The Holiday Season is Here!
“Welcome to Esplanade at Westview!” I know I will always remember the first time I heard those words, and I am honored to be part of the team that welcomes new arrivals and Members to the community. For those that I have not had the opportunity to meet – My name is David, and I recently joined your management team as the Lifestyle Manager of our community.
I come from a diverse background of roles in the hospitality industry over the last 20 years. This experience ranges from Cruise Director on cruise ships around the world to Tour Guide, Restaurant Manager and Activities Manager; and I’m excited to bring this experience to my new role. I have already met many of our Members and look forward to connecting with you all as opportunities arise.
It’s a thrilling time to be joining the team as the growth of Esplanade at Westview continues to build; and as we move into the holiday season, I am excited to be putting together an event calendar to embrace the festive season and start to build some annual traditions that our Members can look forward to year after year.
So, break out your flannels, deck the halls, start baking your holiday cookies, dust off you “Ugly Sweater,” and get ready to put your gingerbread construction skills to the test as we prepare for a joyful holiday season!

With more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, David Townsend is excited to be joining the Esplanade at Westview team and brings his unique energy to the Lifestyle Manager role.
Originally from Australia, David is the middle of seven children and grew up on a farm near a small country town in “the middle of nowhere” (Feel free to open google maps and look up Molong NSW Australia) before moving to Brisbane, Queensland - Approximately 600 miles north of Sydney.
After school David set a course for adventure and set off to explore the world. He spent 5 years working on cruise ships and sailing around the world. Between work and leisure, he visited 6 continents and 48 countries….. and then a new chapter was calling his name.
David left behind the high seas and settled in Central Florida where he has worked in Hospitality and Entertainment roles for more than a decade. He has worked for companies like Disney, Hilton and the Orlando International Airport. David has a passion for music and has even learned how to DJ which he sometimes does as a side hustle.
Although his journeys have taken him around the world, David will tell you that his greatest adventure started the day that he became a father. A proud #GirlDad, David has two little girls Charlotte (9) and Victoria (6) and is always ready to regale you with a story of their latest achievements.
David allows his passion for discovery to lead his taste buds to some interesting locales and is keen to try new cuisine and flavors (happy to take a recommendations). He is always ready to swap a story and looks forward to sharing some…… and creating some new ones, with those that call The Esplanade at Westview home!

Brian: Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Government and the U.S. Navy who retired last month after 34 years.
Heidi: Former analyst for the Federal Government, as well as a former Regional Property Manager. Heidi enjoys everything Disney, travel, her family and all things holidays!
AQPatricia: Retired 1st Grade Teacher who was married for 30+ years to a U.S. Air Force Colonel and Pilot who served in Vietnam. She loves reading on our new lanai, the beautiful Florida weather and used to enjoy playing Golf & Tennis in her earlier years.
Alexandra (“Alex”): Fun-loving, compassionate pet sitter and walker. She’s a Disney enthusiast, music connoisseur and avid electric bike rider.
Where are you from and what brought you to Esplanade?
It’s hard to say where we are all from, since we all were either military spouses, military children or both. Patricia has resided in Florida, South Carolina and Maryland for the past 25 years. Brian, Heidi & Alex (along with their youngest daughter Jenna) lived in Maryland for the past 24 years. Prior to that the family was stationed in various states. Brian grew up mostly in the midwest, while Heidi
grew up mostly overseas in Japan and Scotland, with a few years in the U.S. for school.
What are some things you like to do on a day off?
Heidi and Alex enjoy visiting the Disney Parks, traveling and sightseeing.
Do you have any hidden talents that might surprise people?
• Alex can rap a great Eminem song! She’s also an amazing singer....who loves to Karaoke.
• Heidi has an eidetic memory.
• Brian’s hidden talent is playing golf.
What is your favorite holiday?

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with Sage & Brown Butter
Prep Time: 20 min | Cook Time: 60 min | Serving Size: 6
This warm, seasonal soup is perfect for November and December gatherings. Its smooth, creamy texture and subtle nutty flavor from brown butter make it a cozy, elegant starter. Plus, it’s vegetarian-friendly and easy to make ahead for lunch or dinner.
INGREDIENTS
» 1 large butternut squash (about 2–3 lbs), peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch cubes
» 2 tablespoons olive oil
» Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
» 1 medium onion, chopped
» 2 cloves garlic, minced
» 4 cups vegetable broth
» 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
» 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
» 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
» 8–10 fresh sage leaves
» 1/2 cup heavy cream or half-and-half (optional)
DIRECTIONS
1. Roast the Squash: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss the butternut squash cubes with 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 25–30 minutes, or until tender and lightly caramelized.
2. Cook Aromatics:
In a large pot, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
3. Combine and Simmer: Add the roasted squash, vegetable broth, nutmeg, and cinnamon to the pot. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
4. Blend: Using an immersion blender (or carefully in batches with a regular blender), puree the soup until smooth and creamy. Return to the pot and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
5. Brown the Butter and Sage:
In a small skillet over medium heat, melt the butter until it turns golden brown and fragrant. Add the sage leaves and sauté for 1–2 minutes until crispy.
6. Serve:
Ladle the soup into bowls and drizzle with brown butter and sage leaves. Add a splash of cream if desired. Serve warm with crusty bread for a cozy, festive touch.
