REFLECTIONS | JUNE 2024 3 Solivita Information

Change Happens - Part 2...More Updates

In my article in last month’s Reflections newsletter, we announced some changes happening within the Activities Department. The Activities’ Team tries their absolute best to get creative and adapt to make the changes as seamless as possible and keep you informed before they are implemented. Let’s dive right in.

Mosaics Venue

The Mosaics venue will soon be changing to a food and beverage (F&B) establishment TuesdaySunday and the Mosaics calendar reflects the blocked days and times.

Monthly Club Ticket Sales

With Mosaics blocked for F&B Tuesday through Sunday, monthly Club Ticket Sales will move to the 1st Monday of every month starting on Monday, June 3rd. This will include the 1st Monday in September, also known as the Labor Day holiday. This change will keep it on an easier and more consistent schedule for all to keep track (as before it was on the 1st business day of the month).

Mosaics Club Potluck Change

Due to Mosaics changing from a multipurpose facility to a F&B establishment, club or neighborhood group potlucks will no longer be permissible at this venue. We are contacting clubs with a potluck event to do our best in finding an alternate venue if available.

Karaoke Tuesdays

In last month’s article we announced the implementation of the $7 general admission table ticket fee to cover most of the costs associated with this event. In exchange, the ticket includes entertainment and one wine or beer, or two sodas, tax, and gratuity. We had announced last month that we would sell tickets online and in advance for Karaoke, but we are going to try accepting the admission ticket at the door only on a first-come basis through cash or check. A wrist band will be provided to help us maintain the fire code

seating capacity of 86 people. We ask with this new change to be respectful to the staff and volunteers at the door as they are performing their job. As a reminder, we moved the Karaoke and Trivia schedules to the Event Pages located on the back of the tri-fold monthly calendar insert.

August 2024 Ballroom Dates Available

A renovation project that blocked the first 10 days in August 2024 has moved to another time due to the contractor’s schedule. Therefore, several dates have become available to schedule a club or neighborhood event or a private event using our on-site catering team. Remember, clubs and neighborhood groups are limited to one special event a month and the Ballroom requires a minimum of 100 attendees. Clubs and neighborhood groups may send an online resident event request form by going to SolivitaHOA.com – Calendars and Maps – Solivita Room Calendars or stop by the Activities office. To book a private party, contact the Banquet Manager at banquets@ stonegategolf.com.

Online Ticket Sales Website

It was also announced last month that there would be a new Activities Events Ticket Sales website that can accept credit cards online! You also have the option to reserve the ticket online and select to pay by check (as we are striving to go cashless). If you select to pay by check, bring it to the Activities office during office hours; however, credit card payment is the preferred payment method. Please note that June events will be available through the old ticket sales website and July events will be available through the new ticket sales website. Links for each month’s ticket website will be posted and available where it currently is, on the SolivitaHOA.com Home Page. As new technology and changes are made, please be patient with us. We welcome constructive critiques so we may review if tweaks may be needed.

Wednesday Lunch Food Truck

In 2020, we implemented a weekly Wednesday food truck from 11am-1pm in the Solivita Market Area. However, due to low sales, we’ve eliminated this from the Activities Events calendar as they require a minimum of sales every week.

New Activities Team Member

Please welcome our newest person to the Activities Team:

Hello, my name is Katherine Sierra and I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I moved to Florida in November 2021 and have been loving every bit of it! My husband and I decided to move to Florida to give our two boys the best life we can. I am currently in school studying to be an Ultrasound Technician. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and expanding my nail technician experience, as well as any outdoor activities with my family. I am a volunteer at my church and I love to help people. I am very thankful to be a new addition to the Solivita Club Team, and I look forward to meeting every one of our loved residents. Stay blessed!

SPEED ENFORCEMENT

The HOA, Security, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week from residents within the Solivita community. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results.

Six Months into 2024!

The month of June is here, and we’re almost halfway through the year. Do not despair, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the year. You can start with the important dates and things going on in the area this month.

Important Dates

» Show respect to our flag, its designers and makers on Friday, June 14th for Flag Day.

» Father’s Day: Sunday, June 16th

» Thursday, June 20th is the “Summer Solstice,” which is the longest day of the year.

Bite30

Who doesn’t want to try out new restaurants without paying full price? Well, this is your opportunity! Bite30 highlights the best local restaurants and chefs driving central Florida’s culinary scene. Take advantage of prix fixe menus offering multicourse dinners at a set price of $35 from June 1st through July 7th. Please visit bite30.com for more information and to view participating restaurants.

Silver Spurs Rodeo

You can enjoy the 153rd Silver Spurs Rodeo located at 1875 Silver Spur Lane in Kissimmee on Friday, May 31st at 7pm or Saturday, June 1st at 7:30pm. Ticket prices range from $15 per person to $35 per person depending on the seat locations. Please visit silverspursrodeo.com to purchase tickets and for more information.

Southern Hill Farms Sweetcorn Festival

The Southern Hill Farms Sweetcorn Festival will be running June 8th and 9th (located at 16651 Schofield Road in Clermont). If you like sweetcorn, then you can enjoy their harvest and festival fun, including live music by Thompson Browne Band, petting zoo, sunflower maze, farm wagon rides, corn contests, cooking demonstrations, photo ops, photo booth, and more! Visit southernhillfarms.com to purchase tickets and more information.

Coquina Beach

Coquina Beach is at 2650 Gulf Drive in Bradenton Beach. I always go to this beach because there is a café, gift shop, restrooms, picnic tables, outdoor showers, free parking, and of course, clear water. The only downside to this beach is that it’s 2 and ½ hours away, but that does not stop me. Please visit mymanatee.org for more information.

The year is flying by so make sure you are a good pilot and navigate yourself to some awesome destinations.

Disaster Preparedness for CERT and for You!

Solivita CERT works year-round to be prepared for a large-scale emergency, such as weather related or man-made emergencies where Polk County Fire Rescue resources are stretched thin and response times may be lengthy. In our area, we worry about hurricanes and tornados. Other natural events are less likely. Floods in Solivita are mitigated by the many retention ponds. However, street flooding may occur. Non-weather-related events, such as wildfires, chemical or gas spills, transportation accidents, flu pandemics or terrorist events, can also occur.

Our Efforts for Disaster Preparedness:

» Basic FEMA training taken by our membership

» Refresher training at our monthly meetings

» Advanced topic training by Polk County Fire Rescue

» Drills

There are county-wide disaster drills and Solivita CERT runs its own disaster drills, which we completed on April 20th. We set up our command post, communications center and medical triage area, and we sent out two Search & Rescue teams looking for nine victims. This drill allows us to practice our radio communications skills, map reading, building searches, basic first aid skills, documentation of incidents and evaluation of our performance. We are always looking to improve our training and practicing of skills.

JUNETEENTH FREEDOM DAY

Celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people. The holiday was first celebrated on June 19, 1865, where enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.

Basic Preparations for the Average Citizen

Our main objective is to train for a disaster, but we also try to prepare our residents for disasters.

Be Informed:

» Listen to the news and follow developing storms

» Register at alertpolk.com for updated, accurate information for our area

» Have a weather radio and extra batteries, as we may lose power

Have a Plan:

» Shelter-in-place is recommended for our homes

» If you choose to evacuate, where will you go? Who will you inform? Who will look after your home during and after a storm?

Prepare a Disaster Kit:

» Food and water for seven days

» Essential tools and supplies - tarp, rope, gloves, flashlight and extra batteries

» Check back issues of Reflections or SolivitaHOA.co m for CERT articles detailing specifics of a kit

JUST WAITING IS NOT PREPARING!!!

Only you can prepare for your needs. This information was provided by your Community Emergency Response Team.

Special Announcement: June Meeting

On Monday, June 10th at 1pm in the Starlite Ballroom, CERT will have the presentation, “Snakes in Central Florida,” the good ones and the bad ones. This meeting is open to all residents of Solivita at no charge. Please come and join us for what should be a very informative and interesting presentation.

SOLIVITA ID CARDS

For lost or broken ID cards and ID card renewals, please contact Wilman De Jesus at 863-427-7137 or Wilman. DeJesus@CastleGroup.com to make an appointment for a new card.
