DIR E CT O R ’S M ES SAGE With such an unusually long and cold winter now finally behind us, we look forward to Spring and Summer in Oxford! Trees and flowers are blooming and the grass is growing faster everyday! The Oxford Community Park is already in full swing with baseball and soccer bringing teams out for games and practices. Not to mention families and residents utilizing the walking paths and playgrounds more and more as the weather turns. Soon the Community Pool will add even more excitement and provide a summertime oasis for Oxford residents and neighbors, get your passes today, opening day for the pool is May 26th! The newly opened Barkham Dog Park has been welcoming many four legged friends and their humans to the most recent addition to the park system. Come out and explore for yourself and take a stroll on the nearby OATS trail where you can see the forest come alive for spring and provide some much needed shade as Summer soon approaches. With so many great events like the Oxford Bee Festival, OATS & Honey 5K/10k, and Epic Cup Soccer tournament already in the books we are gearing up to bring you more opportunities. Check our calendar for signs up and additional information on such favorites as the Fishing Derby, Ready Set, RUN!, Camp Pop and many more! Mark your calendar for the Oxford Freedom Festival on July 3rd at the Oxford Community Park, it’ll be here before you know it! OPRD staff have been hard at work preparing and maintaining the amenities, planning events, coordinating sports leagues and camps, operating the preschool, and opening up all of your park locations. Come out and enjoy all the parks and trails this summer! As the new Director of Oxford Parks and Recreation, I look forward to seeing everyone uptown and around the many park locations in the coming months. Please stop by, introduce yourself and say hello! I look forward to continuing to bring you the very best recreational opportunities in our city. Oxford is a special place, we all benefit from the commitment of local government and the community itself to emphasize green space and recreation. As a lifelong resident, I am excited and honored to serve my local community and make your parks, trails, and facilities the very best they can be.
