Flourishing Flooring, Mercantile Magic & Well Wishes

Meet Scott and Nikole Tatum, a dynamic couple who proudly call Gatesville their home. With five beautiful children –four daughters and one son, spanning ages 4 to 21 – they've built a loving family at the heart of their beloved town.

Following in his father's footsteps and having been involved in the construction business from an early age, Scott's expertise and passion for working with wood led him to specialize in flooring. Over 20 years ago, he found his niche in flooring and decided to venture into self-employment, establishing Hometown Floors in 2013. With the store's inception in 2019, Scott takes pleasure in assisting customers through every step of their flooring projects, from selecting their favorite materials to the final installation. His commitment extends beyond business, as he enjoys actively engaging with the community and providing support to others in any way he can.

Nikole has dedicated her career to nursing and has been an invaluable part of a local long-term care facility for over 25 years. Throughout her career, she has taken on various roles, from charge nurse to administrative nurse, and finds fulfillment in not only caring for her patients but also offering support to their families.

Their combined passion for their hometown and their desire to support the community led them to take an interest in the property known as 1854. Envisioning a mercantile store that would showcase a diverse range of products from local vendors, they were captivated by the idea of owning such a shop in their beloved hometown. The name "1854" holds special significance as it commemorates the founding year of Coryell county. At 1854, they aim not only to celebrate the essence of Gatesville and Coryell County but also the great state of Texas. Their shared excitement reaches its peak during football season, as they rally behind their beloved Gatesville Hornets.

The mission of 1854 is to provide a one-of-a-kind shopping experience by offering eclectic and high-quality items, backed by excellent customer service and reasonable prices. A visit to the store is always a delightful surprise, with a diverse range of products including clothing, handmade soaps, artesian olive oils, and much more, catering to a wide audience. Supporting the local community is at the heart of their enterprise, and they actively involve themselves in various ways to strengthen and uplift their hometown.

As 1854 continues to flourish, Scott and Nikole have grand aspirations for its growth. They plan to expand the store's offerings, incorporating an even wider selection of items and working with more local vendors. Furthermore, their vision includes hosting numerous community events, inviting everyone to partake in the joyous atmosphere they've created. Their belief is that investing in the local community benefits everyone involved. To spread the charm of their little town even further, they are diligently working on creating a website that reaches not just surrounding communities but also beyond, welcoming all who wish to experience the beauty of Gatesville.

A significant contributor to their success is the exceptional marketing director, Susie Meelbusch, who plays a vital role in promoting the store's offerings and events. In addition to Susie, the store boasts a wonderful lineup of vendors: Lisa Barnard with Lawsons, Rena Mitchell with Gypsy Rooster, Stephanie Sohns with Country Crafts with Love, Chelsea Shults with Prickly Diamond Designs, Sissy Leonard with Chic Tees, Clifton Clary with Clary Customs, Tracy Haferkamp with Faith Alone, and Bryna Dixon with Design By Bryn. The store also takes pride in its own selection of products, including Case brand Knives, Bruemate drinkware and coolers, an extensive array of clothing and apparel, and locally made items and food. To showcase the community's spirit, they always feature local models and actively promote local events and businesses, as they firmly believe in the idea of reaping what they sow into their beloved community.

Scott has recently partnered with Tracy Haferkamp and Jacob Woods to bring Gatesville and the surrounding areas J&S Pump and Well Service, LLC. With their expertise spanning all aspects of well and drilling services, you can trust them to handle your projects with utmost skill and knowledge. When it comes to ensuring the longevity of your well, they understand that two primary factors play a crucial role: being experts in the field and prioritizing high-quality construction, coupled with regular maintenance. Their professionals are committed to safeguarding the health and efficiency of your well for the long haul.

The Tatum family's connection to Gatesville runs deep, as they were both born and raised in this charming Texas town. Their contribution through Hometown Floors and 1854 reflects their genuine love for the community and their desire to support it in every possible way.
