First performed in 2006, Hadestown has morphed into one of Broadway’s most acclaimed musicals. The experience takes the tragic Greek love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, where Orpheus travels to the Underworld to bring his beloved Eurydice back from the dead, reimagines it staged in an atmosphere reminiscent of New Orleans’ French Quarter during the Depression years, and backs it with a soundtrack of folk, jazz, blues, and gospel. The original Broadway production received eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The original cast album won a 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, singers, and dancers, Hadestown asks audiences to imagine how the world could be as they look at life through the eyes of two young people seeking love and hope where there appears to be neither.

When The Addams Family brings their creepy, kooky, upsidedown world to OPAC, audiences will see this quirky family deals with many of the same challenges faced by any other family in this Broadway-hit musical. The Addamses have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia, the patriarch and matriarch of the clan, would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now an eighteen-year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most unAddams sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner for one fateful, hilarious night! You ought to come and see ‘em, they’re really quite a scream – The Addams Family!

Sawyer Brown

BY

The 1975 meeting of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock began a friendship and one of pop music’s best-selling groups whose name came from a dream Graham had – a billboard surrounded by flashing lights and the words, Air Supply, in the center. Their first hit, “Love and Other Bruises,” opened the door to perform with Rod Stewart in 1977. They struck gold with the 1980 song of the year “Lost In Love,” then quickly topped the worldwide charts once again with “All Out Of Love,” beginning a run of seven, consecutive Top Five singles. Their first four albums sold more than 20 million copies. The trademark sound of Russell Hitchcock’s soaring tenor voice and Graham Russell’s simple, but majestic compositions created a unique sound which continues 49 years later and will bring Air Supply to the OPAC billboard for the second time since their first Oxford performance in 2019.

Sawyer Brown makes a return visit to Oxford, delivering an evening of unstoppable energy and country rock anthems that will have you out of your seat and singing along! After winning the Star Search grand prize in 1984, the band has never looked back releasing 18 albums and charting 50 times Including three number ones - “Some Girls Do,” “Thank God For You,” and “Step That Step.” In honor of Sawyer Brown's 40th anniversary, the band recently released “Get Me To The Stage On Time,” a documentary of the band's storied 40-year career. RUBATO INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION

The Rubato Competition is back in 2025

AUGUST 12-16, 2025

The Rubato International Piano Competition 2025 will feature the highly anticipated biennial competition from August 12–16, showcasing extraordinary talent from around the world. Competitors will vie for top honors, with performances judged by an esteemed panel of international jurors. As the largest piano competition in the Southeast United States, it continues to attract exceptional musicians and foster a vibrant cultural exchange. In 2024, we celebrated the Rubato Gala Concert, which showcased the 2023 competition medalists: Jordan Anderson (Michigan, USA), Zhengyi Huang (China), and Matthew Liu (Kansas, USA). This event honored their remarkable achievements and highlighted the spirit of musical excellence that defines the Rubato Competition.

Our mission for the Rubato International Piano Competition remains steadfast: to recognize and cultivate outstanding talent while fostering artistic growth and cultural exchange worldwide. This initiative is proudly supported by the City of Oxford, Alabama, and Steinway & Sons. As we continue to expand our Steinway Select Studio, we aspire to establish a prestigious international school for future generations. Music education is the foundation of our vision. By collaborating with esteemed partners and engaging with our community, we strive to inspire young musicians and enrich cultural opportunities in our region.

We invite you to join us in promoting musical excellence and cultural enrichment. To learn more about the competition or to support Rubato, visit rubatopiano.org

Each year, the Oxford Performing Arts Center welcomes over 140,000 guests from more than forty states, all coming together to experience world-class performing and visual arts. The Business Circle at the Oxford Performing Arts Center offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the arts in our community and showcase your business.

ALABAMA CHILDREN’S

MUSEUM & DISCOVERY CENTER

Our Project is picking up STEAM!

The planning and development of the Alabama Children’s Museum is moving forward with incredible momentum, marking a significant milestone in our community’s dedication to fostering creativity and learning among its youngest residents. The project has made tremendous progress, with museum design work underway and a range of interactive exhibits slated for design in the months ahead.

Community support has been overwhelming, with generous donations and enthusiastic volunteer involvement well before the location had been identified. The museum promises to be a hub of learning and discovery, providing a vibrant space where children can learn, explore, and play! As we advance, the excitement is palpable, and the vision of an extraordinary educational and cultural resource for Alabama’s children is rapidly becoming a reality. Take a look at our progress below...

GRAND OPENING! (at completion of construction)

We invite everyone with children or grandchildren as part of their family (and extended family) to be a part of something truly magical by donating to help restore and install a grand Venetian carousel in the future Alabama Children’s Museum. We had the great fortune to purchase a hand-painted, Italian-made carousel in 2020 and move it to Oxford with help from the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama and BR Williams Trucking. Your generous contributions will fund the restoration and bring to life a major feature in the museum, offering joy and wonder to children and families for generations to come. The carousel, with its beautifully crafted horses and vibrant colors, will be a captivating centerpiece, sparking imagination and creating cherished memories. We need donors to help revitalize its components such as horses, paintings, carriages, and bouquets. Your contribution will fund the restoration and installation, leaving a lasting legacy and providing joy and learning for years. We look forward to partnering with you to bring the magic of the Venetian carousel to the Alabama Children’s Museum. Together, we can create a legacy of delight and discovery for Alabama’s children. To learn more about sponsoring the restoration of a carousel horse and more, visit us at oxfordpac.org/carousel.
