Furry Friends Meet Chulo
LOVED BY AUSTIN BARBIC
How long has your pet been a part of your family? He has been with me for two years.
What breed/type is your pet? Beagle/Corgi mix.
How old is he and when is his birthday?
Chulo is about three years old. His exact birthdate is unknown, so I celebrate his “gotcha” day on January 23, 2023.
Sibling names or is your pet an only child?
He’s an only child but shares a home with a grumpy old Schnauzer named Hans.
When you travel does he travel with you?
Yes! Chulo loves car rides and perches on the center armrest as my co-pilot. He also enjoys riding in a backpack on adventures.
What is his favorite treat?
Bananas, blueberries, sweet potatoes, baby kale, and baby spinach.
What are a few amazing qualities about your sweet pup?
He’s my loyal best friend, full of love and energy. He’s fast, protective, and a total snuggle bug. Gentle but goofy, he’s a mix of Scooby and Scrappy-Doo!
Tell us a fun story involving your pet.
Chulo was a foster fail. I was fostering him for a friend, but when we met for the handoff, Chulo escaped and sprinted four blocks down

Central Avenue. Cars stopped, people panicked, and I ran after him, shouting, “Where’s Chulo?!” The moment he saw me, he jumped into my arms, licking my face with pure joy. That’s when I knew he was meant to be mine.
WANT TO FEATURE YOUR PET?
Contact your Lifestyle Manager to be featured in the next edition of the Lifestyle Magazine. Answer a few questions about your furry, feathery, or scaly friend and share a couple pictures.

The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. Why did you choose Palmetto, Florida/Esplanade at Artisan Lakes? Is your residency full-time or part-time? If part-time, where else do you spend your time?
AQI chose Palmetto as I lived in Bradenton many years ago and loved the area. My parents retired here. I’m a fulltime resident. However, we do go back to the Adirondack Mountains occasionally. I am an Event Planner and will be doing a wedding there in September.
How long have you lived at Esplanade at Artisan Lakes? We have lived here for eight years, seven of those full time.
What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Lifestyle has so many great programs to attend. My favorites are the social events. I enjoy the Ladies Luncheon group. For classes, I would like to get back to Sit and Train. It’s a great class. I love crafts, cooking, and Pamela Horton’s classes. I am in the Oenophile Club and serve as President of the Golf Cart Club. Hobbies: I like to decorate for holidays and enjoy helping decorate the Amenity Center.
Tell us about your family and current or past professions. My son and granddaughter live in Bradenton. I have a daughter and two grandsons in the Adirondack Mountains. My sister, Rebecca Preminger, also lives in our community.
My past career was an Event/Wedding Planner in the Adirondack Mountains of NY for 25 years. It’s still in my blood to help with planning and executing events and parties.
What is the best advice you have ever received or given? My parents always taught us to be nice and kind to others.
Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable?
The most memorable trip was to the Ausable Club in NY. I was rowed in by Mr. Din in an old-time guide boat to the Lower Ausable Lake, then walked a mile and continued by boat to the Upper Ausable Lake, staying at a private camp. It was so quiet, and the beauty of nature was so breathtaking I thought I was in heaven. Our Adirondack guide cooked steaks on an open fire and blueberry pancakes for breakfast. The wine was also good and no phones or electricity!
Tell us something that might surprise people. I was once a flight attendant.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I feel very blessed to be in this friendly, fun community and have my wonderful partner, Mr. D., to share it with.

Create a Certified Wildlife Habitat®

You don’t need acres of land to support wildlife—a small container garden can make a big impact! The National Wildlife Federation offers tips for creating native plant container gardens that attract pollinators, perfect for balconies, decks, courtyards, or even window boxes. We recommend you use a combination of many planters in your container garden. The more containers you have, the more native plants you can include! Plus, you can use various sizes, heights, and styles of pots which add visual interest. For more information and how to get started, visit www.nwf.org/ContainerGarden
