Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Women’s History Month

resident Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation establishing the first Women’s History Month celebrated by the United States Government on March 4th, 1988. In his proclamation, President Reagan commented, “Women continue to strengthen the family and enrich our lives with intellectual gifts, creative talents, and indomitable spirit.” Every March since that year has been officially recognized as Women’s History Month in the United States. We decided to celebrate this year’s Women’s History Month by recognizing some of the amazing women in our community. The Exceptional Women in Business section of this magazine highlights the accomplishments and talents of some of the women who make Weston such a great place to live and raise a family. The contributions women have made to every field and endeavor are infinite. Accomplishments like Marie Curie’s work in physics or Rosa Parks’ bravery that ignited the civil rights movement are even more noteworthy when considering the obstacles they had to overcome. It’s heartening to see accomplished women in positions of power. Today the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel is serving her fourth term. The CEOs of companies like General Motors and Fidelity Investments are women, as are Vice President Harris and Speaker of the House Pelosi. Those leaders would certainly not be where they are today without the accomplishments of countless women before them. It reminds us of Issac Newton’s famous quote, “I have seen further by standing on the shoulders of giants.” As we reflect during this year’s Women’s History Month, we can’t help but wonder on whose shoulders our daughters and granddaughters will be standing.

AllOnHands Needed the Wheel for This Drive

ot even a pandemic can stop Harvest Drive, Inc. from assisting food insecure families in Broward County. The incredible volunteers have consistently been packing and distributing food bags to families with students in the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and other reputable social service agencies approximately every two weeks. The non-profit organization’s mission is to promote philanthropy to BCPS students while striving to educate them on the issue of hunger and empowering them to take leadership roles in lessening hunger’s devastating impact. Now in its 29th year of service, Harvest Drive, Inc. has helped thousands of families with generous donations. But as everyone knows, it takes a village, and therefore the City of Weston has partnered with the altruistic group in a

“Community Collection” effort. The City of Weston wants to supplement the non-perishable foods that Harvest Drive is purchasing for their packings. They want to provide more protein and high demand items to these families in need. Specific canned items needed are tuna, chicken, Vienna sausage, soup, black beans, and Chef Boyardee. By purchasing an extra can or two during a weekly trip to the grocery store can help alleviate hunger in our community and in Broward County. It is requested that you limit your collections to the specific items requested. Doing so ensures that the Harvest Drive team can be most effective in their planning and distribution. Bins have been placed at the following City buildings for safety and convenience:

ne of the most basic human needs is food. Yet not everyone is fortunate to be able to eat when they are hungry. Our Father’s House Soup Kitchen acknowledges this serious issue. Founded in 1989 by Jimmy and Phyllis Rotonno, the not-for-profit organization worked tirelessly to collect donations and feed the hungry and the homeless.

Since its opening, the kitchen has grown into a full-service ministry under the care of Katie Crissy. The ambitious CEO and Program Director ensures that the homeless and working poor of the neighboring community receive a hot four-course meal, plus a to-go meal five days a week. “Our overall goal is to provide nutrition and give our guests a hand up instead of a handout,” explained Crissy. Additionally, Our Father’s House provides food pantry items, clothing, shoes, blankets, and other necessities such as hygiene products and recycled bicycle transportation. But the resources are always limited, and assistance is always needed and appreciated. Jordan Fiedel of Weston first noticed the homeless on the New York City streets when he was young and has since been sensitive to the plight of the homeless and the hungry. He watched his mother volunteer for this shelter and wanted to help. Oftentimes, he would accompany her on his days off from school to obtain service hours while doing a good deed. The Pine Crest student saw firsthand the true need for what many of us take for granted. “I always knew I was fortunate. But when I volunteered at the kitchen, I understood how truly lucky I am. I have a roof over my head, a warm bed to sleep in every night, and clean clothes to wear. I eat when I want to, but there are so many who cannot,” said Fiedel. Not being able to volunteer amid the pandemic had the astute eleventh-grader wondering how to still help the shelter and the people who rely upon it. He decided that making sandwiches and delivering them would be the next best thing to being there. Initially he made and delivered 150 himself twice a month, but since he has recruited his friends and other moms in the neighborhood to also participate. “I love that a simple PB&J can make someone’s day better. I have a newfound appreciation for the simpler things in life after seeing all the smiles I receive from my lunch deliveries,” added Fiedel.

Broward Center Selects 2020-2021 Teen Ambassadors

his year’s Teen Ambassador Program at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts has gone virtual. In an effort to keep everyone safe, the Broward Center will be conducting the program via the internet. During this year’s program, 23 high school students representing 15 public, private, and home schools in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties have been selected as Broward Center Teen Ambassadors for the 2020-2021 season. For more than 10 years, the Teen Ambassador program has been fostering the next generation of performing arts fans. During this unique year, the select group of high school performing arts enthusiasts will attend monthly workshops on Zoom to enhance their knowledge of the arts and enjoy learning from a wide range of guest speakers covering different performing arts topics. Weston World Fest goes

“DRIVE THRU”! F

or the past five years, the annual celebration of world countries and international culture known as Weston World Fest has been something you can only experience close up. Then Covid and health protocols changed things for large public events. The Arts Council of Greater Weston came up with the perfect solution: make this year’s event a “DriveThru” experience, and invite everyone in the community to show their ancestry. The 6th annual Weston World Fest will be held on Sunday, March 7 from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. at Cypress Bay High School with a theme of “Music of the World”. While it’s a change from the usual location for the Fest, Cypress Bay provides the perfect setting for a drive-through experience. In addition to driving by colorful country booths playing music of their countries, attendees are encouraged to “show your ancestry” by decorating their cars with the country colors and flags of their family heritage. “It’s almost a double parade,” notes Event Founder and Director Carol Lema. “People will be driving by and experiencing all of our wonderful country booths, while the community attending the event can express pride in their own ancestry by decorating their cars, too. Whether you have family roots in one part of the world or many, you can decorate your own car using balloons, flags, streamers, etc. to express that.” Any community member who wishes to decorate their car before the event can assemble in the Weston branch library parking lot to decorate, and then join the event. The community is asked to remain socially distanced and use masks while decorating, and remain in their cars during the entire drive through. At the end of the “Drive-Thru” route, a colorful backdrop will await, where cars can stop momentarily and a photographer will capture attendees in their cars. Arts Council President Laura Dobrzanski says. “We are ecstatic to present such a fun and unique event that celebrates the various cultures represented in our community. The City of Weston has been a tremendous partner with us on this again this year along with other local nonprofit arts organizations such as the Weston Music Society and Weston Art Guild. Finally, coordinating an event like this would not be possible without the incredible hard work from many dedicated community volunteers who continue to support this event each year”. Annalisa Walker, Special Event Manager for The City of Weston, notes, “The City of Weston is excited to work with the Arts Council to present a drive-thru version of Weston World Fest. f you are single you make up over 45 percent of the US population. Whether unmarried, divorced, or widowed, single people have important estate planning issues to think about. If you have children, your decisions are a bit more complicated. Consider the following: Single with minor children: It is vital to designate whom you wish to serve as your child’s guardian. Think about this. Even if there is a surviving parent, they may not be your choice to serve as guardian. What about leaving assets to your minor children? Realistically, leaving an inheritance to minor children can be fraught with risks. Who manages the assets for your minor children? Should you select your ex-spouse or perhaps another family member? Often parents select one person to serve as guardian for minor children, name another individual to manage and invest assets for their children, and possibly choose a third to determine asset distributions. Single with adult children: When a child turns 18, legally he or she is fully capable of receiving their inheritance and making life decisions, such as selecting a college or managing and spending their own money. Do 401(k) and IRA accounts constitute a significant portion of your estate? Severe and irreversible tax consequences can result from careless withdrawals from these inherited assets by “young” adult beneficiaries. Do you have any concerns about your child inheriting a large amount of life insurance money? Parents of 18-year olds recognize that while their child is technically an adult, it may be much too early to expect thoughtful decisions regarding their future and their finances. Single without children: If you are single without children, keep in mind that without the existence of a properly drafted and executed will, Florida law dictates that your assets be inherited by your parents. If your parents do not survive you, your assets will be inherited by your surviving siblings. Creating a will is essential if you wish to leave your assets to anyone other than your immediate family. Illness or disability: Whether or not you have children, there are important decisions to make regarding who is authorized by you to assist with medical and financial matters should you become ill or disabled. Advance legal directives, in the form of health care powers of attorney, durable powers of attorney, living wills, and HIPAA releases, insure your bases are covered in various scenarios. Without such documents, urgent medical care, managing a business or your finances, and communicating with governmental agencies such as the IRS or Social Security Administration, may need to be determined by the court. Parenting Without a Manual By Ivis Mateos

t’s so difficult to do this thing called parenting and to do it “perfectly” without a darn manual! Knowing what is right or best for our child or what is considered great parenting as it turns out, is mostly done with a combination of instinct, good luck and a whole lot of googling lol. Let’s start out with the truth, there is NO perfect parenting, no perfect child, no perfect life regardless of what you see on the Mommies group on Facebook. Once we accept that, our journey will be much easier to accept. There are some general mistakes we make as parents, and when I say general, I say it lightly because general to someone in the United States might be completely off the table in let’s say, Asia or South America. Some of the habits that I see trending when speaking to other moms, for example, is assuming that keeping our children super busy (playing several sports/too many play-

dates) will keep them out of trouble, when in many cases the children actually become overwhelmed, stressed out and burnt out. The child begins to manifest frustration and in many cases, loss of interest in extracurricular activities. Another challenging issue we encounter as parents, is withholding information from our children about tough subjects such as bulling, sex, drugs, falling in or out of a love to name a few. I know talking about sex for example, could be terrifying, but you want to make sure that you are the one in control of the information. The one to expose them to the subject and not a stranger, the internet or even a friend their age. As a parent, we have the ability to teach any of these subjects with our value system in mind and in a safe environment where the child is comfortable asking questions or expressing their concerns. There are many many things that will unexpectedly arise when you are a parent. Stay cool, don’t overthink, take it one day at time, one breath at time! You are writing your own

manual for parenting while taking the journey with your child. Challenges build character and allows the child (and the parent) to gain wisdom and be better prepared for their adult life. Once you are done with your manual, don’t be shy and share it with a mommy friend, perhaps one of your experiences will help ease the process for another mommy and their parenting journey.

Weston Named 3rd Safest City in Florida By Jon Duka

here are many reasons people from around the country are flocking to live in Weston. One of them: we live in one of the safest cities in Florida. The website HomeSnacks ranked Weston as the third safest city in Florida. 2021 marks the highest-ranking Weston has attained since the rankings were first published in 2013. HomeSnacks claims to “paint a picture of what’s happening in a region based on

‘Friday Night Science’ — how’d you argue at a bar. To do that, they gather data from around the web to help determine a wide array of factors about where you live, things like safety, desirability, and culture.” This year’s rankings mark the seventh time the site has published its findings. Weston has been included on their list each year. Parkland was ranked first in Florida and is the only other Broward County city on the list. To determine the rankings, researchers reviewed several criteria to give a city its overall score. Cities were indexed and ranked on various crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, car theft, and arson. Weston was near the top in the state for every category. According to the survey, Weston was the sixth safest city for violent crimes and the second safest city for property crime. According to the study, Weston had 395 total crimes in 202, a rate of 459 per 100,000 people. The low crime rate puts us 78% below the national average.

In addition to Parkland and Weston, the top ten included Marco Island, Longboat Key, Flagler Beach, Sanibel, Indian Harbour Beach, North Palm Beach, Bay Harbor Islands, and Lake Alfred. Parkland’s number-one ranking returned the city to its previous position as an extremely safe place despite the horrible school shooting three years ago. The same study found the most dangerous cities in Florida to be Florida City, Lake City, and Opa Locka, in that order. In HomeSnacks’ broader “Best Places to Live” scoring, Weston ranked highly for job opportunity, housing, safety, amenities, diversity, and education, with only affordability and commute time dragging down its scores. The study criteria included median home values, median income, population density, unemployment rate, commute time, crime, education levels, health insurance coverage, and poverty rates. It noted that Weston has a population of 70,614, a median income of $107,908, a median home value of $481,80000, and an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent.

During the procedure, Dr. Donoway places fine needle probes under direct ultrasound guidance into and around the pancreatic tumor while carefully avoiding critical structures. High voltage current up to 3000 volts is then delivered in 90-microsecond pulses synchronized with the patient’s heart rhythm to avoid any cardiac problems. The pulses destroy the cancer cell membranes which then causes the tumor to die and be absorbed by the body. The average procedure lasts approximately 1-2 hours and the patients may be discharged the following day. A brief recovery means the patient can start chemotherapy and radiation that much sooner. Dr. Donoway is participating in several clinical studies identifying the best chemotherapy and immunotherapies to be used along with IRE. Dr. Donoway states, “The results so far have been very encouraging and we have begun using it for other select cancers. The longest survivors are now out over 5 years and without evidence of cancer recurrence. Renovation is in the Homestretch

Help Make a Highschool Senior’s Dream of Attending College Come True

he Rotary Club of Weston makes the dream of attending college a reality for a group of graduating high school seniors each year. These students, who don’t have the financial resources to pay for college themselves, are awarded scholarships. In fact, a majority of the scholarship recipients are the first members of their families to attend college at all. With the events surrounding the COVID19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to raise funds for the graduating class of 2021. To raise funds for these much-needed scholarships, the Rotary Club is hosting a virtual reverse raffle drawdown on Thursday, March 18th. The reverse raffle drawdown is a raffle where it is better to come in last! There are 400 tickets numbered between 1 through 400. Each number has a respective ping pong ball in a drum. The balls will be randomly pulled during the event. As numbers are pulled, they are eliminated. The last five people can decide if they want to share the pot or go for broke. If they go for broke the only ping pong ball left will identify the winner of the $10,000 Grand Prize. The raffle will be held prior to the 34th Annual Rotary Golf Classic, which will be held on Friday, April 9th. There certainly are challenges that are unique to women entering the surgical fields -both physical and emotional challenges such as Juggling your career, being an entrepreneur, and creating a business, and for many women also includes birthing your children, having a partner, and managing your household. In addition, gender discrimination is still active in the workplace, and I continue to work diligently for gender equality, specifically by mentoring young women entering the surgical field at this time. The biggest challenge for me, as a woman surgeon, and mother of five children, has been to balance time for my career, as well as time for raising my kids and being an active presence in their lives. This is honestly a challenge that many women face today. I have been able to dance this delicate dance by working in solo private practice and managing my own time commitments and schedule.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG WOMEN?

Explore and find what your heart wants to do in this life, and if the answer is becoming a surgeon, go for it! If the answer is becoming a surgeon, go for it! Over the years, I’ve benefitted from guidance I received as a young professional from great leaders who allowed me opportunities based on ability rather than gender. I am forever grateful to these leaders and pay it forward by mentoring young women who are also trying to succeed. I am fortunate to work for a company that invests heavily in women development and have personally benefitted from exposure to multiple Leadership Development Programs that enhances women experience in the Company.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG WOMEN?

First, education opens the gateway to opportunity. I would encourage people to pursue their education even if they have to go part time while they are working; second, everyone should find a mentor to help her navigate the culture of the company or organization that you are working in. Finally, find a networking group. It doesn’t have to be formal. Exposure to different perspectives, ideas and viewpoints will go so far in your career.

oad and traffic safety includes considerations for people of all ages. Parents and caregivers need to understand how to keep their families safe in and around vehicles. Florida law requires the use of seat belts for drivers, front-seat passengers, and all children riding in a car under age 18. Florida law also requires children age five and under be secured correctly in a crash-tested, federally approved child restraint device or car seat. Children under age 12 should only ride in the back seat since deployed front seat airbags may be dangerous to children. Parents can model safe driving behaviors that can help set positive examples and rules for teen drivers. Traffic crashes are estimated to be the eighth leading cause of death for people of all ages and are the leading cause of preventable injuries and deaths among teenagers and children in the United States. Studies show that teens are 3X more likely to be involved in traffic crashes, with most teen crashes resulting from driver

distractions and speeding. As teens approach driving age, parents should establish safe driving rules that include distraction-free driving, not allowing extra passengers, following speed limits, no impaired driving, and always wearing a seat belt. Parents or Caregivers of teen drivers should also be aware of Florida’s Graduated Driver’s License Laws, which include driving age, time, and passenger restrictions. For more information on teen driver safety, join the BSOFR Public Education Team for their virtual education presentation Teen Driver Safety on March 18th at 3:00 pm. Correctly used child safety seats can further reduce the risk of child deaths by 71 percent. More than half of the car seats purchased are not being used or are installed incorrectly. Selecting the right car seat, using it in the correct direction and location in the vehicle, and properly installing it are essential considerations for parents. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue (BSOFR) Public Education Team of Certified Child Passenger Safety

Technicians can assist parents/caregivers with car seat installations. Virtual car seat appointments are available online at https:// BSOFireRescuePublicEducation.as.me/. Another important safety consideration for parents of small children is making sure to never leave a child alone in a car. On average, every ten days, a child dies from heatstroke in a vehicle. In more than 50% of these deaths, the caregiver forgot the child was in the car. Create reminders to help you remember your child is in the car. Be sure to lock car doors when the vehicle is not in use and set rules to ensure that children do not play in or around cars, including parked cars. Additional considerations may be needed to ensure that drivers are appropriately fitted to their vehicles as we age. Car Fit is an educational program designed by AARP, AAA, and the American Occupational Therapy Association that provides a comprehensive review of how well a person and their vehicle work together to enhance driver safety and mobility. VACCINE PROGRESS TOPS LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES

ear Weston Residents, While the Covid-19 pandemic continues to weigh heavily, there are glimmers of hope lightening the load. As of mid-January, state officials and healthcare workers are ramping up vaccine distribution, delivering over 107,000 vaccines to Florida residents, 48,000 of which directed towards Broward County alone. Yet, there is still more we must do. The Broward Delegation and I delivered a joint statement to Governor DeSantis urging him to prioritize teachers and school employees to receive the vaccine so they can safely return to school. I am also working with the State Emergency Response Team to direct more vaccines to residents ages 65 years and older as we successfully did in Century Village Pembroke Pines. While I understand that procuring a vaccine appointment has been frustrating for many, I encourage you to be patient. A new pre-registration system has been designed to hold your spot in line for a vaccine, so you can bypass the tedious registration process. If you need a vaccine, pre-register for an appointment at myvaccine.fl.gov. If you do not have internet access or prefer to register by phone, call 866-201-6313 to pre-register. You will receive a call back once appointments are available. In tandem with coordinating vaccine distributions, I am preparing for the 2021 Legislative Session beginning in early March. One of my priorities include designing legislation to address the flooding issues in west Broward County. Last November, Tropical Storm Eta crisscrossed over Broward County leaving a deluge of rain that overwhelmed our flood management infrastructure. To solve the problem, I met with representatives from the South Broward Drainage District (SBDD) and listened to their needs. In response, I filed a $150,000 appropriation to purchase 2 high capacity mobile stormwater pumps and am drafting legislation to better position our State for the fiscal impact of inland and coastal flooding. I have also filed an individual appropriation for the Town of Southwest Ranches to with deal flooding. This is an extremely tight budget year with a shortfall of $2.7 billion and I am hoping there will be funds to address these critical needs. I am also proposing a study to gather data to predict the expenditures of federal, state, regional, and local governments to guard against inland and coastal flooding from heavy rains and sea-level rise. It is past time we simply recognize flooding. Instead, we must plan policy to address what is likely to be one of the largest infrastructure expenditures in our State. As always, I am here for you. oes your son or daughter complain of heel pain daily, especially during or after activity? Do they remember any traumatic event or did the pain just occur? If this sounds like your child, there is a high probability that they have Calcaneal Apophysitis (or Sever’s Disease). This is actually a condition and not a disease. This occurs when the growth plate (apophysis) located at the bottom and back of the heel (the portion of the bone that allows growth) becomes painfully inflamed. Although plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the ligament that supports the arch) is the most common cause of heel pain in adults, it is extremely uncommon in children. Cause: ▸ Growth plate inflammation on the back and the bottom of the heel ▸ Over-activity in children commonly between the ages of 8 and 14 ▸ Tight muscles in the lower extremity, especially

the calf muscle ▸ Flatfeet ▸ Poor shoe gear or walking barefoot ▸ Growth spurts

Symptoms:

▸ Discomfort in the heel bone at the end of activity ▸ Occasionally painful to the Achilles and ankle ▸ Stiffness in the foot in the morning and pain with walking or running ▸ Pain alleviated by rest and a decrease in activity ▸ Pain is usually present during or after a child is done with the activity, sits for a period of time, and then tries to get up and walk

▸ Tenderness to the back and bottom of the heel with touch or grasping the heel ▸ Walking on the ball of the foot to avoid touching the heel to the ground ▸ Discoloration and swelling are almost never seen in the heel ▸ Limping at the end of an activity that may persist as the condition worsens

Build a Good Takeaway for a Great Golf Swing

f your first movements are wrong you can be almost sure to produce a bad swing! A good grip and a solid athletic setup are the foundation of a good golf swing. Everything you are doing right before you are starting your swing you don’t have to correct during the swing. That’s why a proper start is one of the most important keys to longer and straighter shots. There are many ways to mess your swing up early. The most common fault you can find with many golfers is when they take away their club too much to the inside too fast. This is especially true if you are coming from the outside with an open clubface – slicing the ball. It’s somewhat counter-intuitive but if you want to come more from the inside you must take your club away on a proper target line. This means that you must take your club back on a line that may be straighter than your think. You should also move the club upwards earlier than you think during your backswing to keep the club on the proper arch.

A takeaway that is early to the inside forces you to pick up your arms and club steeply to get them in the air somewhat after your takeaway. This does not only suppress a proper turn of your upper body but usually leads to a downswing that is coming from out to in into the ball leading to ugly sliced and pulled shots. This is also true if you are using your hands too much during your takeaway. The first movements of your swing are essential because your tempo and swing path ultimately result from your takeaway. Here’s what you need to focus on: Take your club away straight back along your target line the first couple of feet. The club should be slightly inside of the ball but outside of your hand-line. Take a closer look at the image. Try to think about your hands and shoulders forming a triangle that you want to move with

the big muscles of your back and shoulders. Don’t break your triangle before you’ve reached your right leg. To accomplish this, focus on moving the grip of your golf club and not your clubhead. If you move the grip and your hands towards your right thigh, the clubhead should stay outside of your hands, which is the proper path. If you keep the club and your hands, upper body and shoulders steady as one unit, you will move the clubhead on the proper swing path. Put a golf ball a foot behind the ball you want to play. Two feet behind that second ball put your bucket. You should now be able let the second ball roll softly into the bucket with your takeaway. If the rolling ball is moving the bucket you are moving back too fast. If you don’t move the second ball at all, you are missing the proper line with your takeaway. WHAT EXACTLY IS FAMILY LAW? I By Evan H. Baron, Esq.

advertise my practice as a Family Law Practice. I am often asked what does Family Law encompass? Most individuals think of Family Law as only being divorce cases. In reality, my practice involves many different types of family related issues. Here are the many types of issues that my office handles: 1. Dissolution of Marriage. This includes simple, complex, and collaborative cases. 2. Paternity Cases. A Paternity Case is necessary to establish a Father’s rights when a child is born out of wedlock. Once established, a Parenting Plan must be established. This also includes simple, complex, and collaborative cases. 3. Modifications. • Financial: Florida law allows a modification ( either an increase or a decrease of either child support or alimony) if the moving party can prove that there has been an involuntary, substantial change of circumstance in the income of either party. • Child Related: Florida law allows a modification of a Parenting Plan (time-sharing, etc.) if the moving party can prove that there has been an involuntary, substantial change of circumstance and a modification is in the minor child’s best interests. This primarily deals with time-sharing and Shared Parental Responsibility issues.

4. Contempt/Enforcement :

• Contempt: If one of the parties willfully fails to pay either court-ordered child support or alimony obligations, the Court can find that party in Contempt. To be a willful failure it must be proven that the party ordered to pay had the ability to pay but chose not to. Generally, a purge is set ( a percentage of the amount of money owed) and if not paid, incarceration is possible. If a parent willfully fails to follow the Parties Parenting Plan and interferes with a parent/child relationship ( time-sharing/decision making, etc.), a finding of Contempt can be sought. • Enforcement: Matters not subject to contempt, but still ordered by the Court, may be subject to Enforcement. Typically, this deals with Parenting Plan issues, such as late pick-ups or drop-offs or certain financial issues such as Equitable distribution of assets.

5. Relocation: Under Florida Law, a parent cannot relocate a minor child beyond 50 miles from their residence without either the written permission of the other parent or a Court Order. This is, in essence, a modification since the Parenting Plan would have to be modified if relocation were to take place. 6. Injunction: For Protection against Domestic Violence: This is commonly referred to as a Restraining Order. This can be obtained on behalf of the moving party (Husband or Wife/ Mother or Father) or on behalf of a minor child. If the court believes that there is a reasonable fear of domestic violence a temporary ex parte (without notice to the other side), an Injunction will be issued, and a hearing scheduled within 15 days. My office handles either the Petitioner (party who obtained the Injunction) or the Respondent (person who had the Injunction issued against/him her). ere are the latest housing market predictions and forecasts for 2021. The global pandemic shattered the world order and the US economy suffered its biggest blow since the Great Depression in the second quarter. The housing market briefly hit pause in March and looked to be headed into a steep decline due to widespread stay-home orders. The pandemic has affected every sector but residential real estate has been very resilient and provided a stabilizing effect for the US economy. 2020 was a record-breaking year for the US housing market. According to Zillow, in total, 5.64 million homes were sold in 2020, up 5.6% from 2019. The typical U.S. home was worth $266,104 in December, up 8.4% (or $20,587) from a year ago. According to economists and market watchers, home values are growing at their fastest pace in a generation, and are showing no signs of slowing down in 2021. Buyers have to face more competition and act more quickly than usual to snag their dream home. That’s how hot the real estate market has been throughout the pandemic. Although millions were laid off or furloughed it didn’t prevent house hunters from buying homes. Both the inventory of homes and mortgage rates are now at historic lows. The months’ supply of existing homes for sale has fallen to 1.9 months, the lowest level since the series began in 1999. With inventories this tight, it is unlikely that existing home sales can continue to rise at last year’s pace, which means there could be a little slowdown in existing sales throughout 2021. For first-time buyers, the combination of intense demand and the low mortgage rates has pushed home prices to levels that are making it difficult to save for a down payment. While we still face economic and health challenges ahead, it is no doubt that the nation will continue to recover from this pandemic and an improving economy will continue to support the housing market competition. Industry experts believe the housing market will remain strong and is set to break more records in 2021. Mortgage rates are expected to stop dropping. Rather, the National Association of Realtors expects rates to average 3.1% and the Mortgage Bankers Association says mortgage rates will average 3.3% in 2021. These rate estimates are both up from the 3.0% mortgage rate average in 2020 but lower than 2019 average rates. The combination of rising mortgage rates and increasing home prices will accelerate the decline in affordability and further squeeze potential home buyers during the spring home sales season. Where does this leave homeowners, potential homebuyers and potential home sellers? Scrambling. Homeowners with no intention of moving can sit back and enjoy the frenzy. Home sellers will grapple with multiple offers but limited purchase and rental options. Homebuyers are arming themselves with a great agent, lots of patience, flexibility and inventive tactics to claim their piece of the American Dream. Real estate and reality - always on the move!

• Eyes—The eyes will be checked for redness, cloudiness, or discharge. • Ears—Many pets suffer from ear infections. Your veterinarian will examine your pet’s ear canals for possible signs of an ear problem: debris, waxy buildup, or trauma caused by scratching. • Mouth—Your veterinarian will look in your pet’s mouth for signs of dental disease and for broken or missing teeth. If he or she sees any

problems, your veterinarian may recommend a thorough dental examination and cleaning for your pet. • Respiratory system—Your veterinarian will listen to your pet’s heart and lungs. • Digestive system—Your veterinarian will “palpate” (feel) your pet’s abdomen for signs of discomfort and to check that the major organs are the right size and shape. • Musculoskeletal system—Your veterinarian will palpate all your pet’s major muscles and bones to check for signs of weakness or pain. • Skin and hair coat—Your veterinarian will check of all your pet’s “lumps and bumps.” If anything suspicious is found, a biopsy or lump removal may be recommended. • Laboratory tests—During a routine examination, your veterinarian may also want to take samples of your pet’s blood, urine, and feces to obtain additional information about your pet’s health or to ensure that specific body systems are functioning properly.
