Message from the Chairman
Outward Bound Hong Kong reached a significant strategic junction in 2025. As we celebrated our 55th anniversary, the organisation focused on strengthening its foundation, navigating the operational and fiscal headwinds of the post-pandemic era to emerge with renewed stability and purpose. A key highlight of 2025 was the external validation of our impact. Outward Bound Hong Kong was honored with the Judges’ Choice Award for Best Experiential Learning Provider at the inaugural Greater Bay Area School Awards. This recognition confirms our standing as a leading partner in character development within the region’s evolving educational landscape. The Board’s primary focus remains the longterm sustainability of our mission. Following the revitalisation of Wong Wan Chau base in 2024 by the Lee Hysan Foundation, we are now focused on modernizing our main campus. We are profoundly grateful to the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation for their visionary support of the landmark Tai Mong Tsai base renovation project, commencing in 2026. This multi-year investment is essential to ensuring our facilities keep pace with the needs of our participants & staff and provide a safe, inclusive, and modern environment for growth.
Strategic partnerships continue to broaden our social reach. We extend our deepest thanks to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for their renewed commitment to our reintegration programmes through 2028 and their support of our new family-centric initiatives. These alliances, along with our environmental stewardship partnership with the Swire Institute of Marine Science, allow us to diversify our impact and remain deeply relevant to the challenges facing Hong Kong society today. As we move through 2026, the Board is preparing for our next strategic planning cycle. This will be a pivotal time as we explore new opportunities to engage with the wider Greater Bay Area and maximise our social return on investment here at home. Message from the Executive Director
Outward Bound programs are dedicated to preparing people to navigate change and transition with confidence, resilience and purpose. This mission is brought to life every day by our outstanding staff team, whose professionalism and commitment underpin everything we do. In 2025, we introduced several new initiatives that expand both the breadth and depth of our educational offerings. Notably, the Family Academy, generously funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, has enabled us to engage families in meaningful shared experiences that strengthen relationships and build life skills. We also launched the Ocean Guardians Program, delivered in collaboration with the Swire Institute of Marine Science, which places a particular emphasis on climate change and the stewardship of our marine environment. Looking ahead, we are committed to developing a range of inclusive programs by 2027 that will be designed for participants with disabilities and able‑bodied participants to attend together. Funding for these initiatives was secured in 2025, with training and equipment being put in place in 2026 to ensure we are fully prepared for implementation in 2027. These programs will help ensure that Outward Bound is accessible to a wider and more diverse community. We are deeply grateful for the support of the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation, whose generosity is enabling the renovation and revitalisation of a substantial part of our main campus at Tai Mong Tsai. This investment is helping to future‑proof our facilities so that future generations can continue to benefit from Outward Bound programs in a safe, inspiring and well‑equipped environment.
This Annual Report highlights the significant educational outcomes and community impact we achieved in 2025. The stories and data presented here reflect not only the dedication of our participants, but also the steadfast support of our wider community. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to our donors, trustees and committee members, who so generously contribute their time, expertise, resources and funds to guide and sustain our work. Your partnership is essential to our continued success. Finally, I wish to pay special tribute to our staff team, who remain one of Outward Bound’s greatest strengths. Our instructors and facilitators work tirelessly—often from dawn to bedtime, and frequently for extended periods in challenging conditions—to ensure that every program is safe, impactful and transformational. Their unwavering dedication embodies the spirit of Outward Bound and makes our mission a reality.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS 2025 As a local charity since 1970, our annual fundraising events inspire community engagement, foster teamwork, and support our mission to empower young people through challenge-based learning. These events offer meaningful opportunities for individuals, families, and corporate teams to connect, embrace challenge, and create lasting impact for Hong Kong’s youth. Together these events generated significant funds, strengthened community ties and showcased the transformative power of challenge-based learning for Hong Kong’s young people. In 2025, we presented various fundraising events including the Pedal Power, the Multi-Adventure Race, the Corporate Challenge and the Balloon Run.
PEDAL POWER 2025
Held on 5 April, Pedal Power brought together 95 staff and family riders from the Listing Department of HKEX and participating companies including AFRC, Deloitte, Freshfields, KPMG, SFC, and more. Despite drizzle and rain, participants demonstrated remarkable resilience through a scenic and game-filled cycling experience. The event raised over HK$724,000, enabling more than 240 disadvantaged students to join our fiveday outdoor leadership programme. MULTI-ADVENTURE RACE 2025
This half-day race in Sai Kung combined kayaking, trail running, orienteering and mystery tasks to develop teamwork, leadership and resilience. With two course options - 18km and 8km - athletes, corporate teams, friends and families were invited to test their endurance and cooperation across the beautiful countryside and coastal terrain in Sai Kung. Outward Bound Hong Kong was pleased to collaborate with the host of the Balloon Fiesta to organise the Balloon Run, an event that attracted over 800 participants across 1K, 3K, and 8K distance options. Blessed with clear sunshine and a light breeze, the day offered a vibrant, family-friendly fundraising experience that brought communities together in support of our mission.

OUTWARD BOUND INSTRUCTOR TRAINING ACADEMY
Six trainees completed the 3‑month Training Academy and became Outward Bound Hong Kong aspirant instructors. They are the 35th cohort to complete the programme since 2004. They began with a 7‑day Instructor Training Expedition and progressed through more than 15 modules covering technical skills, facilitation, safeguarding, and course shadowing.

RAISING THE BAR FOR OUTDOOR EDUCATORS Dr. Simon Priest is a widely published author who has trained thousands of facilitators in over 50 nations and advised programmes in approximately 100 countries.
POSITIVE EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP Outward Bound Hong Kong is developing a partnership with the Bei Shan Tang Foundation – Positive Education Hong Kong. 10 staff completed the Discovering Positive Education course to embed wellbeing and character science in programme design and debriefs.
Outward Bound Hong Kong partnered with the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) to host a Masterclass led by Dr Simon Priest, strengthening facilitation and programme design across our staff. The open format also welcomed external practitioners, advancing industry standards while upskilling our team.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT 2025
The Executive Committee Members of The Outward Bound Trust of Hong Kong Limited (the “Trust”) submit their report together with the audited financial statements of the Trust for the year ended 31 December 2025 Principal activities The principal activities of the Trust are the provision of education and personal development training for people of all nationalities and in particular people from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Results and appropriations The results of the Trust for the year are set out in the statement of comprehensive income. Executive Committee Members’ material interests in transactions, arrangements and contracts that are significant in relation to the Trust’s business For the year ended 31 December 2025, an aggregate sum of HK$364,000 in donations was contributed by the Executive Committee Members. Other than the donations listed above, there are no transactions, arrangements and contracts of significance in relation to the Trust’s business to which the Trust was a party and in which an Executive Committee Member had a material interest, whether directly or indirectly, which subsisted a the end of the year or at any time during the year.
Executive Committee Members’ interests in the shares and debentures of the Trust or any specified undertaking of the Trust At no time during the year was the Trust a party to any arrangement to enable the Executive Committee Members to hold any interests in the shares, or debentures of, the Trust or its specified undertakings. Management Contracts No contracts concerning the management and administration of the whole or any substantial part of the business of the Trust were entered into or existed during the year. Business Review Performance Review 2025 saw similar demand for OBHK services to 2024. Much of which is attributable to the return to business as usual for many organizations. The ‘catch-up’ observed in previous years can be seen as a one-off, and corporate and open-enrolment programs. During the year 6,480 participants attended programs, completing 26,409 participation days.
The first two quarters of 2025 generated a surplus and by year end we had $31,268,641.07 revenue, a decrease 6% from 2024. However, the final two quarters were not as productive and OBHK incurred an overall deficit of $668,779. Repairs and maintenance of the campsite facilities account for much of this deficit, including repairing the main access road at our Tai Mong Tsai base. The annual budget targets were increased from HK$34M to HK$40M in 2025, including substantial increases in salaries, however, by midyear it was apparent that business would be similar to 2024, and measures were taken to control cost in Q3 and Q4. In January 2026, OBHK received confirmation of funding support of HK$18,709,744 from Kadoorie Charitable Foundation to renovate several buildings and the waterfront at our main campus in Tai Mong Tsai. The fund will be disbursed in accordance with a funding schedule spanning from February 2026 to February 2030. Renovation work is scheduled to commence in 2026. The regular fundraising events conducted in 2025 included Pedal Power, the Multi-Adventure Race, and Corporate Challenge. These had slightly lower donations then were anticipated, however they remain a useful avenue for drawing awareness for OBHK initiatives. A new event was launched, the Balloon Festival, however with the negative publicity of this AIA Balloon Festival event, pledged monies were not received. Separately, OBHK worked toward another HK Vertical Abseil event in November with a target similar to previous event of 2,000,000. Unfortunately, this event was cancelled in collaboration with the venue host to avert concerns about reputational risk in these high-profile events. The loss of these two events led to an overall deficit result for the year.
Environmental Protection During 2025, a passive radiative cooling paint was applied across campus buildings. The high-performance coating reflects solar heat and emits thermal radiation to deliver sub-ambient cooling – without electricity or refrigerants – advancing decarbonisation and net-zero goals.
Compliance with laws and regulations The Trust is committed to making every effort to comply with all relevant laws and regulations. The Executive Committee Members are not aware of any instances of non-compliance with the relevant laws and regulations which may have a material impact on the Trust. Principal Risks and Uncertainties The principal risk to essential infrastructure identified in earlier years has begun to be addressed, with a pledge for a multi-year renovation project to numerous building and the waterfront area at Tai Mong Tsai. It is a substantial capital investment to of $19M to maintain quality in operations in future years, generously made by the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation. Permitted indemnity provisions A not-for-profit organization liability insurance policy was in place during the year to protect the Executive Committee members of the Trust (whether made by the Trust or otherwise) or an associated company (if made by the Trust) against potential costs and liabilities arising from claims brought against the Executive Committee members. Auditor The financial statements have been audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers who retire and, being eligible, offer themselves for re-appointment. On behalf of the Board of Executive Committee Members
