστατικές εικόνες. Δημιουργώντας έτσι μια συνθήκη που προκύπτει μέσα από συνεχόμενες μεταπλάσεις, τόσο της ύλης όσο και της οντότητας των έργων, τα ζωγραφικά έργα γίνονται γλυπτικές φόρμες που τελικά όσο πιο «περίεργο», αντιφατικό ή μη χαρακτηρισμένο είναι το αποτέλεσμα τόσο περισσότερο με ενδιαφέρει. Η παραγωγή του χρώματος (λαδομπογιάς) είναι μια καθαρά χημική διαδικασία που θα την παρομοίαζα με τη μαγειρική. Θέλει να ακολουθείς πιστά τη συνταγή, να έχεις αίσθηση των υλικών και να προσαρμόζεσαι σε οποιαδήποτε αλλαγή προκύψει. Για μένα, όλη αυτή η έρευνα ήταν κάτι που έγινε τελείως οργανικά, αφού ήθελα απλώς να ζωγραφίσω με μεγάλες ποσότητες λαδομπογιάς που δεν ήταν δυνατό να αγοράσω. Αυτό, τα τελευταία 14 χρόνια, με έβαλε σε μια ιδιαίτερα ερευνητική και παραγωγική διαδικασία τόσο θεωρητικά όσο και πρακτικά.

hat was the actual moment when you realized that you wanted to be an artist?

I think I have always wanted to become an artist but I wasn’t really aware of it. I don’t really know whether there was a certain point when this realization became concrete in my mind or maybe there just wasn’t any other choice for me.

Shall we talk about the process of your work’s creation from the starting point until the end and of course about the difficult task of creating the colours that you use?

I always try to ask questions and delve into the history of painting itself, the painting process and its corporeality through my own practice of painting. I want to determine a “personal” field between painting and sculpting and -possibly- the new use of pigments and the painting format in the artistic field.

This is possible through a wide range of narrative contexts, where as the artistic work progresses, the raw materials are gradually shaped into non-representative images. This way a new convention is created that emerges from the continuous transformation of materials and the entity of the artwork itself. In this new convention, paintings become sculptures and the more “curious”, contradictory or not-yet-defined the result, the more interesting I find it. The production of pigments (oil paint) is a chemical process, really similar to cooking. You need to follow the recipe, know your ingredients and be ready to adapt to any change that might occur during the process. This search for me began when I needed to paint with big amounts of oil paint that I couldn’t just buy. In the last 14 years, this fact has made me focus on this research process that has also been extremely productive for me, both in a theoretical and practical level.

ι αναφορές-επιρροές μπορεί να εντοπίσει κανείς στα έργα σου; Στη δουλειά μου έχουν υπάρξει πολλές αναφορές κατά περιόδους, κυρίως μέσα από άλλους ζωγράφους και κινήματα. Θεωρώ πως σε αυτό το στάδιο δύο είναι οι βασικές επιρροές που μελετάω: η παλέτα που δουλεύω και η φύση. Το νέο σύνολο έργων που παρουσιάζω, αποτελεί μία σπουδή στην παλέτα, την επιφάνεια από όπου ξεκινάει η ζωγραφική διαδικασία. Συγκεκριμένα, δεν αποτυπώνονται αισθητικά ζητήματα αλλά προβάλλονται, ωμά και άμεσα, όσα προκύπτουν από μία χρωματική έρευνα, κάτι που χάνεται όταν μεταφέρεται στη ζωγραφική επιφάνεια λόγω των αισθητικών προβληματισμών. Άπειρα τυχαία γεγονότα, «ατυχήματα», αναδεικνύουν σχέσεις οργάνωσης-χάους, που δημιουργούν σκέψεις για τις αισθητικές αξίες, εν γένει, αλλά κυρίως θέτουν εννοιολογικά ερωτήματα ως προς την υπόσταση των συγκεκριμένων έργων. Από την άλλη, θεωρώ πως η φύση είναι ένα σταθερό σημείο αναφοράς. Το πώς δηλαδή η φυσική ροή εξέλιξης επαναπροσδιορίζει, μέσα από συνεχόμενες μεταπλάσεις, τα οργανικά στοιχεία σε νέες οντότητες και έτσι δημιουργεί μια διαδικαστική πορεία, που θεωρώ πως είναι η ουσία και ο πυρήνας της δουλειάς μου. Θεωρείς πως στα έργα σου υπάρχει ισορροπία μεταξύ της μίνιμαλ προσέγγισης και της έντονης αισθητικής; Η οποιαδήποτε αναπαραστατική αναφορά στα έργα μου έχει να κάνει με ένα και μοναδικό στοιχείο, τη βία, αποτελώντας ένα ζήτημα που προέκυψε τελείως βιωματικά και ανήκει στο παρελθόν. Το 2002 είχα ζήσει μια ένοπλη ληστεία στο σπίτι μου, με έντονη σωματική και ψυχολογική βία. Αυτό το βίωμα με έβαλε στη διαδικασία να ασχοληθώ με την έννοια της βίας σε θεωρητικό και σωματικό επίπεδο (αθλητισμός). Έτσι, για κάποια χρόνια η θεματολογία των έργων διαπραγματευόταν ντοκουμέντα βίας από μέσα μαζικής ενημέρωσης. Με έναν τρόπο, τα έργα πάντα υπήρχαν σε έναν ενδιάμεσο χώρο μεταξύ παράστασης και αφαίρεσης και οι αναφορές αυτές λειτουργούν περισσότερο ως «ίχνη» μιας εικόνας, όπου η ωμότητα της εξαθλιωμένης σάρκας «καμουφλάρεται» με πολύ ελκυστικά χρώματα, έχοντας ως τελικό σκοπό να παραπλανήσει τις αισθήσεις του παρατηρητή. Θα παρομοίαζα τη δομή της αφήγησης των συγκεκριμένων έργων με το παραμύθι του Hansel και της Gretel των αδερφών Grimm.

hat references-influences can we find in your artwork?

In my work, there have been many references to other painters or movements from time to time. I believe that at this stage there are two basic influences in my work: my pallet and nature. The majority of my artwork is a study of my pallet, the surface where the painting process begins. Specifically, aesthetic issues are not reflected but emphasis is given in a raw and direct representation of what the research of colours results in; something that is always missing when the artist tries to depict it in the painting surface due to aesthetic concerns. Infinite random events or “accidents” reveal relationships of organization and chaos that create concerns for the aesthetic values and mainly raise conceptual questions with regard to the status of certain artwork.

On the other hand, nature has always been a concrete reference point for me. How the natural evolving process redefines the organic elements through continuous transformations resulting in a whole process, which I believe is the essence and core of my work.

Do you believe that there is a balance between minimal and bolder elements in your work?

Any reference found in my artwork is closely related to violence, an issue raised from my past experiences. In 2002, I lived through an armed robbery at my house and I was both psychologically and physically abused. This experience urged me to think about the concept of violence in a theoretical and physical level (athletics).

As a result, for a period of time, the majority of my work dealt with scenes of violence broadcasted by the media. In a way, my work has always been in a state between a representational and a deductive approach. These references I talked about before function more as “traces” of an image where the raw miserable flesh is camouflaged with charming colours in order to reach its final goal and mislead the observer’s senses. I believe that the structure of narration in these works is very similar to the wellknown fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, Hansel and Gretel. panosfamelis.com

Ως αποτέλεσμα, η είδηση ότι κομμάτια της συλλογής του ατελιέ τους On Entropy διατίθενται πλέον στο εμβληματικό κατάστημα Le Bon Marché του Παρισιού φαντάζει μάλλον ως αναμενόμενη εξέλιξη της εντυπωσιακής πορείας τους. Μαρμάρινες επιφάνειες που μετατρέπονται σε design φωτιστικά, συμμετοχές στις σημαντικότερες διεθνείς εκθέσεις design, ένα όμορφο ατελιέ στο Λονδίνο και άφθονες δόσεις ταλέντου είναι μόνο μερικά από τα συστατικά της επιτυχίας τους. Sisters Niki and Zoe Moskofoglou combine their love for design and decoration with their persistence to openness. As a result, the news that pieces from their collection, at their workshop On Entropy, can now be purchased at the iconic Le Bon Marché store in Paris are a rather expected development of their impressive professional path. Marble surfaces that they have transformed into design lights, participation in international design exhibitions, their beautiful atelier in London called On Entropy and abundant sources of talent are some secrets of their success. The On Entropy designer duo reveal their journey towards global recognition.

ώς γεννήθηκε το ατελιέ On Entropy και τι είναι αυτό που το κάνει να ξεχωρίζει; Όλα ξεκίνησαν μέσα από πειραματισμούς με το μάρμαρο, ένα υλικό που μας γοητεύει. Ψάχνοντας φωτιστικά για ένα καινούργιο σπίτι, δεν βρίσκαμε κάτι που να μας ικανοποιεί και κάπως έτσι καταλάβαμε πως υπάρχει κενό στην αγορά. Κάθε αντικείμενό μας προκύπτει μέσα από τον συνδυασμό του design με τη δεξιοτεχνία. Είναι ένας διάλογος πάρα πολύ σημαντικός τόσο για τη δημιουργία όσο και για το αποτέλεσμα. Θέλουμε να προκύπτουν σύγχρονα αντικείμενα και προσπαθούμε αυτό να φαίνεται μέσα από την υφή του υλικού και τη λεπτομέρεια. Επιθυμούμε να υπάρχει αλληλεπίδραση του χρήστη με το αντικείμενο σαν μία βιωματική εμπειρία, όχι μόνο χρηστική. Τι αντιπροσωπεύει για εσάς το μάρμαρο και πώς προέκυψε η «εμμονή» σας με αυτό το υλικό; Καθαρότητα, μεταμόρφωση και γαλήνη είναι οι τρεις λέξεις με τις οποίες θα το χαρακτηρίζαμε. Η εμμονή προέκυψε μάλλον διαισθητικά. Ο πατέρας μας είναι μεταλλειολόγος μηχανικός και από μικρή ηλικία μας έπαιρνε μαζί σε ταξίδια του σε λατομεία. Ήταν ένας χώρος παιχνιδιού για μας. Φαίνεται δύσκολο υλικό με μια πρώτη ματιά, αλλά μπορεί να μεταμορφωθεί και αυτό είναι που μας γοητεύει. Πώς προέκυψε η συνεργασία με το πολυκατάστημα Le Bon Marché του Παρισιού και πόσο δύσκολο είναι για ένα ελληνικό brand να «ανοιχτεί» προς την αγορά του εξωτερικού; Συμμετέχουμε σε διεθνείς εκθέσεις από το 2011 και έχουμε κάνει πολύ σημαντικές συνεργασίες, όπως με το Spazio Rossana Orlandi, την avant-garde γκαλερί της talent hunter Rossana Orlandi που θεωρείται «σταθμός» για τον χώρο της διακόσμησης. Η συνεργασία με το Le Bon Marché προέκυψε τυχαία. Επισκέφτηκαν κάποιοι αγοραστές του την έκθεση Design Junction του Λονδίνου τον Σεπτέμβριο, όπου εκθέσαμε τη νέα μας συλλογή. Τους άρεσε και προχωρήσαμε άμεσα σε επικοινωνία. Αν κάνεις κάτι με αφοσίωση, συνέπεια, ειλικρίνεια και τόλμη, τότε, ναι, μπορείς να «ανοιχτείς» στο εξωτερικό.

ow did the idea for opening your atelier, On Entropy, first come up and what makes it special?

It all started through our experimentation with marble, a material that has always appealed to us. While we were searching for lights for a new house, we couldn’t find anything that satisfied our tastes and we came to the realization that a gap in the market exists. Every item in our collections is a result of the merge of design and craftsmanship. The relationship between the two is very important not only for the creation of a product but also the ending result. We want to create contemporary objects and we try to make it obvious through the texture of the material and our attention to detail. We would like the user to interact with the object and to offer an experience that isn’t limited solely to the mere function of the item.

What does marble represent for you? How did your “infatuation” with marble started?

Clarity, transformation, potential and peace are four words that best characterize it. The infatuation with marble grew rather intuitively as our father is a mining engineer and from a very young age we travelled with him to quarries. We always saw them as playgrounds. At first sight marble seems difficult to operate on but it is able to transform, a fact that we find very appealing.

How did your collaboration with the Le Bon Marché store in Paris occurred and how difficult was for a Greek brand to “open its wings” towards markets abroad?

We’ve been part of international exhibitions since 2011 and we have achieved significant collaborations with Spazio Rossana Orlandi and talent hunter Rossana Orlandi’s avant-garde gallery, a well-respected place in the world of interior design.

Our collaboration with Le Bon Marché was rather random. In September, some of their buyers attended the Design Junction exhibition in London, where we exhibited our new collection.

They liked it and the discussions for working together started immediately. If you are committed, punctual, honest and bold, then yes, you will be able to expand towards markets abroad.

ι περιλαμβάνει η συλλογή COSMICITY και πού μπορούμε να τη βρούμε; Η COSMICITY είναι η νέα μας συλλογή φωτιστικών. Στη σειρά αυτή γεωμετρικά σχήματα συνδυάζονται σε μαρμάρινες τοτεμικές μορφές που αποδίδουν μία αίσθηση ελαφρότητας και φινέτσας. Έχουμε δουλέψει με λευκό μάρμαρο στο παρελθόν και τώρα είναι η πρώτη φορά που χρησιμοποιούμε έγχρωμα μάρμαρα σε φωτιστικά. Ποια τα επόμενα βήματά σας και πού θα θέλατε να δείτε το ατελιέ σε πέντε χρόνια; Για το άμεσο μέλλον ολοκληρώνουμε τα σχέδια για φωτιστικά και ειδικές κατασκευές σε ξενοδοχεία, όπως το Coco-Μat και το Astir, καθώς και τη μελέτη μας στη συλλογή για το Μουσείο Μπενάκη, δημιουργώντας μία νέα σειρά αντικειμένων για το πωλητήριό τους στο Four Seasons. Τον επόμενο μήνα συμμετέχουμε στο Salone del Mobile με ένα νέο αντικείμενογλυπτό. Παράλληλα, ολοκληρώνουμε τη συγγραφή βιβλίου για το μάρμαρο, ένα κεφάλαιο που ερευνούμε εδώ και 1,5 χρόνο. Είμαστε ευγνώμονες για τους ανθρώπους που εμπιστεύονται τη δουλειά μας και θέλουμε να συνεχίσουμε την ανοδική πορεία, επενδύοντας σε αντίστοιχες αξιόλογες συνεργασίες. Για την Ελλάδα, όπου το design έχει μικρή παράδοση, θα θέλαμε να εγκαθιδρύσουμε ένα πλαίσιο δημιουργίαςσυνεργασίας, το οποίο θα μας εξελίσσει προσωπικά αλλά και θα μεταδίδει τις γνώσεις μας σε άλλους.

hat does the collection COSMICITY consist of and where can we find it?

COSMICITY is our new lights collection. In this collection we worked with geometric shapes and marble totem forms that create a sense of lightness and elegance. We have worked with white marble in the past but this is the first time we incorporate coloured marble to our lights. Pink and green marble shapes alternate in harmony, showcasing how diverse this material is and, at the same time, the new trends concerning interior design. In Greece, you can find our new collection of the four hanging lights in pink and green marble at Halo Lighting and at Martinos Art gallery.

Have you thought about what your next step is going to be? Where do you see your atelier in five years?

For the near future we want to complete the design for lights and installations at hotels such as Coco-Mat and Astir, and our research concerning our collection for Benaki Museum, consisting of a line of items for their shop at Four Seasons.

Also, we are taking part in the Salone del Mobile with a new carved object. At the same time, we are in the process of finishing the writing of a book about marble, a project that we have been researching for 1,5 years now. We are very grateful for the people who have trusted us and we want to continue to grow and invest our time in notable collaborations. When it comes to Greece, a place where interior design hasn’t got a big tradition, we would like to establish a new creation-collaboration framework through which we will be able to evolve personally and also impart our knowledge on others. onentropy.co.uk

Everybody went through the brand new OZONRAW issue, our last issue for 2018 that invited us to stay true to the work that we have been doing. Needless to say that there wasn’t an issue left from the 1.000 issues that were at the event!

As in every Fashion Room Service, this unique event reached its peak with the long-anticipated music Party that began around 20:00 at Hilton’s Galaxy Room. Everything was “pretty in pink” as we collaborated with Beefeater Pink! It was all about the launching of our new favourite gin, which is based on the same prize-winning Beefeater recipe with the addition of strawberry extract, making our cocktail experience even cooler with the Beefeater PINK & Tonic.

At this huge fashion party having the most breathtaking view of festive Athens, DJ Grandbois from the well-known Black Athena label was responsible for the music until 21:30. Later on, the famous Greek DJ and producer Leon Segka was there with an “explosive” set, blasting tunes until the end of the party!

THE UNDAUNTED SPIRIT OF A JEWELRY DESIGNER Η σχέση του Βασίλη Μόραλη με τον σχεδιασμό και την κατασκευή κοσμημάτων ξεκίνησε στην εφηβεία και συνοδεύτηκε από σχετικές σπουδές και μαθητεία πλάι σε καταξιωμένους καλλιτέχνες του χώρου. Σήμερα, δημιουργώντας επιβλητικά κοσμήματα που εκφράζουν το δικό του όραμα και αισθητική, επιβεβαιώνει τη φήμη της σχεδιαστικής του διάνοιας, η οποία τον κάνει όλο και περισσότερο γνωστό στο ευρύτερο κοινό.

Vassilis Moralis’s relationship with designing and making jewellery began when he was only a teenager. It was followed by his studies and learning near already acclaimed artists. Today, he is creating impressive jewelry that express his own vision and aesthetic, confirming his reputation as a designing genius that keeps making him recognizable to broader audiences.

ομβικό σημείο στην τέχνη αλλά και στη ζωή του γενικότερα αποτέλεσε η διάγνωση της νόσου Wilson, με την οποία ο καλλιτέχνης έγινε έκτοτε συνοδοιπόρος. Η ασθένεια αυτή, εκτός από αντικειμενικό εμπόδιο, αποτέλεσε και κινητήρια δύναμη για τον σχεδιαστή κοσμημάτων, που όπως εξηγεί: «Τα υλικά έγιναν τα δικά μου εισιτήρια για ταξίδια έκφρασης των συναισθημάτων και αποτύπωσης της έμπνευσής μου». Έχοντας ως μοναδικά εργαλεία την έμπνευση και τα χέρια του, δημιουργεί ευφάνταστα κοσμήματα μεταμορφώνοντας απλά καθημερινά υλικά, όπως καουτσούκ, χάντρες και αλουμίνιο σε πλούσια σε όγκο κολιέ, βραχιόλια και σκουλαρίκια που συνδυάζουν τη διαχρονική πολυτέλεια με τις σύγχρονες τάσεις. Στην πορεία των χρόνων, οι πηγές έμπνευσης αλλά και το καλλιτεχνικό ύφος του Βασίλη Μόραλη άλλαξαν σε σχέση με το ξεκίνημά του, γεγονός που ο ίδιος βλέπει ως φυσική του εξέλιξη όχι μόνο ως καλλιτέχνη αλλά και ως ανθρώπου γενικότερα. Σταθερή αξία στη ζωή του παραμένει η πόλη του, Θεσσαλονίκη, που με το έντονο παρελθόν της και τον κοσμοπολίτικο χαρακτήρα της αποτελεί διαχρονική πηγή έμπνευσης για τον καλλιτέχνη. Όπως αναφέρει: «Η πόλη μου είναι οι μνήμες μου. Και αυτές οι θύμησες αποτελούν συστατικό της έμπνευσής μου». Κόντρα στις μινιμαλιστικές τάσεις που επιβάλλει η σύγχρονη μόδα, ο Βασίλης ακολουθεί πιο μαξιμαλιστικές γραμμές στα κοσμήματά του, εντυπωσιάζοντας με αυτά κάθε γυναίκα που τα δοκιμάζει. Αρκεί κανείς να τον παρατηρήσει για λίγη ώρα στο ατελιέ του και να θαυμάσει τα «μαγικά» του χέρια με τα οποία μέσα σε λίγα λεπτά δημιουργεί μικρά αριστουργήματα έτοιμα να φορεθούν και δύσκολα να επαναληφθούν.

urning point for his career and his life in general was the fact that he was diagnosed with Wilson’s disease, with which he’s been going through life ever since. This disease, except for an obstacle, was also the driving force for the jewelry designer as he explains to us “The materials I’m working with became the ticket to a journey of expressing my feelings and imprinting my inspiration on my art”. His inspiration and hands were his only materials, with which he created imaginative jewelry transforming simple everyday materials such as rubber, beads and aluminum to voluminous necklaces, bracelets and earrings that combine timeless luxury with contemporary trends.

With the course of time, his source of inspiration and artistic style have changed, compared to when he first started designing, a fact that Vassilis Moralis sees as the natural development for him not only as an artist but also as a person.

One thing that remains unchangeable throughout his life is his favourite city, Thessaloniki. With its bright past and its cosmopolitan character, this city remains a constant source of inspiration for the artist. As he tells us “My city is my memories.

And these memories function as the main element from which I draw my inspiration”.

Against minimal trends enforced by the contemporary fashion world, Vassilis Moralis adopts a maximalist point of view concerning his jewelry, which impress every woman that tries them on. It only takes a few minutes for one to observe him at his studio in order to admire his “magical” hands with which he creates little masterpieces, ready to be worn and very hard to replicate.

NIKOS NIKOLAOU UNDERWATER FANTASIES Ιδιαίτερα ταλαντούχος και πολλά υποσχόμενος, ο Νίκος Νικολάου ανήκει στους νέους φωτογράφους που ξεχωρίζουν στην καλλιτεχνική σκηνή της χώρας μας. Έχοντας ως κυρίαρχα μοτίβα του τη θάλασσα, το φαντασιακό στοιχείο και τη γοητεία των βυθών, έχει ήδη πραγματοποιήσει δύο solo εκθέσεις, σε Αθήνα και Λονδίνο, και έχει συμμετάσχει σε αρκετές ακόμα. Ανάμεσα στα ταξίδια που κάνει φωτογραφίζοντας, τον συναντήσαμε στην Αθήνα και μας μίλησε για τη φωτογραφία, τη μόδα, τη Μύκονο αλλά και για το νέο του project.

ιατί επέλεξες να σπουδάσεις φωτογραφία μόδας; Είχα την τύχη να σπουδάσω στο London College of Fashion και να αποφοιτήσω από το συγκεκριμένο πανεπιστήμιο από όπου δεν βγαίνεις επαγγελματίας φωτογράφος με τεχνικά skills, αλλά καλλιτέχνης. Όσον αφορά τη μόδα, θεωρώ ότι είναι πολύ περισσότερα από τα ρούχα που φοράμε. Είναι οι τάσεις, το στιλ και η δυναμική κάθε εποχής, τα οποία βρίσκω φοβερά ενδιαφέροντα. Ήταν μία επιλογή που μου άλλαξε τη ζωή. Από τον χώρο της μόδας μεταπήδησες σε πιο καλλιτεχνικές φωτογραφίσεις. Πού οφείλεται αυτή η μεταστροφή σου; Η βιομηχανία της μόδας είναι ένας πανέμορφος αλλά πολύπλοκος κόσμος. Νομίζω ότι η μόδα με περιόριζε στο πώς ήθελα να εκφραστώ καλλιτεχνικά μέσω των φωτογραφιών μου. Πάντα ήθελα να είμαι ελεύθερος να δημιουργώ τις εικόνες που βγαίνουν από μέσα μου, όπως τις έχω φανταστεί χωρίς περιορισμούς, με τον δικό μου προσωπικό τρόπο και ύφος. Το υποθαλάσσιο σκηνικό αποτελεί το κεντρικό θέμα σε όλες σου τις εικόνες. Τι είναι αυτό που σε εμπνέει περισσότερο σε αυτό; Η θάλασσα, το νερό καθώς και το ελληνικό φως σε συνδυασμό με τους υπέροχους βυθούς και τα πεντακάθαρα νερά φτιάχνουν ένα ιδανικό σκηνικό που μαζί με τα σώματα που ποζάρουν υποβρυχίως με εμπνέουν πάρα πολύ και με μαγεύουν κάθε φορά που δημιουργώ. Κάτω από την επιφάνεια του νερού υπάρχει ένας τελείως διαφορετικός κόσμος και είναι πρόκληση να προσπαθείς να τον αποτυπώσεις. Δεν είναι κάτι εύκολο, ούτε για εμένα αλλά ούτε και για τα μοντέλα που φωτογραφίζονται. Τη λατρεύω αυτή την πρόκληση. Στο έργο σου είναι φανερό ότι κυριαρχεί η γυναικεία μορφή. Γιατί; Το γυναικείο σώμα είναι κάτι που πάντα θαύμαζα. Έχω πάντα ως κεντρικό στοιχείο τη γυναικεία μορφή μέσα στις φωτογραφίες μου. Η γυναικεία ομορφιά καθώς και τα σώματα που δημιουργούν σχήματα μέσω της ευελιξίας τους είναι από μόνο του κάτι μαγικό και το βρίσκω πάρα πολύ ενδιαφέρον.

Particularly talented and very promising, Nikos Nikolaou is a young photographer that has managed to stand out in Greece’s artistic scene. He employs the sea, the element of imagination and the charming seabed as main themes of his work. He has made two solo exhibitions in Athens and in London and he has taken part in many more. Even though he is always travelling for work, we managed to meet him in Athens and discuss about his photography, fashion, Mykonos and his new project.

Πολλές από τις φωτογραφίσεις σου έχουν γίνει στη Μύκονο.Υπάρχει κάποιος λόγος που επιλέγεις το συγκεκριμένο νησί; Η Μύκονος είναι ένας μοναδικός τόπος γενικά αλλά και για προσωπικούς λόγους. Για να αγαπήσεις αυτό το νησί, πρέπει να περάσεις αρκετό χρόνο εκεί. Να καταλάβεις την τρομερή ενέργειά του. Είναι ένα μέρος που δεν ταιριάζει σε όλους αλλά αντικειμενικά έχει πανέμορφες παραλίες και βυθούς ενώ τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες έχει πολλά μουσικά events, τα οποία της δίνουν χρώμα και ζωντάνια. Επίσης, το networking που κάνεις σε αυτό το νησί είναι κάτι που δεν μπορεί να συμβεί πουθενά αλλού στην Ελλάδα. Τι είναι για εσένα μία «καλή» φωτογραφία και τι θέλεις οι άλλοι να ξεχωρίζουν στα δικά σου έργα; Πιστεύω πως κάθε φωτογραφία έχει κάτι να πει. Μια δυνατή εικόνα είναι αυτή που σε κάνει να τη σκέφτεσαι ακόμα και όταν δεν τη βλέπεις. Επιτυχημένες εικόνες είναι αυτές που ο δημιουργός τους καταφέρνει να σε πάει εκεί που θέλει, να σε ταξιδέψει. Στις δικές μου φωτογραφίες δεν έχω στόχο να ξεχωρίσει ο θεατής κάτι συγκεκριμένο. Τον αφήνω να πάρει αυτό που θέλει. Εγώ απλώς τον καθοδηγώ λίγο και τον αφήνω να νιώσει όπως αυτός θέλει να νιώσει. Υπάρχει κάποιο project με το οποίο ασχολείσαι αυτόν τον καιρό; Έχω επιλέξει να δημιουργώ σκηνικά για υποβρύχιες φωτογραφίσεις, κάτι το οποίο χρειάζεται υπομονή και ταυτόχρονα με περιορίζει, διότι γίνεται κυρίως τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες στη θάλασσα. Υπάρχει κάτι πάνω στο οποίο δουλεύω, αλλά θέλει χρόνο για να ολοκληρωθεί. Το μόνο που μπορώ να πω προς το παρόν είναι ότι θα συνεργαστώ με επαγγελματίες αθλήτριες της συγχρονισμένης κολύμβησης για κάτι μοναδικό, το οποίο είχα για καιρό στο μυαλό και στα πλάνα μου.

The underwater setting is the central theme of all your photographs. Could you tell us what inspires you the most about it?

The sea, the water as well as the Greek sunlight combined with the marvelous seabeds and crystal clear water make the ideal setting; together with the bodies that pose underwater, they inspire and amaze me every time I am in the process of creating.

A completely different world exists under the sea; a world that invites you to try and capture it. It is not an easy job, neither for me nor for the models, who are photographed. But I just love the challenge.

It is quite clear that the female shape dominates your work. Why is that?

I have always admired the female body. I always place the female form as a central element in my photographs. The female beauty as well as the bodies that create shapes with their flexibility is something magical and at the same time really interesting to me.

Many of your photoshoots have taken place in Mykonos. Is there a reason for choosing this particular island?

Mykonos is a unique place generally, and for me personally as well. One has to spend enough time on this island in order to love it; to appreciate its wonderful energy. It is a place that doesn’t appeal to everyone but it is fair to say that there are a lot of beautiful beaches and seabeds, while many music events take place during the summer months, making the island even brighter and full of life. In addition, the networking that happens in Mykonos is something that you can’t find anywhere else in Greece.

hy did you choose to study fashion photography?

I had the chance to study at London College of Fashion and upon graduating I wasn’t a professional photographer with technical skills but an artist. When it comes to fashion, I believe that it is much more than just the clothes we wear. Fashion is the trends, the style and the dynamic of each season, something that I personally find really interesting. It was a choice that changed my life.

You have shifted your attention from fashion photography to its more artistic side. Is there a reason for this shift in your photographic interests?

The fashion industry is a rather beautiful but quite complex world. I felt that fashion held me back from expressing myself artistically through my photographs. I have always wanted to feel free to create the images that emerge from the inside, exactly the way I have imagined them, without any restrictions, in my own way and style.

What makes a “good” photograph for you and what would you want others to extract from your own work?

I think that every photograph has something to say.

A strong image makes you think about it even when you don’t see it. Successful photographs are the ones that the photographer manages to take you wherever he wants to. In my photographs, I don’t have a certain element that I want the viewer to emphasize on. I let them take whatever they want from it. I just guide them for a bit and then I let them feel whatever they want to feel.

Is there a project that you are working on these days?

I have decided to create settings for underwater photoshoots; a project that requires patience and at the same time restricts me, as it can take place in the sea mainly during the summer. There is a project on which I am working but it will take time in order to be completed. The only thing I can reveal for now is that I am working with professional synchronized swimmers on a very unique project that I had in mind for a long time. nicknikolaou.com

FOTINI DELAGRAMMATICA THE NEW WAVE IN INTERIOR DESIGN Ακολουθώντας την προσωπική της αισθητική, η Φωτεινή Δελαγραμμάτικα αποφάσισε μετά την αρχιτεκτονική να ασχοληθεί με την εσωτερική διακόσμηση. Κάπως έτσι προέκυψε η συνεργασία με το made.com, ένα e-shop που μέσω του διαγωνισμού TalentLAB δίνει την ευκαιρία σε νέους interior designers να υλοποιήσουν τα σχέδιά τους. Έτσι δημιουργήθηκε το νέο της project, τα μίνιμαλ γεωμετρικά χαλιά Jo Fringe, που συνδυάζουν την εσωτερική διακόσμηση και την αρχιτεκτονική με έναν αναπάντεχο τρόπο.

ώς προέκυψε η ιδέα για τα ασύμμετρα χαλιά; Το προϊόν είναι μια ιδέα που προέκυψε ως αποτέλεσμα της μελέτης των σχημάτων και των χρωμάτων. Πρόκειται για ένα κλασικό χαλί με κοψίματα και εκπλήξεις στα κρόσσια, συνδυάζοντας τις παραδοσιακές τεχνικές με μια πιο σύγχρονη απόδοση. Ουσιαστικά, είναι το αποτέλεσμα μιας σχεδιαστικής μαθηματικής «πράξης». Η ένωση των δύο σχημάτων σε διαφορετικές αποχρώσεις δημιουργεί νέες απροσδόκητες μορφές. Η σύγχρονη σχεδιαστική του γλώσσα και η απλή αλλά κομψή αισθητική συνδυάζονται εύκολα σε ποικίλους εσωτερικούς χώρους. Ποια ήταν η διαδικασία μέσα από το made.com; Το made.com διεξάγει τον διαγωνισμό για το TalentLAB στον οποίο συμμετείχα με τα σχέδιά μου. Η ομάδα του made.com με επέλεξε ανάμεσα σε πολλές προτάσεις και δημιουργήσαμε, μαζί με άλλα αντικείμενα, τη συλλογή Accent Collection. Υπήρξε μια πολύ ωραία ατμόσφαιρα στη συνεργασία μας. Προχώρησαν σε κάποια δείγματα και σε περίπου έναν χρόνο προέκυψε το τελικό προϊόν της συλλογής. Από εκεί και πέρα, η συλλογή διένυσε μια περίοδο crowdfunding καθώς είναι σημαντικό για την εταιρεία το προϊόν να γίνει αποδεκτό και από το αγοραστικό κοινό. Το χαλί μου, Jo Fringe, ξεπέρασε το 100% της χρηματοδότησης και τώρα θα μπει στην παραγωγή! Τι αποτελεί για σας πηγή έμπνευσης, τόσο για τον σχεδιασμό όσο και για τους χρωματικούς συνδυασμούς; Πηγή έμπνευσης αποτελούν τα πάντα, οι ανθρώπινες συνήθειες, η μόδα, το σινεμά, τα ταξίδια, η ιστορία, η γεωγραφία και κυρίως οι ανάγκες. Είναι ανεξάντλητες οι πηγές για να ξεκινήσεις! Ενώ οι κανόνες του design το 2018 παρότρυναν τη μινιμαλιστική διακόσμηση, φέτος έχει επανέλθει ο μαξιμαλισμός. Ποια η γνώμη σας και οι προτιμήσεις σας; Οι τάσεις και οι μόδες αντανακλούν πάντα την κοινωνική και οικονομική συγκυρία του πολιτισμού μας. H γνώμη μου είναι ότι ο σχεδιασμός πρέπει να προσαρμόζεται στον χώρο που απευθύνεται, όχι με βάση τις τάσεις που κυριαρχούν κάθε φορά αλλά με βάση τις ανάγκες του. Έτσι, καταφέρνει να γίνει και το ίδιο το project μία τάση. Μου αρέσουν οι designers που δεν έχουν πεπατημένη και κάθε φορά αντιμετωπίζουν με διαφορετική οπτική το κάθε έργο.

Remaining loyal to her own personal aesthetic, Fotini Delagrammatica decided, upon concluding her studies in Architecture, to move on to Interior Design. This resulted in a collaboration with made. com, an e-shop that through a competition, called TalentLAB, offers the opportunity to young interior designers to implement their designs. That prompted the beginning of her new project, the minimal geometric rugs Jo Fringe, that combine interior design and architecture in an unexpected way.

Πώς θα χαρακτηρίζατε την εγχώρια σκηνή του design; Επιστρέφοντας από το Λονδίνο, όπου εργαζόμουν πριν από πέντε χρόνια, διαπίστωσα ευχάριστες σημαντικές εξελίξεις. Πιστεύω πως η εγχώρια σκηνή design αισθητικά βρίσκεται στην καλύτερη φάση που υπήρξε ποτέ. Οι designers ταξίδεψαν, έκαναν ωραίες σπουδές, εργάστηκαν δημιουργικά σε διάφορα γραφεία και έτσι οι ορίζοντες διευρύνθηκαν. Παράλληλα, η οικονομική κρίση, ενώ συρρίκνωσε μεγάλα γραφεία που επαναλάμβαναν τον εαυτό τους, έδωσε χώρο σε άλλα, πιο δημιουργικά, με αποτέλεσμα να βγουν στη επιφάνεια πιο φρέσκες και ψαγμένες προσεγγίσεις.

Tι συμβουλή θα δίνατε σε ένα νέο παιδί, που σκέφτεται σοβαρά να ασχοληθεί με το design; Ό,τι λέω και σε εμένα καθημερινά. Να δουλέψει σε γραφεία, να κάνει συνεργασίες και ταξίδια, για να αποκτήσει εμπειρίες, να πιστεύει σε αυτό που κάνει, να τολμά και να έχει πάντα διερευνητική ματιά.

ow did the asymmetrical rugs idea occur?

This product is an idea that was the result of research on geometric shapes and colours. It is a classic rug with cuts and the element of surprise in its fringe, which combines traditional techniques in a more contemporary version.

Essentially, it is the result of a designing mathematical problem.

Combining these two shapes in different colours creates new unexpected shapes. Its modern designing language and its simple and elegant aesthetic are beautifully adapted in a wide range of interior spaces.

Could you tell us about your experience with made.com?

Made.com conducted the TalentLAB competition in which I took part with my designs. The made.com team chose between many proposals and we created the Accent Collection among other objects as well. Our collaboration happened in a wonderful atmosphere. They moved on with some samples and approximately a year later, the final product of the collection emerged. From that moment forward, the collection passed a crowdfunding period, as it is essential for the company that a product should be accepted by the customers. My carpet, called Jo Fringe, surpassed 100% of its funding and it is now ready to move on to the production stage.

From what do you draw inspiration, concerning your designs and colour combinations?

Everything can be a source of inspiration for me; from human relationships, fashion and cinema to travelling, history, geography and mainly our needs. There is unlimited inspiration for one to begin with!

Even though minimalism conquered the world of interior design in 2018, nowadays, we can detect maximalism making a comeback. What do you think of this shift and what is your personal preference?

Trends and fashion always reflect the social and financial circumstances of our civilization. What I believe is that designing should adapt to each space not in terms of trends that dominate from time to time but emphasizing on what each space needs.

As a result, each project manages to become a trend on its own.

I admire the designers that don’t follow a known approach but rather deal with each artistic project from a new perspective.

If you could name three golden rules in interior design, which would these be?

The element of narration, as there should be personal elements reflected in each space. Functionality. Freedom.

Where can we find Rugs for made and where will their production take place?

At the moment, the crowdfunding process for the rug has been completed successfully. Hence, you will be able to find them online at made.com’s online collection in the upcoming months.

Made.com is an English company that its goal is to reduce the hidden production costs of design products and for that reason it employs production factories in England and all over the world as well.

Is there an interior design project made in Greece that you consider a masterpiece?

Designs by the architect Takis Zenetos. A dress made by the fashion designer Loukia. The traditional ceramic basin for dough kneading in the colour of clay with minimal white decorations, made by anonymous ceramic artists.

How would you characterize the interior design scene in Greece?

Returning from London, where I worked for 5 years, I observed positive changes of big importance. I believe that the domestic scene of interior design is at the best stage that it has ever been. Interior designers have travelled, studied, worked creatively for different companies and their horizons have been broadened. And while the financial crisis resulted in the downscale of big companies that tended to repeat themselves concerning their projects, it offered space to other more creative ones. As a result, fresh and sophisticated approaches have surfaced.

What piece of advice would you offer to a young person, who wants to become an interior designer?

It would be the same thing that I tell myself every day. To work in various companies, collaborate with others, travel in order to gain different kinds of experience, believe in what you do and be always in alert for new ideas.
