Οι πρόγονοι, όμως, αυτής της γενιάς γνώρισαν την πρωτότυπη εκτέλεση του "I got you babe" το 1965 από τους Salvatore Bono και Cherilyn Sarkisian ή αλλιώς το δίδυμο των Sonny & Cher. Η ιστορία τους κράτησε περισσότερο από δέκα χρόνια κι εκτός από την τραγουδιστική τους πορεία, περιλαµβάνει κεφάλαια από δύο εκποµπές (The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, The Sonny & Cher Show) όπου ξεχώρισαν και ως performers.

Everyone in the ‘80s heard that song from UB40 and their cover version in collaboration with Chrissie Hynde. The previous generation, however, heard the original version of “I got you babe” in 1965 performed by Salvatore Bono and Cherilyn Sarkisian or, in other words, the Sonny &Cher duo. When they first met, she was 16 and he was 27. Sonny and Cher have gone down in history as ostensibly one of the most mismatched couples, but this is common to every Pygmalion-protégé relationship. Their story lasted for more than a decade and apart from their career as singers, it also entails chapters of two shows (The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, The Sonny & Cher Show), that enabled them to stand out as performers, too. “I got you babe” sums up their shared life

and has become the headline song of their posthumous fame. They broke up in 1974 only to meet again in November 1987 as guests at David Letterman’s show, where they sang their “hymn” for the last time. After their breakup Sonny embarked on a career in politics, while Cher continued dabbling in music, television and cinema, which led to an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe award, as well as various awards at the Cannes Festival, not to mention being credited and recognized as Goddess of Pop (although today the word ‘Goddess’ has been substituted by ‘Grandma’). Her Pygmalion died in 1998 in a skiing accident, a little bit later came her biggest success with the song ‘Believe’. Cher survives and as time wears she is found with a barrage of plastic surgeries, music hits and style flops. She becomes a gay icon and a pop idol for artists, ranging from Cindy Lauper and Tracy Chapman to Britney Spears and Lady Gaga; they all remember her for more than one reasons. We are either suitable or unsuitable for each other, or maybe this is what we are looking for. Different people are meant to click because they need each other. Because a certain one can provide the answers to the other one’s questions. The reasons don’t change, we all want the same things; someone to make us laugh someone to hold our hand, to take us into their arms and kiss us good night. We are the ones who change and put more or less effort for all those things. Good night babe…

Χαρακτηριστικός ο τρόπος που στο πρώτο single “Lagoon” ο Powers επαναλαμβάνει μανιωδώς “You will never die, you will never die“ και δεν ακούγεται καθόλου μα καθόλου καθησυχαστικός. Behind the “Youth Lagoon” project is a 24-yearold boy called Trevor Powers. This young guy from Idaho has just released his second official album, remaining inseparable to his keyboards and performing pop tunes in minor scales, which reach our ears like lullabies before falling asleep. The production becomes simply more splendid this time, while the outcome brings to mind stories of the Flaming Lips or of some of the worst bad trips of Syd Barrett, without necessarily meaning that this whole epicness is outshining the vulnerable character of his tunes, both in lyrics and music. One more thing worth-noticing is the way Powers fiercely repeats at the first “Lagoon” single “You will never die, you will never die” and he doesn’t sound comforting at all.

George Fitzgerald

If anyone wants to comprehend how the dubstep movement of the previous decades’ media, eventually influenced the dance music scene in its whole - even the most conventional type of clubbing which is based on 4/4 rhythm - they only have to explore the case of George Fitzgerald. This 27- year old fellow with the 'heavy' name belongs to the dubstep/ garage scene of Northern London, where he, however, never managed to become an honored member. Fleeing to Berlin, instead, was the triggering event that encouraged him to leave his mark on the music genre he serves, after distancing himself from the scene he loves. Gradually, his productions toned down meeting the rhythm of house, techno and garage forms, without losing, their London-style wild beauty. This ingenious combination has caught the attention of some of the most important independent labels of our time like Hypercolour, Manmakemusic and above all Hotflush of the prominent Scuba, which supported Fitzgerald in his early steps and entrusted him with a vital part of its strategy plan for the next year. With all these accomplishments and underground hits like ‘Child’, not to mention remixes on Jessie Ware and Deetron songs, G. Fitzgerald is considered to be one of the biggest talents of the previous year and an artist we need to keep a close eye on during 2013. soundcloud.com/george-fitzerald

After completing its international journeys, the multiple times awarded debut film by Ektoras Lygizos is finally on Athenian and Thessalonian theatres, as a rare type of cinema made to be experienced…

A few minutes after having watched the first full-length film by Ektoras Lygizos, you are not quite sure if it was a film, a documentary or a biopic, wherein a restless camera, documents even the slightest details of the life journey of a hero starting from the literal realization of his “starvation” to end up in a violent and almost desperate coming-of-age state. One thing though one is sure of is that for about 90 minutes you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen, as the boy (performed stunningly by Yiannis Papadopoulos) walks though his own daily routine in Athens and gradually loses everything; money, food, his house, his people, the amazing tenor voice he has, himself, but not his inner need to survive and the temptation to eat the food of his pet canary, while trying to keep it alive with any possible way. While playing with symbolism, and in the same time paying a straightforward tribute to Robert Breson , Lygizos is on the verge of a film concept implemented with great mastery from the very first to its last minute. “Boy Eating the Bird’s Food” can be translated into something more: an experience that begins with the reality of sordidness emanating from a person you could easily notice in the central streets of Athens, and reaching an almost ascetic state of praying, as an only way out, as the only hope when there is nothing left. “Boy Eating the Bird’s Food” by Ektoras Lygizos will be released at the Athenian theatres on May 9 and in Thesssaloniki on May 16.

Fashion Room Service, in its extra-large version, included 27 rooms turned-into-showrooms, an intriguing blend of audience and one of the biggest parties ever hosted by OZON Raw magazine. The Fashion Room Service event by OZON Raw mag took place in the beginning of April it the heart of Athens, at Fresh Hotel. This time, it was presented in its extra-large version- the 27 participants –– were more than ever. The participants - designers and brands- used their imagination to transform the rooms of the sixth and seventh floor into their personal showrooms for an entire evening. Balloons, pictures, anime heroes, flowers, homemade sweets, and anything that could possibly turn up in a room, combined with a lot of music, warmly welcomed the guests to the event. The number of attendees was beyond our expectations; photographers, stylists, journalists, fashion editors, bloggers and a unique crowd combination swarmed into Fresh hotel to view the designers’ spring suggestions, while many of them made their first purchases of the season. The evening came to an end with a big DJ-set party organized by Absolut Vodka at the Air Lounge Bar of the hotel, while the guests enjoyed the spectacular view of the Acropolis.

SYNCHRODOGS byzantine

19

Tania Shcheglova and Roman Noven, first got into photography as amateurs, back in 2008. At this point, after having participated in a series of group and solo exhibitions and contributing in publications like Dazed & Confused, Vice and New York Magazine, the Ukrainebased photography duo publishes the most special moments of its career in its debut monograph entitled ‘Byzantine’. Tania and Roman didn’t start as a photography duo; the time they spent together as a couple led them naturally to the formation of Synchrodogs. This is how they first introduced themselves to us through an interview, after taking up an editorial photo shooting for a past issue of OZON Raw (May 2012). The distinctive way they treat their subjects is reflected in every single shot, whether that is a fashion editorial, or primitive landscapes. Their photos are governed by simplicity and eccentricity photos at the same time, leading to an authentic outcome. Their book -titled ‘Byzantine’, will be released on March 13, featuring the most interesting moments of their photography career to date. Both the title and the images chosen, are highly representative of the motives that became a source of wider inspiration for the photographers, emphasizing on Ukrainian and Byzantine tradition as well as local folk art. The book is available online in the following address: http://editionsdulic.com/collections/frontpage/ products/byzantine-synchrodogs

mary retsina & dimitris mavrokefalidis early mornings

Which is the dullest part of your daily routine? D: The very moment I wake up. Lately, I have been pondering over possible ways to exterminate the snooze button. M: The fact that I wake up every day at 05.45 am in order to be on time for my radio show which starts at 07.00 am. Fortunately, when I get into my car, every negative thought disappears. Till the next morning that is...

What do you do in your spare time? D: Working out, cycling, visiting exhibitions hosted at the HUB, Texnopolis or TAFF, reading foreign magazines and watching series that have been chosen by the strictest criteria. M: I struggle to finish some of the books that I buy impulsively, I listen to loads of music, organize trips but most of all, I get tons of sleep!

D: I dance all kinds of dances, I make my own bowties and my cooking specialty is chicken enchiladas. M: I once was a scout. The funny thing is that until I reached the “Guides”, the highest scout rank, I had to be a member of the “Birds” scout team, which is a totally forbidden word for someone who has ornithophobia like me.

Breaking Mad airs on MAD TV every Saturday and Sunday at 11.00 am, and in replay every Monday and Wednesday at 21.00.

Mary Retsina always knew that being a radio producer was the only job suitable for her. Dimitris Mavrokefalidis has been involved in the media field for many years, and indeed has explored most of the industry’s fields. We got to know them as a duo through Breaking Mad, a TV show that presents all kinds of odd - or not - things happening in our current world. Tell us something we would never guess about you two.

What would you change in Athens? D: I would place libraries in central spots of the city, supported by solar systems, I would “dress” more buildings with stencils and graffiti. I would move the chess pawns in the window of the Booze bar, because an unfinished game makes me nervous… M: Everybody’s mentality. Everybody needs to make a great deal of effort, especially young people. Breaking Mad airs in MAD TV every Saturday and Sunday at 11.00 am, and in repeat every Monday and Wednesday at 21.00.

Cara Delevinge girl on fire

and ambitions that go beyond the fashion industry, her interests as well as her personal style.

In case of a fire which garment would you save first? That would be my leather jacket, beyond doubt! How would you describe your personal style? I dress as a tomboy by day, but when it comes to formal events I prefer to embody a certain character. I could wear anything and still feel comfortable, as long as I can identify with my role.

Which is your favorite memory from a fashion show? The time I opened the Chanel fashion show in Versailles is a special memory for me– you only get to know you are the first to go on the catwalk a few minutes before the show, which is stressful but, in the same time, exiting and amazing.

Besides modeling, you are also an aspiring actor and a keen drummer. Do you have any other hidden talents? I love singing and apparently I enjoy getting rid of all this tension that comes out while playing drums, which is physically exhilarating. My part in ‘Anna Karenina’ was probably one of the most important moments of my career and made me want to pursue acting a bit more.

Cara Delevigne, stars in the Pepe Jeans S/S’13 campaign, after taking part in numerous fashion shows for prestigious labels, being on the cover of important fashion magazines and participating in the movie “Anna Karenina”,. The talented British model talks to OZON Raw about her dreams

Συνέντευξη Ozon Team Interview Ozon Team

How do you handle all the criticism you receive? Luckily I get a lot of support from my family, Storm model agency, the people with whom I co-operate in the fashion world and definitely my followers in Twitter, who don’t let me feel lonely. I love them. They all help keep my feet on the ground. How do you imagine yourself in five years from now? Living on a desert island, fishing and growing my own vegetables. With a few personal albums and films on my CV. 23

performances µου.

You and your boyfriend, Raffaele Cuccu, started making your own music. How has your relationship developed over this time? Working together toward a common direction is actually our best tool. We work faster and harder. We don't compete and if we fight we do it for the same cause, for the same dream, so it's worth it. Photography is a big touchstone in your work. Do you see music production as an extension of your creativity? Shooting photographs pacifies

me. I love creating a plasmatic reality in which I'd love to be a part of. Music, on the other hand, lifts me up; it excites me, it makes me feel weak and powerful at the same time. It provides this raw energy I need for my creative process. Your photographic approach emphasizes on details and the vital bonds we make through life. Is this your own way of questioning the essence of things in life? It is actually the only way through which I can understand life. The essence you mention can only be seen by those who have been

seduced by life. My photography reminds me I’m alive. You have been also selected as one of the one hundred new talent photographers in the 2011-2012 top list of the Artist Wanted Awards. I am not a big fan of awards but I feel happy after all. You confront the artistic market and common taste of your time. You have labeled your music electro/punk…How would you describe yourself? I am a non-conformist willing to comply and this is what I want to show through my performances. I like to have my own point

of view on society, life – granted that I have the right arguments to defend it. How does it feel to be a Southern European in Berlin? Cold and easy. Of course I had to curb my expectations about Nordic societies and the way they socialize- as it is rather different than in Spain. It is true however that it is a city easy to live in but you have to work a lot to be given opportunities.

// At the age of 19 he begun to watch one theatrical play per day starting with “Suburbia” at the “Epi Kolono” theater. At the age of 34 he won the “Dimitris Horn” award for his performance as Josefino in Mario Vargas Lliosa’s “La Chunga”. Dimitris Lalos, an essential member of the NAMA theatrical group, believes in those stories that can change your reality, even a little. He loves super heroes and of course, you can find him at the “Epi Kolono” theatre – his second home- every day.

What does the team Nama ‘manifesto’ say? We want to make theatre in a way that it can intervene without being marginalized. We strive to influence without getting influenced ourselves and, in the same time, we want to get influenced in order to be able to influence others. Do you run the risk of becoming didactic when dealing with theatre that way? The most important thing for us is to avoid having this kind of attitude and I believe that we manage that through the plays we choose to perform and the multi-culti style of our team. We always try to adopt a more global perspective, avoiding to point fingers at anybody. Are you interested in stories which can have a “shelter” effect? I think that plays with a comforting effect give a false sense of safety and conjure up fast-fading emotions. The audience, when leaving the theatre, will start feeling the same way as before. We don’t have false impressions that our performance will change things, but our goal is to make the public leave the theatre feeling a little bit changed. Sometimes we achieve that, other times we don’t. In any case, we don’t want them to leave enraged. I think we already deal with a lot of brutality.

How can one avoid ‘big words’ and banalities? I guess one can’t. Clichés might not be that accidental. Maybe words like: ‘Let’s move on’, ‘Let go’ or ‘Time for new things’ are necessary. They give us courage. Some words prepare you for what is about to come and this happens because probably there is a constant repetition of things. There are some plans that seem to work and nature uses these patterns over and over again. Around us, we find certain predicaments that have occurred in the past as well and will take place again in different forms in the future .. War, famine, love will come again. This is called life. Which heroes do you find more charming? Superheroes (laughs). I believe that our actions are those that make us cowards or heroes, not our very existence. When the moment comes, you will become a hero. Where do you think lies the essence of heroism? Everyday symbolic heroic acts or acts of virtue can transform you into a hero. To me, a hero is the one who picks up a piece of litter from the floor when no one can see him. If you were in front of 15.000 people and you had to tell them only one story, what would that be? I would like to give them a brand new picture that some people might have never imagined before. For instance, it is said that nuts are hard to digest. You can make someone consider it as a fact, by helping them imagine that every nut has the possibility of becoming a tree. So, with this example, when one leaves the theater, he is taking a brand new piece of information with him that could benefit him. Maybe the next time he needs the power of a tree, he can just eat a nut. Which part of the story matters to you the most? I am mostly interested in the way one could recount a story. The angle from which one chooses to narrate it. There are so many ways to tell a story and this is what intrigues me the most in this job. www.epikolono.gr 37

punk, hip hop ή techno. Θα προτιµούσα να είµαι παιδιάστικος, να σοκάρω και να εκπλήσσω από το να κάνω το προβλέψιµο. Σε κάθε συλλογή σου είναι προφανές πως εμπνέεσαι από το παρελθόν και ύστερα, µε ιδιοφυή µαεστρία, το συνδυάζεις µε την οπτική σου για το sci-fi µέλλον. Τι κάνει το παρελθόν τόσο ελκυστικό για έναν προοδευτικό σχεδιαστή σαν εσένα;

Do you feel that fashion can be seen as a medium of an autobiographic imprint of the creator? What would you like people to think of you when seeing your designs? I think some people create from a single point of view, while others finds inspiration in their upbringing. Looking back at my previous collections, it’s not hard to tell that I used to listen to hard core, punk, hip hop and techno. Getting a genuine reaction from people, positive or negative, is really important to me. I would rather be childish, shock and surprise rather than do what everyone expects. In every collection it is apparent that you draw inspiration from the past, which, with an ingenious craftsmanship, you combine with your vision of a sci-fi future. What makes past so appealing for a forwardthinking designer like you? You have to be aware of the past to move forward. Ιt’s important you do a thorough research on the specific subject you are working on. Military history, ‘80s sci-fi authors, films and cartoons have always inspired me. The combination of structure and rebellion, or military order and anarchy comes across throughout my work. One direction is never enough for me and I always draw inspiration from different time periods while trying to take it one step forward. We all witnessed the boom of street-style blogs all around the world. Do you feel that personal style has faded away due to this information overload or did it have the opposite outcome? Somehow you cannot be negative about this. People all around the world express themselves through the internet. When they adapt ideas and mix them with their own it’s cool. On the other hand, I’m so tired of this of 15-minutes-of-fame culture thing, hoping there’ll soon be some kind of counter-movement. Let’s talk about 90’s. What is your favorite memory of that

decade and which fashion item defines it best? The fact that I was free without worries, listening to punk through my head phones while skateboarding at a beach in Denmark. Not sure if I can find a specific item, but when my mom bought me my first skateboard I was more than happy; I was flying.

Athens and you will be showing you’re A/W ’13 collection to the Greek public. What are you most anxious about? I’m really thrilled about this. I’ve never been to Athens, so this is going to be a great experience for me. Traveling abroad and showcasing your work to a different audience is always so exciting.

Dash one of a kind

// Noémie Schwaller, Editor-in-Chief along with Harald Weiler, Features Editor of DASH magazine, are writing their own history in the field of self-published magazines. Born and raised in London's hip Dalston, Vienna and Zurich, DASH turned out to be the new fashion print focusing on fashion illustration, which truly incorporates the authenticity, roughness and fucked-up chicness, the above cities stand for. NoéMie and Harald become a real torrent while talking to OZON about their brainchild.

νου.

When and why was DASH magazine created? What was the most challenging part of

launching DASH Magazine? Noémie: I’ve been working on DASH‘s concept and market research since early 2011. DASH grew from my passion for illustration and fashion during my MA at the London College of Fashion. I was just crazy enough to actually make it real. So I launched the first issue a year ago in February 2012 with a party listed on the official London Fashion Week calendar. This was, maybe not the most challenging, but certainly the most exciting and nervewracking moment of launching DASH. Yet, the most challenging part was, and probably is, as with most start-up companies, to find investors and funding to start off with and to keep going. How have you experienced the relationship between illustration and fashion? Noémie: At art school, I did a lot of drawing as well as nude sketching. That’s how I became familiar with body shapes and textiles. Having always been a little fashionista, it just naturally caught my eye. I guess the first time I ever saw a fashion illustration was probably in a women’s fashion magazine, where they use drawings for the horoscope, beauty section and such. Those are quite tacky to begin with, and they’re not really providing a suitable platform for illustration. I knew there must be more to it. And there is. How do you work together? What keeps this project growing successfully? Noémie: When Harald and I first met, we immediately clicked and felt that we shared a similar aesthetic and a passion for the print industry. At the time, I was just about to finish the debut issue of DASH Magazine and Harald initially came on board as my proofreader and copyeditor. In the beginning, we used to meet up in East London pubs and spend whole evenings going over texts. As time went on, Harald became more and more involved as my Features Editor from issue 2 onwards. He's got experience in publishing and a great understanding of the written word. Since June 2012, he's

been onboard the DASH train full-time where we bounce ideas off each other and work in great synergy. Some roles got defined over the course of creating, but there are a lot of things we take responsibility for the two of us. Harald: I am personally intrigued by what self-published magazine culture can achieve, however, you chose to launch a magazine amidst a creative chaos i.e. a worldwide difficult economic situation. Didn’t you feel threatened by this reality and the self-published fluidity? Harald: It’s absolutely necessary to consider the risks before you launch a project, but being overly anxious and playing it too safe will not get you far, especially if you’d like to keep your creative freedom. We never over-think it, just work hard. I’d say, if we can make it now, it can only be easier in better times. Does this aesthetic choice eventually inform the readers better? In other words, do you perceive that fashion illustration can be just as influential as fashion photography? Noémie & Harald: Before the arrival of photography, illustration was the only means of depicting fashion and the latest trends, so fashion-conscious people in the 18th century informed themselves about the latest trends on so-called ‘fashion plates’. Certainly, with the improvement of technology and the introduction of photography, access to such images was fastened and internationalized quickly. Yet, if it’s not a matter of speed, fashion illustration can well depict fashion in the mood a brand wants to communicate or a world in which it wants to be positioned. What are your hopes for the future of DASH magazine? Noémie & Harald: To keep growing and gaining monetary independence without losing the passion.

// Taking things seriously is actually something relevant. Stathis Athanasiou is a clear example of that, as he has taken the most crucial decisions of his life in an impulse or, let’s say driven by certain enthusiasm that he just had to make something of. Drawing inspiration from a picture of a novel by Elias Venezis, he came up with the idea of “A”, his new project which suggests a totally different relationship between the cinema, the audience and our current world. Stathis explains to OZON RAW, how you can be led to something both honest and meaningful, only by thinking simply and limitlessly.

Our goal is to make cinema a livelier medium that will encourage society to contribute in a more active way.

The myth

The decisions In my adolescent years I was obsessed with heavy metal in its crazy glam rock version. So I took a guitar and said to myself that I would become a musician. In a decade- more or less- I realized that music was not the thing to fill me with the joy of creation. The idea of becoming a doctor came up as well for a while, because of an old friend of mine, who desperately wanted to become a doctor when in the same time he looked just like Marilyn Manson. I liked his style so much, that I decided to become a doctor as well. My first three years in medicine school were great, but working at the hospital, made me realize

it was nothing more than another unsuitable job for me. At some point I was introduced to the world of image, which was totally understandable to me without putting a great deal of effort. This is the time when I said that “ok, here we are”.

A new type of cinema Prompted by the ancient myth of Antigone, we wish to talk about what’s taking place around us during this time of violent change. When I was writing “A” I was thinking that there must be found a ground-breaking way to make this story known to the public. Over the last years independent cinema has adopted some new practices regarding distribution and budget on an international level. If you are supported by a potent team, then you have what it takes to realize what you have in mind. After two years of preparation, “A” has managed to become the first full length film in Greece, whose audience participates actively in the production process, both financially and creatively. This same audience will watch the film under the sounds of a live orchestra in the ancient theatres of the Mediterranean and will participate in thematic acts which touch on various art forms.

The only way myths can change the world is by letting them do their job. In other words, by shutting down our overanalyzing minds, feeling the things they are talking about and consequently by seeing them around us. Myths don’t talk about theoretic stuff; they talk about relationships and conflicts. If we let ourselves feel what the story is about, we will eventually feel which the right solution is. This is the way I deal with things, too; I feel them. My first full length film called ‘DOS’ came out of my huge need to express what I was feeling that moment. After two years, I see it as the sweetest period of my life on a creative level; making a film out of nowhere in two different cities –Athens and Barcelona- with both Greek and foreign actors was a huge venture for me. In this film I couldn’t have made more mistakes. However, it went great thanks to its sheer honesty and the fact that I abolished every possible kind of censorship I could have imposed on myself.

The essence lies in simplicity I am very fond of short titles; it could be a word or anything very short. I came up with “A” from the very first scene, which acted as a source of inspiration for the whole film and reminded me of the myth of Antigone. As I had no clue of how to name the film, I temporarily gave it the name “A”. Temporarily became permanent and there lied “A”, all ready. “A” symbolizes a million things; it could stand for Antigone, or, being the first letter of the alphabet, it could symbolize the beginning. Anyone could give a different definition. I don’t want to give a further explanation of what ‘A’ stands for because I will deprive the rest of all your “A’s”, and that wouldn’t be nice.

FROWN meeting point

// Aggeliki, Konstantinia, Maria and Marianna explored, different fields of art- each in their own way, before deciding to create “Frown” in 2010. Their aim was to set up a scene where young creators would meet and interact. Since then, Frown curates the exhibition and performance of acts and artistic events, based on interaction and new media, as well as hosts workshops.

What sort of events do you host? Art performances, which are not merely theatrical and combine both visual arts as well as the way body functions in a given place; in other words they bring together body, speech, movement and visual arts. We are also interested in live-art performances, where the body is the basic element, but this could also include installations, new media or dance. What is the criteria for choosing the artists that participate in your events? We announce open-call auditions and then evaluate the body of work of each artist before reaching a common decision; Angeliki and Konstantinia are the ones to decide on the performance-related events and Maria on the ones related to visual arts. Afterwards, the work of each artist is gradually developing in collaboration with us and eventually takes its final form in order to be presented to the public. We support them by giving advice or technical help, depending on the phase every artwork is in. We are always open to suggestions of any artistic context, so we are interested in receiving fresh material and initiating new collaborations. What do you mean by saying “affiliation/ contact with the artistic product”? In what ways can it be achieved? It refers to the dialectical relationship created between the public and the artist. As we don’t condone the established process of an exhibition setting, we don’t host exhibitions. We aim to develop a link between the artist himself and the visitor, which is achieved through conversation and dialogue concerning the artwork. This happens within the frameworks of Ambassadors. How come you decided to organize workshops as well?

The idea of organizing workshops, which aim at the creation of products that bear everyone’s signature was not such a widespread concept, so we decided to take the initiative. We emphasize on the importance of team work, as we believe that through the exchange of ideas we can make something nice. Workshops are divided into two categories: the seminars, where one interested can attend and participate, and the workshops where the attendees can create something by themselves and take it with them. An essential prerequisite of participating in any workshop is being in the mood for experimentation. Why is it essential? Our utmost concern is not to attract people who are well aware of the subject. The workshops are addressed to those who are not familiar with a certain subject, but are willing to learn with our help and share their ideas. Everyone can participate, as long as they are in the mood for inspiration and creation, whether alone or in collaboration with others. Why did you choose the historic Athenian centre as your basis? The fact that we are close to other creators definitely plays a major part. We like the fact that “creative neighborhoods” pop up in the centre of Athens where things happen so we want to be present. We were located in Keramikos and moved to Omonoia mostly for public accessibility reasons.

// 'Snehta' stems from Athens but written backwards and the city itself is its main focus-subject. Snehta is a team based in a house in Kypseli and an art residency at the same time. The team's main mission is to reveal and restore the hidden nature of the city. They’ve recently welcomed their new guests: artists Elliott Burns and Boris Lafargue and talk to OZON a bit before releasing them in the city.

Snehta revealing Athens

artists we will welcome this year, involve the city viewer or urban stroller by giving them a position of action, in their practice- either through workshops, performances or outdoor interventions. When is the mission accomplished? Are any missions ever accomplished?

What should we be aware of concerning the Snehta mission? Snehta, aims towards a certain kind of art that shall bring change upon the community. For this reason we want to further develop on educational programs that will take forums, events and exhibitions we have already established through this project- one step further. We are interested in collaborating with as many people as possible that share a similar vision. What's the most difficult aspect of such an initiative? The most difficult aspect of any initiative is sticking to your mission and objectives. For Snehta in particular, it is rather to cooperate with the local community and to identify as a project. Athens is extremely socially as well as politically segregated- something that makes establishing Snehta as an extrovert project a real challenge. How do you wish to explore the relationship with the neighborhood of Kipseli? In our last open call for example, we were seeking for artists for whom social interaction is an intrinsic element of their practice while being able to form a political opinion. It is the artists’ practices that will break the chasm between professional, guild-like tendencies and the general public. A good example would be Jessica Dunleavy, a young British artist we will welcome to Snehta in June, who wants our help to build a skill exchange library in Athens. There, people from the local community of Kypseli or anywhere in Athens will be able to register their skills with the potential to exchange them in order to get familiar with other skills. We hope similar ideas will add to the project creating a more permanent structure. Christina Georgiou, Elliott Burns and Boris Lafargue, the rest of the

The world is in a perpetual state of change. Snehta stemmed from the ability to salvage, use or redifine elements of a culture, of a city, and make use of an extremely aware and dynamic youth. Athens will change, and so will the project. There will always be a hidden side, a distorted image of the city. There will always be the need for

projects with that centrifugal force that Snehta embraces. It’s all about the importance of the peripheral and its importance as a conceptual wasteland that receives the aftershocks, perceives the ruins and the core’s abject strata.

Ο Ιρλανδός σχεδιαστής Alan Taylor σπούδασε Σχέδιο Μόδας στο National College of Art and Design του ∆ουβλίνου πριν µετακοµίσει στο Λονδίνο. // Alan Taylor, is an Irish designer that studied Fashion at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, before moving to London. After having worked for several important designers, including Alexander McQueen and Simone Rocha, as well as having modeled for Hedi Slimane, he started his own line. His rich Irish cultural heritage, the theory of the fourth dimension and the films of Martin Scorsese reach a crucial meeting point through his work. So, pay attention since we are not dealing with just another young designer but an artist that is bound to catch and maintain our interest in the immediate future.

ALAN TAYLOR the fourth dimension

What's the main theme of your new collection? The main inspiration was the theory of the fourth dimension; therefore the collection took a more surreal direction while holding on to a subtle minimal style. How do you find the Irish fashion scene compared to London's? Incredible talent lies in the Irish fashion scene, proven by people like Simone Rocha,JW Anderson and Sorcha O'Raghallaigh who are established on an international scale through their work. London, though, will always be more advanced; people from all over the world come to London to creatively evolve.

When and where do you work best? Can you describe your creative process? I am a night person; I never really get anything creative done before 2pm and I could stay up all night working. I keep a notebook and carry it with me all the time, where I take notes of all my ideas and then develop the concept. Once I feel ready, I begin to transform those ideas into garments- working non-stop till I create a complete collection. Your two previous fashion

films were immaculate. What fascinates you in film making? Well, specifically on fashion films, I love the way one can play with concepts, while in a lookbook the photos emphasize on the details and textures of the garments displayed in a collection. The film can be more abstract, because it doesn’t necessarily have to be informative. You’re A/W ’13 collection is particularly dramatic. Was it a conscious decision? Yes, I think so. I consciously decided to bring all my ideas on contemporary menswear into a collection that pays attention to concept, fabrication and silhouette. I am constantly trying to achieve a balance between abstract conceptual design and wearable garments, with known commercial campaigns without letting one concept upstage the other. What is your most humble and most ambitious goal for the future? My most humble goal would be to still be able to gain pleasure from my work as a designer even ten years from now, and the most ambitious to some day open my own store in London.
