A MESSAGE FROM Justin Spring is here! I always love this time of year when nature comes back to life in the Midwest. Take advantage of the nicer weather and go for a walk, have a talk or watch a hawk. By the way, did you know the Red Tailed Hawk’s eyesight is eight times more powerful than humans? There is one in my neighborhood keeping guard—his name is George.

ORGANIZATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT Back in early 2021, Marty IV shared the news that Justin Ozinga would be taking over as president of Ozinga while Marty himself moved into a CEO role, overseeing Ozinga, Ozinga Ventures and the family business. In addition to those changes, Justin recently announced that Paul Ozinga will now be taking over as president of Ozinga’s entire ready mix operation. In addition, Jeff Ozinga will continue to hold his executive vice president of ready mix title, but will now focus on technology. Jeff Bonnema, Greg VanderVelde and Keith Onchuck now report directly to Jeff. All of these changes will help Ozinga live into our purpose of making a positive impact on our coworkers, customers and communities.

There are a few things I am requesting you to dwell and act on as the year gets busier. First, there is nothing more important than your safety and the safety of those around you. Be mindful and aware of your surroundings. Think before you act. Second, enjoy the ride; don’t take yourself too seriously. Laugh more, turn off the news, take your vacation time and turn off your phone! Third, I forgot what I was going to say.

OZINGA MANAGERS START TRAINING Since mid-December, we’ve been offering professional development opportunities supporting the Ozinga values and purpose to all levels of management. Nearly all have been virtual, instructor-led trainings averaging 3-4 hours. The training wraps up the last week of April with the following courses:

OZINGA IS

HIRING Hiring season is in full gear and we have already welcomed 58 new coworkers in the first quarter of 2021! It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes intentional managers to build a strong team and realize the impact that team can have. We continue to partner with hiring managers across the organization to help attract candidates who will continue to make Ozinga a people-centric company. Whether you are a current coworker, or you have retired from a rewarding career here, who do you know that would enjoy what you have found to be special at Ozinga?

Here’s what managers are saying about the courses: • “I’m grateful for the opportunity to attend this workshop and grow with these trainings. I feel supported by ownership when these opportunities present themselves.” • “This training helped me take an inner look at myself and get some insight on how to use my strengths in life and work settings.” • “I appreciate the instructor’s willingness to listen to everyone and make the online format really engaging.” • “Every new manager should take this course.” • “The course gave me tools to help me utilize the strengths of my team, and for my managers to be more successful, engaged and happy.” We would love to hear from you if you’d like to learn more about professional development at Ozinga. Referrals are the best compliments we can receive and help build a strong pool of talent from which to choose. Please direct those who could be future valued coworkers to our career page (ozinga.com/careers) to apply for a posted position, share their information with the Talent Acquisition team, or encourage them to create a candidate profile with us. With your help, we can continue to build amazing teams that impact one another, our families and the communities in which we work and live.

Let’s Celebrate! Did you know May is Older Americans Month? Ozinga wants to celebrate by asking you one simple question:

Working safely is one of the best ways to make a positive impact on individuals, their families and the community. Time with family and time with friends, doing the things we enjoy with our free time — that is why we work safe! Please take a second for safety, pause before you climb a ladder, before you grab your chutes, before you exit your vehicle, or before you start a job and think about what could go wrong and what you can change to prevent an accident or injury.

What’s the best advice you’ve received from an elder? Please share your information with us by emailing internalcomms@ozinga.com so it can be featured across our company. 6

Ozinga, in partnership with Tekton and Moss & Associates, poured 20,000 cubic yards of ready mix concrete to build the post-tension structure. While the finished product is beautiful, the project wasn’t without its logistical challenges.

The pour site was situated in the middle of a busy residential district with limited space for a large concrete truck. Ozinga had to work with the customer to ensure the concrete was poured as quickly as possible to mitigate any negative effects on surrounding neighbors and traffic.

Make An Impact in Your Community! Each quarter our Community Builders focus their efforts on a particular need in the communities where we live and work. For Q2, our focus is physical health. With that in mind, we will be collecting sporting goods and fitness equipment for community organizations that serve children and families that will benefit from their programs. If you are able, please place your donation in the Community Builders bin at your yard or office. National Volunteer Week

Among the ways we live into our purpose is by volunteering our time to help those in need. National Volunteer Week, April 18-24, brings attention to these efforts and reminds us about the positive impact we can make by sharing our time. It’s an opportunity to find a new way to volunteer in person, online, by yourself or with coworkers, friends or family. Here are a few ideas to help get you started: Write a letter or draw a picture for someone in a nursing home Record a video of you reading a children’s book for a child in the hospital Write a letter or draw a picture for a veteran or active military If you’re interested in these ideas, or have others to share, contact Community Relations at communityrelations@ozinga.com. You can also find and share ideas on Ozinga Community.
