ThesearemunicipalelectionsbasedonamapoftheCitythathasspecific geographicboundaries(districts)drawnintoallowdiversecommunitiesopportunityforfairrepresentationinCityGovernment.Thisisachangefromthe currentat-largesysteminwhichCityCouncilmembersservetheCityasawhole.

WhyisPleasantHillchangingfromat-largetodistrictbased?

TheCityreceivedwrittennoticetotransitiontoadistrict-basedsystem pursuanttotheCaliforniaVotingRightsAct(CVRA).UndertheCVRA,theCity has135daysafterreceivingthewrittennoticetostructureadistrictmapprovidingcommunitiesofvaryingracesandethicitiesabetteropportunityforfair representation,orpotentiallyfacelitigation.

Afterthethirdpublichearing,ademographerhiredbytheCityofPleasant Hillwillusecensusdataandotherinformationtocreatethemaps.TheCity anticipateshavingdraftmapsavailableonApril24thwithmaphearingstentativelyscheduledforMay1,2023(attheregularCityCouncilmeeting),May6, 2023(2:00p.m.)atCityHall,andMay22,2023(attheregularCityCouncil meeting).TheCityCouncilisscheduledtoadoptthemapsofthenewdistricts inJune.

Downtown tree replacement underway

Shoppersdowntownwillbeseeing somenewgreenerygoinginasatree replacementprojectcontinues.

TheDowntownStreetTreeReplacementProject,locatedalongCrescentDrive, betweenBoydRoadandContraCostaBoulevard,willgivethedowntownavibrant newlook,andimprovethehealthand wellbeingofourstreettrees.

Theprojectwillremoveandreplace existingdamagedsidewalk;replace66 BradfordPeartrees;augmenttreewell sizestoensuretreehealthandgrowth; upgradetheexistingirrigationsystemand soil;andinstallpermeablepavers.

Phase1,affectingCrescentDrive betweenContraCostaBoulevardandCrescentPlaza,isexpectedtobegininsummer 2023andwillbeapproximately3-4months induration.Thisprojectisfundedbyapartnershipwiththedowntownproperty owner,MeasureKandAssessmentDistrict 20funds.

Types of care facilities for seniors —CamieHansen,CommissiononAging Determiningthemostappropriatelevelof careandhousingforaseniorcanbecomplicated.Belowisalistofoptions:

Independentliving. Manyprefertoremainin theirownhome,sometimeswiththeassistanceoffamilymembersorpaidcareproviders.Thisoptionallowsforahigherlevel ofindependenceandprivacy,butalsocanbemuchmoreisolating.

Assistedlivingfacilities usuallyprovideresidentswiththeirown apartmentsorrooms,aswellascommonareas.Theyoffer around-the-clockstaffingandarangeofservicesusuallyincludingmeals,housekeepingandlaundry.Mostofferonsiteevents andactivitiesforresidents.

Roomandboardcarehomes areoftenlocatedinresidentialareas,andarefrequentlyoccupiedbyafamilyorcaregiversas well.Inadditiontoprovidingaplacetolive,thesehomesmay alsooffersomecareassistance,andincludemeals.Thesehomes areusuallysmall,withonlyafewresidents.

Nursinghomes providemorein-depthresidentialcareofelderly ordisabledpersons.Theyaretypicallyaplaceforthosewho don’tneedtobeinahospital,buthavecareneedswhichrequire additionalservicessuchasmedicalcare,orspecializedtherapies providedbyprofessionals.

Memorycarehomes arefullystaffed,long-termcarefacilities thatprovideintensive,specializedcareforpeoplewithmemory issues.

Followingseveralmonthsofstorms bringingmuchneededrainandsnowto California,atitsApril5,2023,Boardmeeting,ContraCostaWaterDistrict(CCWD) tookactiontoofficiallymodifyits DroughtManagementProgram.The temporarydroughtsurchargewas removedandmostwateruseprohibitionswereliftedconsistentwithstate mandates.

CCWDthanksallcustomersfortaking additionalstepstoconservewaterunder extendeddroughtconditions.Your effortstousewaterefficientlyhave helpedusstretchthewaterbankedin LosVaquerosReservoirtorespondto emergencies.AttheendofMarch,Los VaquerosReservoirheldmorethan31billiongallonsofwater,orjustmorethan 60%ofitscapacity.Throughthespring storms,CCWDhasbeenabletodivert waterfromtheDeltatoreplenishwhat wasusedfromLosVaquerostomeet demandsandtoensureweareprepared forfutureshortages.
