Give back to Pleasant Hill during Community Service Day The Civic Action Commission invites people of all ages from Pleasant Hill and beyond to take part in one of the City’s most treasured traditions, Community Service Day, on Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. For more than 20 years, this annual event has brought people together to make a difference and strengthen our community. Residents, businesses and community groups are encouraged to prticipate by lending a hand on projects throughout the city. The day begins with the annual volunteer breakfast at Pleasant Hill Park, hosted by the Pleasant Hill Lions Club. Volunteers can enjoy breakfast, meet their project leaders, and pick up a free Community Service Day T-shirt before heading to project sites across the city. This year's projects include:

Help fight hunger during Community Service Day Residents have two opportunities to help fight hunger during Pleasant Hill's annual Community Service Day on Saturday, September 19. The City of Pleasant Hill, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA), and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano are teaming up to "Fill the Bus" with food donations for local families in need. A CCTA bus will be stationed at the corner of Cleaveland Road and Gregory Lane, near Pleasant Hill Park, from 7:30 a.m. to noon, where volunteers will collect nonperishable food donations. The Pleasant Hill Police Department is also partnering with Grocery Outlet and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano to host a food drive from 9 a.m. to noon ouside Grocery Outlet, 1671 Contra Costa Blvd. Officers will be on hand to collect unexpired, nonperishable food items. All donated food will help support local families facing food insecurity. Whether you're volunteering on a Community Service Day project or simply stopping by to make a donation, every contribution helps make a difference. Together, the leasant Hill community can help stock local food banks and ensure neighbors have access to nutritious meals.

News fromthe City... New police vehicle supports efforts to reduce impaired driving

Pleasant Hill Farmers’ Market is now accepting SNAP! The Contra Costa Certified Farmers' Market in Pleasant Hill is now accepting SNAP/EBT benefits, giving local families an easier way to buy fresh, farm-grown food. SNAP, also known as CalFresh in California, is now available at the market—giving lowincome households access to healthy ingredients without sacrifice. Shoppers can bring their EBT card to the information booth located in the center of the market, where benefits can be traded for tokens accepted by participating vendors. Tokens can be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, meats, breads, and seeds. The market is open year-round every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Trelany Road adjacent to Pleasant Hill City Hall, 100 Gregory Lane. Shoppers can see who's at the market each week at CCCFM.org. The mission of Contra Costa Certified Farmers' Markets is to support the development of local sustainable farming by cultivating vibrant farmers' markets. The markets serve as community gathering places, celebrating local farmers, food producers, and artisans through events and educational outreach that promote healthy living and conscientious food choices. Since opening the first weekend of May, the CCCFM team has been committed to creating a space where all residents of Pleasant Hill can gather for just that. From free community yoga on the lawn to seasonal recipes and education at the concierge booth, the team is always planning new activities to engage local families—with seasonal holiday events on the way this fall. The farmers' market is a place for everyone!

Residents may notice a new Pleasant Hill Police Department vehicle patrolling local streets in the coming weeks. The vehicle is part of the department's ongoing commitment to keeping our community safe through participation in a state-funded impaired driving enforcement grant. The grant provides funding for a comprehensive approach to reducing impaired driving, including the purchase of a new dedicated enforcement vehicle, updated traffic safety equipment, advanced training for officers, public education and community engagement initiatives, and specialized enforcement operations focused on identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways. These grant-funded resources allow the department to enhance traffic safety efforts without impacting the City's General Fund. Throughout the year, officers will conduct targeted DUI enforcement patrols and participate in statewide traffic safety campaigns aimed at preventing crashes caused by alcohol and drug impairment. Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable traffic collisions and serious injuries. Through education, enforcement, and community partnerships, the Pleasant Hill Police Department remains committed to making our streets safer for everyone. If you see the new vehicle around town, know that it represents an investment in public safety and our continued efforts to reduce impaired driving and save lives.

Parking citation updates support safer streets In July, the City of Pleasant Hill and the Pleasant Hill Police Department updated the City's parking citation penalties following a careful review of local parking regulations and enforcement needs. Th updated penalties are now more comparable to those in surrounding cities, helping ensure Pleasant Hill's parking enforcement remains consistent with neighboring communities. Parking laws play an important role in keeping streets safe and accessible. Properly parked vehicles help improve traffic flow, increase visibility for drivers and pedestrians, and ensure emergency vehicles can access neighborhoods when needed. Parking regulations are especially important around schools, where safe parking and driving practices help protect students and families during busy drop-off and pick-up times. As part of the update, the minimum parking citation penalty increased to $50, with other parking citation penalties adjusted accordingly. The changes are not intended to generate revenue. Rather, they help ensure parking regulations remain effective and encourage compliance, allowing the City to continue prioritizing public safety, neighborhood accessibility and the safety of children near schools.

City receives finance award for 34th year The City of Pleasant Hill has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2025. Pleasant Hill launches Climate Action Plan resources for residents The City of Pleasant Hill has taken a major step toward a more sustainable future with the adoption of its first Climate Action Plan (CAP) in April 2026. The plan outlines strategies and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, meet California's climate goals, and build a more resilient community. The full Climate Action Plan is available at www.phillca.gov/CAP2025. As one of the first implementation steps, the City has launched a new Rebates, Incentives, and Resources webpage to help residents and businesses take advantage of programs

that support energy efficiency and sustainability projects. Available resources include BayREN's EASE Home Program and MCE's Home Energy Savings Program, which offer incentives for qualifying energy upgrades to single-family homes. Senate Bill 1383 requires local jurisdictions to monitor contamination and proper sorting of organics and recycling by performing route audits and contamination checks. Republic Services employees may be in your neighborhood throughout the year performing “lid-flips” and looking into your carts for proper sorting. No bags are opened, and no contents are touched; auditors may leave an educational “OOPS” tag if something should have gone into a different cart. Thank you to the residents whose carts were audited in August—most did a great job sorting the proper materials in each cart. Here are a few sorting suggestions based on these audits: S DO NOT BAG RECYCLABLES. If you collect your recycling in bags, please empty the contents into your RECYCLE cart and place the bag in the GARBAGE cart. S NO PLASTIC BAGS IN YOUR ORGANICS CART. Only BPICertified compostable bags (that meet ASTM 6400 Standard) should be placed in your green ORGANICS cart. Paper bags may also be used. S CLEAN PAPER AND CARDBOARD SHOULD BE PLACED IN YOUR RECYCLE CART. Food-soiled, unlined (not shiny) paper and cardboard—such as paper towels, napkins, and pizza boxes—should be placed in your green ORGANICS cart.

Service reminders S

Place carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day. Lids must be closed—you may be charged for overflowing material. S Keep carts 3 feet apart from other carts and vehicles. S If you have extra material, schedule a free cleanup! Residents have two (2) garbage cleanups, three (3) recycling/green waste cleanups, and two (2) bulky item pickups per year at no additional cost. Cleanups must be scheduled in advance; call Customer Service at (925) 6854711 for more information or to schedule. S

PHCF opens grant applications and honors local leaders The Pleasant Hill Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its Fall Community Grant Program through October 1. Local nonprofits, schools, community groups, and service organizations serving Pleasant Hill are encouraged to apply. Earlier this year, the Foundation awarded nearly $55,000 in grants supporting more than 30 local programs and initiatives, including youth sports, senior services, education, cultural celebrations, and family support programs. During its 9th annual Celebrate Your Community event in May, the Foundation also recognized community leaders making a difference in Pleasant Hill. This year's Holmes Family Awards honored Lyone Conner of the City of Pleasant Hill and Ainsley Pearce of the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District for their dedication to the community. The Foundation also posthumously presented the Cornerstone Award to Jim Utz and Rita Utz in recognition of their lasting legacy of service, leadership, and generosity. Learn more about the grant program and apply online at PHCommunityFoundation.org. Lyone Conner received Holmes Family Award. 4 4 5 5 5 6,7
