Letter from the Editor

October is our Obsession issue. It is a word that is used a lot and with much exaggeration but I would rather be obsessed than apathetic! Obsession is passionate and as far as I am concerned, passion is the spice of life. Jordyn Jones is our multi-talented Beauty covergirl who has gained popularity for singing and dancing. With a sizable and passionate fan base, she is completely worth obsessing over. In the Spotlight on The Artist feature, read about how Celebrity Groomer Barbara Guillaume has found herself working with some of Hollywood’s leading men. Pilar Noire shares her tips for keeping your nails and toes looking great between salon appointments in Nailing It. I also share my current beauty obsessions in Editor’s Picks! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy! Sincerely, Nicole Walmsley Instagram @nicolewalmsley

Splurge or Steal:

Hair Rescue Under $15 BY DEE TRILLO Senior Lifestyle and Travel Editor| Dee@BelloMag.com| @HauteFrugalista

SUMMER IS OVER AND IT IS TIME TO REPAIR OUR STRANDS FROM THE DAMAGED CAUSED BY THE SUN AND SAND. FALL BRINGS A WHOLE NEW SET OF CLIMATE CONDITIONS THAT CAN MAKE OUR HAIR BRITTLE, DRY AND DULL. IT IS IMPORTANT TO ADD AN EXTRA LAYER OF MOISTURE TO OUR SCALP TO AVOID EXCESSIVE DRYNESS AND TO OUR ENDS TO PREVENT BREAKAGE. HERE ARE SOME OF OUR FAVORITE BUDGET-FRIENDLY OPTIONS TO KEEP BEAUTIFUL AND SHINY HAIR ALL SEASON LONG:

L’Oreal Nutri-Gloss System: Frankly, I’m obsessed with this line. This two-in-one system is packed with GlycoSilk and the High Shine Glossing Mist leaves every strand shiny and soft. I love that it is not sticky or greasy at all, and it smells delicious! $5-7 www.LorealParisUSA.com

BEAUTY issue - BELLOmag.com

Dove Oxygen Moisture Root Lift: Get rid of flat hair by adding a few sprays of this non-sticky product on your roots. It works wonders even on curly or wavy hair as it gives great volume without frizz. $6 www.Dove.US

6

John Frieda Colour Refreshing Gloss: Aside stained towels and pink foam, the main issue with red hair is that the color fades away very quickly. I use this product every week to give a boost of color to my hair and avoid dyeing it too frequently. $12 www.JohnFrieda.com

Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Leave-In Conditioner: This all-natural formula is packed with agave, cocoa and shea butter and soybean oil to retain moisture and keep it soft. $12 www.CarolsDaughter.com Schwarzkopf Essence ULTIME Diamond Mask: This Color & Radiance Illuminating treatment leaves hair incredibly nourished, restores moisture, protects from fading and sun, and helps retain natural glossiness for gorgeous locks. $7 www.Schwarzkopf.com

Oil Essentials Sweet Almond & Macadamia: Perfect for hair and dry skin, this oil is a hidden gem that will soften the most dehydrated hair. It comes full of vitamins A, E, B12 and Jojoba oil, which are the best ingredients to bring back healthy hair and hydrated strands. $13 www.OilEssentialsBeauty.com 7

Salon Grafix Cleansing Conditioner: For those days in between washes or while traveling, this all-in-one paraben and sulfate free formula can replace every single hair product you own. I use it to wash my hair as a deep treatment when I need a leave-in or to protect hair from frizz or heat. $8 www.SalonGrafix.com Â

Spotlight On the Artist

Barbara Guillaume Celebrity Groomer

instagram: barbaraguillaume | twitter: barbaramakeup Barbara is a French-born woman who lived in Paris and Spain before settling in Los Angeles. She traveled the world as a model for 20 years before changing her focus to makeup and celebrity men’s grooming. Over the years she has worked with James Franco, Josh Duhamel and Ryan Reynolds to name a few. BELLO: What did you want to be when you were growing up? Barbara Guillaume: I wanted to be a flight attendant! I traveled a lot with my parents and I loved the idea that I could do a job that allowed me to travel all over the world. I ended up modeling at age 14, so I went all over the world in a different way.

I am very fortunate to work with very handsome men. BM: What has been your biggest “pinch me” moment? BG: I remember how excited I was when my agent told me I was going to be working with Mr. Morgan Freeman. He was so kind and funny, a true legend. BM: Who is someone you haven’t worked with yet, but would love to? BG: I would have to say I always wanted to work with Robin Williams. I’m sad that I didn’t get the chance to meet him as I would have loved to be able to have that one-on-one conversation with such a genius and kind human being.

BM: When did you start grooming and how did you choose it as a career?

BM: What are your top five go-to products right now?

BG: I started grooming about five years ago. I modeled for almost 20 years and always loved makeup. So, after a couple of years after moving to Los Angeles I began working on my portfolio which was not too hard as most of my friends were beautiful models and had a lot of connections with photographers. I will say that I did not pick grooming from the beginning, I started with makeup on women but somehow I booked more and more grooming jobs, so ultimately I decided to focus on that. I am a bit of a tomboy so I love being one of the boys!

BG: TANCHO stick hair styling balm, PERFECT MATT from Kryolan (amazing anti shine), MURAD Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15, Dr HAUSCHKA Translucent Bronzing Tint, ORIBE hairspray

BM: What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

BM: What trends are you excited about for this season?

BG: I love that I get to be around all kinds of people and personalities. And once you get to work with someone often, the trust and friendship that is created is amazing.

BG: There really isn’t a specific trend that excites me. I’m very classic when it comes to trends! I really like when a man has that rugged kind of look but is still put together; a scruffy beard but nicely groomed. I like a bad boy look, which I always clarify doesn’t mean a dirty look.

BM: How would you describe your style? BG: I don’t really know if I have a particular style of grooming, all I know is that men should stay men. They should always look themselves and 17

BM: All-time favorite tip or trick? BG: Men need to take the time to take care of their skin, so my tip is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. With SPF of course. If they want to have a subtle tan, add a bit of Dr Hauschka Translucent Bronzing Tint to their face. It works like a charm and looks completely natural.

BM: What are your hair/makeup/ grooming pet peeves?

BG: Like I said before, men should stay men. Eyebrows that are too groomed or too much makeup on men are my biggest pet peeves. BM: Who or what inspires you in your work? BG: I have to admit that all my clients are an inspiration. I am very fortunate to work with such beautiful and kind people. All my clients are big humanitarians using their celebrity status to help others and change the world we live in. BM: What’s next for you in your career? BG: I am actually very happy with where I am. I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason and at the right time. Whatever is supposed to happen next is welcome with open arms. BM: How do you spend your time outside of work? BG: I spend time with my handsome 15-year-old son and also work on my jewelry line F.O.G (The Face Of Gratitude). It’s handmade in Malas, they’re praying beads and 10 percent of all proceeds go to a different charity every month. www.thefaceofgratitude.com BM: What advice would you give someone who wants to be a celebrity groomer? BG: Keep working on building your portfolio and client list little by little. I believe that if you are good at what you do and persevere there is no reason you would not get what you want. Hard work and faith is the key. I had a lot of rejection with agencies at the beginning of my career but never gave up. I am glad I didn’t. October 2015 - BELLO

Nailing It Pilar Noire with

BY PILAR NOIRE, Nail Expert at Nailing Hollywood Instagram @Pilarnoire Summer is over and I often hear of ladies stopping pedicure appointments until next spring when their toes reappear once again from winter fashion. However, it is easy to maintain beautiful hands and feet without a visit to the salon with just a little effort. Counting on a spring salon appointment to fix everything that has been neglected in winter months will leave you and your manicurist disappointed. This unrealistic expectation is totally avoidable and can even turn out to be fun. Simple, frequent maintenance is important to keep your nails, hands and feet healthy throughout fall and winter. Just amp up your existing home arsenal if you have one or create a nail kit for home use if you don’t have one and spoil yourself by following these suggestions. Here is what you will need plus some of my favorites:

ESSENTIALS:

IMPLEMENTS:Â These are the three most important implements needed in your collection: a nail clipper to trim those nails; a nail nipper to cut those unruly hangnails so you do not pick and play causing pain and damaging your skin in the process; a nail pusher to gently push back cuticles prior to applying polish. If you do not want to invest in a pusher, use the free edge of your nail on the opposite hand to gently push them back while showering. I really love the professional products you can find as a consumer at Sephora. They make it so easy. From the namesake brand to Tweezerman and Deborah Lippmann, they even have little kits of all the implements you need in pretty packaging to give your nails the love they need between pampering salon appointments. BEAUTY issue - BELLOmag.com

Nail files, smoothing buffers, cotton rounds, acetone and isopropyl alcohol. These can be purchased at your local drugstore, although I also am loving the nail file section at Sephora and their useful foot files. Otherwise, a normal nail file can keep those feet smooth as well. If you want to go all out this season, Clarisonic has a wonderful pedicure system called Pedi. Use the nail file of choice in one direction gently to shape your nails as desired. Then, I use a buffer at a much finer grit to finish that edge nicely. Pure acetone is among the most efficient polish removers without dyes and fragrance. The cotton rounds perform better than cotton balls to remove polish without cotton remnants getting all over the place. If you are feeling really fancy, search for lintfree options to save you prep time. Isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free pad is great at removing natural oils from the nail bed just prior to polish application. The higher the percent, the less water there is in the alcohol. 18

POLISHES: You will need a base coat, a topcoat and a few of your favorite colors so you have options to choose from. For base coats, I love a nice ridge filling base coat to smooth any edges, creating a nice canvas for your color application. I prefer Essie’s ridge filling base coat. There are so many great product lines for polish at all price ranges that it can hard to choose. Go with colors that speak to you. Mix it up! I love a variety of brands and packaging. Some of my favorites include Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, Essie, MAC Cosmetics, Ciate, Dior, Chanel, and Sephora Formula X. If you love bright colors, China Glaze has an amazing assortment. For a topcoat, I love Essie’s Gel Setter, CND Vinylux, and Seche Vite.

HYDRATION: It is so important to have cuticle oil to keep your nails hydrated. I love CND’s Solar Oil. Also, find a lotion and hand cream you love for hands and feet. I can’t get enough of Jenna Hipp’s Essential Nail & Hand Cream. Other favorites include Dr. Haushka’s hand and foot creams, Dyptique’s Eau Rose Hand Cream and L’Occitane has many great options too, such as their shea butter line.

EXTRAS: If you can go a step further with your regimen and give yourself a nice foot soak, I cannot get enough of Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics products. Their bath bombs, bubble bars and luxury bath melts are a real treat. They smell amazing and leave your skin feeling so soft. With so many optinos, there is something for everyone. I especially love their Dragon’s Egg Bath Bomb, You’ve Been Mangoed Bath Melt and Creamy Candy Bubble Bar. We do so much with our hands and feet. Be good to them, spoil them and keep them pretty. 19

MY LOVE OF BEAUTY PRODUCTS GOES BACK A LONG WAY. I ADORE DISCOVERING NEW LINES AND EXPLORING THE STEADY STREAM OF INVENTIVE NEW PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET. REDISCOVERING OLD FAVORITES IS JUST AS MUCH FUN! Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation is a new version of an existing formula. It’s been revamped and improved to specifically tackle the challenges of the TV and film industry’s advanced technology. The skin appears smoother and more natural on camera and in person. With a whopping 40 shades to choose from, anyone can enjoy the long lasting, flawless complexion that this foundation provides.

Scent is the sense most closely tied to memory. The hint of cologne can remind you of a past love, the sweet smell of cookies can take you back to a childhood kitchen. For me, catching the warm, smoky notes of the custom candle made for Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City brings back great memories of time in The Big Apple. Le Labo creates handcrafted perfume, candles and body care products that will help shape your future memories. Mix and match for a unique scent all your own. www.barneys.com

www.sephora.com

It’s only natural that after creating a mega line of family-friendly products for the home and baby, Jessica Alba would so seamlessly launch into the beauty industry. Honest Beauty is an approachable line of makeup and skincare that anyone would be excited to try. Her website is full of tips and tricks and application techniques and it’s so much fun that she does her tutorials on herself! www.honestbeauty.com

Lash Conditioning Cleanser by Talika Paris is an oil-free eye makeup remover with a soothing effect. With silk proteins and cornflower water, these ingredients are antioxident rich and will help to reduce the look of puffiness and fine lines over time. The silk proteins condition and strengthen lashes preventing breakage. To use, soak a cotton pad with two pumps of the conditioner and gently wipe the delicate eye area. No need to rinse! www.nordstrom.com

Vincent Longo has launched a fantastic new collection for Fall 2015. Among the treasure is the Cangiante Dimensional Eyeshadow, a Demi-Matte and velvety smooth eyeshadow that can be used wet or dry. It contains Vitamin E to protect the delicate eye area. I especially love “Ironic”: a rich, warm brown that flatters every skin tone and enhances every eye color. www.vincentlongo.com

WITH HER PEARLY WHITE SMILE AND WAVY BLONDE TRESSES, JORDYN JONES IS THE EPITOME OF ADORABLE. HOWEVER, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE BUDDING TALENT SHIMMERING BENEATH THAT CUTE EXTERIOR! FROM HER ICONIC COVER OF IGGY AZALEA’S “FANCY” TO HER VIRAL COVER OF “BANJI,” JORDYN’S CAREER HAS PROPELLED TO DIZZY HEIGHTS. BELLO MAG HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH THIS DYNAMO ON HER SELF-PROFESSED OBSESSION WITH “SCREAM QUEENS,” HER EVERSO DOCUMENTED INSTAGRAM PAGE AND WHAT EXCITING VENTURES SHE IS EMBARKING ON LEADING UP TO THE HOLIDAY SEASON.

BELLO Mag: What was your experience like on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition? JJ: My experience on the first season of “AUDC” was really exciting. I loved meeting Abby and all of the other contestants, I’m still friends with some of them. I loved doing all of the ‘challenges’ and getting the opportunity to work with so many different choreographers. BM: Would you ever compete in a talent show again? JJ: I actually don’t think I would ever do a reality show competition again. It made sense for me at that time in my life but I have a career now that I need to focus on. BM: Your cover of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” was such a huge success! Aside from Iggy, who is your dream artist to collaborate with? JJ: I would love to collaborate with Fifth Harmony, Becky G, Taylor Swift or my new obsession Alessia Cara! BM: You’re very active on social media with Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. What is your favorite platform to connect with your fans? JJ: My favorite platform is Instagram, which is also where I hold “Talk with Jordyn Tuesday” where I try to answer questions for my fans. Twitter is also fun because I can say whatever is on my mind and get instant feedback from my followers. 33

BM: What has been your most careerdefining moment to date? JJ: Probably when I did a cover to Sharaya J’s “Banji.” The music video went viral and my career snowballed from there. BM: You’ve mentioned you’re a big fan of “Scream Queens.” Would you ever want to make a cameo appearance on the show? JJ: Absolutely! BM: Describe to me what role you would want to play on the show?

I actually don’t think I would ever do a reality show competition again. It made sense for me at that time in my life but I have a career now that I need to focus on.

JJ: I would love to be in a flashback scene where I would play a younger Chanel No. 1. BM: Can you tell your fans about any upcoming projects you are working on? I recently shot a role in the new Awesomeness TV feature film called “Dance Camp” where they also used my original song “I’m Dappin.” I also filmed another movie this summer called “InstaFamous.” I am constantly in the studio recording new music and also planning some more videos, particularly a song with Josh Levi, which I am going to release right before Christmas. We just shot a pilot for a dance tutorial series for AwesomenessTV and there is another music series in the works. My photoshoot with Madison James that I did with Hayes Grier will also be released soon! October 2015 - BELLO
