OCTOBER 2018 I am starting this letter while in NYC for Fashion Week. We are here of course catching up to the latest trends, and there I say overindulging in some pretty amazing food. Even important meetings cannot stop us from exploring the culinary wonders of the city. All this did not stop us from closing deals, bringing even more fashion brands into our Bello world , as well as welcoming some exciting new magazines into the group.

But lets get back to BELLO and its cover boy Spencer Boldman. Arthur Galvao had a pleasure creating this exciting fashion story with one of the leads of Cruise while stylist Sébastien Hohl brought an incredible selection of F/W fashion to make this editorial a style guide to the modern man. By the time you read this letter, the movie will be already in theaters, and Spencer will be getting noticed for his talent and handsomeness around the world.

This issue is here to remind us how collaborative creative efforts bring people together. You will find in here photoshoots from around the world, an exclusive shoot and interview with Riverdale’s Marisol Nichols, Crazy Rich Asian's Fiona Xio, Luke Benward and much more…

I am finishing this letter in Los Angeles, a week after receiving some difficult and sad news that shook our lives upside down. Our dear friend and amazing model Guy Preston has passed away in an unfortunate accident, and we are preparing a very special tribute for our next issue.

Tell us about the journey you’ve had with the film leading up to the giant impact that the film has made.

We each had our personal history and this film tied our future together. I started out being afraid to take on the personal challenge of a controversial character for Asia. But it has since uplifted me and given me a new insight and being proud of my craft as an actor.

And as the mahjong scene between Michelle Yeoh and Constance Wu sums it up so nicely. That every girl should know their own worth and know that we are enough. It’s been such an overwhelming experience to be part of something so much larger than ourselves too! For a historical movement in Hollywood to pave the way for more asian centric stories to be told and what crazy box office victories and love we have been getting!! We are so beyond blessed!!

Tell us about your character in CRAZY RICH ASIANS? How did you learn to adapt to your character? any difficulties?

I play Kitty Pong. The fun loving life of the party with Amy Winehouse hair. The higher the hair the closer to God! She is the “pretty woman “ of our generation. The most vulnerable and raw character who wears her heart on her sleeves. Her character arc in the most volatile and has the most change in Kevin Kwan’s trilogy. You’d see her development to a powerful society darling in book two and three. And of course, the iconic scene of her bidding for a hundred million dollar painting with two Russian wolfhounds! Fans are eagerly waiting for that in movie 2.

Do any of the characters in the movie resemble anyone in your family or group of friends.

I gained a new family after this movie. This new bond is ultimate bliss. And yes one too many real life characters from the film. It’s uncanny. And will always remain a secret.

Can you describe to me a favorite memory of yours in filming?

Dancing on the TOP of MBS with the entire cast having a real blast. Jon Chu basically only needed to hide the cameras and captured the real deal.

You have had many endorsement and campaigns with brands such as YSL Beauty, Fendi, Cartier and more. How does it feel to be branded the “princess” of Singapore?

You’re someone who has traveled and lived internationally. Tell us something the US is missing that Singapore can offer.

My childhood local foods!!! Like the crazy hawker scene in Crazy Rich Asians! We have a huge variety of cheap and amazing local fare like chicken rice, laksa, black pepper crabs, satay and it’s always open til late! There’s something for everyone! Even Michelin starred opulent restaurants!!

I definitely love the vibe and how forth coming Americans are! Asians are slightly more reserved. It was so refreshing to go for audience surprises with Ken Jeong, Awakfina, Kevin Kwan, Jimmy O Yang , Nina Jacobson and Ronnie Chieng and have the whole theatre respond so wildly and have an influx of Long heartfelt messages about how they loved the film and the movement. It was so empowering and heart warming.

At BELLO, we are a fashion and lifestyle magazine. Tell me more about your style. Has it changed since you moved to the states.

It’s always a reflection of what goes on within. In all that chaos there is a cosmos and it’s fun to have gossamer threads express that inner emotions. Be it dark, fluid or whatever it may evoke.

You’ve definitely had quite the journey as an actress and powerful woman, both in your career and personal life. Tell us what inspires you as an actress and as a woman throughout those years? Any words of advice for your fans?

It’s a constant journey to grow and evolve, to continue being curious and kind. Always appreciate the moment and the people around you. We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share.This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.

Tell me about one of your favorite roles you have played recently.

What made it different from the others?

Just finished working on a very dramatic piece. I'm not sure what I can say about it yet, but the script is very dialogue heavy and very intense. It was definitely one of the hardest and most rewarding experiences I've had yet.

DUMPLIN, coming out in November 2018, is one of your most recent projects. How was your experience on set and working with the other actors?

Amazing. Danielle is a star and all the young women around her were equally as talented. It's a very well-rounded cast and a very well directed film. Working with Anne Fletcher was a dream.

What role did you play and how did you enjoy it?

I play the love interest of the film, Bo. I loved playing this character, just a good ole southern boy.

You have supported “Saving Innocence,” “Thirst Project,” and “the TJ Martell Foundation.” What prompted you to get into charity work?

My parents began my involvement with TJ Martell when I was a kid and taught me the importance of being aware and active in the world. Thirst is one I have just recently gotten involved with but love how they are changing the world.

When you were young, what did you dream of becoming?

I remember always running around as a secret agent and that sort of thing, but I've been acting for so long, I've just always wanted to do that.

There are a few musicians in your family. Do you sing as well?

I do. I sang a bit when I was a kid, but the music business is not for me. I love singing though, Phantom of the opera is one of my dream roles.

If you could have picked to play in any movie, which movie would you have wanted to be in?
