Plié

Year: 2023 Supervision: Marco Citton, John Bennett Team: Pratika Patil, Andrea Pedrali Role: 3d modelling, Renders, Concept Design, Sketching

We drew inspiration from Magis’ industrial and playful roots to create Plié. Öykü Özal

Concept and Development

Selected Works 2015-2023

Plie’s design centers around a defect in the material. The design process is started by experimenting with different kinds of bends. When pushed beyond the bending limit the materials start to deform. We searched for the right bend that would provide both the necessary rigidity and the desired aesthetic quality.

Concept and Development

Selected Works 2015-2023

The design of Plie revolves around a concept that balances opposing elements, such as clean and deformed, transparent and rough, and playful and industrial. These polarities are utilized to create a unique aesthetic that combines different textures, shapes, and materials to produce a visually engaging and dynamic design. The clean and transparent elements of the design are juxtaposed with rough and deformed aspects, resulting in a piece of furniture that is both elegant and playful. This combination of contrasting elements fits well into Magis’ catalog.

Commercial aluminum tubular extrusions are utilized to create portals with three distinct types of bends. These bends are achieved by utilizing specially designed molds and employing thermal processing during the molding process. After the extrusions have been bent, a second mold is used to create dents in the material.

Plie consists of two portals as legs, connected by a tubular beam and a table top. The table top is lifted a few cms from the structure in order to create a lighter apperance.

Inclina’s design is uniquely equipped to provide support for both active and passive seating positions, making it a versatile seating option suitable for a range of settings such as homes, schools, and offices. By incorporating a forward lean feature, Inclina can help users break free from long periods of static sitting, which can cause discomfort and pain. The forward lean encourages users to engage their core muscles, improving their posture while seated. This design feature can be particularly beneficial for individuals who spend extended periods sitting, enabling them to avoid the negative consequences of prolonged sitting.
