Identifying gaps within the University’s Marketing

School of History, Politics and Philosophy Instagram development and student content. Manchester Fashion Institute developing and promoting their educational material.

Feeling a bit worried or need support.

Overview of this project

In this project, I focused on promoting student well-being services by designing and leading pop-up events to raise awareness about the University’s resources. I emphasised tone of voice, use the correct font, and layout to effectively engage students. This approach was successful, as I organised and promoted several well-being events during my internship.

What

Designed posters that were approved by marketing and head of faculties. To promote services and upcoming events

Who

The well-being content material was aimed at all students

Feeling a bit worried or need support.

Learning from this project

This project was especially rewarding because it filled a crucial gap—staff didn’t have enough time to create or promote these services and events. I saw an opportunity to step in and gather feedback from both current and former Manchester Metropolitan University students about their experiences and awareness of available services. Using that insight, I created and promoted highly effective content that boosted engagement and increased awareness among the students in the Arts and Humanities department.

These final outcomes, approved by marketing, and were displayed across all Arts and Humanities buildings. All of the posters played a key role in boosting student engagement— raising awareness about University’s services and events. Also these posters helped to encourage event participation, and prompting students to connect with their tutors and peers.

Overview of this project

This project aims to pinpoint marketing and promotional gaps within the Arts and Humanities department. By gathering student feedback, conducting on-site observations, and researching best practices, I created proposals and strategies to enhance accessibility and boost awareness across departments.

What

Providing solutions that have been presented to Senior Tutors, Program Leads and Head of Faculties that will be implemented for the years to come.

Who

This is aimed at all students that can benefit from it and creating a better experience for them. Pushing for that sense of community and belonging.

Learning from this project

I identified gaps on how departments engage with students, especially in promoting events, services, and fostering a sense of community and belonging. To address this, I observed other departments and the student union’s outreach efforts, researched effective practices, and held small meetings with students to understand what belonging meant to them. Through this project, I learned that prioritising students’ needs is essential for creating impacting, lasting initiatives.

2: Identifying gaps within the University’s Marketing in

I designed this plan to outline how student tours can run all year-round. This is broken down by months across two semesters. Through site visits and talking with students across departments, this was a key part that was missing. Offering student led tours throughout the year would ease student anxiety, boost their confidence, and give them a much better campus experience. Also, this plan will it be implemented in the next academic year.

Semester one

Mid August Early September

-The program leader, Head of Faculties, and Student Enrichment

Officer will kick-start the initiative by drafting a plan, assigning roles like student ambassadors and reps, and scheduling dates and times for launch

-Student ambassadors and student reps are presented this information from the higher up people for them to start forming a detail plan.

-Dates are set into place for each department and course.

-Detailed training is done for the student ambassadors and reps around early September on campus and doing the building tours making them feel confident

Head of campus tours

Head of campus tours

In this section the Program Leaders, Head Of Faculties and Student Enrichment Officers will all meet, discuss and plan this operation but will let the student ambassadors, and student reps lead it.

Semester two

Mid September - October

-Student ambassadors and reps take the students during freshers week and will hand out mini maps that have everything located and the even the services university offer printed on the back

-These tours will happen a few times a week to make students from all years feel confident.

-Showing the students all of the buildings that provide all sorts of services

-Allowing students to go explore the building on their own or in groups and regroup after an hour

-Sometimes, international students arrive late due to many reasons, to avoid them getting lost or late for lectures it’s best for them to book a tour when they settle in

-Some time is set away for an Q&A session

The goal is to offer several campus and building tours to enhance students’ university experience, making it easier and more comfortable for those less confident exploring on their own.

Late December

-After deadlines, students can book tours if they’re feeling anxious or need a refresher on campus locations.

-Student ambassadors and reps will offer one or two tours during winter break for any students feeling lost or uncertain.

-During Future Me Week, they can assist students in navigating the campus.

-Ambassadors and reps can meet with the Event Coordinator or with the Student Enrichment Officer to discuss successes and areas for improvement, refining the approach for open days and the next academic year.

Mid January - Early February

-At the start of semester two, students can book weekly tours to refresh their campus navigation skills.

-Student reps can guide students who haven’t yet explored workshops or computer labs, showing them around their building to help them feel more comfortable.

-International students who may arrive late can book a tour in advance, ensuring they have a welcoming guide as they settle in.

Overview of this project

The Department of History, Politics, and Philosophy wanted a design package that had guidelines for fonts, colour palette and style of content for their platform to showcase their identity, promote trips, events, services, and connect with students. After brainstorming various ideas, I found the perfect solution: developing an Instagram page and pushing out student-facing content on their LinkedIn and Facebook. This unique approach would boost student engagement and give the Department a strong presence with their identity.

What

This student-led Instagram page enables students to engage with posts, learn through reels, discover services, and attend events.

Who

The Instagram page is aimed at all levelled students that want to stay updated

Learning from this project

This project was incredibly rewarding, offering me the chance to build and shape their social media platform and craft a unique identity for both staff and the Department. While creating student-focused content was challenging at times, engaging directly with students provided valuable insights. This experience pushed me to strike the perfect balance between creativity and academia, deepening my understanding of the audience. I was extremely thrilled with the outcomes that I designed, that were promoted in person and via their social media platforms

PROJECT 3: Department of History, Politics and Philosophy Instagram development and student content. Social Media Content and design package

The colour palette prioritised contrast and visibility, ensuring accessibility for those with dyslexia or colour vision issues. The Department sought warm, neutral tones for a welcoming yet professional feel. After extensive discussions, they chose a modern, easy-to-read font to match their academic reputation. Designing the logo was key, as the Department lacked a clear identity. To work on this simple but bold designs resonated very well with staff, giving the Department the distinctive look they wanted.

Overview of this project

MFI focused on improving three key areas: promoting Connect Hub events, enhancing Study Skills, and increasing participation in Module Surveys, all aimed at boosting student engagement. This was to address their low NSS (National Student Survey) rankings, they sought our assistance in creating and promoting educational materials, including posters, stickers and social media content to support these initiatives across their department.

What

The materials I designed and posted throughout the department, presented in lectures, aimed to inspire students to recognise the impact they can have by participating in surveys and attending events.

Who

The content that was made was aimed at all levelled students. Including Foundation, Masters and PHD students

Learning from this project

This project taught me the importance of aligning content with the department’s design guidelines, especially for Connect Hub, Study Skills and Module Survey. Boosting student engagement was challenging, but brainstorming and collaborating with staff and students helped address their needs. Communicating the design vision to Program leads and Head of Faculty was at times overwhelming, but resilience and confidence helped navigate those challenges. Overall, I enjoyed the experience, refining my design skills and seeing my work showcased across the department and on Moodle was a huge achievement for me.

If you haven’t. The Connect Hub hosts weekly events for students of all backgrounds to relax, connect, and make lasting memories! Enjoy activities like Games Nights, Painting, ‘Chat and Chill,’ and more—every week during term-time.

The official Connect Hub posters drew students to events, encouraging them to explore all the University has to offer. These events helped students discover new opportunities and build a strong sense of community within the Connect Hub and their own department.
