Letter From the Lifestyle Team

Summer Relaxation is Here!

The warmth of July brings even more sunshine, laughter, and moments to connect as a community. This month is full of exciting ways to come together!

For our youngest Members and their families, we’re thrilled to host Musical Motion for Kids on July 14 & 28. This playful, interactive class is perfect for parents or caregivers and children 5 and under. Through music, movement, and fun, little ones will build early literacy, motor, and social skills while bonding with you. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet other families and pick up great tips from expert Parenting Educators.

To wrap up the month with a splash of island magic, don’t miss our Hawaiian Luau Party on July 26! Join us for a tropical celebration featuring festive décor, island-inspired bites, and feel-good music. DJ Lou will keep the energy high all evening long! So bring your aloha spirit and enjoy a relaxing, fun-filled evening with friends and neighbors.

I love seeing our community come together in joyful ways like these, and I can’t wait to celebrate all that July has to offer with you!

How long has your pet been a part of your family? Since April 2021.

What breed/type is your pet? Bandit is a French Bulldog.

How old is he and when is his birthday? Bandit is four years old. He was born on February 11, 2021.

Sibling names or is your pet an only child? He’s an only child.

What is his favorite treat? Anything his mother gives him!

What are a few amazing qualities about your sweet pup? Bandit can turn on “fun time” at the drop of a hat.

Tell us a fun story involving your pet. Bandit is always ready to take a car or golf cart ride no matter what he’s doing. Unless, of course, he’s eating. That’s his #1 priority.

The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.

Why did you choose Palmetto, Florida/Esplanade at Artisan Lakes? Is your residency full-time or part-time? If part-time, where else do you spend your time?

AQI lived in Parrish for 20 years before joining the Esplanade team when the community first opened. I had the pleasure of teaching line dancing and supporting a variety of fun activities. After two and a half wonderful years, I decided to make Esplanade my permanent home, which meant I could no longer be an employee. But because I truly love teaching line dancing, I happily transitioned into sharing that passion with fellow Members instead!

How long have you lived at Esplanade at Artisan Lakes? Five and a half years.

What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Are you in a club? Do you attend any classes/clinics? Also, tell us your hobbies.

I enjoy line dancing and actively participate in many Member clubs, including card games and the ladies’ luncheons. Ballroom dancing is my true passion.

Tell us about your family and current or past professions. My dogs are truly my family. In fact, I always say I bought the big house for them; I just open the door for them! While I don’t have children of my own, I cherish the time I spend with my siblings, nieces, and nephews. Before retiring, I enjoyed a 31-year career with Kraft Foods, where I worked as a sales representative and area marketing director.

What is the best advice you have ever received or given? Listen first, speak second.

Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable?

France (several cities); I had the opportunity to travel, within the country, with a friend that lived there. We were able to see things/places that normal tourists do not experience. We enjoyed how the locals lived.

Tell us something that might surprise people. I was a baton twirler.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I started out in Esplanade teaching Members line dancing and continue to this day. We run classes at various times of the week for beginners and experienced dancers. To join line dancing, please email tkelley@tampabay.rr.com.

Mermaids of the Sea

National Wildlife Federation teams up with LG Electronics (LG) for an ongoing campaign to highlight vulnerable and endangered species, such as the West Indian Manatee (including its two subspecies the Florida and Antillean Manatees). Currently, the biggest threats to manatees are boat collisions and loss of their primary habitat—warm water coastal ecosystems that provide seagrass beds. Additionally, entanglement in fishing gear and toxic algal blooms are also impacting manatee populations.

Test your knowledge and learn fun facts about the beloved “Mermaid of the Sea.” To learn more, visit blog.nwf.org/2025/04/manatees-the-mermaidsof-the-sea

Small Steps to Feel Your Best

August is National Wellness Month, and there’s no better time to refocus on your health and self-care—especially here in beautiful Central Florida, where sunshine, salty air, and natural beauty are right outside your door. Whether you’re a busy professional, a retiree enjoying paradise, or juggling summer break with the kids, wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few simple tips and tricks to help you feel your best all month.

WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN (EVERY DAY!)

Living in the Sunshine State means your skin is constantly exposed to strong UV rays, even on cloudy days. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily—and don’t forget your ears, neck, and tops of feet!

HYDRATE SMARTER

With Florida’s heat and humidity, dehydration can sneak up fast. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water daily and boost your hydration with fresh fruit-infused water or herbal wellness drops for flavor and added nutrients.

MOVE WITH INTENTION

Whether it’s a morning beach walk, a yoga class, or a dip in the pool, regular movement helps reduce stress, boost mood, and support overall health. Just 20–30 minutes a day can make a big difference.

DON’T SKIMP ON SLEEP

Summer schedules can be hectic, but restful sleep is crucial for mental and physical health. Create a relaxing bedtime routine and aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

TREAT YOURSELF KINDLY

Self-care is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Whether it’s a spa treatment, a quiet moment with a good book, or simply saying “no” to unnecessary stress, prioritize yourself this month.

National Wellness Month is the perfect reminder that small, consistent actions can lead to lasting change. Start with one or two of these habits, and watch how your energy, mood, and overall wellbeing improve.
