Paul Hopson is one of 6 candidates running for Coryell County Commissioner in Precinct 3. The seat has been held by incumbent Don Jones, who is not seeking re-election after completing his term and serving the community for the last 21 years. “Don has served our community well, and I will strive to continue enriching the lives of families in Coryell County,” stated Hopson.

Paul graduated from Tarleton State University in 2010 with a Business of Science in Ag Economics and a Minor in Economics. Paul has served on the Ag Industries Committee for Coryell County since 2012. The committee is made up of farmers, ranchers, landowners and businessmen, who come together to help promote and educate the county on ag related programming. In 2017, Paul was elected to the Coryell County Farm Bureau Board, a position he still maintains.

Paul and his wife, Rachel Edwards Hopson, live on their family farm in Mound, where he was born, raised, and taught the values of hard work and strong morals. They now pass those teachings and traditions on to their two sons, Noah, 3, and Benjamin, born last November. Rachel is also a Gatesville native and graduated from Gatesville High School in 2010. She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor School of Nursing in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Rachel works as a charge nurse in the emergency department at Baylor Scott & White in Temple. She is currently enrolled in a Masters Program at Frontier Nursing University to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Rachel hopes to be able to use her degree to serve our community improving overall health.

“As a fifth generation farmer and rancher and lifetime resident of Precinct 3, it is important to me to provide progressive leadership to move our community forward in a direction that is mutually beneficial to all residents, both rural and urban,” Paul noted. Hopson promises to manage our county finances conservatively and provide needed improvements and infrastructure, when it is in the best interest of all citizens, with the purpose of maintaining a stable economy.

The Coryell County Commissioners’ mission is to provide efficient, effective, and responsive government that achieves economic growth and safe communities for the citizens of Coryell County. If elected, Paul will work together with other members of the Commissioners’ Court to implement innovative ideas that promote growth within our community, while being fiscally responsible, so that future generations can continue to build on what we have established.
