My Visit with Mayor Alton Craft

My Visit with Mayor Alton Craft

By Ethan Jennings

My name is Ethan Jennings, and I am a fourth-grade student at DeArmanville Elementary School. I was supposed to meet Mayor Alton Craft during my Christmas break, but I got sick. So, on my Spring Break, I scheduled another meeting with him. I was very excited to meet our mayor finally! He showed me his office and gave me a City of Oxford medallion. After taking pictures, we sat down to talk. My first question to Mayor Craft was ‘what do you do?’ Mayor Craft explained how he works with our city departments to make our city better and safer. He told me about projects he’s working on and things he wants to bring to the city like possibly a trampoline park. He told me how he represented our city in Montgomery and to President Trump in Washington, D.C. He told me he hopes to run for re-election. He is building a place called the East Metro Area Crime Center behind City Hall, which will help our police officers protect our city and surrounding areas better. I told Mayor Craft how much I like learning about history and politics. He told me I could be mayor one day! I enjoyed meeting Mayor Craft, and I am thankful for him taking time off his schedule to meet with me. Thank you, Mayor Craft, for all you do to make Oxford a great city!
