Solivita has its very own Butterfly Garden located in the Village Center behind the Ballroom. This beautiful garden where butterflies flutter from flower to flower, was concepted by resident Dave Daubert, and is meticulously maintained by members of the Butterfly Club. Take a peaceful stroll through the garden, chat with a fellow neighbor, have a seat on the bench and enjoy the beauty of these beautiful, winged insects. Resident photos by Deborah Siladie.

August is National Wellness Month: Prioritizing You
BY JOJO DE LOS SANTOS FITNESS DIRECTOR
August is officially recognized as National Wellness Month, making it the perfect time to focus on self-care, stress reduction, and building healthy routines that support overall well-being. In a vibrant 55+ community like ours, wellness goes far beyond physical fitness—it’s about creating balance, staying connected, and enjoying a fulfilling lifestyle.
Wellness starts with the basics: staying active, eating well, and getting enough rest. Regular movement—whether through group fitness classes, walking, swimming, or simply staying active throughout the day—helps maintain strength, mobility, and independence. Just as important is listening to your body and allowing time for recovery and relaxation.
Mental and emotional well-being are equally essential. Taking time each day to unwind, practice mindfulness, or engage in activities you enjoy can significantly reduce stress and improve mood. Whether it’s reading a book, attending a social event, or spending time with friends, these moments contribute to a healthier and happier lifestyle.

Community connection plays a key role in wellness. Participating in events, educational lectures, and group activities not only keeps the mind engaged but also fosters meaningful relationships. Staying socially active has been shown to support cognitive health and overall life satisfaction.
This month, challenge yourself to make small, intentional changes. Try a new class, attend a Wednesday wellness lecture in RSF2, focus on hydration, or take a few extra moments each day to care for yourself. Wellness is not about perfection—it’s about consistency and making choices that support your longterm health.
Let August be your reminder to prioritize you. Your well-being matters, and every step you take toward a healthier lifestyle is a step in the right direction.

Cleaning Up After a Storm
SUBMITTED BY LYNN BABIN TEAM LEADER OF SOLIVITA CERT
Cleaning up after a storm can be just as dangerous as the storm itself. Here is some helpful information to keep safe after a storm, tornado or hurricane.
Before the Storm:
» Ensure your tetanus vaccination is up to date (according to the CDC, adults should receive one shot/booster every 10 years unless your doctor states otherwise).
» Scrapes or cuts from sharp debris carries risk of contracting tetanus.
» Keep hard-soled shoes and a battery-operated radio by your bedside.
» Be sure your pets are microchipped collars and name tags can be pulled off or lost if an animal gets lost.
Cleaning Up:
» Wear work boots with steel-plated toes or hard bottom shoes to avoid cutting feet on glass, metal, etc.
» Protect hands by wearing leather or thick work gloves.
» Lacerated feet/hands are one of the most common injuries after a storm.
» If you are not used to lifting heavy loads or have a heart condition, please DO NOT TRY! This is not the time to stress the heart—please ask for assistance.
» If you have lung or immune issues, it is best to let others clean debris as it could contain toxins and other materials that can exacerbate lung conditions.
SEPTEMBER REFLECTIONS
ASSEMBLY, DELIVERY & PICK-UP
» If you do clear debris, be sure to wear a mask covering both your mouth and nose.
» Use eye protection.
Pets:
» Clear a safe area outside near your door for your pet to relieve themselves.
» Keep an eye on your pets, as there could be contaminated water from runoff (chemicals from garages, trash, etc.).
» Displaced animals and wildlife may be scared and dangerous (to both you and your pets).
CERT has a list of all Polk County shelters (some pet-friendly) and we will have them available at our Open House on Monday, September 14th at 1pm in the Ballroom.
