Rebndl - led by Brasenose College A customisable digital news platform, aggregating global content.

So you like the politics section from The Times? And the economy section from the FT? But you can’t afford to subscribe to both papers, and you want all of it conveniently in one place? With Rebndl, a digital news platform, you will be able to create your optimal newspaper from any section from any paid or unpaid newspaper across the world.

3DPRIMED - led by Brasenose College Bringing accessible, affordable 3D printed prosthetics to patients in developing countries

Many patients and doctors in developing countries do not have the funds for or access to expensive medical devices, such as prosthetic limbs or other body parts. And a large proportion of donated medical devices remain unused, because spare parts are often not available. Social enterprise 3DPRIMED aims to provide a number of affordable and recyclable medical devices to both health care providers (e.g. hospitals, GPs) and patients, to ensure equal access to treatment for all patients.

Instead of buying expensive medical devices from abroad, the service will teach local people to 3Dprint cheap medical devices from recycled plastic.

DECancer.AI - led by Jesus College A personalised, early-stage cancer detector powered by AI

DECancer.AI is a personalized platform to detect cancer early. Cancers are curable when diagnosed early. DECancer.AI detects early signs of cancer through artificial intelligence analysis of an affordable blood test, combined with the personalized medical history gathered from patients, allowing early treatment and cure.

AllGood! - led by Magdalen College An app-based service that remotely monitors the activity and wellbeing of aged relatives

AllGood! is a service that helps reduce the worry that families may have about older relatives who live alone. The AllGood! smartphone app monitors sounds, movements and phone use, and keeps relatives updated on how their relative is doing, so they are reassured that all is good, and notified if something goes wrong and help is required.

Coli - led by New College A smartphone app to simplify, streamline and track lab experiments

When conducting scientific experiments in a lab, things can get very complicated, and it can also be pretty tiring. You want to think about the interesting things, but lots of planning and note taking get in the way. And sometimes the simple things can trip you up. The Coli app takes care of the simple things for you. It helps you set up your experiments easily without needing to do any calculations yourself, guides you through them like a cooking recipe, and automatically records the information so you don’t have to take notes.

Immuto - led by Pembroke College A blockchain-led verification and security mechanism for documents of all kinds

Immuto provides electronic ‘stamps’ for documents, through blockchain technology. These stamps prove that the data has not been changed, has the correct author, and is accurately timestamped.

Companies can include this in their website, allowing them to be more secure, transparent, and trustworthy. Companies don’t have to understand the details of our stamping, but they get all the benefits. Stamps are very inexpensive to create and issue, allowing this to be provided for large-scale projects.

ConflictScanner - led by Pembroke College A navigation app to help people travel safely in conflict zones

ConflictScanner is a navigation app that helps people, charities and businesses to travel safely in conflict zones like Afghanistan. The free version of ConflictScanner shows the safest path to travel in conflict zones. The paid version of ConflictScanner helps organisations, like the Red Cross, to plan how they travel and where they set up their offices in conflict zones. ConflictScanner will also keep organisations aware of risks by predicting when and where a violent incident will take place in the future. You can use ConflictScanner on a phone or on a computer.

PCAid - led by Somerville College A tool to accurately identify and diagnose complex diseases, using machine learning

Certain diseases are very difficult to diagnose, especially if they look alike, or if there is a multitude of complex and diverse clinical features to consider. Using detailed clinical information from patients with a confirmed diagnosis, PCAid uses machine learning to establish the disease identity, based on complex clinical features. Now when a patient comes to the clinic, the doctor can simply enter the required clinical data and the computer can tell if the patient has the disease or not. This approach can be very useful to reduce doctors’ biases and to allow for accurate diagnosis.

SeaStrong - led by Somerville College Producing delicious seaweed-based seasoning with health-giving properties to combat iodine deficiency

SeaStrong is developing a value-added healthy seaweed seasoning that tastes great and that is made from locally sourced seaweed in India. By turning low-cost seaweed into a value-added seaweed seasoning, the project also aims to create better sustainable livelihoods in rural coastal communities that already harvest seaweed to provide a valuable public health benefit to India’s largely vegetarian and iodine deficient population, as seaweed is nutritionally potent with approved health claims promoting physical growth, cognitive function, metabolism and efficient functioning of the nervous system.

Light My Way – led by Wadham College A map-based app that helps people find the safest and best-lit route home after a night out

The Light My Way map-app helps you find the safest way home. Walking through the streets alone can often be a scary experience, especially at night or in a new location. Light My Way will route you through better lit streets and past places that are open 24/7 like hotels, so you never feel like you’re alone. The app can also detect if you are in possible danger, and provide easy ways of finding help.

Users will be able to share their location with your family and friends, so that they are aware of current location and projected arrival times.
