Barbie Movie
REVIEW BY ASPEN DAVIS ART BY @GIGI_DOODLES_
When I got to the lobby of the Cinemark to see barbie, just like everyone else, I saw a wave of pink anticipation radiating through the theater. I heard all the talk about how amazing it was of course, but I was still keeping my expectations low just as I always do when going to the movies lately. I was only grateful that the film had gotten people excited and eager again the way it hasnāt for so long. And to me, there is nothing more magical than a full theater with that palpable energy for a shared experience. I had no idea what the plot was, and I was definitely not expecting the first line that shifted the entire tone of the film. The insane and inspired line, ādo you guys ever think about dying?ā shocked the theater and instantly made it known that this film was not going to be what anyone expected. I did not want to write this review to focus on the many parallels to the real world that the plot provides. That to me is self-explanatory and it would take way too long to explain every nuisance and incredible point that is woven throughout. This should be clear to everyone who knows the patriarchal world that we live in. However, I do want to emphasize the truth about this movie that some donāt want to admit. This film is not for men. While they will hopefully enjoy it, (if they decide to put their shit aside and discover what the film really means), they will never fully understand it the way woman do. And that is OKAY. Certain films are for some and some for others, but those who have issues with Barbie miss the point entirely.
I want to focus on how this film made me feel and what makes it such a force. It is hilarious of course, and throughout I thought that the humor was in the driver's seat, but the brilliance behind the words is what sneaks up on you. I knew that Greta Gerwig would bring her incredible heart that she brings to every project she makes, but I was unaware of just how much this film would affect me and everyone around me.
There is a natural phenomenon that happens when a film hits it majorly at the box office and creates conversation. People decide to pick it apart to take it down a peg. Of course, this movie is not perfect. It has lines and moments that hit harder than others. But I saw this film three times in three different theaters and in three different cities, and I can say that no matter where I saw it, I had the privilege of seeing women around me see themselves in this movie. They saw their childhoods, struggles, and achievements flash before them just as barbie did. What Barbie achieves so beautifully is something that I haven't felt in a theater in so long, togetherness. When that beautiful Billie Ellish song started to play and Barbie saw the life she hopes to have and the lives of those who enjoy every moment, I looked to my right and saw a big group of young girls all holding hands with tears in their eyes. In that moment I knew what this film was meant for. It is a celebration of women, childhood, and being a human being. What makes this film worthy of the conversation isnāt the plot, the aesthetic, or the kenergy, it is in the simplicity of realizing that just living is more than enough.

Maybe the most important health beneļ¬t of drinking tea isn't the nutritiousness of the tea itself, rather the activity of brewing and drinking tea. I've taken to blending my morning tea beginning with some dried Tulsi. Tulsi, also know as "holy basil," is a classic and popular herbal tea from India that's credited with numerous health beneļ¬ts for immune support. Tulsi is almost always found growing around temples and sacred spaces in India as well as being organically grown commercially. I also add a packet of ginseng, a very popular herbal health supplement that's been used in Asia for centuries. China and Korea are best known for the best quality ginseng, however American ginseng is also of high quality. Again, ginseng grows wild in Asia but is also commercially grown there and in America as well. I usually then add a packet of herbal tea for additional immune support, usually something from Traditional Medicinals, a brand found in most grocery stores. After the tea has had time to steep, I ļ¬nally add some fresh squeezed lemon juice. Hmmmm Making a cup of tea is taking time for ourselves, creating something that is not only warn and tasty, but oļ¬ering us moments of quiet reļ¬ection. Tea is associated with calm and quiet, the opportunity to simply enjoy being with our self. Holding a warm mug of tea, we're fully present, aware of simply sitting without having to do anything. Sharing tea with others is the opportunity to engage in conversation. It can be like this with coļ¬ee as well, often when we want to make an appointment to meet with someone we say, "let's go for coļ¬ee," whether we drink coļ¬ee or not.
Is this a good time to make a cup of tea?

A common phenomenon that many beginner practitioners have expressed to me is feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information they want to, or feel they need to, learn. Iāve definitely experienced this myself many different times throughout my life as an intuitively sensitive person and at the start of my journey with witchcraft. Iām often asked what a person āshouldā learn first about witchcraft, and I believe that answer is subjective to every individual practitioner. However, through regularly practicing my craft for almost three years and starting my small business, Iāve found that learning metaphysical associations to the tools you choose to work with most, is super helpful. Regardless of your chosen tools (i.e. herbs, crystals, etc), Iāve also found that learning simple metaphysical associations to colors is an easy way to learn associations of other things! Iāve decided to create a basic āColor Associationsā guide to give any beginner witches reading this a place to start! Through this guide, you may be able to notice that each color has an association similar to other popular witchy tools such as crystals and herbs.These all share similar metaphysical associations, making them a bit easier to learn and understand each of their energies. Once you get comfortable working with the energies of these tools, youāll eventually learn all the beautiful complexities of what makes these things different from each other, too!
Finally, I wanted to give the readers my interpretation of the basic elements of a spell. I believe that a spell is something created that involves manipulating energy in order to achieve a desired result. Spells can be created using a variety of different tools varying from things you may have in your spice cabinet like Rosemary, dirt from a sacred place, different elements like fire or water, candle wax, or numerous other accessible items.
Each tool used has its own metaphysical properties as discussed in the previous
@blessed.be.witchery
section, so itās important to know a bit about the associations of the tools you choose in order to cast a successful spell. Once youāve learned about the tools you choose to use for your spell, youāll need to assign each tool an intention so that its energy can be used in a way that caters toward the success of your spell. For example, Cinnamon has metaphysical associations related to sweetening an outcome, drawing in good luck, attracting financial prosperity, and general protection. I would use Cinnamon in a Good Luck spell with the intention of it drawing in sweet opportunities. I might also use Peppermint, which has metaphysical associations to attracting financial prosperity and good luck, with the intention of drawing in more fulfilling financial opportunities. A spell can be casted in many forms such as in a jar, a cauldron/cooking pot, a candle, an oil, a bath ritual, and countless other forms. The vessel is less important to the success of the spell than the intentions, tools, and energies used to create the spell.
To me, a spell is kind of like a recipe, and your ingredients are tools that have spiritual properties, energies, and in my personal belief, spirits. It is important to respect and honor the tools and spirits you work with, the same as you wouldnāt ask a stranger to do important tasks for you with no reciprocation or honor on your end. In conclusion, witchcraft and starting my small business has changed my life in ways I couldāve never dreamed of. It has taught me many hard lessons, brought me closer to many beautiful souls, and pushed me past my comfort zone into an unimaginable new journey of growth and transformation. I am beyond grateful for every person Iāve had the blessing of connecting with in the witchy and small business communities, and for every customer and client that has trusted me enough to help them grow in their own spiritual journey through my handcrafted tools and services.
