You helped feed thousands of children, families and seniors A NOTE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT & CEO
Our neighbors shouldn’t have to choose between feeding their children, keeping the lights on or affording prescriptions. Because of generous supporters like you, Ozarks Food Harvest helped thousands of children, families and seniors avoid those tough decisions last fiscal year. The Food Bank provided 21 million meals across southwest Missouri through our network of faith-based and community charities.
That’s incredible work, especially as food costs and demand have reached record-level highs. Rising costs in childcare, housing and food continue to put families in the Ozarks in difficult situations. Ozarks Food Harvest has responded by serving more than 70,000 of our neighbors –enough to serve the entire community of Joplin, Missouri – each month.
For more than 40 years, The Food Bank has impacted the lives of people across the Ozarks because we’re good stewards of every donation that comes through our door. Charity Navigator, America’s largest and most-utilized charity evaluator, recognized this by awarding The Food Bank our 13th consecutive Four-Star Rating in 2024, which designates us as an official “Give with Confidence” charity.
As we look toward the future, Ozarks Food Harvest remains committed to meeting the need for children, families and seniors facing hunger across the Ozarks. But to do that, we need your help.
For every dollar you donate, we’re able to provide $10 worth of groceries. And, you can rest assured that your gift is being spent wisely because The Food Bank continues to spend 96 cents of every dollar on food distribution.
Read on to learn more about the incredible accomplishments The Food Bank has achieved this year with your help. Thank you for your compassion and for helping Transform Hunger into Hope.
With gratitude,
Kenny Ross Board President

5.1 MILLION POINTS OF SERVICE
270+ TOTAL FAITH-BASED & COMMUNITY PARTNERS
THE REALITY OF HUNGER
Food is the basic need that allows us – and our communities – to thrive. The reality is food insecurity has reached record levels. Inflated costs of groceries and basic necessities have led more than 70,000 children, families and seniors to seek assistance from our network each month for over a year. With 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults facing hunger in southwest Missouri, food insecurity rates in our service area are now higher than both national and state averages.
Donations of funds, food and time make it possible for Ozarks Food Harvest to get purchased and rescued food into the hands of our neighbors facing hunger.
RETAIL DONATIONS
Food donated by grocery and retail companies.
MANUFACTURING DONATIONS

TOGETHER WE FEED THE OZARKS, ONE COUNTY AT A TIME
In FY24, donors made it possible to distribute 23.6 million pounds of food through our network. Ozarks Food Harvest also awarded $467,000 in grants for food and infrastructure, such as equipment and facility updates, so our partner charities could better serve our neighbors. That’s a total value of $44,892,799 in food and funds!

OZARKS FOOD HARVEST AND CROSSLINES CELEBRATE
33 YEARS OF FEEDING FAMILIES AND CHANGING LIVES
In May 2024, Ozarks Food Harvest donated our 10 millionth meal to Crosslines since our partnership began 33 years ago. Crosslines of Springfield is one of Ozarks Food Harvest’s partner charities and a leading food pantry in Greene County, directly serving more than 1,700 families each month. Through their partnership with The Food Bank, Crosslines distributes USDA food, Senior Boxes, fresh produce and other food items to help our hardworking neighbors put meals on the table.
Neighbors like Mike.
Mike is one of Crosslines’s most dedicated volunteers, and he’s also one of their most grateful food recipients.
Mike joined the Senior Food Box program at Crosslines after his father passed away two years ago. He had already been volunteering at the pantry for a short while, but was reluctant to ask for help because he grew up believing people only cared about you if they wanted something from you. As a retired senior himself, Mike was suddenly living on just a single fixed income after his father passed. It was the acceptance and compassion of Crosslines staff and volunteers that finally convinced him to ask for help.
“I didn’t know the kindness of people,” Mike shared. “I never grew up that way, so to ask for something was different for me. And then to find out that they actually cared about me meant quite a bit.”
Mike is one of thousands of people who get help from Crosslines every month. Partner charities like these across southwest Missouri work to ensure neighbors have access to the food they need to thrive – and it makes a big difference. Like Mike said, “It might make the difference between whether someone chooses to get medication or not, because I’ve been in that situation myself in the past couple years before I started getting the Senior Box.”
The success of our network relies on generous donors and volunteers like you. Thank you for your support of neighbors like Mike.
Ozarks Food Harvest provides 70% of the food our network of charities distributes.
WHEN CHILDREN ARE FED, FUTURES ARE NOURISHED
Getting enough food is an important first step to ensure kids achieve their goals. For many children experiencing food insecurity, they rely on school meals to keep them fed during the week. But what happens when they can’t access school meals on weekends, evenings and breaks? Your support helps Ozarks Food Harvest operate programs that ensure kids have the nourishing meals they need to thrive.
WEEKEND BACKPACK PROGRAM
The Weekend Backpack Program provides local students with a bag of nutritious, child-friendly food to take home every weekend of the school year. In FY24, more than 1,500 children were enrolled in this program, which is completely funded by generous donations from our community.
“As a teacher, when I send my students home at night and on long weekends, I can only pray that all their basic needs are being met. [Ozarks Food Harvest] allows my students to not go to bed with a hungry belly and better set them up for success in all aspects of life.”

WE SUPPORT FAMILIES AS THEY WORK TO PUT MEALS ON THE TABLE
rely on your donations to keep these programs running and improving.
Food insecurity impacts every county in our service area, and families now report needing $100 more per month to be food secure compared to last year. In addition to partnerships with charities, Ozarks Food Harvest operates direct-relief programs to reach underserved communities such as rural towns, where our neighbors experience food insecurity at higher rates than urban areas. We rely on your donations to keep these programs running and improving.
MOBILE FOOD PANTRY
Our Mobile Food Pantry program delivers groceries directly to towns where food assistance is scarce. Product is served off a truck to families and seniors facing hunger in just a couple hours. These distributions remove barriers to food assistance like limited storage at our partner charities and transportation issues.
The Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry and Senior Produce Pantry programs provided food to 54,453 people facing hunger with 879,416 meals in FY24.
Our trucks traveled 22,361 miles to more than 22 distribution sites across 11 counties.

SNAP OUTREACH
64% purchased the least expensive item even if it wasn’t the healthiest option
Ozarks Food Harvest provides application assistance to individuals applying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Applying to SNAP can seem daunting and complicated, especially when people are already facing tough times. Our SNAP outreach coordinators remove this barrier so neighbors can access the food they need. In FY24, SNAP helped provide 1.7 million meals.
64% purchased the least expensive item even if it wasn’t the healthiest option
SNAP outreach generated an estimated $9.5 million in local economic impact that supported local grocers, farmers and truckers.
“I decided to try out the Mobile Food Pantry because, at that point in time, we were struggling. I mean, you guys are lifesavers, especially towards the end of the month when we don’t have anything. You guys have just saved us so many times from not being able to feed our kids.”

FEEDING SENIORS REDUCES HARD CHOICES
Seniors are the fastest-growing demographic to face hunger. In fact, adults over age 60 now make up one-third of the people we serve. Seniors often face unique challenges that make getting the food they need harder, like mobility issues, special dietary needs and fixed incomes that aren’t keeping pace with the cost of groceries. With our aging population, we’ve prioritized programs that help seniors get the nutritious meals they need. This year, your support ensured thousands of seniors could put meals on the table.
"This food from Ozarks Food Harvest’s [Mobile Food Pantry] has helped me eat better. Like me, these people getting food today don’t really have the money to buy a lot of the food you give here. What you can’t buy, you do without."
- ROY, SENIOR NEIGHBOR
SENIOR MOBILE PRODUCE PANTRY
Donor contributions in combination with a grant from Feeding America have helped us continue our Senior Mobile Produce Pantry for the third year. With your support, we distribute boxes of protein, pantry staples and of course, fresh fruits and vegetables, to seniors in underserved counties. Thank you for helping seniors in rural communities remove barriers to good health and independence.
SENIOR FOOD BOXES
Ozarks Food Harvest partners with senior centers, churches and food pantries to distribute 4,430 boxes of USDA food to income-eligible seniors every month. Senior Food Boxes are assembled by volunteers at our distribution center and delivered to partner charities who serve local seniors directly. In FY24, volunteers assembled 50,794 boxes, providing more than 1.2 million meals to seniors facing hunger!
Senior Food Boxes consist of easy-to-prepare, nutrient-rich items like fruits, peanut butter, beans, canned meat, milk, cheese, rice and pasta.
“This food has helped me a bunch. My wife passed away a few months ago and [the food] really helped. All of the sudden, my income changed. The people here – I just love them. They are so kind.”

RESCUE AND HUNGER RELIEF GO HAND-IN-HAND
"Ozarks Food Harvest helped Least of These continue to provide services with choice and dignity during a time we were facing increased demand and cost."
– KRISTY CARTER, LEAST OF THESE
More food is produced than eaten each year, yet thousands of our neighbors still face hunger. The problem is food waste, which happens at every level of food production from harvesting to table scraps. An estimated 89 million tons of food is wasted annually across the U.S. – the equivalent of 149 billion meals.
RETAIL PICK-UP PROGRAM
Ozarks Food Harvest’s Retail Pick-Up Program rescues food from local retailers and grocers that does not meet standards for retail sales, but is still safe for consumption. As a Feeding America food bank, we follow strict food safety guidelines. Volunteers sort donated product for food safety standards before it’s distributed to our network.
In FY24, this program diverted 266 truckloads of food from ending up in local landfills and distributed it to our neighbors facing hunger.
FULL CIRCLE GARDENS
Transforming Hunger into Hope is not just about the quantity of food we distribute, but the quality of meals our neighbors can put on the table. Our Full Circle Gardens Program is crucial to increasing access to fresh, nutritious and locally-grown fruits and vegetables.
THE FOOD BANK FARM
Assisted by generous volunteers, we’re able to grow an average of 14,000 pounds of produce per year at our Food Bank Farm in Rogersville.
In FY24, The Full Circle Gardens program distributed nearly 93,000 pounds of fresh, local produce.
“I’m struck by the genuine passion [of Full Circle Gardens staff]. They told us how much we harvested and where it was going. I couldn’t believe how much we harvested in that amount of time. That’s why we started sending a group to volunteer regularly.”
- DAVE AHLSTRAND, JOHN DEERE REMAN
LOCAL FARM AND GARDEN PARTNERSHIPS
We work with more than 50 local farms and gardens who donate their extra produce for our neighbors facing hunger. Our Glean Team volunteers harvest excess crop directly from their land, and produce is immediately distributed to our network for maximum freshness. Local farms and gardens donated 55,400 pounds of produce in FY24.
GARDEN-TO-GO KITS
The Food Bank distributed nearly 9,000 Garden-to-Go Kits in FY24 to help families facing hunger in the Ozarks grow their own food. Kits consisted of seeds for vegetables, flowers and herbs, along with a planting calendar, links to gardening instructions and budget-friendly cookbooks.
PLANT-A-ROW DONATIONS
Generous local gardeners use their garden space to grow produce for our neighbors in need. By designating an extra row for Ozarks Food Harvest, local growers donated over 19,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables in FY24.
A REMARKABLE YEAR FOR VOLUNTEERS
In FY24, 3,740 volunteers generously gave 30,000 hours to help end hunger with Ozarks Food Harvest, processing 5.4 million pounds of food.
Not only are volunteers crucial to moving food through The Food Bank and into the hands of our neighbors facing hunger, their time also multiplies the impact of your dollar. The value of volunteer hours in FY24 equaled $926,000! Their time means more of your dollars go directly towards hunger-relief programs and food distribution.
69,500 pounds of local produce were harvested by the Glean Team
3.5 million pounds of rescued product and donations were sorted and packed
The hours donated by volunteers in FY24 was the equivalent of 14 FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES
“For the last nine years of my life, this has been one of the most enjoyable places I’ve been able to go.”
– DON LANDON
93-YEAR-OLD DON LANDON HONORED FOR 2,000 HOURS OF SERVICE
Don gave his time at The Food Bank for nine years to help his neighbors facing hunger. He was honored with a celebration event, a local news feature and adding his name to the 2,000 hours branch on our Gift of Time Tree.
THE LAUNCH OF THE VOLUNTEER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
Eight volunteers were selected for their passion and dedication to be Ozarks Food Harvest’s first Volunteer Ambassadors. They help Ozarks Food Harvest engage with the community by serving as representatives at events, speaking engagements and volunteer sessions. We’re lucky to have many volunteers who are so enthusiastic about our mission that they become advocates for the organization.
A DRAMATIC INCREASE IN HOPE NOTE CREATION
It’s our goal that every Weekend Backpack has an encouraging Hope Note inside for the child receiving it. Positive words of encouragement let kids know their community cares about them. In FY24, volunteers, businesses, student organizations and more took notice of this opportunity, using their creativity to make 4,830 Hope Notes for children facing hunger.
“So many people who volunteer are retired. I think it’s so important that Ozarks Food Harvest doesn’t age out of willing and enthusiastic volunteers. The Food Bank is a necessary resource for so many people.”
