Flags Over
Solivita
The Veterans Club established this project to display a U.S. Flag in front of every home in Solivita to recognize and celebrate selected holidays throughout the year. The club assigns a representative to place a 3’ x 5’ U.S. Flag in front of their home, in a designated location, throughout the year (Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day through 9/11, and Veterans Day). Applications are available and can be printed from SolivitaHOA.com (under Veterans Club), on www. veteransclubofsolivita.com, or you may pick up a copy at the Concierge Desk. Applications, along with your $25 check (made out to VCS), can be mailed to Veterans Club of Solivita, P.O. Box 581770, Poinciana, FL 34758. If you would like to volunteer or you have any questions, email flagsoversolivita@gmail.com or call 863-512-3655.

Vaccination Event & Project Updates By Sheri Wollschlager Club Manager
We are now in 2021 and what a busy year it has been already. We were able to get the COVID-19 vaccine administered for over 2,600 Solivita residents who are the age of 65 and older. Solivita was very blessed to have the Pod here.
• Shuffleboard courts were resurfaced. • New bleacher was installed at the Championship Tennis Court. The awnings are still on order. • Bella Viana spa was resurfaced.
Current & Upcoming Projects I want to thank CAP, CERT, Resident to Resident Resource Center, Retired Nurses Club and the Evergreen Team for your hard work in making this Vaccine Event so successful. We did a great job getting this done and in record time. When the Governor opens Donna & David Claussen at the Vaccination Event. Thank You vaccinations for those under Lifestyles! Photo by Judie Chiappone. age 65, we will be ready. Our goal is to help all of the Solivita residents get the vaccine. I can’t promise the State of Florida will be back but I can promise that our team will do our best to reach our goal.
Projects started in February and those that will run into March: • Repaired, resealed and restriped the Welcome Center and Golf parking lots. • Upgraded our fire alarm system in several Club facilities in the Village. • Trellis replacement over the golf cart parking to the right of the Riviera Spa and Fitness Center and left of The Grille. • Exterior repainting project started for the Club facilities in the Village, The Palms and The Grille. • Community Garden plot repairs. • Changing over the recreational lights at Freedom Park to LED lights will begin in March. • We also changed pool service companies; they started on February 1st.
Finished Projects
I want to thank everyone again for their support and help with the Vaccination Event. We would not have been successful without the support of many. Please continue to stay safe and healthy.
In January we finished up a few projects that were delayed in 2020 and some projects scheduled in 2021, listed below: • The trellis was installed in front of the Riviera Spa & Fitness Center. • The basketball court was relocated to Freedom Park.

Community Updates
By Rudy Bautista, LCAM Solivita Community Association Manager What a busy start to the year it has been. Can you believe it’s March already? I hope you are all safe and healthy while enjoying the last few weeks of wonderful weather before our hot/ humid summers begin.
Vaccination Event Hopefully many of you were able to take advantage of the COVID-19 vaccination program that the team put together and did such a great job with it. Such a huge team effort! This month, I just wanted to share a little of what I am working on this year.
Committees
Cart Registration Right now, the team is looking into upgrading our gold cart registration stickers with ones that can be scanned to instantly find their owners. These will have no expiration dates on them, as the material has stood up very well to our Central Florida weather. More information will come out in the following months as we narrow down the process for this extensive project.
Wood Line Cutbacks The yearly wood line cutbacks will start this month as well. This is a project that is meant to clear and keep the wood lines off the Association common property. This assures that the Floralawn crews are able to safely service our common areas as needed.
I have met with the Solivita Advisory Committee (SAC) as well as the Solivita Landscape Committee (SLC). Both of these committees had some great ideas regarding projects/needs for Solivita that they will be working to complete this year. I will be working with them to present these for final approval.
Mulching The mulching project should be fully completed within the next few weeks. We have received positive feedback about the crews and the whole process.
Courtyard Homes The pressure washing project for the Courtyard Homes is in the process and soon after completion, the paint crews will do the painting for the units that are due.
Lights at Parkway Entrance At this time, I am working with the Polk County Roadway Department to see what options we have regarding new permanent lights at our Parkway Entrance. There is a plan in the future to make this location a four way traffic light intersection. More information will be coming out regarding this and also the expansion from two lanes to four lanes on Cypress Parkway as well as Marigold South. As always, my door is open to help out all of my Solivita residents. Please feel free to come in anytime!

ARC Applications
By Tinisha Ramos Compliance Coordinator (Architectural) As many new homeowners move into Solivita, we would like to simply remind you that any changes made to the outside of the home requires prior Architectural Review Committee (ARC) approval. The ARC is part of the Association and maintains the standards established in the governing documents to help protect property values. As you inquire about what kind of documents or what additional information is needed when submitting your application, let me help by going over the most common ARC application requests we receive and what you will need to provide upon submitting.
and third Monday of every month (except for reserved holidays). Your request must be submitted no later than 4:30pm on the Wednesday prior to the meeting. Please keep this in mind when turning in an application for approval and wanting to know the outcome of such.
Although each ARC application is unique, the most common are repainting your home, landscaping, screen enclosures, fences, yard art, wall art, and extending of the walkway, just to name a few. You will need to provide the following (as needed): • Property survey (fences, pools, extending a screen enclosure, new landscape beds, curbing, extending walkways and any additions) • Picture showing color, dimensions, location, types of plants, flowers, yard art, etc. • Proposal with specifications from the vendor completing the work
However, if you have signed up for the Vantaca Homeowner site and included your email, an email with the outcome will be sent from Evergreen Lifestyles Management. You can also view your ARC application request outcome in the Vantaca portal on the Owner Dashboard main page, which will include the information shown on the example screenshot below, under “Open Issues.”
Architectural Process According to the Solivita Architectural Review Requirements (Page 6, Section 5.6), the HOA has up to 30 days to process an application.
It’s understandable that many homeowners want to know the outcome the same day that the meeting takes place, but unfortunately there is a process to follow. ARC applications are first recorded in the system, then letters are generated and mailed to the mailing address on file.
In order to access this information, log on to portal.evergreenLM.com/Home/Login. If you have any issues signing into this portal, please feel free to contact our Solivita Administrative Assistant Raj at 863-427-7124 or by email at rhanooman@ evergreen-LM.com and she will be able to assist with your log in.
Steps to Submit ARC Online • Log in to your SolivitaHOA.com account.
Subsequently, because of the large volume of ARC applications submitted, the Architectural Review Meetings are held the first

involves a complicated dynamic. Movies influence the culture they reflect. Film is an integral part of that culture ... reflecting the concerns, attitudes, and beliefs of that time. Conversely, film stars changed the way people viewed themselves and society. The flappers of the 1920’s, the depression years, the war years ... always changing, never standing still. Movies could be characterized as America’s storytellers. Not only do Hollywood films reflect certain commonly held attitudes and beliefs about what it means to be American, but they also portray contemporary trends, issues, and events, serving as records of the eras in which they were produced.

Committee Roundup Solivita FitWell Committee
With the rising temperatures we are seeing an uptick in outdoor activities and many of those use our sidewalks in the community. The FitWell Committee would like to remind all residents to be cognizant of their surroundings and not to forget to Share the Road. We ask motorists to keep the mandated law requirement when passing a cyclist, which is three (3) feet minimum. Before opening your vehicle door, check for cyclists, as well when you reverse your vehicle. Cyclists, riding on a sidewalk or crosswalk, have the same rights and duties as a pedestrian. However, riders must yield the right of way to pedestrians. For matters of safety, it is encouraged that you wear neon or fluorescent colors and something reflective when riding at any time during the day. Thank you and do not forget to watch for cyclists. Submit your ideas, likes, dislikes, wants and needs to: WellnessCommittee@SolivitaHOA.com.

Then on March 17th, celebrate the luck of the Irish with The Relics as they perform all the hits on The Grille Lawn for our St. Patrick’s Day Party from 5pm-8pm. We’ll have Corn Beef and Hash specials, along with Green Cocktails like the Shamrock Sham. Social distancing is required.
The HOA, Security, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week from residents. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Check out what the stats were in previous months, periodically airing on Channel 732. Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results.

Think about these facts: • A driver is six times more likely to have an accident when traveling at 25% above the posted speed limit. • Speeding reduces the amount of available time to avoid a crash and increases the severity of a crash once it occurs. • Speed is a choice over which the driver has complete control.

Volunteers Keep the Resource Center Going One of the significant factors in the Resource Center’s ability to address the needs of all Solivita residents is a vital and growing team of volunteers. Newer members bring a fresh perspective, while our veterans provide a deep understanding of the impact we have had and continue to have.
Linda Taylor One of the newer volunteers who is helping shape our direction is Linda Taylor, who plunged headfirst into R2R as a member of the group’s Mission Committee. Her unique perspective has helped shape the way we look at ourselves and our goals.
Vellie Branch A veteran R2R volunteer, Vellie Branch, represents the best of what R2R is about. A faithful office staffer, she views each call as a personal mission that deserves her full attention. A relentless problem-solver, she understands what residents need and goes out of her way to provide answers. R2R Resource Center 863-236-9973 SolivitaR2R@gmail.com

What Can You Do Now? Submitted by Solivita CERT
A weather (or man-made) DISASTER STRIKES in or near Solivita. Power may be out for a few days. Weather makes driving impossible. Roads may be impassible—Johnson Avenue flooded and Poinciana Boulevard washed out in 2004. Poinciana stores are without power. How do you know what’s going on? Listen to available radio (weather radio?). TV and internet will likely not work with power out. How long will your cellphone battery last? Do you have a generator and know how to use it? Is there gas for it that isn’t stale? You should start it once a month. For our concrete and stucco homes Polk County recommends sheltering-in-place; that is, staying in your home. Can you evacuate? Not likely after the fact. Evacuation routes will be crowded at best; access roads may be closed. Your evacuation option is to go as soon as you hear of the coming event. You need to plan for this. What’s your route and destination? Do you have a travel disaster kit? What about prescriptions? What about your pet—food, medicine, toys? Who will look after your home here? What do you eat? What you have at home—what you had put aside in your disaster kit. Maybe get together with neighbors and pool your supplies. How do you repair minor damage to your home? With the supplies in your disaster kit (duct tape, trash bags, plastic sheeting). You will be very lucky if you can find such supplies in stores after the event occurs. What do you do about more serious damage to your home? Take

photos before you touch anything and notify your insurance company as soon as communications are restored. Keep important papers in a water-tight container in case there is water intrusion in your home. Do you have special needs (e.g., oxygen)? Have you registered with the County? They will come and transport you to an appropriate shelter ahead of time, but not likely after the situation has hit. How do you let family know you are OK? Notify an out-of-area family/friend contact about your situation. Don’t call everyone or your cell battery will run down; let them do it. Arrange with that contact person ahead of time to be able to handle this issue. SUPPOSE THE EVENT IS A TORNADO TONIGHT without warning. Are you ready today? BOTTOM LINE: • YOU NEED A PLAN NOW—stay or evacuate to where? Who will inspect your home? • You need a DISASTER KIT NOW with some tools, flashlights and some inexpensive supplies. • You need FOOD AND WATER NOW for at least 3 days. NOW IS THE TIME TO GET YOURSELF READY. YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO WAIT. This information is provided by your Solivita Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to assist our residents in preparing for such an event. More information can be found on SolivitaHOA.com > Get Connected > Clubs > C-D-E > CERT > Documents.

March in Solivita
By Brad Thompson Branch Manager, Floralawn March is a great month when our Floralawn crews can focus on landscaping tasks other than mowing and trimming. The turf grass around Solivita is still dormant and shrub growth is slow at this cooler time of the year. We enjoy the change of activity and temperature!
February and March Tasks As mentioned in last month’s Reflections article, we started pruning the crape myrtle trees that grow throughout Solivita. This job takes us a full two months to complete, so you will continue to see Floralawn crews working on this task until the end of March.
outside, enjoying working on plants around your houses or in your courtyards. Please keep an eye out for snakes. Common snakes around Solivita include the Black Racer and the Black Rat Snake. These are not venomous, but they can slither away suddenly and give you a surprise. Sometimes snakes will curl up inside planters and containers, so be alert. Don’t reach into a container without checking inside it first.
This month we will complete the task of changing out the annuals in all common area beds. Solivita residents always enjoy the fresh pops of color at this less green time of year.
Most snakes around Solivita are not venomous, but it pays to be careful. Do be alert for coral snakes. They are colorful and striped: red, yellow, and black. The harmless Kingsnake looks similar, but its stripes are red, black, and yellow. This little saying can help, if you see a brightly colored striped snake and wonder it’s the venomous or harmless one: “Red on black, safe for Jack. Red on yellow can kill a fellow.” Last month we completed the installation of the new irrigation computer, along with our regular annual irrigation audit (inspecting the system and repairing spray heads and correcting spray patterns).
Questions? Call us at 863-225-9569. Or stop by our office in the Admin building in downtown Solivita and talk to Yennifer. Enjoy the beautiful weather of this month! Summer and its heat will soon be upon us!
In the February Reflections article, we mentioned landscaping training classes that we have offered Solivita residents in years past. These classes covered a variety of topics. Because of COVID-19 concerns, we are not offering these classes this year.

Spa Talk: Boost Your Immune System Naturally Submitted By Crystal Bethea Owner, Riviera Spa Massage
Has your immune system been working overtime? If so, you might want to give it a boost by seeing one of our massage therapists, trained in lymphatic drainage therapy and our IV technicians. The lymphatic techniques can boost your immunity by increasing the production of antibodies, stimulating circulation, moving congestion out of the body, and reducing swelling while the Vitamin C/Myer’s IV therapy boost by induction of its anti-viral, antioxidant properties. The lymphatic system supports our body’s immune function and involves several organs, glands, and tissues, hundreds of lymph nodes, and a network of vessels. A clear lymph fluid flows through these vessels and carries the metabolic waste (bacteria, dead cells, fats, fluids, proteins, and viruses) to the lymph nodes, where it is filtered. These nodes often swell when we are sick. The lymphatic drainage techniques used by massage therapists and bodyworkers gently stimulate lymph nodes, help correct swelling and stagnation in those nodes, reduce local fluid retention, boost the overall immune system, and provide relaxation. As an essential tool in the treatment of lymphedema (excess lymphatic fluid), this therapy is often applied postoperatively and can be especially beneficial for breast cancer patients.
Myer’s IV (the Gold Standard) typically a combination of Vitamins C, B Complex, B5, B6, B12, Folic Acid, Calcium and Magnesium (blended with sterile water or saline). This is for anyone who wants to improve on maintaining their overall health. Individuals under chronic stress, students, those with compromised immune status, seniors, etc. Some of the symptoms a Myers Cocktail can help relieve (but not limited to): • Fatigue and Low energy • Seasonal Allergies, Asthma, Sinusitis • Eczema, Acne and other skin conditions • Migraines • Hormonal imbalance • Poor memory and concentration • Stress, Anxiety and Depression • Muscle spasm and pain, Muscle recovery and endurance • Arthritis and Chronic Pain • Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue syndrome • Hangover Treatment
Vitamin C and Myer’s IV Therapy Lymphatic drainage is one way to give your wellness a boost in a busy world that makes many demands on your immune system. Intravenous (IV) Vitamin C has emerged as one of the other alternatives for this purpose. There have been studies as to the effects of IV Vit-C on the immune system response. It’s antiviral properties specifically address the cytokines’ storm characteristic of the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) that occur in the later cycle of the COVID-19 infectious disease as well. Take a look at Vitamin C IV benefits: • Cold and Flu – Shortens both severity and duration of illness • Wound healing – Useful for post-cosmetic surgery cases • Depression – Vitamin C helps raise neurotransmitter levels • Fatigue – Revitalizes, boosts energy • Allergies – Vitamin C has antihistamine properties • Certain neurological conditions • Alternative Cancer Therapy

The Chef’s Corner
By Chef Curtis Hillard CEC, CPC Executive Chef, Stonegate Golf Club Hello again! I’m keeping the healthy theme going this month. Did you know acai berries are touted as a superfood with anti-aging and weight loss properties? Do they live up to the hype?
What is the Acai Berry? The acai berry is an inch-long, reddish-purple fruit. It comes from the acai palm tree, which is native to Central and South America. Some studies show that acai fruit pulp is even richer in antioxidants than cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, or blueberries.
so far, acai berries have no known health benefit that’s different from similar fruits.
Can Acai Berries Boost Weight Loss? Some weight loss products tout acai, but few studies have tested whether acai promotes weight loss. There’s no doubt that berries and other fruits are a key part of any healthy diet. The jury’s still out on whether there is something special about acai’s ability to help shed excess pounds.
Why are Acai Berries Used in Beauty Products? Some cosmetics and beauty products include acai oil because of its antioxidants. Acai oil may be a safe alternative to other tropical oils used in beauty products, such as facial and body creams, anti-aging skin therapies, shampoos, and conditioners. When acai oil is processed and stored long-term, the antioxidant levels remain high.
Do Acai Berries and Acai Juice Have any Side Effects? If you have pollen allergies or are sensitive to acai or similar berries, you may want to avoid this fruit. When eaten in moderate amounts, though, acai is likely safe.
What are the Health Benefits of Acai Berries? People eat acai berries to address various health conditions, but
