Love has been in the air this month as Valentine’s day took over on the 14th and everyone rushed over to buy their flowers and chocolates. It is a day that reminds us to reach out to our loved ones and tell them how much they mean to us. However, the expression of our love for others shouldn't just be on one specific day. In this issue, we hope to remind you all that love comes in all shapes and forms and expressing it doesn't have to be in a monetary way... sometimes all it takes is your presence or as our handsome cover, Thomas Doherty said your "unjudgmental presence."

Letter from the Editor

"Love is like the wind, you can't see it, but you can feel it." ―Nicholas Sparks, "A Walk To Remember"

Currently starring in "High Fidelity," the talented actor sat with us at BELLO and spoke on love, kindness, and balance. We also had the pleasure of featuring some talented names who are the reflection of purity and kindliness. Jenna Ortega, our BELLO Spotlight, who plays on Season 2 of "YOU" let her inner princess shine and wowed us with her kindness and maturity. She isn't the only one who reminded us to see life in color and pick the glass half full over the one half empty. Sarah Silva, our female BELLO Young Hollywood, shared with us her move to the US amongst other things. Her vocal stylings are truly beautiful and will fill you with happiness and bliss. Finally, our male BELLO Young Hollywood, Zane Holtz, will have you blushing with his looks and wit. In a world where so much chaos is happening, we must remember to put LOVE out there whether it be in a physical or emotional way. Lately, there has been a dangerous outbreak known as the coronavirus, the death of legendary Koby Bryant alongside his daughter and others on board of the helicopter, and more... It is these moments that remind us to cherish every day to its fullest and those who are part of our lives. Everything can change in a second, so why fill our days with anger and hate when we can make a change through our words and actions? We dedicate this issue to those who are mourning, those who are hurting, and those who need a little reminder that they are loved in this crazy place we call planet Earth. So remember... "Life is a flower of which love is the honey." — Victor Hugo Ciao Alex Bonnet Entertainment Editor

After 50 years in fashion, legendary designer Jean-Paul Gaultier has retired. His couture show during Paris Fashion Week was his last. We do not think there could be a more appropriate OBSESSION selection for this love issue than some iconic and fun Jean Paul Gaultier moments.

Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances A classic duo in the industry and its many special editions.

THOMAS DOHERTY: LOVE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE BLINDING

Love. In the dictionary, love is defined as “an intense feeling of deep affection,” and as we all know it can get, well, complicated. Currently starring in Hulu’s new series “High Fidelity,” Thomas Doherty is part of a story in which the struggle of love is real. Based on the film with John Cusack, the story is gender-swapped where Zoe Kravtiz plays the role of “Rob.” For Doherty, “it was an amazing experience.” It was the first time he filmed a project in New York and was lucky to work with such a great cast: “ I honestly had like the best time, nicest people to work with.”

As the show talks about love, heartbreak, and self-reflection, it begged the question: what does love mean for Thomas Doherty? Well, for him it isn’t something you can objectify, nor does he believe it is personal. “I think it’s already there in everyone naturally. Like, a natural essence,” he put so beautifully. “It’s hard to put into words because your brain has to put into words what you’re heart is feeling which it can never do.” After all, what the mind thinks and what the heart wants can be two very different things! At the end of the day, it is important to be there for those we love.

In order to play this part, the talented actor had to add ‘playing the guitar’ to his resume. “It was kind of like a panic learn,” he shared. When going to an audition, they tend to ask questions such as ‘Do you ride a horse?’ or ‘Can you play an instrument?’ and in Doherty’s case it was ‘Do you play the guitar?’ Of course, his answer was yes! A couple of months went by and when he got the job he remembered he had to learn the guitar, “so it was quite stressful. I managed to learn to play the guitar… kind of. If you’re a real musician I’d advise you not to look at my hands,” he expressed laughingly. Overall, his experience on set was a beautiful one.

There are a million and one ways to show someone you love them. Doherty opened up on this and shared that one of the most beautiful ways you could show someone you love them is with “your unjudgemental presence, just to be there.” Sometimes you can’t give someone what they want but just being present, with no judgment, is invaluable. “I don’t think you can make someone actually do something. They need to do it themselves. They need to want to do it themselves,” and he feels so fortunate to have people around him who have taught him this and are just there. Receiving judgment-free love is key as it relieves the pressure of having to be perfect all the time for those around us.

Balancing your career, life, and relationships can seem almost impossible a times but Doherty does so gracefully. As he explained, being an actor is structureless as you could be doing nothing for three weeks and then one morning, you get a call and you are away n a project for six months. “There is no structure so you do kind of have to create your own schedule,” he shared. “Otherwise, you’ll wait up ‘til like four in the morning working on your craft, reading scripts and watching films and stuff.” Lately, rock climbing has become a source of stability and balance for the talented actor as well as socializing. With many auditions under his belt, he keeps busy and keeps moving forward because as he put it: “You are your product. You have to constantly maintain that physically, emotionally, and mentally.” As an actor, you can also tend to connect to others’ feelings more and be quite empathetic however there are times where you must draw the line. As we all struggle to find a happy balance in life, we can’t ignore the things that drive us crazy either. For Doherty, his biggest peeve is selfish people. “Oh my god, I hate selfish people. I can’t stand them. Selfishness. Always selfishness,” he insisted on. He does try to empathize with people but there “comes a point where selfishness and greed just… I don’t know, I don’t like that.” I think we can all agree on this one. After all, we do live in a world where many think of themselves first when we should all remember that we are here together not against each other.

Leonardo Dicaprio on screen and was absolutely convinced he could do it. That is where it all started. It being more concrete when he made it to college and was doing theatre to become a musical theatre performer. He was lucky to be on set with amazing directors and other actors, something he never takes granted for. In his words: “I’m really happy. I’m so lucky. There’s not a lot of structure when you’re an actor and for me, that’s probably the hardest part because I love what I do. It’s an opportunity for you to play with whatever you have and you’re lucky enough to be surrounded by people who are like-minded so the acting itself has never been a challenge… yet.” The handsome and Scottish Thomas Doherty knows what it means to work hard, love deeply, and go with the flow of life. Never having been a five or ten-year plan kind of guy, where he wants to be isn’t necessarily circumstantial, “I guess more of a state of mind or state of the way I am,” he expressed. “Be happy. I’m trying to achieve that because I think when you’re happy you’re not rude to anyone, you’re not mean, you’re not doing stuff that you don’t want.” He is in a constant stay of evolvement and thrives to connect to himself and those around him a little more every day. Act, Search, and Love.

Before Doherty became the wise man and talented actor that he is today, he was just a young boy from Scotland who was acting: “I think my mom just wanted to get me out of the house, to be honest,” he chuckled. He was ten years old at the time and found himself watching ‘Titanic.’ He remembers seeing

JENNA ORTEGA

SPOTLIGHT

JENNA ORTEGA: NETFLIX'S RESIDENT GIRL DETECTIVE Season 1 of Netflix's hit show You captured the hearts of its viewers with young Paco, main character Joe Goldberg's neighbor and basically adopted child. Season 2 moved Joe's character to Los Angeles, and with a new city came a new young and sassy neighbor - Ellie Alves, played by 17 year old Jenna Ortega. Ellie is sassy, a little nosy, and quickly became the show's viewers' favorite teen detective. Her suspicion of Joe and proximity to him as his neighbor brought in even more suspense to the popular thriller series. We had the opportunity to sit down with Jenna and discuss her transition from Disney's Stuck in the Middle to You, some aspirations of hers, and her favorite parts about playing Ellie.

What sparked your interest in acting and how did you get where you are today? There wasn’t anything that specifically sparked my interest in the craft, I just randomly thought out loud about it one day and it eventually became an obsession. That thought first occurred when I was 6 years old and I didn’t start participating in the industry till I was about 9 1/2 or 10. I was discovered on Facebook. Since then I’ve been building a resume, gaining experience and learning from all of the talent around me. It’s all been very exciting but a lot of work. I wasn’t aware of the commitment I was making when I first began acting, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. What was the transition like between your role on Disney Channel and your role in a thriller series? It was confusing. After working in children’s programming for years, to make an immediate switch into Thriller, a territory I had never stepped foot in before, was intimidating. I felt like I was learning how to act again. The entire season was an experiment for me. And to join a project that already had such success and was highly anticipated, that adds a ton of pressure. In no way did I want to be a weak link or not fit in with the tone of the show or hinder its storytelling in any form.

What has been your most challenging role so far? To date, I would have to say a character I portrayed in an indie film over the summer in Spain last year because I didn’t have any emotional experiences to draw from. But I’m just getting started, I feel that character is yet to come. What is your favorite part about playing Ellie on You? My favorite part about playing Ellie is how bold she is. She will say anything that comes to her mind and it’s amazing. I’m not saying it’s always appropriate or classy, but she’s a character and I feel we would get along really well. How are you similar and different from Ellie? I think we have a very similar thought process and are 'interested in the same type of films. We both want to be directors. Ellie aspires to be intimidating to some and is quite nosy, whereas I don’t really care to invest time into figuring someone out like my neighbor. I’m not as sociable. It’s also none of my business and I’m fine with that.

What's your favorite thing to do when you're not working? Spend time with the people I love. Since I work in Los Angeles or sometimes out of state/country, I don’t see my friends or family from the Coachella Valley often. I also enjoy writing. Whether it be a random essay or a screenplay I never touch again, it’s relaxing and artistically freeing. What’s your dream role? A character who is impactful and leaves their mark in film. A female Tyler Durden would be cool. An empowering character like Ellen Ripley would be cool, too.

Who is someone you would love to collaborate with? The Safdie Brothers. If you could remake any TV show or movie, what would it be and who would you play? If they ever did a remake of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which I hope they never touch) I think I would like to be Clementine. It would be interesting. What’s your spirit animal and why? Never thought about this so I took a quiz. Lmao. I got tiger because I “put a special emphasis on raw feelings and emotions. The tiger spirit animal symbolizes primal instincts, unpredictability, and ability to trust yourself.” I like this, and it perfectly coincides with my career choice. If you could only bring three movies with you on a deserted island, which ones would you bring? This is arduous. I’m going to say 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick), The Wolf of Wall Street, and Get Out. I haven’t seen Enough films to be content with this one. Where do you hope to be five years from now? Happy.

ZANE HOLTZ YOUNG HOLLYWOOD

ZANE HOLTZ: LIVING HIS CHILDHOOD DREAM The actor Zane Holtz is kind, generous, and talented. Having grown up in Canada, Holtz was a huge Archie fan from a very young age. Starring in the Riverdale spinoff “Katy Keene,” he is very excited to put his comic book knowledge to use! Family man and working man, he finds a way to balance the different aspects of his life. Here at BELLO, we had the chance to catch up with Holtz as he opened up about his inspirations and experiences as an actor.

“Katy Keene” is based on the Archie comics. Growing up, were you a fan of this comic? I was a massive Archie fan! I grew up in Canada and according to Jon Goldwater Jr. the CEO of Archie comics, Canada is a huge consumer of the Archie world. I have at least 400 comics stored at my dads place in Vancouver. Share with us what attracted you to this script/world. How did you cross paths with this opportunity? I was aware of Riverdale and had watched the first season. I thought Roberto had done a fantastic job of re imagining the Archie universe for a modern audience. Riverdale reminded me of Twin Peaks which is one of my favorite shows of all time. I had done a pilot for the CW, Warner Brothers and Berlanti Productuons previously and they gave me another opportunity with Katy Keene. What can viewers expect to see and feel while watching “Katy Keene” ? If Riverdale is a murder mystery then Katy Keene is its bright and cheery romantic comedy cousin. It is an uplifting, aspirational show and hopefully viewers will walk away feeling better about the state of the world. Katy Keene is about young adults achieving their dreams in the big city. What are some aspects of the show you feel you can relate to when you started your own career? Katy Keene is definitely a show about big dreams in a big city. I think every actor or entertainer can relate to having a

goal or dream that seems unattainable. it takes a certain type of person to defy the odds and go for their goals regardless of the adversity that comes with their dreams. What are characteristics of a role which attract you to it the most? I always look for what my role contributes to the story. Does the character have an arch? Do they have an important impact on the story? I am equally interested in playing heroes and villains as long as they have something important to say or do. Share with us your first time in front of the camera. What do you remember the most from that experience? I started working when I was pretty young. Those early experiences kind of blur together. I do know that I was always in awe of how many people need to come together to make a set work. I still bring that admiration and respect to all members of the crew and remember that I am part of a group of people that are all necessary to bring a story from script to screen. As an actor, what do you look most forward to when joining a new set/cast? It's always like the first day of school! it's fun to come together with a group of talented actors and artists. The situation always seems new and fresh but familiar simultaneously. I have made some of my best friends through cast mates and crew members.

You’ve worked with talented directors and producers before. What are the most important lessons you have learned from them? I have had the privilege to work with a lot of accomplished and talented individuals. I think the qualities that I am most aware of and attracted to are pretty basic. There are a lot of things in life and work that you cant control. You can choose to work hard and treat those around you with respect. The people I know who are successful feel the same. What are your favorite things to do when you’re not working? I love spending time with my family and living a happy, healthy lifestyle. I love Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and have been training since I was 17. Do you have any unique pre-show rituals you like to do ? I wouldn't call it a ritual. I have a pre-show curse. No matter how long I have been acting I always get day one anxiety. I typically cant' sleep the night before my first day on a new job. If you were a superhero, what would be your power? I would definitely choose flight. I think I would save a lot of time waiting in line at the airport and my travel schedule would be more climate conscious if I didn't have to fly in planes. What’s your best accent or character impression? I don't know if it's my BEST impression but my favorite is definitely Arnold Schwarzenegger. I may or may not occasionally converse with Uber drivers only as Arnold.

SARAH SILVA YOUNG HOLLYWOOD

SARAH SILVA IS HERE TO STAY The young Latin American starlet, Sarah Silva, has made waves in Mexico and is now about to take over back in her home, the United States. From fashion to music to utilizing social media to the best of its ability, Silva is having a strong impact on her generation. Her bi-cultural background allows her to have an even more open perspective on the world and inspires her through her music, fashion, and more. If you haven’t already heard of her, mark my words...you are about to. We can't wait to see what other projects he has planned for the new year! You started your career at such a young age. When did you know that you wanted to pursue a singing career?

You’re very active on social media. What’s your favorite way to interact with your followers?

Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to do something in the entertainment industry. Around age 5, I wanted to be a model because of this Latina American beauty pageant show. Then in kindergarten I learned “God Bless America” and since then I haven’t stopped singing. I traded singing for modeling. What also influenced me to pursue a career in the music industry was my family. During reunions my aunts, grandparents, and dad would always sing so in a way this motivated me. It made me realize that music is what I aspire to do.

I love expressing myself on social media. It’s a way to show people who you are with your words, fashion, day-to-day living, etc. My favorite thing is that it’s a free space where you can find and give inspiration to others. This is the reason I try to be as genuine and authentic as I can on social media because someone might be inspired by just that. At the end of the day, I think that being who you really are is what matters.

As you produce different music styles, where do you get your biggest inspiration from? Since I am bi-cultural I have a lot of picking and choosing when it comes to deciding my musical style. There are so many ways to go with it! Growing up in the American and Latin American cultures I have a taste of both sides of the musical cultures. In my music I am devoted to incorporating both sides of my roots because it’s who I am and when people listen to my music I want to portray the beauty of both ethnicities. I want to let people have a taste of how wonderful the two worlds are when they are meshed together. Name someone in your life who you look up to and tell us why. I really admire my parents, the way they try to make the best of each day is mesmerizing. They do everything they can to help my brothers and I achieve our dreams and goals. I have learned so much from them and I wouldn’t change that for anything. Everything I do is because of them, for them, and I hope someday I can repay all the kindness they have shown me.

Share with us how living in two different cultures has impacted who you are as a person. How has it impacted who you are as a singer? Being Mexican American is something that has impacted my life, but mostly my career since day one. It will always continue to impact my life mostly because I began my career in Latin America. That’s where I got my start in the music business. Both are completely different and have shaped the way I see the world today. I see being bi-cultural as a plus factor for the music I create because I can express myself in both languages and styles. You’ve already accomplished so much in your home country of Mexico; what do you hope to do/see in the US? The U.S. is my home country, but I have Hispanic roots. That is why I began my career in Mexico City. I honestly have no limits on where I want to expand my career and I want to go as far as I can go with this. Some life goals I have would be to perform on Broadway and have my own world tour.

Tell us more about your hobbies. I have so many hobbies I wish I could do them all in one day! Some of my favorites would be songwriting, playing ukulele, piano, editing videos, and I’m learning how to produce my own music. I’m finding producing to be very interesting and entertaining! What kind of music was always playing in your house? There was always a wide variation of music playing at my house. Ranging from Cumbia, Latin America and to Anglo 80’s music. Principally, those are the two style which I like incorporating into my music. So yes, I can say that my family influenced my musical taste. Tell us more about your fashion style. Apart from my music, fashion would be one of the most significant ways that I express myself. I don’t have a certain style I stick to because I take it day-byday based on how I’m feeling and what I want to express that day. What I find most amusing about fashion is scouting and playing around with different variations of colorful and unique pieces of clothing. You’re starting off 2020 strong, what do you hope to accomplish this year? I have a bucket list of things I want to accomplish this year. I really want to get more into producing so I’ve been wanting to create a little home studio. This way I have more flexibility when deciding the types of sounds I want to incorporate in my music. I’m also going to be putting out a lot more music than I did last year. I’m very excited to see what I connected with this year and for everyone to listen. Stay on the lookout for my new music!
