Letter From the Lifestyle Team

Your Lifestyle team has put together an array of amazing experiences for you to enjoy throughout the next few months, including live music on the lanai with the Aloha Sharks Band and a spectacular Let’s Glow Pickleball Social in June!

We look forward to our second Signature Event of the year, Esplanade in Bloom that takes place on Saturday, May 11 from 2 - 5 p.m. The weather will be lovely, and you will have a great opportunity to meet many of your neighbors!

Esplanade at Artisan Lakes currently has 25 active groups. We have several new Member-run clubs that have been thriving, including Veterans Meeting Veterans, Golf Club, Social Bocce, Pinochle and Samba Card Club! We are so thankful for all the time and effort all of our Group Leaders put into making their clubs the best experience. We appreciate each and every one of you!

Where were you born?

I was born in Bryan, Ohio, which is home of the Dum Dum Sucker as well as the Etch A Sketch.

What are your hobbies?

Wood working, golf, cooking, and feeding fish offshore.

What are you most thankful for?

My family! Especially watching my sons go to State in Cross Country and traveling with my family to Europe, Hawaii, and on ski trips.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishments include raising two intelligent, fun loving, and athletic sons as well as starting and growing a successful roll-off business in Pinellas County.

What do you enjoy most about Esplanade at Artisan Lakes?

That’s easy. The Members! Everyone has been friendly, helpful, and appreciative.

Walk MS

In March, a group of 24 Members from our community participated in Walk MS 2024 at Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL. Together they raised over $5,300 toward research and programs, with the goal of a world free of MS! Congratulations to everyone who participated. This is a huge accomplishment!

We know that our Members are passionate about connecting with the local community through philanthropic opportunities and charitable giving. We would love to share the ways you are making our community a more positive place, as well as ways Members can get involved. Tell us about it so we may highlight your efforts in future publications. Why did you choose Esplanade at Artisan Lakes and how long have you lived here?

AQWe both grew up just outside the Boston area. Although we did not live in the same tow, Dottie lived in Waltham, and I lived in Watertown. Both towns are right next to each other, and we met through a friend of Dottie’s. I was preparing to join the US Airforce and Dottie was completing her last year of high school. We dated all through her last year of high school and married after my return from Korea.

We spent a total of eight years in the Air Force and then returned to Massachusetts. In early 1987, we sold our Trucking company, packed up the kids and moved to Treasure Island Florida.

Dottie worked in banking, and I worked in the automotive industry managing an automotive dealership.

December 2018 came around and it was time to downsize. As luck might have it, we finally found Esplanade at Artisan Lakes. No restaurants, no golf course, and low monthly dues. Then we made an appointment to meet with Vince

and it got even better! We moved in April of 2019 and just as the story goes, we live Happily ever after!

What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in?

A few highlights of why we love Esplanade Artisan Lakes are Sit and Train fitness classes, yoga, crafts, wine tastings, meditation, and bingo. Should we go on? Book club, Travel club and Veterans meeting Veterans Group. This is truly the place that everyone can call home and have plenty to do or not. This is the best gated community we could find in our chosen area between Tampa and Sarasota.

Tell us about your family and current or past professions. Dottie served as a Branch Manager for five banks, and during that time, cell phones became essential. Alongside managing four dealerships, our main daily dilemma revolved around coordinating our schedules and finding the nearest restaurant for dinner.

Moving here early in our lives has been a wonderful decision. Our son, daughter, and grandchildren live nearby, while our granddaughter is just an hour and a half drive away during the summer, along with our great granddaughter.

What is the best advice you have ever received or given?

Dottie: “Watch out for what you ask for because it might not be what you really want.”

Jim: “Never be the smartest person in the room, and remember you have two ears and one mouth use them two to one.”

Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable?

On one of the many times we visited Las Vegas, we flew by helicopter during the day around the Grand Canyon and then down inside the canyon for a hearty steak lunch at a working dude ranch. After returning to the airport and switching helicopters, we enjoyed a scenic flight back to Las Vegas Strip, complete with an Elvis impersonator serenading us and highlighting the city’s most iconic landmarks. It was truly a fantastic day!

Dottie and I hope everyone that reads this enjoys Esplanade at Artisan Lakes as much as we do! Life is short make the most of it.

Mardi Gras Soiree SIGNATURE EVENT

Our first Signature Event of 2024 had about 450 Members in attendance! The weather was perfect, and everyone had a blast!

Furry Friends Meet Lovebug

What breed is your pet, how old is she and how long has your pet been a part of your family?

Lovebug is a Yorkshire Terrier mix. She is a rescue from Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan. While I don’t know her exact birth date, she was given a birth date of August 6, 2020, and will be four years old this year. Lovebug was adopted in June 2021 and has been with me for about three years.

When you travel does Lovebug travel with you?

If traveling by car, yes Lovebug travels with me. If traveling by plane, she usually stays with a friend or family.

What is her favorite treat?

Lovebug likes most treats, but she is especially fond of carrots!

What are a few amazing qualities about your sweet pup? She loves people! Lovebug will play fetch with anyone all day long! She brings the toy back to you every time and if you don’t pay attention, she hops up on your lap and drops it there for you to throw again. She rarely tires out! She doesn’t care much for other dogs, but she loves every person she sees or meets!

Tell us something special about your pet?

Overall, she is just a super happy dog and brings a smile to everyone she encounters! She greets each day with spirit, energy and love and makes every day of my life pure joy!

Four years ago, I put these dinners together hoping to provide an opportunity for anyone who attends to meet someone who could become one of your newest and closest friends, golf buddy, or fishing pal. With new people moving in all the time, you never know who that could be!

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER ATTENDING?

This social is in a casual setting making it possible for many neighbors to meet and form lasting friendships. Every third Monday of the month, Duffy’s Sports Bar on University in Sarasota hosts us. Each month a few participants volunteer as designated drivers, carpooling to bring everyone down in a few cars. Not only is it a great time, but every month we also have some great raffles! Attendance to these dinners has become so desired that we get a tremendous response as soon as the announcement goes out, make sure to register early as space is limited.
