INTRODUCTION

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF NL) strives together with others to create a world in which people and nature flourish. The organization of the World Wide Fund for Nature consists of the departments: Conservation, Engagement, Organization & Talent Development and Finance & Operations. The Conservation department is responsible for designing, supervising and partly implementing WWF NL nature conservation projects and programs in 12 landscapes worldwide, including the Netherlands. WWF NL is one of the largest donor organizations within a worldwide network (WWF). WWF NL has an ambitious strategy, namely the realization of resilient landscapes through an integrated landscape approach, entering into strategic partnerships and driving a social movement. We want to connect with people and parties in order to achieve more impact in nature. This requires an organization that focuses, collaborates and is agile. We are looking for an expert and inspiring person to shape these ambitions.

TITLE:

Chief Conservation Officer (40 hours)

POSITION:

Zeist, Netherlands

REPORTS TO:

CEO


TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Developing, implementing and executing our nature conservation strategy • Responsible for investments in the WWF NL portfolio of national and international nature conservation projects • Ensuring accountability in planning, monitoring, evaluation and research • Contributing to the substantive integrity and reliability of WWF NL as a leading nature conservation organization • Leading 40 driven professionals with a lot of substantive expertise • Member of the MT, reports to the CEO • Represents WWF nature conservation projects in the WWF network • Participates and contributes to the global WWF conservation community and represents WWF NL views and positions within this.

WHAT WE ASK EDUCATION

Academic working and thinking level and relevant substantive training, such as ecology, environmental sciences, social sciences etc.

EXPERIENCE

An experienced professional with experience in international network organizations in a complex playing field. Field experience is an asset.

REQUIRED

A minimum of 10 years of experience with (international) nature conservation or with global issues that affect nature conservation.

DESIRABLE

Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing a department or team, demonstrable experience with change processes.

COMPETENCIES

• A coaching manager and an inspiring leader, results-oriented and guiding with a clear vision and strategy. • Strategic, with a clear vision of nature conservation and the social position of the organization. • Can work well with others and is culturally sensitive. • Excellent command of spoken and written Dutch and English. Spanish would be an asset.

WHAT WE OFFER

The World Wide Fund for Nature is a professional and dynamic organization with an informal atmosphere. We offer a salary between €75k and €100k, and we encourage the use of public transport and bicycles for commuting.
