Happy Holidays! BY CHRISTY & TERRY JAILLET

T

he holiday season is upon us. Living in such culturally and religiously diverse communities, the winter holidays can have very different meanings to all of our readers. One thing that seems to be constant, regardless of faith or heritage, is our tendency to celebrate with friends and loved ones. Our family tradition is to celebrate on Christmas Eve Eve (two days before Christmas) with an extended family dinner, followed by a white elephant gift exchange. If you’ve never played, it’s quite simple and entertaining. Participants bring a wrapped gift. Each player, in turn, gets to unwrap a new gift or “steal” one that someone has already unwrapped. Feel free to adopt our family’s holiday tradition as your own. It is always great fun. Speaking of adopting holiday traditions… Our kids beg us each year to celebrate Festivus, the secular holiday made famous on the sitcom Seinfeld. Coincidentally, it is also celebrated on Christmas Eve Eve. Our 16-year-old son is particularly interested in adopting Festivus’ “airing of the grievances”; so far we have successfully resisted! Our family, along with our extended family at Our City Media, wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season. We hope you enjoy this treasured time with loved ones regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or even Festivus! Best wishes for a festive and safe holiday season.

Home Care Assistance

Because Living at Home Is the Best Way to Live BY TERRY JAILLET

F

inding someone you can trust to care for an elderly family member can be frustratingly difficult. A qualified and reliable caregiver is a blessing for a family with a parent or grandparent who needs care. Matt and Mariela Rogers, owners of Home Care Assistance, have dealt with these struggles themselves. In fact, it is one of the reasons they founded their company. Home Care Assistance provides quality in-home care to seniors living in and around Pembroke Pines. Their caregivers are known for their responsiveness, empathy and expertise. Their positive and balanced approach to aging is centered on the evolving needs of older adults. It is what enables seniors to live healthier, happier lives at home.

wonderful Great Aunt Willa was clinically diagnosed with long-term dementia at the age of 74. The struggles of dealing with hospitalizations, doctor’s appointments, managing medications, and coordinating medical needs and care left our family confused, frustrated and extremely overwhelmed. Seeing our family struggle during that difficult period helped us realize that caring for an aging family member is a full-

Why is living at home the best way to live? When seniors live at home, they are able to maintain their freedom and a well-deserved quality of life. We can offer you or your loved one a comprehensive alternative to a nursing home or assisted living facility.

We sat down with Matt and Mariela to learn more about Home Care Assistance. Why did you start Home Care Assistance? We learned about the challenges that families face when caring for an elderly loved one after Matt’s

What type of care do you provide? We provide personalized care to help you or a loved one live well where most seniors prefer - at home. Our caregivers lend a hand with just about everything from bathing, dressing, and grooming, to preparing meals, medication reminders, and light housekeeping. In addition, our caregivers drive, so they often take clients to doctor’s appointments, to run errands, and even on recreational outings, e.g. the museum or a movie.

We can visit seniors anywhere they need care. We can even accompany seniors on vacations, enabling them to travel in safety and freedom.

FEATURE STORY

Great Aunt Willa time job and cannot be done alone. This is where our call for making a difference in the transitions of elder people came in, and this inspired us to open our own Home Care Assistance location right here in Pembroke Pines. Thankfully, with the right intervention at a critical time, both Matt’s aunt and parents began to enjoy life again just like before. She lived and enjoyed a simple, balanced life for 6 years in the family farm. Sadly, Aunt Willa passed away in September. We dedicate our growing company to her memory. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crosswords puzzles and her favorite pastime - watching bird feeders at the family farm.

How do you select the best caregiver for clients? Home Care Assistance specializes in hand-selecting a best fit caregiver to optimize each client’s long-term health, safety and well-being. We offer an extensive roster of qualified caregiver employees with a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and personalities to ensure you receive quality care that is customized to your needs and preferences. Tell us about your caregivers. We provide care personnel for families and senior and health care professionals alike, providing a diverse roster of qualified caregivers to meet each client’s needs. We only hire 1 in 25 applicants. We make sure each caregiver has experience working with seniors and has references from previous clients, professionals and employers. Holiday Season in Pembroke Pines is Snow Much Fun! BY BEVERLY PERKINS

B

etween trips to the shopping malls, holiday parties, and baking cookies and treats, it’s a festive, yet hectic time of the year. But we must remember that there a quite a few holiday happenings all around town that should not be missed. For those searching for a unique gift, the 2019 Holiday Ornaments Sale will be held on December 4th and December 6th from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm at the Carl Schecter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, located at 301 NW 103rd Avenue. Handcrafted stoneware ornaments are made by the center’s “Artists in Action” pottery students and staff. A $5 donation is requested per ornament to benefit senior programs at the popular center. However, the most anticipated annual event is SnowFest. For the past four decades, thousands of all ages come out to the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way, to get in the holiday spirit. It doesn’t matter which holiday one celebrates as all are welcome to the free event hosted by the City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department on December 7th from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. An abundance of activities will be featured including 75 tons of snow in which to play, a Polar Express slide, a Holiday Carousel and a Gingerbread Bounce House. Children can make their own Santa

Trail Mix, create and take art projects, and enjoy reindeer games. The air will also be filled with the sounds of the holidays with over 500 performers on the holiday stage. Food trucks will also be on-site selling a variety of goodies. “This is a great holiday event for our entire community to enjoy,” said Commissioner Angelo Castillo. “It’s an opportunity for all to gather and share in the holiday spirit together.” Santa and City officials will also need everyone’s help in the lighting of a 35-foot decorated tree on the plaza. The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 6:30 pm. Although, we are in South Florida,

visitors should also be on the lookout for snow flurries that just may appear throughout the event. Next is the Holiday Open House which will be held at the Carl Schecter Southwest Focal Point Community Center on December 12th. The free annual event which is open to the public is 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. The center will be transformed into a holiday wonderland where a multitude of festive holiday exhibits, over 30 themed Christmas trees, live entertainment, hot chocolate and cookies, and most importantly, a visit from Santa will be featured. Finally, as December’s signature holiday approaches, Jazz in the Pines is a nice way to wind down and relax during the season. Grab a blanket or bring some chairs and listen to soothing tunes from the Nikki Kidd Band on the Plaza at the Charles F. Dodge City Center on Sunday, December 22nd from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. There will also be a live art demonstration by artist Jill Leftkowitz. There is free parking, free rides and free activities at SnowFest. Tickets, however, are required for the Snow Area and can be purchased in advance at City Hall, Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the third floor in the Recreation and Cultural Arts Offices. For additional locations where tickets can be purchased, please visit www.ppines.com/special events or call the Special Events Office at 954-392-2116.

Pembroke Pines Charter School Where Volunteering is a Pleasure BY BEVERLY PERKINS

F

or the past 3 years, Leo Sotolongo, Publix Store Manager for store #528, has been volunteering at local elementary schools as part of the Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) program. This year, the dedicated volunteer has been assigned to Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary School where he spends his time with the second graders in Ms. Christine Ortis and Ms. Liz DeCaso’s classrooms. Both educators are big advocates of the KAPOW program. To participate in the KAPOW program, volunteers are assigned to one class at a local elementary or middle school and must visit seven times during the school year for one hour to teach KAPOW’s fun and easy to use, and interactive lessons. Before volunteers begin, a onetime training will explain and educate how the lessons work, how to ensure that they will be successful, and how to have a great time doing it. Visits to work sites are custom designed with their partners to suit each school’s needs and capabilities. “It’s been an honor and privilege to be part of the KAPOW Program, motivating our youth and contributing a small part of shaping their future. The

lessons in the KAPOW program allow us to introduce our youth to different career choices that are available to them in the future. The lessons are interactive and fun which get the students engaged and involved,” explained Sotolongo. During the second lesson, students made puppets using paper bags of themselves as their future career choice. Some students surprised the animated store manager by designing their puppet to be a Publix store manager. Later during the school year, the students will have an opportunity to have a hands-

on tour when they get to take a field trip to the local supermarket. They will get a behind-the-scenes tour, so they can see how the popular supermarket chain reduces their carbon footprint by recycling. They will also have a chance to run a register, bag groceries, decorate cookies, and above all learn how to provide premier customer service that is the foundation of the thriving business. “Kapow is a wonderful program that allows me to serve in the community I work. Our founder Mr. George believed that we have to be involved as responsible citizens in our community. I enjoy seeing the students and their families shopping in my store. They remember and greet me warmly,” added Sotolongo. “Having the opportunity to see me away from school and in the environment where I work, allows them to see what a job looks like in real life and solidifies their understanding of what it takes to be a successful leader in our community.” KAPOW is always looking for business or individual volunteers, as well as schools interested in participating in the program. For more information about volunteering or how your school can participate, email KAPOW Program Director Tania Reynolds at taniakapow@gmail.com or call 305-338-5548.

Broward Schools Take A ‘Magic Leap’ BY CHRISTY JAILLET

Local High School Students will soon be living in Augmented Reality! If you look at students wearing futuristic-looking sunglasses, they just might be seeing a lot more than you when they peer back. Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), has partnered with the Florida Panthers Foundation and Plantation-based startup Magic Leap to provide students with cutting-edge technology. The Magic Leap One device may look like a cool pair of sunglasses but it is a powerful headset computer that allows users to experience their own virtual worlds in combination with the real world. It makes the unreal feel real.

The spatial computing headsets let users see and interact with digital (virtual) content in the real world. This headset computer is a portal into worlds within our world. For teachers, the possibilities are endless, such as bringing dinosaurs to life, immersing students in art and music, virtually flying next to an astronaut, taking a virtual field trip for whale watching, and much more, all without leaving the classroom. This virtual world exposure is being incorporated into students’ curriculum to expand high school educational experiences and increase engagement. An agreement, approved by the Broward County School Board in October, equips the District with a total of 90 Magic Leap One devices. Of the 90, the Florida Panthers Foundation is donating 25, Magic Leap is supplying five and the remainder are being purchased by the District. Magic Leap will also provide teachers with professional development to help incorporate these devices into their instruction.

They will also be offering mentorship opportunities for high school students. “We are excited and grateful for our new relationship with Magic Leap and the Florida Panthers Foundation. It provides our students with opportunities to learn and work with cutting-edge technology,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “We’re bringing the future into the classroom to inspire and engage our students. It’s through the support of our local businesses and organizations that we are able to continually innovate and provide our students with world-class educational experiences.”

Local Girl Scouts Keep Rescue Horses in “No Fly Zone” BY JON DUKA

T

wo Davie Cadette Girl Scouts completed one awesome Silver Award project benefitting the city’s horse population. Cadette Girl Scouts Vanessa and Sophia from Troop 11023 worked with local nonprofit Peaceful Ridge Rescue in order to come up with a way to resolve their horsefly problem. They created and installed reusable horsefly traps help control horseflies at the Horse rescue. Peaceful Ridge Rescue, Davie, Florida, is a NonProfit Organization that provides much needed medical and dental care, rehabilitation, and adoption services for rescued horses. With horses come horse flies and these two girls sought to find a solution to reduce these pesky pests and give relief to these “bugged” horses. The girls worked together to research and build 22 reusable insect traps along with a support system that would ensure the traps stay upright. Focusing on sustainability, Vanessa and Sophia demonstrated to volunteers at the ranch how to clean the traps so they can be used again. The Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida held their first Silver Award Showcase honoring the 2019 class of Silver Award Girl Scouts. 76 of the 137 Girl Scouts who earned the prestigious award this year are Broward County residents. The Broward

girls completed 28 different projects benefiting the community The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award that can be earned by Girl Scout Cadettes in grades 6-8. Individuals and small groups of girls who design and complete an approved project with a minimum of 50 logged hours are eligible to receive

the award. In order to earn the award, Cadettes must flex their leadership muscles by doing research and taking action on issues of their choice, all while creating positive change. The projects must fulfill a need in the community, create change, and be sustainable with long-term possibilities.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Staying up Late on Weekends is Detrimental to Your Health BY DR. JEAN-CLAUDE NERETTE & STEPHANIE MUNIZ, ARNP

I

f you take advantage of your weekends by going to bed late and sleeping in, you may be jeopardizing your health without even knowing it. This common practice, known as “social jet lag,” has become an important circadian marker for health outcomes. Those individuals who are habitually following disordered sleep patterns by going to bed late on the weekends and waking up much later than they do during the week are more likely to experience sleepiness, fatigue, worse mood and poorer health overall, according to research. How is that possible? If you think about traditional jet lag, you may realize fatigue and sleepiness are common symptoms because your sleep schedule is disrupted by long hours of travel and time-change. It could take a couple of hours or days for your body to adjust. Now imagine doing that every week! Even though you may not travel every weekend, going to bed late and waking up later than usual, puts your body through the same experience by disrupting your sleep pattern. What’s even worse is that for many people, this is a weekend habit, so they are literally jetlagged every week. Putting your body through those symptoms on a consistent basis, whether it be because you are out drinking or even at home watching TV, will definitely have you feeling less than ideal and will take a toll on your health. Keep in mind sleep duration does not matter when it comes to the negative adverse effects of social jet lag. Sleeping more hours on the weekend is not a way to catch-up for missed sleep during the week and it will not help you recover from going to bed late as much as setting a consistent sleep schedule. In fact, each hour of social jet lag may increase a person’s likelihood of heart disease by 11 percent. Sleep is crucial for recovery. This is the time your body uses cells to repair damage; it also creates antibodies to fight infections and keep you healthy. In addition, sleep time provides for new learning and memory pathways to be formed in the brain. There are numerous studies linking lack of sleep to undesirable outcomes. Because sleep plays a significant role in our health, experts recommend adults get a minimum of seven to eight hours every single night as consistency is better than trying to catch up at the end of the week. The most important goal in functional medicine is the optimization of health and balance, which cannot happen without adequate sleep. If you are going to bed on time and following a sleep schedule and/or routine but are still unable to rest, at Bellissimo Medical we can help you find the root of the problem as well as guide you into making lifestyle changes that will restore your good health and well-being. Heel Spur Syndrome and Plantar Fasciitis BY DR. CARLO A. MESSINA

P

lantar Fasciitis is an inflammation of the main ligament in the arch where it attaches to the heel bone and supports the foot. It is often caused by excessive activity over a short period of time. This condition can occur in flat or high arched feet. Tight muscles, especially the calf and hamstrings, cause increased tension in the fascia. Poor shoe gear, as well as walking barefoot on hard floors for prolonged periods of time, is often a contributing factor. The symptoms of plantar fasciitis include pain first thing in the morning when getting out of bed and putting the foot down to the ground. With walking, the pain usually diminishes. Pain can also occur after sitting for a prolonged period of time or getting out of a car and starting to walk. Occasionally burning, numbness, shooting or tingling into the heel happens with or without weightbearing. Extreme tenderness to touch in the heel or arch region occurs, especially during or after activity. It is commonly associated with lower back pain, due to compensation and abnormal gait. Rarely swelling or discoloration to the heel occurs. Treatment starts with avoiding going barefooted as well as wearing proper shoe gear to support the arch and heel. Anti-inflammatory medications to reduce the inflammation, both orally and Ultrasound-guided, may be prescribed. Taping the foot to support it can give immediate relief. A custom molded orthotic (shoe insert) to permanently support the foot and prevent reinjury may be recommended. Frequent stretching of the calf and hamstring muscles to improve overall flexibility is necessary. Night splints are utilized to splint

the foot while sleeping to stretch the muscle in the back of the leg. Occasionally treatment may involve immobilization in a cast or a boot to completely rest the foot depending on the level of pain and discomfort. Physical therapy can be used to decrease pain and inflammation. If conservative measures fail, shockwave therapy (EPAT) or Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are used. Endoscopic surgery is a last resort to release a small portion of the ligament from the heel. Prognosis is excellent in over 99% of cases if early and aggressive treatment is performed. No long-term problems are expected, and surgery is rarely necessary for this condition. Carlo A. Messina, DPM, is a Board Certified Foot and Ankle Surgeon, Diplomate American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a Foot and Ankle Surgeon with the Foot, Ankle and Leg Specialists of South Florida and specializes in treating infants, children, teens and adults. BY EVAN BARON ost people think of the holiday season with gleeful anticipation of time with family. For couples who have been through a divorce, the holiday season can often be a very stressful time. This stress can also be felt by the children of a divorced couple. It is not uncommon for holiday visitation issues to surface during this time of year. Hopefully, the parties’ settlement agreement or Parenting Plan is specific as to time sharing. Over the course of approximately 35 years of practice, my clients have experienced many issues concerning holiday visitation. The biggest obstacle to solving an issue in court during this time of year is the reality that court time is very difficult to schedule. Last minute issues will usually will not be addressed. Of course, the parties are always able to try and work things out on their own or with the help of attorneys and mediators. I would certainly suggest not waiting until the “last minute” to address any concerns. The best way to ensure there will be no conflicts during the holidays is to anticipate potential problems ahead of time and address them in the marital settlement agreement and/or Parenting Plan. The more specific your agreement is, the more likely you will not experience conflicts along the way. For couples with minor children Parenting Plans have been mandatory. These Parenting Plans are designed to be very specific as to time sharing in an effort to head off any trouble in years to come. Unfortunately, these Parenting Plans were not used prior to the latter part of 2008 and therefore many existing agreements do not include this provision. I believe the most important thing to remember is that any time-sharing arrangement should always keep the best interest of the children as a priority. Children want to spend time with both parents and this is especially true during the holidays. They also want to be a part of any family gatherings. Sometimes that is not always possible, but advanced planning may be able to achieve this goal. Often parents divide the entire winter break in half, with Christmas day being the “exchange day”. As an example, in odd-numbered years such as 2015 perhaps Dad has the children from the day school ends until noon Christmas Day. Mom will pick up the kids and keep them until school begins again. Next year they can reverse the schedule. In some cultures, Christmas Eve is more of a celebration, so perhaps one parent can celebrate every Christmas Eve and the other Christmas Day. Also remember that “gift giving” is not a competition, with the winner being the parent who spends the most money. Often times the finances of each parent may not be the same and one must buy gifts within his/her budget. For a parent to embarrass the other by purchasing a more expensive and lavish gift is only going to lead to hard feelings and potential problems. Hopefully, the parents can discuss this issue beforehand and plan together. Often parents wish to visit family out of town. Consider the feelings of your former spouse and the children in the planning such a trip. Children have the need to be with extended family during the Holidays. Perhaps holiday trips out of town can be rotated from year to year between parents. Mom and Dad can certainly make the holiday season a joyous time for their children or they can focus on themselves and make it a time that everyone would like to forget. BY MAYOR FRANK C. ORTIS s the year comes to an end, I can’t help but look back at all the wonderful things Pembroke Pines has accomplished in 2019 due to the help and support of our residents and businesses. Thank goodness Hurricane Dorian decided not to visit our great city this hurricane season. We watched in horror for days as it raged war on Abaco and Grand Bahamas and left the islands devastated. When the coast was clear, however, I was so proud of our City and community for coming together with support efforts to help our island neighbors with cargo truckloads of donations. I’d like to thank our staff for diligently working to ensure that hurricane preparations were made prior to the storm, during, and after. We kept everyone informed via advanced communication measures and via our comprehensive hurricane pages at www.ppines.com/hurricane and social media. I’d also like to thank our many residents for their preparations and for heeding the alerts and notices presented for their protection. There was a lot of good news this year! We were awarded the Florida League of Cities Spirit Award for the Raising Positive Children Forum Series held here at the PuzzleJunction.com City Center to help parents, grandparents and educators become aware of critical issues affecting today’s children. We were also recognized from various sources for being one the “Safest Cities,” “Happiest Cities,” ranked #12 as Best City to Retire In, #10 Best City to Relocated To, #2 Best City for Hispanic Entrepreneurs, and our FSU Charter Elementary School was ranked as having the “Best Public Elementary School Teacher in Florida”, being the “Best Charter Elementary School in Florida” and the “Best Public Elementary School in Florida”. So let’s celebrate our City and the upcoming holidays. There are many exciting and free events planned throughout the city during this holiday season including our annual “Snowfest”, and our “Holiday Open House” at the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center. You can find many more activities and information on our website at www.ppines. com and on our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ cityofpembrokepines. I have great hopes for a new year in which all of our best expectations are met. May it be a safe and joyous holiday season for all of you, with a happy and prosperous new year!

LEGALLY SPEAKING

Your 2020 Resolutions BY BRUCE IDEN, ESQUIRE s the holidays approach and 2019 comes to a close, we naturally begin to think ahead to resolutions intended to change habits, improve our health or make things better for ourselves and our families. Resolutions are simply promises we make to ourselves. Perhaps your new year’s resolutions include walking 10,000+ steps each day, eating a cleaner diet or spending more time with your children. Whatever your resolutions may be, consider adding to your list an important one: protecting your loved ones. Let’s look at some basic questions and see if you can answer the following: Who will take care of me if I can’t take care of myself? Do I have adequate insurance? Is there a clear successor to manage my financial and business affairs? Are my personal wishes set forth in writing so they are known and accessible when needed? After I am gone, how will my family and loved ones manage the debts, taxes and other legal obligations I leave behind? Have I created a way to reach important family and financial goals? Who will take over my business if I am disabled or gone? What can I do to increase the probability that my business will survive after me? Who will care for my young children if my spouse and I cannot? What financial protection and instructions have I left for their care? When and how will my spouse, children, and other loved ones receive their inheritance? How can I be sure they receive their gifts in a manner which maximizes use and enjoyment but protects against creditors, predators or their own possible fiscal mismanagement?

A

Thinking about these matters can be absolutely overwhelming. But because we care about our families we are obligated to raise these tough questions and explore the answers. As spouses, we want to provide the resources and safeguards to make our loved ones’ futures more secure. As parents, we want our children to have a happy and secure life, especially if that life does not include us. Why not resolve to start the process of caring for your family should something happen to you? The ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu wisely said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Your first step is to meet with a qualified estate planning attorney to design and put into place a plan which will ensure that these are promises you can keep. If you have already done your estate planning, good for you! Please also make a habit of reviewing your plan, including beneficiary designations for insurance policies, retirement accounts, and 401(k) plans. Changes in your financial situation, family circumstances and the law may make the revision and updating of your estate plan essential. Life can change in an instant. What are you waiting for? Bruce Iden earned his J.D. from George Washington University National Law Center and his L.L.M in taxation from the University of Miami School of Law. He has been practicing in the areas of estate planning, real estate and business law for over 30 years. ASK THE EXPERT

Do your hands give away your age? BY CHARLES A. MESSA, III, M.D., F.A.C.S. he focus of anti-aging procedures often rests in the rejuvenation of the face. A person’s hands are often neglected, and therefore remain a telltale sign of aging. The hands are continuously exposed to environmental elements. There are distinct signs of aging seen in one’s hand appearance. Characteristics that are treatable with minimally invasive procedures include visible tendons, the bony appearance, visible/prominent veins along with skin pigmentation changes and wrinkles. These changes occur as a result of progressive thinning of the skin overlying the back of the hand with increased skin laxity and loss of soft tissue volume. Rejuvenation of aging hands involves two distinct factors. Firstly, treatment of the overlying skin to remove age spots, pigmentation, and skin wrinkling or laxity, and secondly restoration of lost volume through soft tissue volume enhancement. Ideal hand rejuvenation is achieved by replenishing your skin’s lost volume. The only FDA approved injectable filler for volume restoration in the hands is Radiesse®. This volumizing filler immediately provides the volume and lift that is necessary to diminish the signs of aging hands because of the calcium-based microspheres and gel that comprise this product. This filler acts as a scaffold beneath the skin after it is injected providing the structure and stimulating your own natural collagen to grow. This process continues for several months after Radiesse® is injected, extending the initial effect lasting more than a year to achieve long-lasting hand rejuvenation after a single treatment. By adding volume beneath the skin, Radiesse® raises the skin level so that tendons, joints, and veins lose their prominence. Radiesse® is safe, effective and a non-surgical treatment that provides immediate smoothing of wrinkles, scars and replenishes soft-tissue volume loss. Radiesse® doesn’t require allergy testing. The procedure is done with topical anesthesia, with injections taking between ten and fifteen minutes. There may be minor swelling, redness or bruising at the site of the injection, which typically resolves within one or two days. The Radiesse® hand lift is the latest procedure that utilizes microspheres of calcium hydoxyapatite to restore a more youthful appearance to the aging hands. Other procedures can be done in conjunction with Radiesse® hand lifts, such as chemical peels and laser rejuvenation to reduce age spots and improve skin texture.
