At a luncheon held at the Jaycee Hall of Hollywood, Mr. Saied Taie, Chairman of the Mary and Ken Rhodes KIWANIS Scholarship Committee, recently announced the recipients of the 2023 awards. The event was sponsored by the Community Service Foundation of Broward County, Robert Giacin, Trustee and KIWANIS member.
This year, the KIWANIS club of Hollywood granted a total of $59,000 in scholarships to 29 graduating seniors from seven high schools in Hollywood. Every graduating student from a high school in the city of Hollywood is eligible to apply for the scholarship before the specified submission deadline, which is communicated in advance to all the high schools in the city each year. The applications are then reviewed by the Mary and Ken Rhodes Kiwanis Scholarship Committee. The next step in the process involves an in-person interview. However, this year, due to lingering concerns from students and educators following COVID, interviews were still met with hesitation. Consequently, all 29 students who applied before the submission deadline will receive $2,000 checks upon providing proof of college registration in September. and one community at a time.
