very November, Cooper City residents take a break from their hectic schedules to spend time together at the Annual Daddy Daughter Dinner Dance. Some dads and daughters return year after year for the special event. Robert and Laura DiAlberto have not missed a dance in 23 years.

The dance offers girls, in 2nd grade and up, a chance to enjoy a memorable “date with dad” that includes an evening of dancing, dinner and fun. If dad is unavailable, grandfathers, step-dads, and uncles are always welcome. The event has become so popular that the Community Center is flooded with calls as soon as tickets go on sale.

ince 2000, Actors Community Theater has provided residents with a way to enjoy local theater. It all started when the Davie Town Council requested that an ad appear in the Town’s local paper asking for thespians.

Several people responded and became the nucleus for the Town’s first community theatre.

The volunteer group is funded by the Town of Davie and run by its Board of Directors. Every year, the theater produces three shows that include cast members who have ranged in age from 6 to over 80. Some are first-time actors, while others have been acting for years. The plays are performed over two consecutive weekends and often sell-out. he message is clear. Davie residents are proud of their community and they want to make sure that it is litter-free. For 16 years, they have gathered to participate in the Town of Davie and Central Broward Water Control District’s Annual Waterway Clean-up.

The effort started with a group of volunteers gathering on a Saturday and has grown into a major event involving school clubs, boy and girl scouts, religious and non-profit organizations, local families and individuals. Volunteers clean more than eight miles along the C-11 Canal.

The public awareness campaign seems to be working. In the past, volunteers found many large items, such as cars, refrigerators and air conditioners. Each year, however, they find fewer large items and less trash.
