Oxford International Song Festival

Oxford International Song Festival exists to promote and celebrate song. Each year it puts on the Oxford International Song Festival, an extravaganza of song which takes place in the last two weeks of October. Founded in 2002 with a series of seven concerts on the songs of Schubert, the Festival has rapidly established itself as one of Europe’s most significant musical events, now presenting over 500 songs at nearly 30 concerts given by many of the world’s leading interpreters of the song repertoire. There is also an emphasis on finding outstanding new talent, and as well as the many Festival concerts devoted to younger artists, Oxford Song also promotes a number of recitals year-round as a platform for young singers and accompanists at the start of their careers. An extensive education programme in local schools and numerous masterclasses take place throughout the year, and Oxford Song offers an annual scholarship to a singer or pianist going to study at music college.
