2nd Street Bakeshop & Coffee Co
Located in historic Hico, Texas, 2nd Street Bakeshop & Coffee Co. is housed in an 1885 home serving hot & cold drinks including coffee, tea, fruit smoothies and more. Their baked goods are hand made from scratch in house using only the freshest ingredients. They keep their cases full of both sweet and savory treats to satisfy your cravings any time of day.
2nd Street was originally opened in May of 2017 as 2nd Street Provisions, a restaurant, butcher shop, and coffee shop. It was a place to get great coffee and food made with only the freshest ingredients. 2nd Street Provisions closed at the end of 2019 to make way for 2nd Street Bakeshop and Coffee Co. They still serve great coffee and food, but now their focus is centered on being a full service bakery and coffeeshop.

When entering 2nd Street Bakeshop & Coffee Co. there is an immediate feeling of being exactly where you need to be. If it is a coffee boost you’re searching for, a refreshing tea or a step back in time to a good cold bottled drink, they have it all, plus some. They are a complete coffee and tea shop from Mocchiatos, Frappes and more to a tea house with an extensive menu, and they don’t stop there. There is even a list of extras available for you to choose from such as creams, milks or syrups. Something worth remembering while you’re there is they also carry the old fashioned bottled drinks including some of the Dublin bottled favorites. If you are in the mood for a bite to eat, their menu allows you a twist on some favorite tastes - something very familiar and something a little different all at once. The Veggie Calzone was a treat with just the right mixture of veggies for a perfect no meat meal. It boasts mushrooms, bell peppers, spinach, black olives, caramelized onions, mozzarella and parmesan served with either marinara or pesto; it was described as a “simply perfect pizza in a pie form”. One of our burger loving girls chose the cheeseburger hand pie which could easily be anyone’s favorite. It included ground beef, bacon, cheddar, dill pickle, onion and tomato (regular or gluten free) with ketchup or mustard. We also tried a good standard, the 2nd Street Sandwich which consisted of ham, turkey, pastrami, swiss, cheddar, monterey jack cheese and Dijon mustard. It was a big hit as well. Next time, we are making sure to try the Tuscan hand pie with grilled chicken, sun dried tomato, spinach, mozzarella and garlic aioli (gluten free) served with pesto. Our mouths are watering just thinking about trying it. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
When seating yourself in any desired room, you may want to choose to sit near a fireplace, a large family dining room, maybe outside or on the enclosed porch, possibly even in the kids play room, or maybe at the Tic Tac Toe table, but in every case you will have a very unique and fun place to sit and enjoy yourself. Among the different seating rooms to choose from, you also have a choice of seating styles from benches or chairs to plush chairs or couches. The atmosphere is unique and quaint which we simply loved.
If you are ever in the need of venue space, look no further - host your special event at 2nd Street Bakeshop & Coffee Co. 2nd Street is housed in a Victorian style home built in 1885 - it’s a special place that feels like home. All of the rooms have been beautifully restored to show the original woodwork, floors, shiplap walls and solid wood ceilings.
Upstairs you will find a new beautifully renovated guest suite, available for short term rental. The suite includes a full four piece bathroom, a sitting room with a daybed that converts to a king, and a bedroom with a queen sized-bed.
After making your way up the staircase you are greeted by a cozy living area allowing for extra bed space, game space, or room to just visit. To one side there is an inviting and comfortable bedroom area with everything oversized and dreamy. It is well appointed and yet created to be a stress free zone. To the other side is the absolute most unique bathroom you could likely ever find. Personally I could camp in the enclosed shower/bathtub area and never want to leave. There is a luxury soaking tub calling your name behind a glass door. If you need a shower - no problem, there just happens to also be a huge shower head jetting from the ceiling to accommodate both needs. Having the option for a steam bath or shower creates your own personal little enclosed enclave.
The entire bed and breakfast space just feels like a personal touch of home crossed with a relaxing retreat. Thanks to a home intereior design mind, every square inch of the B&B area is both useful and decorated to perfection to bring you the best of everything in every detail all with a touch of class. Book today to experience the historic charm and unique hospitality of a stay at 2nd Street.
