INTRODUCING JUSTIN’S MONTHLY TOUCHPOINTS

RETIREE ROUNDUP: OZINGA ALUMNI BUSY IN RETIREMENT

If you watched the Ozinga Rally videos or the Q1 Townhall, you’ll know that safety and engagement are two of my goals. While I would love to get out in front of every coworker for some face-to-face interaction to improve engagement, I know that’s not easy to do. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to connect with you as often as possible. With that, I want to introduce my monthly videos. These will be short videos that will be shared with each of you every month so you can hear more about my goals. The first one is coming out in early May, so be sure to look for it. We will continue to host the quarterly townhalls, but these touchpoints will allow for more interaction between me and all our coworkers, no matter where you are located. It will also allow me to continue pushing each of you to strive for your goals. I’m looking forward to making these videos and sharing them with you.

SOUTH FLORIDA WELCOMES ERNESTO HERRERA South Florida welcomes Ernesto Herrera to the team as the new fleet manager. Ernesto has some big shoes to fill, as he will be taking over the responsibilities of our late coworker, Don Kremke, but we have nothing but confidence his skills and experience will keep our operation running efficiently.

OZINGA ACQUIRES ARGOS USA OPERATION IN DORAL, FLORIDA

LARRY LYZENGA ENJOYS OZINGA OUTING VACATION RAFFLE

As mentioned in the Q1 townhall, we are excited to announce we have expanded our South Florida operation by acquiring the Argos USA readymix concrete facility located directly next to our current Doral operation at 12201 NW 25th Street.

During the Ozinga Outing that took place back in August 2021, we gave away three vacation packages. Larry Lyzenga, ready mix driver at our Joliet yard, won the $5,000 vacation package.

This expansion will allow us to serve more customers in the South Florida marketplace by having two dry-batch plants at that location.

He and his wife Marianne recently enjoyed that vacation at the Valentin Imperial Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Most of the Argos USA coworkers have joined our team, and we are excited to have them come onboard and build relationships that will last for generations.

“We want to express our thanks to the Ozingas for an amazing vacation; we had a wonderful time.”

OUR PURPOSE: PHIL KLOTZ

for this company, and their faces light up.”

College isn’t for everyone, yet many people don’t realize the number of wonderful career opportunities that are available for those who may not desire to seek more education after high school.

One day when he was volunteering at a touch-a-truck event, a young blind girl asked him if she could get in the cab. “She sat in the driver’s seat and she asked me to explain what every knob and button in the cab did and how it all worked, and she was extremely interested in learning all the details and all about Ozinga,” shared Phil. “It was one of the best moments I’ve ever had.”

This is where Phil Klotz, plant maintenance in our Indiana East region, steps in. Phil has held a variety of positions at Ozinga, including driving a ready mix truck, operating a payloader and currently managing plant maintenance in our Indiana East region. Throughout his entire career, there is one thing that Phil has always been passionate about: educating younger generations on the career possibilities at Ozinga. “The younger generations need to start looking at the long-term commitment of a career at companies like Ozinga,” said Phil. “We need to encourage people who don’t want to go to college that there are great opportunities out there for them with good benefits and long-lasting rewards.”

Phil’s advocacy for Ozinga has enabled him to make a positive impact in many ways, and could potentially be making a positive impact for generations. “I want the younger generation to truly grasp what we’re doing at Ozinga,” said Phil. “This is a forward-thinking company that really strives to make everything better, and the next generation should be proud to have the opportunity to help us build.” Outside of Ozinga, Phil remains dedicated to mentoring younger individuals and making a positive impact in the community. In his small group at church, he mentors young people with bible study. He is also involved in the Wakarusa Town Council where he sits on the tech review board and oversees blueprints and plans for new businesses in the area. **Do you have a story to share about how you or someone you work with made a positive impact on a coworker, customer or community? Please reach out to internalcomms@ozinga.com.**

Phil’s passion for recruiting young professionals has given him the opportunity to work closely with our Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning team. He is currently working with Robert Schlanser and Rene Alvarado on a partnership with Horizon Group that will allow him to visit local high schools and talk with students about jobs in the trades. Aside from working with this team, Phil takes it upon himself to volunteer for touch-a-truck events and parades so he has the opportunity to educate children of all ages on the possibility of one day working for Ozinga. “Those red and white stripes are a representation of our company in the local communities, and children are always in awe when they see one of our trucks up close,” said Phil. “I use this opportunity to let them know they could one day drive this truck or work 6

Higher engagement not only means you have a better experience working here, but it also affects the bottom line of things like safety, turnover, customer service and product quality.

Diversity, Unity & Fellowship – Cultivating Our Culture of Belonging at Ozinga We want to embrace the unique differences of our fellow man, and our new diversity initiative allows us to do just that. Diversity in the workplace is not only an opportunity for expansion, but promotes improved cultural awareness, increased productivity, and innovation. This is primarily because different people bring more experiences, perspectives, and ideas. In alignment with Ozinga’s core purpose, our new Diversity, Unity & Fellowship initiative is designed to: • Strengthen and sustain Ozinga’s organizational culture • Diversify our network • Celebrate our unique differences through representation • Cultivate awareness with collaborative learning and development opportunities • Create experiences that promote connectedness Diversity Quality, state, fact, or instance of being diverse; difference. The condition of having many different elements; variety. (Our fellow man) Unity The quality of being one in spirit, sentiment, purpose, etc.; harmony; agreement; concord; uniformity. (Our mission) Fellowship A mutual sharing, as of experience, activity, interest, etc. (Our events/shared experiences) With Diversity, Unity & Fellowship in mind, on March 25, the Mokena office hosted a Women’s Social in honor of Women’s History Month. Joya Calloway facilitated the group with about 25 women (and a few men) in attendance, enjoying specialty cakes from a local female-owned bakery.

Female leaders in the office served as a small panel for the event. They spoke about their career journeys, as well as shared insight into hope, healing and the positive impact 9 women can make as they pursue careers and balance family life.

SAFETY DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES LEGACY TALKS The Safety team is happy to introduce our Legacy Talks for 2022. Based off the success of our 4th Quarter Blitz in Q4 of 2021, we want to continue the conversations with our frontline workers and keep safety in the forefront of everything we do. The Legacy Talks are designed to generate more coworker involvement into the safety program. This format will give a little more leeway to how these get performed. Between 4-5 topics will be assigned each month. Each topic will be covered throughout the month with each of our frontline coworkers with the help of our previous Safety Starters or management involvement. Each Legacy Talk will include an introduction of the assigned safety topics, receiving feedback from coworkers regarding safety and working with management to continually improve our safety program and safety culture. Below are the Legacy Talks topics for April and May: • • •

OZINGA MAKES POSITIVE IMPACT ON SUNSET SERVICES FL, LLC With today’s instant access to technology, it’s not often we receive words of appreciation via the mail—instead, we get a text message, an email or even a public Tweet. However, Sunset Services FL, LLC (also known as Sunset Maintenance) thanked our South Florida team by sending their satisfaction in a traditional letter.

the same urgency and respect as a larger company. “I would like to share my gratitude for the outstanding product you sell,” wrote Robert Macfie, president of Sunset Services FL, LLC. “In addition, the service and communication from your company is top notch. We are grateful for our over 10year business relationship and look forward to our continued business.”

OZINGA WINS AWARD AT SCA’S AWARD CEREMONY Ozinga was recently awarded the 2021 Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete award from the Slag Cement Association (SCA) for our work on the University of Notre Dame Hydroelectric Plant. This award is given to projects that showcase the broad applications of slag cement and its impact on creating more durable and sustainable concrete. Ozinga earned the award in the Durability category due to showcasing SCMs performance at such a replacement level. The Hydroelectric Plant project had very strict requirements for their mix design, including a very low water-to-cement ratio, a viscosity modifier to ensure cohesiveness, a large slump that would be workable and pumpable in combination with the steel rebar, and hold up to high external water pressure from the river, all without exceeding budget.

Sunset is a small company whose business we earned thanks to our South Florida Banaszak acquisition back in 2017. They typically handle smaller miscellaneous jobs, and companies like theirs often struggle to find concrete producers willing to work with them due to the small scale.

Over the course of three years, Ozinga tested and designed a mix meeting all strict temperature, strength, durability and cost requirements. Our Indiana Ready Mix team brought this entire project to life, and we recently won awards from the Indiana Ready Mix Concrete Association for our work on this project as well.

Ozinga’s South Florida dispatch, however, has done an amazing job to partner with Sunset as often as possible and ensure their jobs get handled efficiently and with
